    I'm a mess. GAINED

Welcome back! You've taken a big first step in gaining control. I agree seeing your fill doc/surgeon is a great idea. Also getting back to proper band eating. Avoiding slider foods, drinking water, not drinking with meals. All that stuff you did when you were losing the 120 lbs. You know what to do, you have done it. Your body remembers it! Come here often for support and reminders of why you had the surgery. I was here for a while right after my surgery. I took a break but now I am back. My weight has stablilized just above a normal BMI. I want to get below that. I am here often now as a reminder that I have this powerful tool and all these wonderful people to help me with attaining my goal. We can do it together! Denise

    I Need Help!!!

I'm struggling with what is too much?? I haven't ever had a fill. I was banded 12/11/06. Everyone told me that I wouldn't be able to eat a whole sandwhich or a whole piece of pizza. Which I can do both!! I haven't been gaining weight...but I do question whether or not I 'm eating too much. I'm just still getting use to eating to little. I feel like I don't eat anything, but then I feel like I'm eating I alot more than others. How do I know if I need a fill?

    I Need Help!!!

I just had my one week post op today. He said that when I need a fill is if I find I'm hungry more frequently or if I can eat more than I think I should or not losing weight. I completely agree with Jack. We have to win the mental game in order to beat the physical one that brought us to this point in our lives. Keep after everyone!! You can do it!!

    Optimistic

I am considering Lap Band surgery and going through the pre-surgery qualification process. I am optimistic about the prospect of substantial long-term weight loss. I know quite a few people that have had gastric by-pass with mixed results and significant and even fatal complications. I don't think I would ever consider that option but I like the less invasive aspects of the Lap Band. Any advise anyone could offer a "seeker" would be welcome.

    Fills

Thank you. I now have protein once a day usually in my coffee since it is chocolate flavored. I am feeling absolutely no restriction so I am definately going to call the doctor soon. I went to vegas and gained four pounds as I relied on only my restriction to help me. I am sure I will lose it as I am going back to the 30-20-30 and my own imposed restriction. Hope you are doing well. Thanks again for writing.
  7. When my surgeon asked what I would like to weigh, I told him I'd be satisfied at 160 and thrilled beyond belief at 130 (I'm 5'4 and 240 right now). He thought 130 sounded too low, but I told him I used to hover around 120 between ages 18-26 (I'm 33 now). So once I'm banded we're going to see how I look and feel, and how hard it was to get there once I reach 160. I'm not sure how he has figured that 140 exactly is your ideal weight, as there is a range but no magic number! At that weight, your BMI would be 21.9. BMI for a so-called normal weight is 18.5 to 24.9, so the correlating weight range for you according to BMI is 118 to 159. The Metropolitan Life weight chart shows a range of 123 to 163 for your height, depending on your bone structure. My take is that if you are 160, eat well, and can (and do) run five miles a day, you're probably pretty healthy. If you can ever get back to that weight and activity level, I personally wouldn't worry too much about hitting that magic 140.

    New From Haverhill, Ma

I am positive That's how it worked for me. As long as you can get 6 weigh ins in the last 3 years from a dr saying you needed to lose weight you are all set. If you have any conditions due to your weight it can help. Conditions such as: high blood pressure, gall bladder problems, breathing problems, joint problems, GERD, depression, high blood sugar, heart problems, even skin problems are all considered medical necessity. Or as I said a BMI of 40 or more without any conditions. You will also need from your PCP a letter of Medical Necessity. The necessary psych appt. , dr. clearance, you will need an EKG and bloodwork, xray.

Trying To Change My Life :)

I have been a nurse for over 10 years. I don't work in med surg, but in a clinic doing patient ed and teaching on diabetes, weight loss, etc. At least my patients have not ever looked at me like it was crazy I was talking to them about these things, but I felt it. I too have been asked when my baby is due and I tell them 4 years ago (when my last daughter was born!). Congrats to you on your degree and on making the decision!
  10. Hello Everyone! I'm Michelle but many of my friends call me Angel... Don't let the Dark Angel part scare you, I'm not satanic or anything like that, it's actually a nick name my father gave me when I was little and it just stuck... I'm 39, widowed almost 3 years now and the mother of 2 wonderful young men, 15 and 8 My husband passed away from an accident while trying to learn how to skateboard to spend more time with our boys back in March 2008 and since then, the reality of me being all they have left really hit me hard when my youngest said, "Mommy, we don't want you to die too, please" and it was cause of my weight. I've spent my whole life battling my weight, the roller coasters and emotions are too much and I just know that once I get banned, there will be no more battles, only a war that's been won once and for all. I will be starting my preliminary doctor appointments the first week of Sept and just know that my husband will be on my side guiding me through this from above. Thank you for making this forum available and allowing me to educate myself more before my actual banding comes.

    Surgery Date August 28

I was August 2nd, yesterday! I can say that all the worry and nervousness is unnecessary now that I'm on this side of it. The gas pain is all but gone already. What they say about walking it out is exactly right on. Obviously, my incisions are a little sore, but nothing bad. I think the most annoying thing for me is that the little incision the did in my navel keeps rebleeding every time I bend at the weight or sit up straight. I just it is just pressure on it. Ruined a shirt cuz I didn't realize it at first. All that to say it was not near as bad as I worked it up in my brain to be

New & With A December Date!

Hi Katrina and Welcome, I am having surgery on the 18th. The date is right around the corner, so take your time to get familiar with what your Surgeon, NUT, whomever is suggesting. Also this site has a wealth of informtation. I have also gained some insight from YouTube vids. Just prepare as can. If you have not already you may want to sample some Protein be it drinks or powder. I understand that your taste may change after the surgery, so don't go wild and crazy right off the bat. I went to Vitamin Shoppe and bought a few individual RTD's, out of th 5, I acutally liked 2, maybe 3. I also really care for Atkin's...my fav right now, so I hop after surgery, it will remain a fav. I plan to shop for things I need every other week, so whent he time comes it will already be available. You might also want to start, if you have not already begin not drinking with your meals, chew your food completely and reduce portions. All of which will be a great deal of help for post-op. Veteran Sleevers may want to chime in as well. I have been here awhile just biding my time, and it is soon to come. Much success to you.

    Start At 355#s February 2012

It is hard to believe a year ago I wieghed in excess of 355lb at 215 today. Packed in some 25lb dumbells I bought and it nearing six of those to equal the weight I've lost, and two of them felt heavy to me. Today is truly a new and great day looking forward to the future.

Does Our Age Make A Difference?

I'm coming up on 40 (eek) and yes, it's true as you get older your metabolism slows and it's more difficult to lose weight. So, hopefully it will be easier for you and you'll get to your goal sooner. Good luck!

Does Our Age Make A Difference?

Having a lapband fitted and losing weight is far more about determinination and committment rather than age ... work hard at whatever age you are and u should be successful I was 56 yrs old when i had my band fitted !

    I've NEVER blogged before!

Hello! I really don't know how this works as this is a first for me. I don't expect anyone to care about reading this so I'm gonna think of this as a diary. I have been very lax about journaling my weight loss journey so far. I'm a little ashamed of that! Today marks me at 8 weeks post-op VSG. I'm not one to weigh myself (hardly EVER) but upon scheduling my surgery date, I weighed in at 215. I then did a 10 day Pre-Op Diet and lost 7 lbs! My surgery day weight was officially 208 lbs. I now weigh 183!! That's 25 lbs in 8 weeks! Sometimes upon reading other people's posts of HUGE amounts of weightloss in only a month's time, I feel depressed. BUT, I've averaged 3 lbs. a week and if I continue at that rate, that's 150 lbs in a year! I do want to share about my decision on having weight loss surgery. My BFF and I have struggled with our weight for years, trying every kind of diet out there. A woman we work for mentioned that her neighbor(an RN) had went to Mexico & had the LapBand done because it was soooo much cheaper than in the States. This started my intensive research. I quickly found out through the internet & an awesome book that the States are WAY behind in medical procedures. I have no insurance and would have to Self-pay so Mexico was the ONLY option for me if I truly wanted to change my life. I have no doubt that every step of this journey has been a God-thing. I found a Patient Coordinator who took care of everything and had my BFF & I booked for surgery quickly. Before we knew it, our 10 day liquid diet was over (BEWARE: day 2 was a KILLER!) and we were flying to San Diego.

I too was required to go before surgery and once after. At first I HATED it. In a gourp of about 35 people, only me and one other person were banded. The rest were bypass. They were insulting and kept trying to get me to change my mind about a band. They were almost militant about it. I thought they were rude and insensitive. They kept telling me I wouldn't lose any weight with a band. I was very put out so I complained to my surgeon. His response was, "KEEP GOING and prove them wrong!!" If they don't have anything to base these opinions on, maybe they need a successful person to show them that it can be done. So I kept going. With my loss, within 7 months, they can't say that now. They don't say anything negative to me anymore, and now more people are opting for bands. I stay and answer questions etc. and it's worked out. I only go once a month as the time conflicts with my water aerobics class, but the couselor who runs it likes when I come.

Time to Put Me to the Test!

((((((Spydr))))))) You're going to do GREAT. It's going to feel wonderful when you realize you can ride any ride you want to -- I have no doubt you'll be able to. I can't wait to hear all about it on Sunday! Please come back and post. We've all been there, whether on rollercoasters, airplane seats or movie theaters. But at your current size, there's no issue. I can't wait for you to believe that too! Congratulations on your weight loss.
  20. Ugh. I know you can't get a new doctor while you're uninsured because that first appt is crazy expensive, but you really need to ditch this woman. I just had mine tested and it was a 22, and my doc refused to accept that it might be playing into my weight problem and VERY reluctantly raised my dose slightly. Come ON! Can you actually throw your thyroid off by gaining weight? Is that why there's so much attitude going on? I need a new doc too but I'm in a dinky town and he's the only one...
  21. I've had hypothyroid since I was a skinny(ish) little thing. It's just gotten worse with the weight gain. It's a lifetime thing, but nobody was nasty to me about it when I was much thinner.
  22. thanks I will be banded in august. I was nervous since everyone I talked to did not know him. How was your sugery have you lost much weight? was there much pain. did you like harper hosptial

    August 31,2011 Surgery Date!

Like I stated in my previous post, I did start the liquid diet again this week and much to my surprise I've lost about 4.5 lbs. I am very happy with that, because I haven't seen that type of weight loss in a while. I will continue on this diet for about 12 more days and see what it get's me. I need to figure out a plan for after the 12 days though.... My plan is to work my sleeve as much as I can in order to meet goal before my August 31, 2012. I realize that stalls happen, but that one (which bTW I did loose 7lbs over 8 weeks) was a bit much. I am 5 months out today and after seeing the scale move for me, I am much more motivated then I was before.

    Visit with PCP

Well, I met with my primary care doc yesterday and am very pleased. He is 100% behind my decision to follow through with this. I was concerned about the 6 months of doctor monitored dieting but he says that because I have been seeing him regularly since April for my weight, I am already 3 months into it and he will continue to see me monthly for another 3 months as he feels it will take that long to get a date. My husband is furious as the doctor for supporting me. He asked what the doctor said and when I told him, he would not speak anymore about it. Wait until he finds out I have to pay out of pocket to see the dietician today! Oh well, this is for ME and my health for my KIDS!!!
  25. Yesterday I went to my first Weight Loss Support group and I absolutley loved it. It's great to get support from fellow weight loss surgery patients and it's great to speak face to face about their experiences. Methodist Health System has several weight loss support groups in Dallas, Richardson and Mansfield. USMD has meetings in Arlington. I don't work for the hospital nor am I affiliated with them, I just thought this information was too good not to share with my fellow bandsters.
