  1. Hello... thanks for the advice... this would have been my first missed appointment out of the entire 6 months I guess that's why I am upset because I had 6 months and now a 10 pound weight gain at the end, nonetheless I will go to my appointment. Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Hello all.... I have my last appointment (friday) before my paperwork gets submitted for approval. I had a recent doctors appointment and I could not believe the scale. I gained 10 pounds since my last month bariatric weigh in. I believe the weight gain came from self sabotage knowing that my last appointment was coming up. I found it very hard to stay on track. My weight has fluctuated during this whole 6 month process but the 10 pound weight gain would put me right at what I started at 6 months ago. Im Thinking about cancelling my appointment and giving myself a week or two to really push myself and see how much weight I can loose before I do my last weigh in for my 6 month requirement. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? FYI my insurance doesn't say anything about weight gain, but the doctor suggested that I be under my starting weight for insurance purposes and showing active participation in the program. I'm very upset with myself to get to this point and now this. Thanks Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. He doesn’t require anything except the blood tests . I talked to him in early November and could have done it in 10 days but had to schedule it around Xmas to travel there . Very happy with my sleeve restriction and the whole process
  4. I've made sure my video is shorter....this is simply a status update and some NSVs. 🙂 I am going to save a lot of the ancillary talking for my "Can We Talk?" series. By splitting up what I talk about this way, it should keep my videos to about 10 minutes each. Thank you for watching! 🙂

    EGS to Gastric sleeve

Had my consult with the bariatric surgeon. He said that sleeve or bypass are both possible after esg. Sleeve would depend on the anatomy of the stomach and could only be done if the stomach had dilated or stretched a lot since esg. He did also add that if the esg did not work for me then a sleeve may also not be as effective. The only way to see what would be best is to do a gastroscope and decide after this. He did say that as this is considered revision surgery, a leak from a sleeve or bypass would be higher risk and that his preference is most likely a bypass but would wait until after a scope to further discuss this with me and decide. As for now, I have lost 15kg in 2019. Hoping not to need surgery but glad to have a plan to move forward if I do. Mel xx

    This is why....

Many things that all culminated in spring 2018 1. Was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer 10 years ago at the ago of 40 2. Never lost the weight in the intervening 10 years and in February 2018 had another abnormal mammogram (thankfully not cancer again, but it scared the bejesus out of me) 3. My dear father in law passed away in December 2017 from complications of extreme morbid obesity— he was over 500 pounds when he passed. His goal was to make it to his 80th bday and he fell 5 days short. 4. January of 2018 I went on a family girls trip to Orlando to finally see Potterverse. At the time I was 250 pounds and could only get on a handful of rides. All I could think about during the trip was that we had waited for soooooo long to finally do this thing that I wanted to do so badly and my weight ruined my trip for me. 5. A trip to Belize in April 2018. I wanted so much to do an entire day snorkeling tour. I went, but had to spend half the time on the boat watching everyone else have a blast because I physically couldn’t keep up with all of the swimming. In June 2018 I decided ENOUGH and scheduled my first consult. Had surgery this February (10 weeks ago to this day) and I haven’t regretted it for one moment. I’m still very far from goal, but I’ve lost 53 pounds from my highest weight in July 2018 and loving the decision. Fingers crossed we take a December trip to Belize and I WILL be able to do that whole day snorkeling adventure!

Anyone else playing the waiting game?!?

Sooo happy I found this thread! I've been playing the waiting game for 4 years now! My case is a bit different because I live in Spain, and I'm getting my surgery through the "social insurance" aka free (economically at least). The first time I applied I was denied because my BMI was 39 and not 40, so they sent me to a nutritionist and I lost the same 40-30 pounds I tend to loose but regained them like always. After many visits to my GP, and a bunch of paper work, finally last year I re applied and got into the "waiting list"! The problem is.... I am 100% getting the surgery, they just won't tell me when, and it's been 10 months!! ..And it's driving me insane. On my last visit, the doctor said probably before July, but I haven't been called for the preop, semminars, nothing. I'm pretty sure the secretary recognises my voice by now 😵 I know things happen when they're supposed to, but I just feel so frustrated. I feel my life is on hold. I've gained even more weight, I'm on my highest right now, and I it's just harder than I expected. I'm glad to see there's so much support here! I wish you all get your call very soon lovelies! Big hug xD

How to Go about Lap Band Removal?

Hi there, I have been considering lap band removal the past year because I have been dealing with quite a bit of abdominal pain after having the band for almost 10 years. I self funded the original surgery, so I really dont know whether OHIP will cover the removal of the band. Dont really know where to start! Any updates on your end whether you are able to successfully remove the band (and covered by ohip)? Please kindly share your experience if you can, Thanks!
  10. I'm sure it does happen, there was a guy mentioning that when I first joined Bariatric Pal. Then last year there was a girl that they did go ahead and the surgeon leveraged her liver, suspect,it happened when trying to move,he4 liver out of the way. Oh she recovered pretyu, goood but it was a miserable recovery. that she had. So Yeah very very rare , but it could happen. The fact that you did your . sinning" early in this process and went on to lose 10 pounds should work. out to your benefit. Looking forward to an update posting when your surgery is completed!
  11. Hello Anne, I really hope you can help me out. I've had the band for about 10 years, but in the past year the band is giving me abdominal pain way too frequently. I dont think the band slipped, but it is definitely difficult everyday living with it, so I am really hoping to get it removed. Did you have to report any issues with the band in order to have ohip cover the removal? Or ohip will naturally cover the removal of the device? Any additional information you can give me would be very much appreciated. Thanks, please help!

I think I remember reading the overall rate is 95% but the 3 surgeons at cedars have a 90% rate so I did appreciate getting a statistic that is more applicable for me since I’m in his specific hands. I’m not sure if I mentioned it but I did have one episode where I coughed up a little bit of 10 capsules I swallowed and that was disgusting. It takes about an hour for me to get them down so I probably swallowed them too fast. I’m supposed to open them all but I just can’t. I still burp and hiccup but apart from that one episode haven’t felt or tasted any acid and I haven’t vomited at all in almost 2 weeks post op. Only lost a few lbs but while I’m disappointed I remind myself I didn’t get it for weight loss and I can lose my steroid weight in the gym when I’m better.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

I have my date!! April 23, 2019 in 6 days!!! Super excited Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. Need some support/advice please. Had VSG on January 7, 2019. I’m 63 years and I’ve lost 33 pounds. I know it isn’t going to come off as quickly as those that are younger but it’s a struggle every day, as I’m sure many of you feel. Feels like I plateau for 2-3 weeks and then have a week where I lose 2 - 3 pounds. My question, concern is that I’m finding I don’t take little bites anymore, I’m devouring food and then I DELIBERATELY make myself throw up! This only happens at dinner time but I’m finding I’m doing it every day. Any support you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Gallbladder Warriors! Sound familiar?

Thank you for your responses. I’m seeing the doctor tomorrow. I’m almost hoping for a bad day before whatever tests they set up so I can go to the ER and get this over with. I’ve been through at least 10 flare ups in the last 90 days, each lasting three or more days. I had no idea what it was until I started looking up symptoms. Half the time I was on vacations of had out of town company so I just used Lamaze breathing. I did three days of labor with my only child so I just kept telling myself I’d get through the busy stuff and then go see someone. I’m now exhausted! Company is gone. They can take anything they want. I’m done! 🤣

**BEFORE/AFTER Pics! Ultimate Goal Reached Today!**

Congratulations! I’ve been watching you for a few months now, cheering you on! Thanks for posting Mitchell in Minnesota’s name, I’ll start watching him as well. I’m a revision patient, 2/12/19, and have had a hard time finding youtubers that have had revision that keep up with posting videos.

  19. Hello y'all! I just wanted let anyone, who is being denied by their insurance company, to consider Lindstrom Healthcare Advocacy, to help in your fight for approval or overturning a previous denial! My story.... I was denied coverage for revision surgery (lapband to sleeve) twice, by insurance xyz (I am not naming insurance company, until I get reimbursed), and enlisted Lindstrom Healthcare Advocacy for 3rd appeal and subsequently, a review by an independent doctor. After a few months of diligent and expert advocacy, on my behalf, LHA convinced the doctor and insurance xyz to finally approve my surgery! And this was almost 3 months AFTER my surgery, in which I funded myself! I am just waiting on reimbursement, which is in works now. I've talked to my insurance company and they are keeping me updated in the whole process. They have assured me that I am covered and reimbursement is in the making. Just a matter of claims and paperwork from my providers. Walter and Kelley Lindstrom, makeup the army that fights the good fight for you, by way of expert letters, phone calls, and legal knowledge. These guys are lawyers, who have made their primary scope, that of advocating healthcare, for those who need it. Insurance companies, in many cases, will use a multitude of reasons for denying coverage! In my case, insurance xyz was denying my coverage, due to a clause in our policy, that allows only one lifetime bariatric surgery. Walter Lindstroms letters and provided facts, convinced that my revision was not only necessary, but also eligible for coverage. Regardless of clause in policy. Kelley Brown Lindstrom, does ALL the leg work, as far as medical records and release forms. I can't say enough about her help and willingness to listen and answer all questions! She is simply genuinely awesome! As for the cost, it amounted to about 10% of the cost of my surgery. A risk indeed, but nonetheless, worth it. I will be getting back, minus deductibles and out of pocket maximums, about 90% of my total surgery cost! Three months AFTER my self paid surgery! My revision surgery was worth my self funding, regardless of an approval or not. I am now only 15 pounds from my goal weight, in just 16 weeks out of surgery! But with the help of Lindstrom Healthcare Advocacy, the victory is just that much more sweeter!

    Stalled already(!??) or insulin resistance?

I have PCOS and insulin resistance was one of my main reasons for getting the surgery. I was taken off metformin the day of surgery - and I was on 2000 mg a day. Was never so glad of anything in my life - I hated that metformin, it always did a number on my guts! I was warned that PCOS-ers are typically slow losers, and was kind of prepared for that. I was also told that because I was on the lower end of the BMI chart for surgery (36), that I would lose slower too. But the hormones are the main culprit, I think. My endocrinologist told me that for someone with PCOS to lose 1 lb is equivalent to a "normal" person losing 5 lbs - it's just that hard. Anyway, I lost about 11 lbs from surgery day, then stalled on day 12. For 11 days I fluctuated between a stall and a slight gain, until I started losing again. Now I am 10 weeks out and have had that stall, and another stall where I fluctuated between 176 lbs and 171 lbs for three weeks. I seem to have hit a decent stride now - I have been on a constant losing streak for 16 days and hopefully it'll continue. I think I've found a calorie number, protein amount, water amount and step count that are the sweet spot for me. I am someone who chronically could not lose no matter what I did. Prior to surgery I was on 1300 calories or less a day for years and still gained. So if it is happening (yes, very slowly, but still) for me - you should have every belief that it'll happen for you!

Starting WLS journey as a vegan

I have been vegan for 3 yrs and have just scheduled my VGS for October 2019. Now that sounds a ways off, but I have been reading the blogs and have realized there are a lot of issues I need to address prior to surgery. My Veganism is 1. My current nutritionist doesn't like my diet, but that's her problem. So, I can see I need to research more that Tofu and fake meat. I do plan on sticking to my veganism after surgery as well. I'm glad to see your posts as I need to do some more work. Again, Thanks!
  23. My doc's plan is Clear liquids till the day you get home from the hospital. (2 days), Full liquids till the 1 week visit. 10 days of purees. 14 days of soft food. Then you add in regular food.
  24. After 10 years of living with the Band my port has become infected probably due to recent over exercising and moving furniture haven’t seen Doc yet - 4 hours to go before appt. The doctor’s receptionist told me that The lap band will most likely will have to be removed. A part of me says yes I do want it out as I had reflux and had to have all the fluid removed but still had restriction but it was restriction on healthy foods. I’ve improved my diet in the past few years with only organic whole foods with almost no or rare junk food. Totally not me in the past. Gratefully my hormones have calmed down as I reach 60 I’m praying that the inner child I was feeding has grown up🙏 Requesting prayers. Thank you❤️

    Gas?

I would say you are getting close to intervention time, that said, check with your own Bariatric nurses and staff. Some surgeon's are more fecally- inclined💩than others. My own was 5 days and we start stirring Miralax into your protein shakes, 7+ days we bring out a " Bigger Gun" Milk of Magnesia, 10 days and we really "intervene", didn't happen to me but my guess is an ER visit, an abdominal scan, and then whatever it takes to empty YOU out!
