  2. Hey, I was banded on the 19th also. Just the last 2 days have I felt hunger pains, actually woke me up the 1st time but like you couple bites of something and its gone. But at an actual meal I can eat 6-8oz and feel fine. Not eat, but drink. Im on full liquieds.Im not suppose to do more then 4oz per meal but its kinda hard to measure so little. Do you notice you can eat more then whats recommended? I lost weight the 1st 4 days but now the last 2 I havent lost anything which shocks me since Im not hardly eating anything really. What are some things you guys are eating? Its 90degrees here and Im sick of hot soup. Thanks
  3. It can be a drag if you have to cook for other people while you’re on your weight loss surgery diet. If your family refuses to “eat healthy,” you can easily find yourself making two different meals every night so you can have your healthy meal and they can eat what they like. But at some point, you may be able to sneak something healthy past them. That makes it a lot easier because then you only have to make one meal. Plus, once you tell them it’s healthy, they may be more open to eating healthy foods in the future! Turkey chili comes to mind: most people can’t tell the difference between lean turkey and ground beef in chili. You might even be able to sneak soy crumbles into the dish! Cottage cheese oatmeal pancakes with fruit could be another winner. If you can’t sneak healthy foods past them, you can try to save yourself some effort by serving a meal that serves both purposes: you can pick out the parts that are healthy, and they can eat the entire meal. For example, taco bars and make your own pizza bars let everyone pile on their own favorites, while you can stick to the lean Proteins and veggies you know are right for you. So, what is your best recipe or meal idea that is healthy but that everyone will eat, even if they don’t like healthy meals?
  4. Hello Everyone, I was banded on July 27, 2010; I have lost a total of 33lbs since starting the pre-op diet (beginning of June). I had my first fill of 3ccs in a 10cc band on September 13th. I have lost 2-3lbs since then but nothing more. Don’t get me wrong I am happy that I have lost that much but I guess I just figured that I should be losing the 1-2lbs a week that the dr told me about. I am exercising 3-4 times a week. I usually try to walk/run 4 miles. My eating habits are no fast food, high Protein foods, and salads. Don’t get me wrong I do give into sweets a little but I’m not over indulging in them. My question is when did you really start to notice the weight coming off. I’m thinking that maybe when I get another fill I may start to see to come off faster.

    100lbs gone!

Congratulations! I was banded two days ago and am so thrilled to hear about your positive results. I know how hard it's been for you and look forward to hearing more about your journey. I've been going back and forth, up and down the last month. I can finally say 100lbs is gone from my life never to be seen again! WOOHOO!! I have really worked hard. Exercised consistently. Listened to my Doctor. Keep looking forward and never look back. I don't beat myself up for the occasional slip up just start new with every meal. I weigh myself everyday but only record it weekly. When it is the same for a couple of days I know I have to switch it up (food and exercise) and I try hard not to get upset by the number. I have been successful with that. I need to weigh myself daily. It is a check in for me and it works. I know that is not right for everyone though, just what worked for me. I have really tried to stay positive through this journey. I look ahead to what new things I can try as I lose weight. I really want to go ziplining and skydiving! I want to have another baby. I want to shop in a regular store and not plus size. I want to cross my legs. I am so excited for what's to come in my life. Seven months ago I took the first step to living a happy and healthy life. While it has also been the most emotional and difficult journey I have ever been on, at the end of the day I love every second of my new life. I am so happy!
  6. I have to say this is a bunch of predictions based on what? I had my surgery December 11, 2013. I don't take NSAIDS for my severe arthritis anymore. I can move with less pain than BEFORE surgery taking high dose NSAIDS. I like my chances at keeping the weight off. There hasn't been a magic pill in all the decades they've been trying to develop one. The simple fact is my stomach didn't work! It kept telling me to EAT, EAT, EAT. Now that the troublesome part of my stomach has been removed--the part that makes grehlin, (spelling?), I get a little nudge telling me--"Oh I need to eat something". NOTHING like it was before when I was an absolute beotch from Hades if you didn't get me food when I was hungry. Yes, I went through a dark period when I missed my old constant companion of food. I had some mental issues to work through. I've never thrown up. I can eat about 8 ounces of food--unless it's really dry. I eat fruits, vegetables and a variety of foods but it's ALWAYS Protein first. I don't have diarrhea but I do have to battle occasional constipation. If I drink the 64 ounces of Water a day, exercise and get my Fiber in---constipation is not a problem. I have not vomited ONCE since surgery. I'm so lucky to not have any reaction to anesthesia or narcotics like some people do. Yes the gas used in surgery was very painful BUT I'd go through it again in a heartbeat to feel the way I do today. I wouldn't trade my chances at a longer healthier life for any of the BS on that site. Good luck, Blessings, Kathleen
  7. I didn't lose a thing during my 6 months of nutritional counseling. I only started to lose weight during the 2-week countdown to surgery. My surgeon wants all of his patients to lose 5% of their body weight prior to surgery: in my case, 15 pounds. I managed to burn off 13 pounds in a last-ditch effort in the 2 weeks pre-op diet, and then they didn't even weigh me that day. D'oh! My nutritionist worked hard to motivate me, but at the end she shifted gears towards shoring up my resolve and plan for post-op rather than trying to get me to lose pre-op. The team told me repeatedly that there is absolutely zero relationship between pre-op weight loss and post-op success. The ability to lose weight during pre-op has no predictive value to how you will do post-op, according to the scientific literature. @@KarenLoh, I'd dig a little deeper into the psych eval that concluded you would have low projected ability to stick with the program post-op. Were there any suggestions on how to address that, or any particular areas of concern you can deal with or education elements you could correct? It seems like that might be fertile ground for further investigation. This is a great time to adjust your habits in small ways. Tackle one habit at a time, and take time to really nail it before moving on to the next one. My weakness is eating out, with particular risk of fast food drive-thru. I limited my stops to a certain number per week, then cut it lower and lower until it was gone. Same with Diet Coke (my kryptonite!). I switched to Diet Pepsi (blech!) to consume less diet soda right away, then limited it to certain times of the day, certain quantities overall, and then gone completely. Don't feel like you need to tackle every bad habit at the same time, or you will struggle like we all do with every other "cold turkey" approach to dieting. Good luck!
  8. I have had a lot of difficulty losing weight during my "evaluation phase" and I also scored poorly on psychological tests in the area of projected ability to stick with the diet post-op. Has anyone else struggled with compliance before being scheduled for surgery? I am working very hard at it and seeing a therapist and feel I am making good progress but I occasionally mess up and the weight stays on. Maybe I'm not ready for the surgery if I can't do this pre-op. I have been on strict liquid diets in the past (Optifast) and loved not eating at all and felt great but this has been difficult. Any encouragement or suggestions welcome.

    Sleeved on March 29th

I had my surgery March 25th I have lost 30lbs so far. A little scared about eating real food now and the weight loss slowing down.
  10. I had a sleeve gastrectomy done Dec. 2011. My highest weight pre-op was 238 (I had co-morbidities). I lost 42 pounds in 4 months (from 228 - 186) and then stalled forever. Then I started gaining weight back. I got a hiatal hernia last year. The doctor said why not fix that and change you to a full gastric. My 2nd surgery was 11-20-14. I did NOT want another surgery but I'm glad now because it is working MUCH better. I am now 165 pounds. BUT, I am now having walking/balance/gait/hip problems. When I walk it feels like my legs are flopping around. I also am having tingling in my left calf and left foot. I don't have as much cushion on my bum and it seems like sitting for long times affect me more (I have an office job). Is anyone else experiencing something like this? What did you do about it? How long were you like this? It has been about 3 weeks. I can only wear flats because of it.
  11. Ok. Finally someone else has the same issues as I have, not that that is a good thing! I regularly see a chiropractor, who helps put things back where they SHOULD be. But it doesn't last very long, as I haven't yet built up those muscles to keep the joints in place. That's the thing. My nurse has told me our bodies WILL change in stride, gait...as we lose weight. THUS it will require us to change, as well. Things will need to figure out where they are going to be, in the body, and it may take a while to sort itself out. My Chiro-guy was shocked to see how much things have altered in my body due to the weight loss, so he's having a field day (!!!) messing with my body (while I am in excruciating pain, I might add!). This is going to take time, but may I suggest seeing a GOOD, REPUTABLE chiropractor to help you with this? Research the Chiro's, people, and try to find a REALLY good one. This is the voice of experience speaking here!!!!
  12. I don't know if it's the same with other Drs, but with Dr. Spivak, there were lots of bandsters to talk with, and one bandster who wasn't successful. Dr. Spivak spent alot of time presenting and answering questions in a group and also individually. He didn't ask me to do alot of pre-surgery testing and there was no psych component. I don't have to lose weight before the surgery but he does ask that you don't gain weight before it. He has an amazing reputation and lots of experience. So...as of tonight, I know for sure that he can do his part. Now I have to make sure in my head that I can do my part. I don't want to be in that 15% for whom it just doesn't work well. Hard to imagine doing well after failing on diets for life! I have lots to think about, including which way to pay for this thing..... But as soon as I have that settled and send him my recent blood test results, I'm good to go. I'm excited!

    Advice On Diet

I have insulin resistance (borderline diabetes) so I think the higher Protein, lower carb way of eating just makes me feel better and probably helps my blood sugar. I have heard people say it helps the weight loss, too. I guess you could always try it for a couple of weeks and see what happens. Nancy

    Pre-op Diet

My first NUT gave me a an initial calorie total to stay under each day and progressively lowered it each month. I wound up switching bariatric centers on the third month when I opted to self pay and have the surgery much sooner than waiting the 6 months + approval process time. After switching centers on the third month, I stayed with the prior calorie limit, but I went low carb with it. The final 14 days prior to surgery were limited to 4 Protein shakes per day only (under 600 calories). I lost 55 lbs in those 4 months leading up to surgery. I could've done better had I exercised more, but was recovering from a back injury (the deciding factor that nudged me into seeking wls) and simply trying to hold it together and get the weight off and get relief. It was easy and I kick myself in the arse for not doing all this much earlier in life.
  16. Good morning I'm new hear. I've been reading comments and I am going through the same. My date was set for August 19, 2013. I also have been eating too much. I feel like crap. I was told if I gain weight they won't do the surgery and I have gain since the first appointment.
  17. I am 2 years post-op. I have lost a total of 130lbs. It does become harder after the 1st year to lose weight. I do 2 hours of working out 6 days a week and I still have stalls and even gain sometimes. I can tolerate eating just about any food now, but I always make protein the first thing. After the 1st year portion size becomes very important. Stay away from greasy food and foods that are high in carbs. I stick with protein shakes, greek yogurt, chicken breast, cheese sticks, and veggies. When I want to have a little snack I choose fruit or nuts. I hope this helps answer some questions. Use your surgery as a tool and enjoy your new body!
  18. @@scott72 thank you for the clarification! O just didn't want to assume that's what you meant. I agree, it's more common than people realize. Being overweight and losing the weight changes us mentally just as it does physically. Sometimes the friendships and relationships suffer because you're now a different person (more like you were anyways this person but put on a facade before). I understand the feelings of guilt, but sadly it's a part of changing and life. It doesn't mean you love her any less or that you're a bad person. It just means that you're living your true self now and that true self may not be compatible with her. It's not an easy concept to swallow and what you do about it is up to you. I just urge you to communicate with her because otherwise it'll make things way more difficult.
  19. Sometimes people can feel threatened by the change they see in you. They don't know if they can have the same success. It can create insecurity and even lead to sabotage. I started trying to lose weight on my own (and had some success, just nowhere near fast enough), my ex was fine until I really started making headway. You know what I got for my birthday that year... A deep fryer. WTF!? LOL You can't make people be ready for change when you are. Just work toward the best you. Sent from my Nexus 6P using the BariatricPal App

Looking for a fill Dr in Louisiana...

Surgical Specialists of Louisiana has an office in Metairie at Omega Hospital. Chris Nelson is the Nurse Practitioner that does fills there. From my understanding, they charge approx. $250 for the first fill and approx. $155 for all fills thereafter. The reason their first visit fee is so much is that they have to review all of your surgical notes and x-rays, which you must bring with you. 22. My RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery My name is Carla! I live in NJ I'm a 35 year old married mother of two. My weight loss journey started in March 2008. My son was one year old and I decided I no longer wanted to live my 300lb unhealthy lifestyle! I wanted to live to be able to see my Son grow and I wanted to be able to play with him and not watch from the side lines. I had my gastric bypass surgery Sept 15 2008. After the usual Two days in the hospital I was feeling good and diacharged. Only to return to the hospital at 4am in severe pain. I had a leak. Had to do another surgery and recovery was very painful I stayed in the hospital for three weeks. With that being said I would do it all over again. I reached my goal weight of 160lbs within the year. I maintained this weight for 5 years I was a stay at home Mom back then and I worked out full time. 6 or 7 days a week 1 1/2 -2 hours a day! I was determined to make all of my pain purpose full. But as life happened I creeped up to 180lbs and plateau there for months until I got pregnant with my daughter. My weight went up to 230lbs on my date of delivery. With some light exercise, ppd, and anxiety my weight toggled between. 215and 230 until one morning I woke up and the scale said 240! I almost died. I did not come So far to just become morbidly obese again. So on June 1 2016 I began hitting the gym hard again! It's not easy working full time. Caring for my 8year old and 2 year old. And still finding the energy to work out like I used to. But I am motivated to get my old self back. So I have been drinking 2 meals and eating one meal daily for the past week. I have my restriction back! And I'm ready to reach my goals! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Loose Flabby Skin On Arms After W.L.?

I haven't lost much weight, but I have noticed my arms showing some signs of flabbiness and want to nip it in the butt...what kind of exercises do you guys think might be helpful? I was wondering if doing some arm raises w/ 5lbs weights could be helpful...I know it's a pretty conservative approach, but I already have some. Unfortunately, I don't have a gym membership yet--of course, I know I should get one, but since I'm not in the best shape, I think it might be wise to wait until I've lost a bit more.

Work Out With Liited Equipment ?

You can do wonders with walking, running, and straight calisthenics like we were taught in physical education classes as kids. Perhaps take a book of exercises with you? Add in some weight lifting with what you can find at camp. Light weights and high repetitions will start building muscle. Good luck!
  25. IV fluids, trauma and swelling from the surgery WILL make you gain weight. . . but honey it's only Water weight! Once life gets back to normal for you, it's going to fall off. . . your DH did the right thing by hiding the scale. . . those evil things can cause us to go into seizures! Just drink your water, watch your carbs and calories and STAY away from the evil scale and your going to be ok. . . Good luck. . . by the way, are you feeling better? Gallbladder surgery can be such a pain!!!
