    Have they checked to see if you have a stricture ? They thought I had but it all settled down at about 8 weeks out.

    Dehydration after surgery

    The dehydration occurs if you’re not getting in or aren’t close to getting in your 64oz/2L. Some people struggle at first because of post surgical swelling (hurts to swallow) & for many it’s a new habit to drink that much &/or to sip slowly. I always drank a lot of water so I probably went into surgery being long term hydrated. For the first 24hrs after surgery my surgeon pumped me full of fluids. I had a lot of swelling & wouldn’t have drunk 1/2 cup of any liquid. Slept a lot & wasn’t interested in consuming anything. Day 2 maybe drank a cup but peed all day long. Day 3 could have a little more & each subsequent day I was getting closer to goal. Probably took a good week to be reach or be close to goal. Was never dehydrated. Sip all day long. Set an alarm on your phone so every few minutes you sip. Keep fluids beside you at all times including by your bed (sip whenever you wake through the night - I still do). Some people find ice cold liquids easier to drink. I preferred them to be warm - more soothing. My first mug of green tea was glorious. Remember your fluid goals include all the liquids you consume: shakes, water, herbal or green teas, broths, soups, etc.

    Glad to find this thread. I’m definitely a slow loser and I’m trying really hard to stay encouraged. I was 255 my day of surgery. 6 weeks out I weighed in at 249. Not even 10 pounds. And I’m doing everything that I was instructed to do. Staying on the diet, watching my portions, tracking my meals, the 20 20 20, getting the right amount of protein, drinking enough fluid, exercising every day. I am honestly very discouraged to not see any real movement. But it is encouraging to know that I’m not alone. But I’ve definitely had moments where I wondered, what was the purpose of going through all this and getting the surgery, if almost 2 months out, I’m not even at 15 pounds weight loss? The doctors and dietitian say I’m not doing anything wrong and to be patient, but I feel it’s much easier to say that than it is to be dealing with it. Just had to vent that. Now I’m in tears smh. But I’ll keep swimming.

    Curious if others have had nicotine blood tests? I was a smoker 21+ years ago but quit. Ive had 2 nicotine tests already and I was just told the other day that I had to get another 1 week before surgery. I may have been told but dont remember, why is this necessary?

    Regrets...anyone?

    I’m 7 weeks post op and have all the regrets. I can’t stay hydrated and nothing seems to sit well even fluids. Can’t handle protein drinks or any of the water add ins. IVs keeping me hydrated at this point. I am hungry but can’t eat and have almost no physical strength anymore. Say it gets better.
  6. I havent had the sleeve surgery yet but its supposed to be sometime mid May or end of May. Still waiting on scheduling to call me. I havent started regretting it yet since Ive not had surgery but I have gone back and forth numerous times of asking myself do I really want to do this. Sometimes its yes and sometimes its no, I believe my mind is just trying to talk me out of it because its the "unknown" as to how my body will react. I have to say honestly I am very fortunate as I am not on pills for high blood pressure, diabetes or anything else. Im just morbidly obese (I hate those words lol) What I do have is a knee injury from about 15 yrs ago that I have severe osteoarthritis from and I was just told this past week that I need a knee replacement! Im only 53 so I said no, whats my other options. I was told therapy and cortisone/steroid shots in the knee to maybe postpone it. I was also told at my current weight I could not be a candidate because I am too big *sighs*. So Im seeing this surgery as beneficial and something I need to do for my overall health, knee issues and I still have a young son at home who needs me to live an active life (he's 11). If I get in the muddy grub mindset I try to direct my thoughts in another direction. Not saying that after surgery will be different or that I may not start regretting it but I have goals I need to see through to the end if at all possible I have heard the same thing about the gas pains but Ive also heard people say they took Gas X and walked alot and that seems to help dissipate it. Hoping to stay positive going down this road and your words from your experience is very helpful. Thank you for sharing!

    hiatal hernia

    Mine was discovered during surgery, and was a very large hernia, so I'd been living with it for a long time. It explains a lot: the reflux, the discomfort I'd feel after eating a big meal right under the ribs, etc. That said, pain in that region could also be gallstones (though that's typically a little over to your right side), or an ulcer. I've had all three.
  8. I've talked to a few people personally and 2 out of 3 said they got really dehydrated and had to get it IV Fluids more then once days after surgery. I'm trying to figure out how to prevent this from happening. I know drink fluids but they said they were but still got dehydrated. Any tricks I need to know. I'm 2 week out from surgery 😬
  9. I had my sleeve done in April of 2012. Had decent success until 2018 when I gained ALL of the weight back. I am now 2 weeks away from getting a re-sleeve. It is with a differnt surgeon this time due to the fact my original surgeon won't do it. I am very nervous. I worry about the actual surgery. Mostly because I already have staples & such I expect it to be more difficult. I know there isn't too much on this forum about getting a re-sleeve but I was wondering if anyone has had any personal experiences with this. Wondering if it will be as successful as the 1st was oringally. NOTE: I have made the personal decision not to have the bypass as an alternative. My doctor says that it is the usual revisionj choice but I am even more scared of that surgery!

    I’m about 5 days into my 2 week liquid diet. I was not thrilled to do it, but I have to say it’s not too bad. It’s helping me mentally prepare for what life will be after surgery and I’m down 7lbs from my starting weight of 216 before the liquids. I understand it’s mostly water weight but to see the scale move down is motivating for me. Also my sleep quality has been much better. Also, I don’t want to have a 5th incision if not necessary and I want the best possible recovery as I can have. My doctor told me that he has noticed a difference when people do not follow the plan from those who do. But yea every doctor has their own ways of doing things but where I am in the NYC area this seems to be the norm.

    I'm reading a lot about 2 week liquid diet. I was approved for weight loss surgery 3 years ago and even had a surgery date scheduled and mentally was not prepared. I ended up canceling the surgery, and my doctor at the time did this 2 week liquid diet. My doctor this time around did not require that. I'm very thankful for it. I talked to him about it (a very respected surgeon here) and he just finds it's something really hard to invoke on someone who has already made a hard decision. I had a full breakfast the morning before the surgery and then broth for lunch and dinner and surgery the next day. He said if my liver covered part of my stomach (the liquid diet is to shrink your liver) that he would simply put in a 5th laparoscopic hole and insert a device that is used to keep the liver pushed up. Surprised that the liquid diet is so common prior to surgery....

    I should say too that 600 calories a day sounds really little to me - is that until you get where you want to be or just for the first few weeks?

    There are calculators but your body won't know that Kelly! They're based on averages and most people don't stick to those. If you're looking for a ballpark my surgeon said that people lose an average of 60-70% of their *excess* body weight in two years. That's not to say all people though - some do (much) better some do (much) worse. I'm a bit control freaky too so I have had a hard time not being able to predict what will happen from one week or month to the next. But I have learned to trust my sleeve - it's working really well for me. Your body will already have a new set point in mind and once you get there that's it - I believe we either accept that or we fight tooth and nail to lose more to get to OUR ideal (not our BODY'S new ideal) and then fight forever to stay there. And most of us have spent a good part of our lives fighting the same fight and losing. I hope you do really well with your sleeve - you're already doing brilliantly. Stick to the rules and you will lose, there's no way on this earth that you won't. And if you stick to the rules for a long time you will get to your new set weight. How much you will lose and how fast is, unfortunately for you and me, pretty much impossible to say.

    Mine too - is that not how the liver gets shrunk? I was on 800 calories a day for 2 weeks pre-op. OP I hope you can get back on the horse and not slip again - it would be awful if your operation didn't go ahead. It is super hard though. Good luck.

    I had a tendency to stall for long periods then drop a ton quickly…. Then stall for forever and a day again… rinse and repeat. Overall it was agonizingly slow food wise now: Breakfast: a slice of toast with peanut butter or avocado. If peanut butter I will add 1/4 of a banana (sliced) lunch: P3 peanut cluster pack and a chobani yogurt. dinner: chicken/shrimp/ rarely pork or beef (pork for some reason my stomach can’t handle very easily. That was the first food that gave me foamies and it sits like a rock in my stomach 🤷🏼‍♀️) for snacks I tend to have nuts or cheese or yogurt. im boring with food. I tend to do what works and that’s it. I don’t like to think about food and honestly I am never really “hungry”. I think I’ve only been hungry once since surgery and it was one of those things where I was working on a home improvement project and lost track of time/forgot to eat and missed eating for almost the whole day. So I really don’t even classify my hunger as coming back yet since it was only the one time. I just got Invisalign so I am not really wanted to snack much either lol. My calories were in the 1000 range up until a few weeks ago and my nutritionist freaked out because she said I should be 1700. I had a meeting with a different nutritionist and she said I could push myself to 1400-1500. So that’s what I did and I started losing again. Their reasoning was that they didn’t want my metabolism and body to adjust to 1000 calories because that wasn’t sustainable long term. typically people say that you have a bounce back from your lowest weight. My family is a tad concerned I lost “too much”. I do have lots of loose skin 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t like it so I tend to hide behind clothes. as far as osteoarthritis… with that amount of weight loss I actually hardly feel any pain and can walk around like it’s nothing. I can’t run (high impact) or jump (also high impact) but easier exercise is fine. I’m currently taking it easy because I played basketball/handball with my students and stressed my knee out by doing all the things I shouldn’t have been doing 😅 I tend to walk A LOT. I have a big campus and I walk back and forth all day, I have a standing desk with no chair so it encourages me to walk/rotate the room. My arthritis was so advanced it looked like an X-ray from someone who is in their late 80’s and they were talking knee replacement surgery. I was in a wheelchair. They wouldn’t do the surgery Because of my weight and my age (too young). By doing the weight loss surgery I have put off that need for a knee replacement indefinitely.

    Thank you catwoman7. I didn’t know you were a slow loser as well. But I do remember your posts on your weight loss and definitely so proud of you. Thank you for confirming my concerns were valid. Did you remember doing anything particularly different when the stalls broke? Or your body just decided for you? I wish you continued long term success my dear.
  21. Does anybody know what the "expected weight loss percentage" is for immediately after surgery and how the weight loss curves. I guess I'm trying to set up my predictable timeline. For example, it's been 2 weeks since surgery. I lost 10.4 lbs. That is 5.36% My nutritionist said my expected weight loss is 50-60 lbs in 6 months based on my metabolic test and a 600 Kcal/day diet. My resting energy expenditure test reported that I am using 16556vKcal/day. I saw another physician video stating that the curve is greatest in the first 3 months. Then the next 9 months you would expect to lose the same amount as you lost in the first 3 months. Simply, I want to track my weight loss and measure against something scientifically predicted based on those who have had bariatric surgery. Do you guys know of any calculator/program like that?
  22. I’ve been trying to work out of a stall, and I did confirm my bust out with negative scale action. The thing is, I noticed that I was drinking more water than normal, like my body demanded it. I was breathing deeper, not panting, just like deep yoga breaths, I was sleepy earlier (good for combating night snacking). And I was finding myself chilly on this lovely Spring. What clues does your body tell you BEFORE you see the scale when you’re burning calories? Or what clues do you see when you are maintaining properly?

    You are so welcome! ❤️ and, no surgery date. I’m thinking that I wasn’t enough of a squeaky wheel and I fell through the cracks (3 weeks for the CPAP machine to be ordered) BUT, as much as I wish that Monday was actually my surgery date, I’m ok. I know that it would bother me if I wasn’t there 100% for my kids at school who are coming into the home stretch after 2 years of Covid-hell. Dh and I are cleaning as if Monday was my surgery and I’m going to see where we go from here date wise. I can take enormous pleasure and have peace of mind if I know my house is clean! 🤗

    I’m a slow looser like you and sometimes panic over the stalls. I also panic a bit about not loosing the majority of weight during this golden year-year and a half that our tool gives us. Then I look at the big picture of a 130 lb loss and don’t worry so much. I’m shorter than you and lost the majority of weight before surgery. I’m averaging about 3-4 lbs a month after the 6 month mark. “Keep swimming, keep swimming “, said Dory. I also have osteoarthritis like other posters and found that weight lifting (smartly) , biking, rowing, and gentle yoga like chair or Hatha helps me stay active without pain. My garden gives me a good amount of gentle activity too. Now if I could only loose weight by activity alone, alas it never works!
