    Friday Weigh Ins

Hey JayTee that's better than me! Down .2 of a pound  I'm 199.0. It's my own darn fault. Bad week eating wise. Feeling lots of NSV's though, shorts are definately loose around the waist. My port is also getting easier to feel...is that an NSV? Oh well, I won't be the biggest loser this week, but I lost and didn't gain!

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Couch to 3K sounds great! I have wanted to do a 5K forever and it is one of my NSV goals.
  3. Ah Chris I was thinking about you today. I KNEW you would fit on everything and I think we should all go there sometime for NSV day!!

new admission to 100 lb club

Hello all! I am a *new* member of the 100 lbs to loose club. I am currently 265 and before surgery I was 279.8. Lost 15 on the pre-op and a few more on the post -op liquid phase. When I say few I truly mean a few. Lowest I reached was 262. I have lost inches, and that is the NSV I am holding on to. Glad I have that to hold on to because truth be told, even thought I focused on having no expectations, I have found I have them all the same. I keep reminding myself this is a "life" change and it will not happen over night. My heart knows this but my head will not get on board. Speaking of head.....darn that head hunger. So, here I set, had my first fill on Monday. My band took a fill of .7 cc's. Dr. McBride began the fill with 1.5 cc's and backed it out until the liquid did not get caught up. I hope the fill settles in nicely and I will have some assistance. I am really wanting to have some help with my non existent *FULL* button. I am not trying to be a downer, *BUT* I really was bummed that I did not loose more on the 21 day liquid phase. (Self talk - inches lost...inches lost!!!) So, recap started 280 lost 15 solid lbs. Feeling like I am hanging on the the 15 and having head hunger issues. I am newly banded as of 4/24/09. I am keeping the faith that this will work for me. Anyone else relate to where I am?
  5. Wow! That's a great NSV! I have the worst batwing arms in the entire universe, so it will be NEVER before I wear a tank top! I'm hoping to have plastic surgery done... sometime! I know the scars from the arm lift are pretty ugly, but anything will be better than what I have now! I could easily wear a 18 blouse if my arms were not so bad. I wear an 18 pants, but a 2x shirt. The extra skin can be so discouraging!

    I'm here to help...

Aww....nice to be missed, Long! Came home from lake this morning. Not sure if I will go back up on Wed or Thurs. Have a lot to do here at home this week and volunteer job all day tomorrow. NSV!!!!!!!! You know those tracks on patio doors????? I am cleaning those today and don't need help to get up from the floor. I can sit crossed-legged on the floor now and get up without using my arms. Pretty good for an old lady!!!!!!!!!
  7. I know someday I will get PS, but I have another 4 1/2 years until I have my lapband surgery paid off so I will have to wait until then unless something else happens. Depressing to know that it will be 5 years before I can get this extra skin taken care of and my breast will keep sagging until then too. I want the headlights back on bright instead of pointing to my toes. I think I would even be happy with my body now if I could have PS. I think I would be able to fit into a size 10 then (I am wearing a size 12 now) and I never even thought about wearing a size smaller than that. I remember wanting to wear a size 16 and couldn't imagine fitting into a size 14. (Don't get me wrong I would rather have extra skin than 100 xtra pounds!!!!) I am getting to the point where I can tell a difference in my shoulders and face. I look in the mirror now and think, "Wow! Is that me?" I think my double chin has practiaclly dissapeared and I have cheek bones. I even wore a tank top when I went golfing with my hubby yesterday!!! That is a NSV! :w00t: While lying in bed last night on my side my hubby started to "caress" (for lack of a better word) my hip bone. Not like when I started to feel my hip bone when I tried, but it is really THERE! I was kind of complaining about being fat last month and DH tapped my rib cage. I told him that hurt and I rubbed the spot and he said, 'That's because I hit bone, not soft stuff." It kind of surprised me that he was right. Another NSV.....I like the way I look in my swimsuit. Now don't get me wrong, I don't have a two piece or anything. It is a solid one piece with a little skirt, but I feel good in it! Who would have ever thought. This week end has been a bad one for me. I am dealing with a lot with my daughter and I used food. I will be okay. Weekends are the hardest for me. I will be back on track starting now and the scale will keep moving. 10. I was updating my blog tonight and went back to my pre-op journal to see how it relates to my experience and how I am doing. One of the best things in there was this Plan for Success that I wrote out. Here it is, verbatim, with my comments from today following each item. I thought it would be interesting for us all to share ideas on what things we can do to help ourselves to succeed! Add anything you want to this string! Plan for Success: In reading one of my "band" books tonight, I came across an article that said that having a game plan can really improve my chances for success. I've been thinking of a few things I can do, but hadn't really formalized a plan. So, here goes: THINGS I WILL DO TO HELP MYSELF SUCCEED: - Tell family and friends about the surgery so that I will have a support network (and won't feel weird when eating with them) - (DONE!) - Commit to staying exactly on my pre-op Clear liquids diet - (DONE!) - Commit to the post-op plan of 2 weeks full liquids, then 2 weeks of soft foods - (DONE!) - Think of ways to Celebrate my birthday with friends where eating won't be an issue (maybe a girl's day at Ohm?) - (DONE! Had a great time at Ohm Spa, by the way!) - Hire a personal trainer as of 11/08/08 (I didn't do this on schedule, but I did hire the trainer and recommitted to exercising in a serious way . . see bruise photo from previous post!) - Keep good, correct foods in the house. (DONE!) - Avoid alcohol to the extent possible. (I could be better about this to be perfectly honest. . is just such a big part of my social life that it's hard to really avoid, plus I love a nice glass of wine) - Commit to taking SMALL bites and chewing until food is dissolved (DONE! I'm not perfect, but I do a pretty good job at this) - Commit to small sips (Honestly, this hasn't been all that necessary) - Commit to avoiding calorie-filled beverages (DONE! Well, except for wine!) - Journal/blog regularly and chronicle your success -- AND admit it if you mess up (DONE! And is an on-going part of my plan!) - Look for NSVs if/when your weight plateaus (I'm doing this!) - Try out the support group at NYU (I haven't done this, but I feel like LBT and the people who I know through my blog do what I would have hoped a support group to do) - Be proactive about your care -- don't wait so long for a fill that you gain weight. (DONE!) - Measure yourself periodically and write down your measurements (DONE!) - Know that this is not going to be easy, but that this will be worth while. And, know that this WILL be easier than staying on a diet on your own for a whole year, then maintaining your weight long-term. (So true -- and I do fully know that.) - Try to notice NSVs (like less foot and back pain) as they occur (DONE!) - Make mini-goals for yourself, e.g. 10 lb goals, and feel free to reward yourself with facials, massages, nice mani/pedis, etc. (Oh believe me. . DONE!) - Go through your closet and "size" it so that you won't miss wearing cute things that you like on the way to goal (DONE!) - Don't read too much about negative/failure stories on the lap band chat rooms. (DONE! I do read some of those stories, but I don't get sucked in, which accomplishes my fundamental objective.) - When you start going to restaurants again, do trial runs with your friends who know about the surgery (plus, will be fun). (DONE!) - Don't get disproportionately upset if any of your good friends don't understand, say the wrong thing, etc. They love you, and no one is perfect. (Honestly, my friends have been pretty freaking amazing. I'm very lucky in that way.) - Focus on your other hobbies and interests (Get new letterpress projects, enjoy the Van Gogh course at MOMA) - (DONE! Unfortunately, the Van Gogh course was totally sold out, so I never did get to take it, but I've been spending more time on my hobbies, which is always very enjoyable). I hope that was helpful
  11. It is awesome to hear how well everyone is doing! This is a great thread! These are my NSV's: *Shoes are too big (had to go shoe shopping) *None of my previous clothes, coats, undies fit - have given bags & bags to Salvation Army, etc. (have gone clothing shopping numerous times) *No longer feeling like a sausage while riding on the plane! YEAH.. *Eye glasses no longer worked for me (the progressive lens moved).. my face/neck are way much smaller (had to get new glasses). *No longer sleeping with CPAP & am getting a full nights sleep! YEAH! *Can walk/run on the treadmill for a much longer length of time (although I need to get on much more) *I purposely find reasons to take the stairs at work several times per day. I just feel sooooo much better about myself!!

Congratulations Florida Pete on your decision to go back to school. You'll love it. I completed my bachelors degree a couple years ago and am looking at going back for a Masters. On the NSV side, I recently wore a skirt to work. I'd purchase the skirt to wear at Easter and thought I'd better get another wearing or two of the skirt before it got too big. I haven't worn a skirt in sooooo many years. Anyway, I received a number of compliments from both men and women. This was a great motivator for me. Best wishes to everyone on our journeys to healthier selves.

    Friday Morning Weigh-in May 29th

I gained this week but I have a thing I don't change my ticker because then next week I would count it as a loss and it wouldn't technically be but I went from 221 to 223 this morning. I was weighing 219 until yesterday morning when it jumped but I noticed that since Wednesday evening my left leg has been swollen so I don't know why I am holding on to that Water but I am. I had an NSV today! I ran 1 mile in 12 minutes. That is the fastest mile I think I have EVER run (even when I was a child because as a child I couldn't make it a whole mile). I am trying to get to 10 but 12 is better than 14 last week! I run outside so I don't have a treadmill to push me. Have a blessed weekend!

    Non-Scale Victories Thread

I am not sure how much this is a weight loss NSV but still an NSV for me. Yesterday I finally got up enough courage to enroll back in college to get my bachelors degree. I have talked about doing it for years much the same as losing weight. Finally I have taken the plug and am moving forward and it's no longer just talk. So starting as soon as a few weeks from now I will be taking classes to further myself educationally and professionally. Now for a weight loss NSV that I have recently experienced is that I do want to get out and power walk in the mornings. I like working up a sweat and burning off those calories. I can't jog yet but I will get there. I am still just to over weight and to much of my body moves when I try to jog but I will get there. For now I am happy that it feels great to get out for the power walk and that I actually do enjoy working up that sweat. Congrat to Stephanie and Ann on your recent NSV's! I think these are the ones that really count deep inside us. They show to us that we are losing weight not just by the number but by how these make us feel. Good going girls and keep up the great work! Our goals ARE obtainable!!!

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Karla -FYI CAKE can act like bread sometimes - and as tight as you are it may - Have you called for an appoint to get some taken out... It's NOT SUPPOSE TO HURT TO EAT... Have you tried drinking something hot before you try to eat and yes protein bars are just like candy bars - just as many calories as a candy bar - only diff is that they have protein.. Karri turned me on to the pure protein bars - They are very good especially when you keep them in the fridge.. There is nothing to be embarrassed about 213 - heck we all were there at one time... You are 40 lbs lighter than 2 months ago and that's what matters - You are on your way girl.. Congrats on the NSV by not eating the ice cream... Congrats on your gym time - I guess doing weights I could maybe do a little longer at the gym - but really and hour and a half is my max time there... Did legs tonite - going in the morning again for another 2.5 miles and then tomorrow nite for arms (make up from monday we didn't do our traing as the gym closed early) Congrats on Member of the Month !!!! That's Great :crying: Ya I know you like a little competition :0) Ya you will win in the losing more - cuz I really don't think I want to get any lower than 135 - and I was able to maintain 138 until after easter - since then - it's been 139 - 140 - 141 I want 138 !!! I don't want 143... I am having flounder tonite - never had it before but it looks good - need to go ck out tv food network to see how I am suppose to cook it.. Phyl - Steph - Kari - Denise - Candice - are you all in on our 5 lbs in 2 weeks...

    Cookies!!

I hate to say it, but I must confess...I ate Cookies today. I had not cheated at all before this. I ate two regular sized cookies from Mrs. Field's. A super chocolatey one and a chewy pecan one. I feel so bad for it. Boo me!:crying: However I did have an NSV today, I bought a 1x cardigan from Macy's instead of my old 3x. Yay me! :tongue2:Thanks for listening guys.

    Non Scale Victories!

First NSV this weekend...FINALLY (35 pounds and no one had noticed!). My next door neighbor whom I haven't seen this winter noticed as we were out working in the yard (called me skinny...not!). Details if you want them from my blog HERE.
  20. Hi Sarah! I was just thinking of you today and wondering how you are doing! Someone asked me what an NSV was and I gave your 'pants falling down' example...best NSV I ever heard!

It's weird going from having restriction right after surgery to having absolutely none now. I've gotten used to just eating like I used to and then along came the bagel! You're right, I need to remember that even with 0 fill it's still a funnel and I need to slow down! I can't wait for a few fills and to have that lovely restriction again.

Yep, my doc allows soda and any carbonation, I think it's after 6 mo. I'm not a pop drinker though, so it wasn't that important to me.

How are you doing? Are you having good restriction or still need more fills? How's the exercise part going...I'm finding that the hardest part for me...just trying to get motivated! Any more NSV's? -BG

Slow & steady, but I want it RIGHT NOW!

Thanks everyone for your responses and for letting me vent. I am very proud of the 33 lbs. I just needed to share my thoughts. I had just got done posting about an NSV. Then I went on Facebook and saw pictures from a week ago. I guess when I saw the pictures this morning I expected to notice a difference. But unfortunately they had the opposite effect. It really deflated me in a matter of minutes I left the positive side and jumped over to negative. But the very positive thing is that I didn't go eat, I came here and shared my feelings. For that I'm patting myself on the back. Thanks again for the support, I'm so glad to have this forum to come to receive and give support.

    5/26/09 Band Firsts

BG,I know what PBing is but I can't figure out is NSV!! I had my first fill last Fri. I feel no restriction, if anything I am eating more! I keep reading the blogs and they are reassuring to me that sometimes you don't feel restriction right away. I look forward to your first fill and to hear in your cleaver blog writings. Barbara

    Non Scale Victories!

My latest NSV was a funny surprise. I went to put on some shorts after work the other day. It had been several weeks since I had put on this particular pair of shorts. I knew they would be big, but I was just going to be home so I figured it didn't matter. I put them on and buttoned them up. I took two steps and they literally fell right off:w00t::smile:. My wife looked at me laughing and said " I guess those go onto the don't fit pile now". The pile of don't fit clothes is much larger than the do fit pile now.

    Non Scale Victories!

Another NSV for me- My husband said to me at least 5 times on Saturday/Sunday "Your butt is getting smaller". I smiled and said thanks. Yesterday he says "Seriously, your butt is really shrinking. Have you checked your weight?". I told him that I've lost 33lbs since my highest weight in 1/09. He smiled the biggest grin and gave me a kiss. Double bonus NSV & kiss
