I just got a call from surgeons office, my revision is approved! They will be giving me a call to set up surgery date pending pre surgical clearances! Such awesome news!

Day 4 of 3 Week Liquid Diet

Good luck 3 weeks is long time- I was just advised I will need 2 week Pre-Op diet due to revision and need to reduce liver as much as possible. Luckily I like shakes (At least for now-That may change after 2 solid weeks of them), and I will be on diet from May 3 thru 3-17, so not during any major holiday.

Will I be ready for vacation?

@@pinklantern - I would say yes, unless you have something else going on. I wasn't a revision, straight to sleeve, but other than staying hydrated here in Florida - I would think you would be fine 2months out.
  4. Revision from band to sleeve on 4/15/16 and have a vacation to Florida scheduled for 6/17/16. Will I be ok for swimming and enjoying all that one does on a vacation at a beach resort?
  5. @@Stacylynn1982 Yaaay for another one of us:) what are the symptoms that you have of possible erosion? I am concerned about this as well because my surgeon said if I have erosion he would remove the band I would have to heal then do the bypass and I want to do both in one which is what he normally does. He said that I don't have signs of erosion so he is not worried but I am still concerned that i am going to wake up and find out they didn't do revision
  6. Usernamtaken and heatherg0907 we all have similar stories. I am waiting on my insurance decision for the revision. I can't eat real food most days and this band has been more of a hassle than help. My last surgeon stopped using the band. My last appointment he called in nurses to see what the needle looked like for a fill. My new surgeon is now concerned with a slip and erosion. I am grateful for all the support in this forum Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pre Op testing before RNY

I know right! That was my theory also. I really thought that I should be doing more. I'm not a revision patient.
  9. Heather, Definitely! Glad to know we are not alone:) I am still nervous about the revision and I am sure I will be freaking out before surgery but I am not letting fear stop me. I actually regret not get bypass done first time around.

    Pre Op testing before RNY

Are you getting a revision? If not I am really surprised you aren't getting a full work up. Most of us have sleep apnea tests, vials and vials of blood taken, cardiologist clearance, psych clearance etc. this is major surgery and shouldn't be taken lightly.
  11. Wow listening to you all is really helpful and encouraging. I was banded in 2007 lost some weight I think it was mostly due to liquid diet after surgery, been struggling with it ever since. I have been feeling like a failure for many years now with it. I moved so I had to go to another dr for follow up, he made me feel that it was my fault that I don't know how to use the band, I had lots of heartburn so we emptied the band.... And I never went back to that dr. A year went by, more weight came on... I finally decided I have had enough and started doing research on revision surgery even though I was terrified. I was shocked to learn that revisions are very common now, so many people have issues with them (the band) and many surgeons don't even offer it anymore. Before I learned this I felt like I was all alone in the world and that it was my fault that I could not make it work. My husband has been telling me for years to get this band removed because I would have all these stuck episodes, be in so much pain and still obese. So finally I made up my mind, found a new doctor last August who is great, but about an hour drive, well worth it... Did all insurance requirements and now 2nd week into insurance review... Really hoping for approval on the first try, if they do approve I most likely will be having surgery in May as well. I already have my pre op clearances scheduled for mid April. Cannot wait to get this done and start over again and hopefully this time get there and stay there. I so appreciate everyone sharing your experiences and stories, definitely need this support!

    The ghost of my port...

I had the band for 9 1/2 years before my revision last July. Had phantom port pain for the first 6 months. Now just every now and then.
  13. Heatherg0997 I am in the process of waiting for approval for revision. Congrats on getting it done first of all. Second l, don't compare the band to GB. There is a huge difference and be positive. You got this!! I am hoping for a May revision as well. I have had a lot of problems with the band too but did have 163 pound weight loss until my problems started now I have gained 35 pounds. So depressing. Keep me posted on your journey. You are going to be successful. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I was approved for revision from band to rny about a month ago, still have about month til my surgery on May 6th. I'm very excited to get this band out, I have had nothing but problems with it. I never lost a good amount of weight with it and have been in discomfort for 5 yrs now. I do have a lot of worries that I will fail at this wls also and I'm very embarrassed that I haven't been successful at it. It does make me feel so much better reading everyone else's struggles with it and to know I'm not the only one out there. I would love to know if any of you are having your surgery around the time I am. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. While I found my surgery buddy here, you can also post in the Bariatric Pal Team MX Facebook group if you are looking for someone to buddy up with. You are still in good hands even if you have to go it alone, and they will attend to your every need while you are there, but it is nice to have someone to go through the experience with you. Hi Ms. SHerry , how are you feeling i see its been about 2 months now? Thanks for posting information up i have found this forum to be the most helpful i want to stay away from negative thinking people because reality is anything can happen anywhere. 16. Funny my friend who had the sleeve is looking to revise to RNY....years later...I wonder why?Gold Standard ...I know this because after 13 years of lapband misery...I can say my revision to bypass 2 months ago is the best thing ever!38 pounds down and...much more to go!!!
  17. Anyone have a revision from sleeve to bypass? If so how much more weight did you lose? I have lost another 30 pounds to date and my surgeon told me I should only lose about 10.... Worried I might keep losing and get myself in trouble.
  18. I would never recommend anyone have the band! I know there are some who have had success, but no one that I know personally. I have felt great since my revision and wished I had looked into having it along time ago. I'm now seeing my efforts pay off. Sent from my VS880 using the BariatricPal App
  19. I was banded in July 2005. I was never successful with the band. I might have lost 20 lbs all together with the band. I did a lot of dieting, just as I had my entire life, but I would only lose while I was eating 500 calories a day and then gain it back. At one point I was even heavier than when I started. I weighed 309 the day of my lap band. Eating bad things was fine, but as soon as I tried to eat lean Protein or vegetables it was uncomfortable going down or would get stuck. I felt like a failure once again. How was it possible to be such a loser that I couldn't even be successful at weight loss even after wl surgery. After 10 years lost with the band I decided to go to Mexico to have a revision to gastric done. The insurance that I have will not cover anything to do with obesity. The great news is after the revision the weight has been coming off steadily. I weighed 288 the day of surgery and at a little over 4 1/2 months I'm down to 227! The gastric has been better than I could have imagined. Anyone who has had the band and not had success please don't waste any more time. I spent 10 years being disgusted with myself because I didn't lose the weight that everyone bragged about, I've since seen that there are many of us who weren't successful. I eat about the same as I did with the band, but now I actually lose weight! Sent from my VS880 using the BariatricPal App Wow you sounds like me, I am waiting for insurance approval for revision, sure hope i get approval and have surgery in May:) it's been waaay too long with this band
  20. How much have you lost with the bypass if you don't mind me asking? And how long did it take?I am on process of fulfilling insurance requirements in order to get revision to RNY and I am nervous I won't lose will even with bypass. I have extremely slow metabolism, I hit a plateau 2nd week after lap band surgery, hearing that the weight loss is slower after revision makes me very nervous. I have about 120 lbs I want to lose to be at goal. Guess I need some emotional pick me up here I have lost 60 lbs since November 2015 with the revision. Best decision I have ever made! 22. Hello All, I'm looking for a little advice. I was sleeved in August of 2014. I lost about 50 lbs after surgery but then went completely stagnant. I couldn't lose another plan no matter what I did, so in effect, this felt just like another one of those diets where you feel like you are doing everything right and the weight just stops coming off. After several months of losing and gaining back the same 5 lbs, I got lazy and started gaining back. I'm currently back to my starting weight before surgery. Up until recently, I just felt like I failed the WLS fight and that the gain was all my own fault. A few months ago, I started looking into revision in Mexico. Once I spoke to the surgeon, he asked me a lot of questions that led me to believe the maybe the surgeon that performed my surgery did not do it properly. The first example is that I know a couple other people who had the same surgery with this surgeon and they had the same results (lost about 40-60 lbs, then stagnant, then gain). I also have this strange thing that happens rarely where I eat a moderate dinner (not overeating) and then go to bed 3-4 hours later and then I wake up around midnight and much of what I ate for dinner is vomited up. I've heard of overeating and then vomiting, but never 5-6 hours after you ate!! With these things, the surgeons that I have spoken to both think I'm a good candidate for revision surgery, but I'm concerned that maybe they are just trying to sell me on it. Others have told me to go back to my original surgeon, but since multiple people think that he did things incorrectly, is he maybe not the best person to go back to?? I guess I'm just looking for feedback. I know I'm a little all over the place, but I'm curious if anyone has dealt with anything like this before? I know the surgeons aren't perfect, but are there times where they cut the stomach too large or small?? or cut out the wrong section of the stomach? And don't get me wrong, I do take much of the responsibility for my sleeve failure. I definitely think that I went into the original procedure thinking that there was no way to fail and I forgot that there is a lot of work that I need to put in. Which is why I want to make sure I do things right this time and go in fully prepared. Thank you in advance for any advice.
  23. I had surgery in 1998. Gained many pounds. Pouch quite stretched. Has anyone had a revision. Live in Mass. Sent from my SM-T320 using the BariatricPal App
  24. On the other hand if you have a problem with heartburn and gerd prior to surgery make sure your surgeon knows that....I certainly understand the thought that by-pass is more drastic but you don't want to have sleeve and end up having to have it revised to by-pass because of gerd.....just talk it over with your surgeon and let them advise you based on your individual needs and condition. best of luck to you!!!
  25. @@lolarose13 From Blue Shield's policy concerning revision: Revision Bariatric Surgery Revision surgery to address perioperative or late complications of a bariatric procedure may be considered medically necessary. These include, but are not limited to: • Staple-line failure • Obstruction • Stricture • Nonabsorption resulting in hypoglycemia or malnutrition • Weight loss of 20% or more below ideal body weight • Slippage that cannot be corrected with manipulation or adjustment (see Policy Guidelines Section) Revision of a primary bariatric procedure that has failed due to dilation of the gastric pouch or dilation proximal to an adjustable gastric band (documented by upper gastrointestinal examination or endoscopy) may be considered medically necessary when both of the following are met: • If the initial procedure was successful in inducing weight loss prior to pouch dilation • The patient has been compliant with a prescribed nutrition and exercise program. So it isn't your BMI in the case of revision, it's these guidelines I listed here. The key for your surgeon will be documenting the issues you've been having with your band, and your history of adhering to postop guidelines since you got it. Good luck!
