  1. Hi @@reachbree! Crossing fingers for you! I also have Blue Shield of CA and I'm so nervous! Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

Hi! I'm 4'11 and waiting for my first appointment to get a revision from lap-band to sleeve Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Is the sleeve right for me?

I had the band for 10 years, found myself weghing about 40# more than I started. I revised to the sleeve 4 years ago and maintaining 150#weight loss. I think the sleeve is easier to live with. Less hunger, less pain...HOWEVER...don't be fooled into thinking that the hunger reduction lasts forever. Many of us experience the return to hunger. I choose a bariatric practice with lots of support and education which I think helped me be more successful with the sleeve. I think you should research the sleeve and bypass - both good choices. 4. Iwanttobethin please keep us updated after your surgery! We all sounds like we are in similar situations with the revision surgery. The gerd has been absolutely horrible for me as well, I understand your pain. I am now waiting for my insurance to approve the surgery. I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery!!' 5. Hi there! I am waiting to hear from Aetna on my sleeve to bypass revision. I called today and they said it's in review as of the 26th. Said it could take 7-10 days. Just curious...were you approved? How long did it take to hear back for a final decision? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using the BariatricPal App
  6. I'm in Westfield. Scheduled for a revision to bypass on April 7 at St. Barnabas.

    Did I have surgery?

No I'm sorry if I explained it wrong. When I had the last EDG withthe new specialist when I woke and she spoke with us she told us both at the same time that there were absolutely no signs of any type of gastric surgery. I asked her to clarify and she said all of my stomach was just as it should be prior to any surgeries. No sign of revision
  8. I had the lap band done about 2 years ago. The original doctor does not want to do the surgery because they don't take my insurance. Does anyone out there know of a surgeon who can get rid of the lap band on Long Island New York in suffolk county? That accepts Medicaid or Medicare?

    Did I have surgery?

Yes I had a revision and I never felt like it seemed to restrict me much but dr said over and over again I'm probably not following the nutritional advice and needed to continue with his nutritionist. Which I continued and followed all the restrictions. No soda, no NSAIDs, high protein low carb, protein smoothies, walked daily and even joined an exercise group at school on my lunch hour etc...I'd always feel bad that I didn't feel like I was successful but even his nurse told me that when you're revised not to expect the same results she too had been revised.
  10. My story us similar to yours. ..i lost 30kg in first 2 years and slowly gained it back. Next month i am having surgery revision to a mini gastric bypass. My very experienced weight loss surgeon said there is no point trying the sleeve. If the band gas failed the sleeve wont be right. Also the band has been eroding my stomach, caused a hernia and affected my esophagus. A dangerous and unsafe procedure in my opinion. I can never recomnend the band. ..ive spent so many nights in emergency!!! Cant wait for the bypass. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App
  11. What the band doesnt offer that other WLS surgeries do offer is the effect on hunger hormones. This is a big failing with the band as to feel hungry yet have the tiny stomach us like a horrible torture! ! I cant wait to have my gb revised to mini bypass next month. 12. I had gastric band in 2009. Im about to be revised to a mini bypass. There have been numerous studies showing the general failure of the band as a weight loss method. A swiss study in 2010 showed that 80% of patients with bands will have to have them removed within 8 years. It has been known to have a poor outcome for many years now. Did I have surgery?

So you were supposed to have had a revision from band to sleeve in 2013 but you think they didn't actually sleeve you? Have you had any sort of restriction while eating? I can't see how you could not be sleeved and not know. That seems crazy!
  14. There are two types of Bypass surgery. Roux en Y is tge older style and has 2 anastomoses (joins). The othe bypass is called Omega Loop or mini bypass and has just 1 anastomosis. Mini bypass is about 20 years old. It has less loss of nutrients and requires less supplements throughout lifetime. Dont be fooled by "mini" as its still a full bypass. If you Google the mini bypass you will see the difference to RNY. I am just about to have my gastric band revised to a mini bypass. I believe the most well known surgeon in the USA is Dr Rutledge. He gas 100's of videos to watch about it. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App
  15. Curious has this ever happened to anyone else and if so where do I begin? In 2013 I was in hospital in my home town Houston for three days recovering from gastric sleeve surgery or so I thought. I had lap band in 2010 and was sick often from it even though I followed all the rules and life changes. Than in 2013 I had a revision to gastric sleeve which I was told went very well just go home follow the new changes which were pretty much the same as before and see nutritionist at dr office frequently to stay on task. i did it all! When I'd go in for a check up I was always told I was trying hard enough because I should be losing more weight. Id only lost 50-60 lbs total. Then went in again for an EDG after having a continuous upset stomach. After that procedure he told me I had hpylori and to take this medications. Another year passes and I'm still stuck at the same weight give or take a few pounds and I've moved to California from Texas. Began having the same symptoms as I did with hpylori but also had somehow lost another 26 lbs after moving to Cali. I attribute this to the sunshine. When my stomach pain would not go away after months I decided I'd go to another gastroenterologist and internal medicine specialist here in Loma Linda California. She ran all the usual tests and an EDG which found that I have a lot of burning type ulcers but here's the kicker SHE SAID WHEN I WOKE UP AND MY HUSBAND HEARD HER THAT THERE WERE ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNS THAT ID EVER HAD GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY AND THAT ALL MY PARTS WERE ALL THERE NORMAL AS TEHY SHOULD BE PRIOR TO A SURGERY!!!! What do I do?

  18. @@tiffanymarie6997 When people come to me and ask about WLS i always ask a few questions: 1) if you are married and/or have a significant other, how strong is your relationship? 2) how is your support system? Family? friends? #1.... even the best (NOT ALL) relationships are strained sometimes... and WLS has brought even the strongest to an end..... i found that out the hard way. My husband has never been supportive of my WL. He loves the unhappy, no confidence, stay at home wife.... and has tried everything he can to make me lose site of where i am now. But it's not working... #2.... support system.... My dear this is SOOOO very important. Can you do it alone, sure... but it's so much better when you have people in your corner cheering you on... Those At-a-girls mean a lot. I have told many to become more aware of who your "true friends" are.... the will rise to the top... And i have to say this first off..... You my dear are a stunningly beautiful girl... OK.. This is what i have found (my experience, not everyone).... The "thin" friends.. most will be supportive of your weight loss.... until you start to become competition. This i mean... All fat girls have those thin friends they love hanging with you because you are fun, funny, charismatic.. and a NON threat... BUT... you start losing the weight and men start hitting on you, you now are competition for them. This is bad for them, especially the ones that rely on looks. Those will drop like fly's... Good riddance. THEN there are the "fat" friends... these are the ones that it hits the hardest..... they don't want you to lose weight, they want you to stay fat with them.. and yall can go out and party in a big fat girl group... I know that sounds harsh.. but it's true. The Fact is when you start losing more weight more of the men will start to hit on you... (im sure your friend experienced this) Every pound you lose is a reminder to them that they are still fat... and your "friend" that had WLS will see all your losses a her failures. I know she is your best friend, but i would think long and hard about her being a part of your support system. If you are waiting for her to give you the At-a-girls... your setting your self up for disappointment. Im not saying dump your friend, just to be aware of the people you surround yourself with. It's important that they are positive and uplifting... A year before i had my LB surg. my sister in law went down to Mexico and had it done. She did well at first, but then started to gain it back. By then i had already had mine done and was well on my way to a new me. It seemed the more i lost, the more she gained. Every time i suggested to my brother that we get together, she gave him a reason not too. Well i finally asked my brother why? He said, she can't bare to be around you... WHAT? Why i asked, he said because i was a reminder of her failure... WOW... i never thought of that. So, a year or so later she revised to another band.... that was a failure too... two years ago she did the GB. That worked, she had great success and under went a lot of PS for the skin.... So now we can hang out again.... lol. Good luck....

RNY vs. VSG... Feeling RNY pushed to VSG

Go RNY.I had the band and suffered for years.Just recently had a revision to RNY.my decision...my doctor was curious and asked me how I decided.I told him....this is it...the gold standard and I am not looking for surgery no.3.The bypass has been wonderful.Absolutely no complications whatsoever.I feel great.
  22. I had revision from band to bypass at the very end of December 2015.It's been great. My weight loss is slow and steady.I was below 40 BMI and have PCOS and am 52 years old.I have 35 pounds so far and I feel great. No issues.I follow a mostly Paleo diet.
  23. Well, I'm not so sure it's that cut and dry. But if you feel that you should have had the bypass you can always revise to one. I personally recommend a bypass for people who fail with the sleeve. However, they are both pretty much the same in the long-haul. The average weight loss for the sleeve is 60% and for the bypass is 70%, not much difference at the end.
  24. I can't wait for my Gerd to be over with. I am having revision from band to RNY tomorrow morning. I can't wait to finally feel better! Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
