  1. Who told you that? If it wasn't a representative at Aetna, then I wouldn't worry too much about it, and three pounds isn't much, 3lbs of weight gain could be a number of things. I'll lose 3lbs if I take some Miralax and have a good dump. LOL
  2. Unfortunately, I HAVE heard of people being denied because of weight gain. So be careful. All the more reason to follow your pre-op diet to a T! NOW is the time to start making new habits, exercise, eating cleanly.
  3. I had a stall from hell that just stopped (2 months). It started about 3 months out from surgery. I take a bunch of meds very similar to yours. But they don't help in the weight loss. Some cause weight gain, wanting to eat more, etc.. blah, blah, blah, you know all of this. Its a further challenge for us then what others may have in the weight loss process. It seems harder with mental illness as the stress of "WTF did I do to cause this" start to jack hammer my brain, but it was just a stall and nothing I could do about it. I did a lot of food adjustments such as decrease calories, increased calories, I increased my exercise, riding my bike twice a day. The exercise didn't help with weight loss during the stall but I felt better as it helped with some of the stress. I would just suggest to focused on other things. The weight will start to drop off. Only thing I can say is what others told me. Hang in there, its just a stall and it will pass. Your body is losing weight and sometimes has to stop to readjust. Your not alone in this. Many of us have been there before and you should start to lose again when your body is ready. Feel free to reach out if you ever want to chat.

    Hello Everyone

GOOD JOB!! Size 10, oh how I want to see that size again. Currently at a 16/18 (was at a 20/22). I know that I too will have tummy issues after having 2 c-section and the weight gain. I'll tackle that when I get to my ultimate goal. Thanks for posting, it’s great to hear good news!
  5. Ok so my pregnancy is going great, baby caught back up to what he/she is suppose to be. So my due date its moved back tool Feb 28th, morning sickness is just at night. Hello Sept 2005 Hows it going?

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi again. I've been struggling with weight gain since an unfill in Sept 07 as well. I've had several re-fills but still can't seem to relose those pounds. I know it is mostly head issues at this point but sometimes I worry I may also have a bit of a slipped band. If I could only commit to following the bandster rules again for a couple weeks to see if I still have problems I'd go back in and start asking for some tests to confirm or rule out a slip.

    Artificial sweeteners?

@@smb1966 As far as artificial sweeteners are concerned, all have their disadvantages and research suggests using them sparingly. I have been told by both my PCP and surgeon that our bodies can actually process zero-calorie sweeteners as it would sugar, causing both weight gain and insulin resistance. I try really hard to use any type of sweetener in extreme moderation. I used to use Splenda for recipes, especially for baking as it worked great as a substitute for white sugar, even the BS Splenda was a great alternative to regular brown sugar. However, I have recently discovered Monk Fruit (in the raw) and it has made a wonderful substitute for Splenda and or white sugar. It doesn't have that licorice taste that Stevia has and it is much sweeter than white sugar. http://www.intheraw.com/products/faqs/monk-fruit-in-the-raw
  8. So I am three days post op.. came home from the hospital and I am up 7 pounds from when I left.. Is that normal??? Thanks!

    treated bad.....

I am at 7cc and I couldn't imagine having anymore in my fill- but you have to remember everyone is different. Comorbidities, like Diabetes, do cause complications- but there is absolutely no reason I could think of that would have caused your 10 lbs weight gain without "cheating". It isn't worth the chance of band slippage, paying to have it repaired and going through it all again. I feel for you- that is no way to be treated, but consider that they are not angry at you but angry that you are failing your band. What types of foods are you eating? Are you hungry or bored? Do you push past FULL? Hope all gets better- stay on top of your sugars and your choices!!! I have reached a huge goal- down 40 lbs today. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
  10. I was never athletic, but I have always been pretty active. I lost weight on WW years ago, and got to be pretty regular at the gym. Unfortunately I got out of the habit, and then lost my mom and generally wasn't taking very good care of myself. It was harder to get started because of my weight gain. I walked after surgery and then joined the Y about a month ago (8 weeks post op.) Now I've added strength training and I'm starting to see results. I don't have the same aches and pains with working out that I used to. I look forward to my trips to the gym. It seems to me that if you have a history of exercise, it will make it easier for you to return to it after surgery. I think it is harder for people who haven't been in the habit of being active. Good luck!
  11. I had my sleeve August 18th 2014. I have not drank any alcohol since August the 9th over 4 months. I am wanting to drink but I am afraid for a few reasons. I am afraid I will gain weight, afraid I will get sick or dehydrated, but the weight gain is my biggest worry I have come to far to fail now. Any sleevers that drink ???
  12. My surgery (sleeve) was 7/16/15. Reached Original Weight Goal !!!!!

What changed? Did you stop eating healthy, not working out, or??? I'm asking because I'm newly banded and want to understand what contributed to the weight gain. Thanks and best wishes!

Accused of Taking easy Way out!!!

Some people are just ignorant and stubborn. He's obviously not very educated in weight loss, most people who diet and exercise to lose weight gain it back within the next two years. I had a couple of friends that did not understand why I would be willing to go through surgery too. I just told them that the Lap-band® is a tool to weightloss, it's not a solution, we still have to work to lose weight. If he's a good friend you should explain everything to him and hopefully he'll understand better. good luck :]

    Veterans with Bipolar

Hi! I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It’s difficult to balance for sure. As a diagnosed BP I can relate. My surgeon and psychiatrist have given me positive reviews on the gastric sleeve. I’m 8 months post op and have been doing well. I can honestly attribute much of the initial weight gain from BP depression and BP meds. I was at an athletic weight until 27 years old. Then diagnosed. Not sure if you’ve experienced this - but it took years to find the right mix of meds that worked. Now that I have found the right mix, I am stable and my weight has been stable. I would definitely discuss medications with psych and ask for an honest opinion if the meds affect weight. AND CONGRATS 🎉 ON YOUR POSITIVE GAINS!!!! You’ve come so far!
  18. I'm a 51 year old guy that has spent the better part of three decades letting my weight define me. It was always a convenient excuse for anything that went wrong - health, problems at work (fat haters...), relationship issues. etc. A dozen years ago i married a wonderful woman who opened my eyes to this, but it still took me until this year to finally do something about it. Actually, it took my body saying enough, through ever growing pains, high blood pressure and sleep apnea to leave me no choice (if I wanted to have any semblance of quality of life, that is) So, I bit the bullet and decided in late May to have WL surgery. I opted for a sleeve and had the surgery July 29. I am 5"10" tall and weighed 347.8 lbs when I made the decision, and after the two week liquid diet my surgery weight was 331.8. Two months and lots of effort later, I weighed in this morning at 288.2! The journey has not been easy, but really worth it. Along the way, I have begun to exercise regularly (I bought an old Nordic Track and have been using it religiously every day), have fought my food desires (mostly successfully) and recognized that the surgery was only the first phase. I have tried eating what I should not or in ways I shouldn't (bread, pasta, too much or too fast) and suffered the pain and nausea (who though such a little sleeve could make you feel soooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad). I have also had the joy of watching old clothes disappear almost as quickly as the weight. I have obsessed at the scale and fretted over stalls and, God forbid - weight gain. I have watched my friends and family eat heartily and felt the the pangs of remorse. But the I would get up (without pain or strain) and realize that I had indeed embarked on a new life. As I moved around more freely, the regret would slip away. Sorry for the rambling, but at this point, it's a jumble of feelings that I am trying to organize and understand. So far, the problems, while overwhelming at the moment they occur (especially when I eat what I shouldn't or too fast), rapidly fade in comparison to how good I am feeling and how mobile I have become. I remain committed to this journey. Wish me luck!!!!
  19. To be strict or to be lax in this process is a personal choice. We are all adults and make are own food choices. The only one that has to be happy with your weight loss is you. Maintaining : I indulge once in a while. If it causes weight gain, I go back to bariatric food plan to get the weight off. Weight loss mode: I was consistent not perfect. I had slips and got right back on plan. We do have a cheats thread that shows you Yes, people eat foods that are off plan. I'm a bit conflicted about the thread. https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/417492-confessional-lets-post-our-cheatsconfessionsetc-so-others-can-see-that-we-are-all-human/?tab=comments#comment-4667931 Things to think about in going off plan or indulging once in a while: Adding carbohydrates and sugar makes you crave them more. It takes time to detox and get back on plan your first few months is your best weight loss. You also have your golden year. Weight loss is harder after your first year( still can be done) Monitor if indulging is slowing your weight loss down. Will it make getting to your goal take more time? WIll indulging become habit? Every weekend? Every month? How solid are you in behavior change? Going off plan can be a slippery slope for some. With the sleeve, you will get to a point that you noticeably can consume more food as your restriction becomes less. What has made people successful 2 years + out

    Fruity advice?

Every one seems to be different and every nutrtitionist seems to have a different opinion on this. I choose to eat fruit; one because it is natural and non-processed. I eat fresh fruit only! Fruit has lots of fiber and Water. The thing is a lot of people add "stuff" to their fruit like sugar, salt, that will increase weight gain. I eat straight fruit/veggies raw with nothing added. Many times when I eat fruit I will mix it with a Protein for a snack- like apples and Peanut Butter, cucumber sticks and hummas, cheese and grapes. Thus far as long as I chew well I have had no problems with any type of fruit. Each person has to do what works for them.

Post Op and soooooo many questions!

Most of what your saying is very common post-op, even the weight gain. I encourage you to go your doctor visit and get some answers straight from the horse's mouth. Good luck!

Just a Vent, then I'll shut up

Thank you guys! I'm just upset because going onto my 4th year, I just wanted to live like a normal person and not always just watch what I eat. . . guess not. I'm back on the wagon. I've been following the Atkins plan for nearly 1 year. It works well and when I went off and added some carbs which i wasn't supposed to yet, i guess my body retaliated and i did feel badly. Nausea, bloaty, swelling, weight gain. . etc. But I'm back on it now and won't be coming off it. Protein good, carbs bad. . . water good, soda bad! lol. . . . thanks again, i really feel better knowing that you all understood. . . blessings and pleasant journey (it's a damn long one)

    Psych Eval Day

I feel we are SOOOO similar. I definitely want to go to counseling after surgery. Just to deal with my underlying issues of WHY I gained weight in the first place. But I have to figure out if its covered on my insurance. I am definitely going to support groups though. My mother has ALWAYS commented on my weight, even when I was skinny! I feel thats a huge reason of my weight gain over the years. And I have always been the same, losing when I am in a new love and gaining it all when Im single or after the honeymoon phase of the relationship. Ugh. We also have similar stats! Im 5'3 and 230!
  24. Most doctors recommend a year after placement of the band. The reason is because you need time to be healthy, establish new eating/cooking habits, etc. Not only that, but the weight gain from becoming pregnant can mess with a newly banded person's mind. Talk to your surgeon first since you're wanting it to happen so quickly.
