    April 2014 pre-op group

Welcome!!! Congrats on your loss first of all, sounds like you are doing AMAZING!! I'm not a big fan of milk so I had a hard time with my protein in the liquid phases. I substituted with almond milk which is more expensive, but it lasts longer, has less fat and a lot more calcium. I haven't started my pureed diet yet, I will be able to tomorrow if my doctor clears me at my post op visit. I am not a fan of cottage cheese or ricotta (unless I'm making lasagna...lol) so my Nut told me to eat low fat Greek yogurt, pudding, grits, cream of wheat, scrambled eggs (or substitute), refried beans, applesauce (which I don't eat but when I was at the grocery store I found they have several flavors, so I got strawberry), pureed veggie soup, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes. Ask your NUT and try something like that. I know what you mean about being able to "eat normal". I have been depressed as well because I am pretty social and go to dinner with friends often which I haven't much later because of my diet. Also I have to cook my daughter dinner every night and I can't eat it so she has started not eating because I'm not eating the same things with her. There is some really good support on this thread, stick around we are all here for each other :)

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Welcome Darla!! :welcomeB: Looks like you're gonna be the first one of us to get banded!! I'll be right behind you!! You're so lucky to have your daughter to go through this with. Bandedme - The liquid diet is for those that are required to do so by their insurance companies to see if they can lose weight withOUT surgery and also to make the surgery safer. Also, some doctors require a few days of liquid diet to help them stick to a low-carb, low-fat diet prior to surgery so that the liver will be less "fatty". If your doctor doesn't require that (mine doesn't either) then just be grateful!! As for post-op, all the stories are different. I was shocked to find that my doc only requires a 'liquid' diet, not a 'clear liquid' diet....and I can even have cottage cheese, yogurt, and applesauce in the 1st 48 hours. After that I go straight to 'mushies'. When you start shopping again for your family, $20 says that you'll start buying much healthier food for everyone...and you'll be eating the same things, just less of them. Or they get pasta or rice as a side dish and you'll just skip those things. I know my husband is looking forward to the weight he'll be losing along with me after my procedure...when I eat healthier, so does everyone! And YES, running around after 3 kids DEFINITELY counts as exercise!!!!

    April 2014 pre-op group

I am two weeks post op tomorrow. I feel fantastic until I forget and take a big gulp of something or think I can eat a bit more than I can. It isn't that I try to force food in, it's just that when I get full, (which I always am) but I need to try to get some food in, I get really full and it hurts. There is no way I am getting in enough protein or fluids. However, when I eat yogurt, I can eat the entire container, although it does take me at least 40 minutes. I eat 90% of the food I eat each day at my office at my desk. I went back to work on day six. I have felt great since two days after I surgery. I have looked for protein powder and I can't find it locally. The only I nes they have are either vanilla or chocolate flavored. I usually make protein shakes with it, almond milk and frozen strawberries. I will have to do it again and freeze half of it for "ice cream" and drink the other half. My goal this week is to make plenty of good pureed foods. I am just so sick of pureed. I want to eat food. I've only had two instances of dumping, one caused diarrhea and the other just lots of pain. I got a tiny piece of crab stuck and that I had to bend way over and force it to come back out. I tried a rolo today (sucked it so it dissolved) just to see if sweets would not sit right with me like most people. Unfortunately it was just fine. I don't go back to the doc until the 23rd. That is when I get to go to soft foods. Then I am on those for six weeks. I just want to be able to eat small amounts of normal food and drink my water the way I normally do. The
  5. so i've been BAD lately...been on a 3 week bender....i don't know why i do this to myself!!! Anyhoo, my cheating and acting like what i eat does not make me gain weight actually made me gain like 7lbs. in 3 freaking weeks!!! Did i mention that i have not exercised either? oh yeah. just tv and food. SO i'm back..and i'm ready to be accountable again. Today b: plain greek yogurt with fresh blueberrys, granola and a little honey on top l: lean cuisine panini d: not sure. i might make myself a salad with some leftover roasted chicken. s: fruit--if needed Exercise: well i'm going to the chiropractor today right after work to have my back checked on...i have this funny feeling though that it hurts because i stopped exercising...i might go for a walk tonight if i don't get home too late from the doc
  6. My nutritional plan has completely changed..here it goes: Meal #1: 1/2 cup of pineapple, 1/2 cup of 1% cottage cheese Meal #2: Protein shake..isopure (50 grams of protein!)..plain yogurt mixed in with some rasberries Meal #3: Salad: 4 oz (if im lucky) Grilled chicken, flaxseed oil, spinach, almonds, carrots, kidney beans, and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese on top for dressing (I usually split this for meal #4 and just add more chicken) Meal #4: See above Meal #5: Sauteed chicken (4 oz), in olive oil, green peppers and onions, garlic, made up for a chicken fajita...without the fajita..also add flaxseed oil when cooking Meal #6: Plain yogurt with some added strawberries and pure vanilla extract Of course all bets are off if my food gets stuck and takes hours to get through..but I do the best I can.

Insomnia... grrr. Well just start my day early and get on with it! LOL... Having a bit of acid reflux so drank a bit of Water and sitting up will be a good thing I hope. Not sure why acid reflux is getting to me lately. Had not had issues much with this in the first 4 years post band. Anyone else have issues with acid reflux? My mom, who is 90, continues to have back pain. Putting that on my first to deal with issues for today as the Dr. comes in at 9 am. Making some Italian Wedding Soup with tiny meatballs in it today. Yogurt and Cereal first. Need to focus on vit/min and water too. Planning a gym day. Be a blessing today!

Goood morning everyone! Yesterday was an emotional day for me, many "breaks" were needed to regain composure BUT I made it with a lot of love and support from my husband, kiddos, family and friends. You are all such an amazing group of people!!! Yesterday was a good day in regards to staying with my plan, I had some variations to what I posted basically eating 6 small meals throughout the day, the last one being at 9pm because that's when we got home from Disney on Ice and I was STARVING. Other than that I stayed under my target calorie count of 1338 and consumed 1290. Water was on point, no exercise, NO TREATS! This not weighing thing is a double edged sword. I felt so free this morning knowing that I wasn't going to step on that thing and let it determine my day, but I'm also going crazy wondering what's happening and heck it's only day 2 not much could've possible happened:-) Taking it in stride though! Today's plan will go SOMETHING like this. It's going to be another busy day so it may vary but I will stay on plan. Today is Grandparents Day at my daughters pre-school so they're having a little program, I can't tell you how much I love these! Any way back to my plan: Again variations so wanting to stay at 1200 or under for the day. B: Yogurt & Trail Mix 250 cal 17P L: Not sure to be honest will aim to keep it around 300 cal S: If needed Protein Bar 160 cal 20p D: Skinny chicken Casserole: 250 cal approx. 29 p S: Skinny Cow Ice Cream- 160 cal 80 oz of water. I will try to get some form of movement in. Cal 1120 Approx. 81 P Talk about holding someone accountable, my son said hey mommy were not doing a very good job at doing that exercise video every night like you said you wanted to....wawawa. Let's DO THIS!:-)

Today is going to be a great day because I'm going to make it one! Taking the kiddos tonight to see Disney on Ice, not sure who's more excited them or me:-) Probably will grab a quick dinner on the way there, probably Wendy's so no problem I will just work it into my "plan" for today (which as you can see below is really under-developed). My goal is not to go over 1338 cal. for today. 88 oz of Water and I will try for those darn stairs again. Yesterday I got pulled into a meeting that went a lot longer than expected so the stairs didn't happen. However, today, I think the stairs and moving around as much as possible will help me get through this day with a smile. Today's plan B: Yogurt & trail mix- 250 cal 17p L: Not sure something light and low cal- try not to exceed 250 cal- maybe another jimmy johns unwich for 170 cal 22p (although yesterday the lettuce didn't seem to go down as normal.) D: Wendy's 4pc spicy chicken nuggets 170 cal 10p S: For Disney on Ice- Protein Bar 160 cal 20p I'm going to try and "save" some of my calories in case something unexpected comes along so I don't blow it out of the water and if nothing unexpected comes along well then I'll just add that as a win and hopefully this will assist in my weigh-in next Friday:-) Let's continue moving forward, no looking back, full speed ahead with our heads held high, shoulders back, smile on, working it! We should all remember how awesome we are and that just because we hit a bump now and then, that doesn't change a thing, we all get up and we're back at it today and that's ALL that matters! We don't have to be perfect to be successful! What is perfection any way?? I don't know because I've never seen it! 1-2-3 BREAK!

    February 2016 sleevers?

I had a hard time because of hunger and tiredness the first two days. Wednesday and Thursday weren't as hard but I was still hungry. Today I had a harder time because there was a Superbowl Party right behind my desk, but I have fantastic friends that brought veggies and low fat dip and a strawberry salad. I had raw veggies with a little dip and a salad with some raspberry vinaigrette. Not too much sugar and I didn't veer far off the path too far. I had a shake an hour ago because I stay hungry! Do the best you can. It's a struggle but you can do it! it's hard isn't it,I'm on a liquid only diet so I'm allowed 8 yogurts a day with 1 pint of milk that's all :-( the yogurts are making me feel sick though so only managed to eat half of one today and yesterday! But I've lost 8 pounds so that's good I guess! Thank you for your support :-) we can get through this ???? 10 days left until surgery!!

  13. Thanks Christine I have loved all your recipes so far........I have tried the cauliflower when I was doing weight watchers and liked it. But you add quite a few things in.....I am gonna try it!! My goal this week is to stay away from carbs and start back on the proteins big time.......... I got this new greek yogurt at safeway that has 15 grams of protien and it is low fat if you get the vanilla flavor. Reggie I am drinking about 60+ ounces of water with no problems. The first few days after surgery I didn't get enough liquids..........but not because I couldn't drink it ....because I was sleeping so much I just could'nt sip as much as they wanted me too...........since than I am getting enough liquids. I was also drinking 100+ before surgery and that I am not back to yet. I get side cramps if I drink to much or to fast.............warning to stop. Same with eathing I get a side cramp when I eat even is just a little.............still healing I am sure. So excited for everyone getting banded this month!! It is totally survivable and that 10 pound weight drop in the fist week was a bonus!!!

  15. Hi everyone! I'm joining August Rush  I was banded on Monday. So far, feeling a lot better but still incredibly sore around my belly button. chicken broth was absolutely amazing for about a day and already I'm bored. Looking to move onto better Soups. Gas is still killing me ... gas x strips (after 2 boxes in 2 days -- bad i know) is not helping any longer. can we take tums? Another Question: anyone do any sugar free frozen yogurt or sorbet? Is chocolate flavor off limits? Nice to join the August-ers!!
  16. yesterday: B: Mocha latte flavored muscle milk S: 1 container blueberry greek yogurt w/sliced almonds mixed in L: 2oz leftover turkey meatloaf D: 1 small slice of buffalo chicken pizza w/ranch dressing

    Any Sleever's from NY?

yogurt will go down fine and it is the one thing I was able to eat the most of but I gotta tell you it all gets old real quick lol I got to the point that I couldn't even drink a Protein shake anymore it just wouldn't go down the taste and thickness of it just started to make me choke.. I finally order this stuff callled click protein it taste like coffee, alot of people on here will say it is the wrong protein, but liz ( the Nut ) was starting to get so worried about the amount of protein I was getting that she didn't care and told me to drink it even tho it wasn't whey... She also told me I could drink through a straw because I wasn't getting my fluids in and I told her I could drink more with a straw and she said fine then do it. She also allowed me smoothies shakes that I would make using yogurt, calorie countdown milk and fruit or I think in the beginning I was using the torani syrup instead of fruit and then moved on to real fruit later.

  21. It is really not that serious Shelley and really between Bob and the OP on another thread--why chastise him and then come to a whole another thread and be just as rude and call people you do don't know who agree with Bob a clique? Really I take everything said up here with a grain of salt because really no one is an expert. Can't we just all get along? BTW Subway also has yogurt--Dannon light and fit.
  22. I'm back! I had to go to south Texas for a software training class for work. It was a 6 hour drive there on Sunday afternoon and training from 9-4 and home at 11 pm. I ate 1/4 of a Reuben sandwich, 1 french fry, and a chocolate chip cookie on Sunday and Monday I had a greek yogurt that I had brought then we ate at a Tex-Mex resturant and I had a crispy taco and 5 chips with hot sauce and on the way home a bowl of loaded potato soup. I was sick as hell when I got home. Now that I rarely eat out it really affects me when I do. I forced my 15 year old son to go with me. It was nice to have just him around, it was like we were before he became a teen and had better things to do than hang out with mom. Of course, he was on the laptop and texting his girlfriend but I did get some conversation from him. Remeber when you just had to ride with no entertainment? I did lose a pound, it took 11 days this time. I am exactly equal to the absolute lowest weight since I got pregnant with my son, when I lose 1 more pound I will offically be thinner than I have been in 16 years. :smile2:
  23. Yesterday- B-FF Yogurt with Granola L-2 oz of teriyaki chicken 1/3 c of rice s-Kashi Go Lean Bar D-thalapia and 1/3 c salad
  24. Hey Everyone! After 14 months being banded and finally having found my sweet spot, this is what a typical day's meals are like for me: Breakfast: 2 cups of coffee 1 cup of yogurt 1 piece of fruit 2-3 prunes on those rare days when I am really hungry in the morning, I will have 1/4 cup granola mixed into my yogurt. Mid Morning Snack: granola bar Lunch: 1 slice very heavy bread with lots of whole grains and little flour in it. this is a very moist bread. 1 tablespoon diet margarine 2 slices deli ham or bologna 2 deli slices of cheese 1 piece of fruit Afternoon Snack: 3 prunes 1 chocolate covered cookie or occasionally a thin slice of cake 1 cup of coffee Dinner: deck of cards sized piece of steak or fish, chicken thigh or a good german wurst. one cup of cooked veggies or a salad with raw veggies and croutons Of course I drink a minimum of 2 liters of water a day. For an extra treat and pick up, I occasionally have a small glass of juice. Sometimes I will have a mini snack about 9 pm. I tend to stay up late due to my many evening activities besides being in the chat room! LOL! The snack may be a couple pretzel sticks, a handful of tostidos or another piece of fruit or 2-3 more prunes. Some days I need to add a little more, others I eat less. It all depends on my activity level. Hope this will help. Katja
