    Protein!

Every protein shake I have tried tastes terrible to me. I am almost a week out. Anyone have any good suggestions? I have been eating cottage cheese, Greek yogurt and soups that are all liquified down, but really struggling to get my proteins and water in. My mid-back aches and I just don't feel hungry. I am starting to feel a little weak. I have only urinated twice today. Anyone have any good advice?
  3. Hello All, I have been stalking you all since November and am finally ready to actively join this wonderful group! Your stories are so inspirational and I can't wait to start posting my own. I won't go into a long drawn out story of my struggles with weight because from here on out I only want to look forward! I started my two week pre-op diet on August 7th and am scheduled for surgery on August 21st. It has been a really rocky road with lots of hoops and let downs since November but I am finally letting myself believe this is really going to happen for me. I started the summer at 257 and was not given a date until I got back down to 243 which was what I weighed in November. Hoping to get to the low 230's by the big day! I WANT MY LIFE BACK! I have been hiding behind my weight for so long that a lot of people in my life don't even know the real ME! I am so excited what this surgery is going to do for me but also my relationships with my husband and beautiful children. They deserve to have a happy wife and mommy and I have not been for many years!!!!!!! I will keep you all posted and thanks for letting me join!!!!!!!! ±±±
  4. Beautiful Day - I printed out everything the surgery coordinator sent me and started a 3 ring binder. I'm self-pay and the consent forms and pay forms and all the forms that needed my hand-written response or signature or whatever, added up to 20 pages worth. I sat down for a dedicated hour and got the paperwork done and the various coordinators have said that I can get all the tests and face-to-face meetings taken care of the day before surgery. I will stay at the Kabuki the night before surgery and my Mother will stay there the night of. The paperwork suggested that anyone having surgery might want to go on a liquid diet in the week prior to surgery but there was no directive from Dr. J telling me to do so. I am in Iraq right now and I had the Dr. consult and psych eval by phone. I will pre-reg over the phone and have the nurse consult over the phone. The day before surgery I will meet with the nut., Dr. J., and have my blood ekg etc.
  5. Well, Tomorrow is my surgery date. Down 17 lbs. on 2 week pre-op diet. I'm unusually calm about it. Hoping all goes well, the journey begins...
  6. Two thumbs pointing at me! That's who!! Back in my room ( which is a beautiful two room suite actually) slept and then got up and have been walking and sitting in a chair since about 3. Sipping very slow and ice chips are da' bomb! So far so good. Walking laps in my new pretty pink robe. Figure if I'm gonna walk around belching and farting, may as well look like a lady doing it! Sho far staying ahead of the pain. In discomfort but very manageable so far! Disclaimer: not responsible for loopy spelling. Still on drugs.:-)

2 weeks after surgery. 20lbs lost!

20lbs in 2 weeks in good, does this include the weight lost before surgery from the shakes?
  8. This is not an original recipe, but when you get to have meat or even puree, this might work for you... It'll easily feed 6 people. 60 if they are all sleeved HAHAHA cut up a 3 lb cut of pork (I use pork loin because its leaner) rub with 1 Tbspn of Hawaiian Red Sea Salt (you can find this at places like Trader Joes...and if not, Kosher Salt makes a decent substitute) Rub with abt 1 Tbspn of liquid Smoke (I like the smokey flavor, so usually double that amount for us) 1/2 Cup Water Put it all in a crock-pot and cook on high for about 8-10 hours. Then using 2 big forks, shred the pork and let it rest in the juices. I usually serve this over Trader Joes Brown Jasmine Rice with some sauteed cabbage (and if I'm lazy, I buy a bag of coleslaw shreds to saute and use that!). I made this for my family this week and ended up really grooving on the pulled pork. I shredded it very finely for myself and then chewed well. YUM!

    Steristrips

I'm 6 weeks out and my belly button incision is still painful at times. It looked the worst right after surgery and I didn't take the bandage off of that one til about 3 weeks after surgery because it was too sensitive until then.
  11. I have a few questions. I was an original sleeve patient in November of 2011. I had a severe stricture that was finally corrected with a bypass in August of 2012. I had lost 110 pounds. Scale finally kinda quit moving but ok with that I guess. I was at an ideal weight and had lost all "my girls"! LOL. My sweet husband agreed and paid for me to have a breast augumentation Thursday of last week. The scale gained almost 10 pounds. I know those silicone implants did not weigh 10 pounds. Help! What happened? I haven't felt real well or ate a whole lot since that surgery Thursday. Any idea where that weight came from ? How to get rid of it? I can't exercise for a week or so. Anyone else experienced this ? Help I'm struggling.

When I moved 3 years ago I gave away all my thin clothes and everything in between. Most of the stuff I have now is from when I was 100 heavier. I work from home so I do'nt have to dress for work. Occationally I get desprate and buy a new shirt. I did go to the mall the other day to try on some things. I have been at a plateau for a while and wanted to see if I had lost any inches (since all my clothes are way to big I would never notice). I had gone done a size in pants and perhaps one on the top.

    Protein Shakes?

You just have to watch your carbs with Protein shakes. I have seen some pretty descents ones that like 30+ grams of protein and only 5 grams of carbs. After the 2 weeks of semi-liquid and week after surgery (sleeve on 09/11) I would rather try to chew my protein in the form of chicken or turkey than drink it but I still have a shake in the afternoons to make sure I am getting the minerals and vitimans.

    7 months out

What a great story. I just had my surgery may 22 and I have had some intense pain 3 days after. Now on my 8th day its getting better. You have inspired me. Thanks.
  16. I don't know about all of you (banded recently) but I am SO READY to chew again. LOL!! I have been on liquids for 9 days and would give anything for a scrambled egg or cottage cheese!! I have my two week follow up appt next Tuesday and am hopeful she will tell me I can start "mushies". Hope you are all hanging in there
  17. I had my op 3 weeks ago today, for the first week and a half I had no nausea etc, but since the middle of last week I have felt sick all the time. I started a mushy food on Wednesday and thought this May cure it but it hasn't. Is it normal to feel like this?
  18. Stuffed peppers w ground beef & cauliflower You could use this filling for stuffed cabbage too, the cauliflower replaces the rice normally used. 2 medium red, green, or yellow peppers cut in half lengthwise, seeds removed 1 lb ground beef1 1/2 cups cauliflower 1 clove fresh garlic 1/4 yellow onion - diced 1 large can chopped whole peeled tomatoes 2-3 cups beef broth In skillet, brown ground beef. While that is cooking, steam cauliflower just until it breaks up easily. Chop onion, garlic, set aside.Finely chop or process cauliflower in food processor, set aside. Drain ground beef when it is cooked thoroughly, Add onion/garlic mixture and the seasonings and brown them a little with the meat Add the cauliflower, simmer a few minutes on low. In large casserole with lid place peppers and fill with meat mixture. (or use a ceramic or glass pan and cover with parchment paper & foil on top)*Mix broth with remaining peeled/diced tomatoes, pour over peppers. Cover and bake for about an hour on 375 degrees. Serve hot with salad on the side and a cool glass of Water. From: http://lark.cc.ukans.../~lash/recipes/ *note - always use care when cooking acidic foods (peppers, tomatoes) covered with foil. do not let the foil touch the food. Put a layer of parchment between the foods and the foil to prevent the aluminum from dissolving into the food.

    Gastric Bypass recovery

I only took 2 weeks off. I started back this week and it wasn't bad. Although when I get home, all I can do is fall asleep! Lol!
  20. I went back to school exactly one week after. It was hard, I was very tired and sitting was uncomfortable. I am currently 1.5 weeks out and feel pretty good, I am back to my daily activities. It depends on your pain tolerance and any complications that occurred. I could have done well with 2 full weeks off and been fine. I was clawing the walls during the one week but was still pretty tired after normal tasks like going to the bathroom. My side stitch is still tight so I have to be careful because it can get pretty sore with too much movement.
  21. Hi All, I don't remember who posted her struggle with constipation, but I wanted to share what helped me. My surgery was 3 days ago. I was able to stop the pain med less than 48 hrs later. However the constipation and pain that went with it was real yesterday morning. I walked and walked and breathed through the pain. I called my doctors office after about 3 hours. Their advice was glycerine suppositories. I have never used anything like that, but I was desperate! Ya know, it worked in about 15 minutes! Sorry if this is TMI but I think it might help someone else. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

    16 days out stall

It's called the 2 week stall. I'm going through it as well. From what I've read, it's a common thing.
  23. It went really well. He was awesome! I am kinda a sarcastic jokester, and he was too so it was perfect! He told me all the pro's and con's, and asked if I wanted the sleeve (insurance won't cover it, so thats a no). Then he told me to schedule my surgery! He told me he was extremely confident that I would be at my goal weight within a year if I stay motivated with my diet and exercise. He thought it was funny that my children (3 & 5), exercise with me. They even keep me on track when I don't want to do it! He told me I should have my surgery now, and not wait until February, so I was all on board, but when I called the surgery scheduler, she said that he doesnt know how scheduling works, and she jokingly said that he just shows up, and doesn't know how it works behind the scenes! So February it is. Once my insurance gets accepted they are going to call me to schedule!!! YAY!
  24. I was banded 3 years ago this month. The first year the weight just flew off me. I will say i was very strict with myself and followed every rule to a T. I lost over a 100lbs the first year. My mindset was this, i willingly had an elective surgery that i was fortunate enough to have had insurance pay for, i'll be damned if i was gonna screw it up. I kept having small frequent fills in order to keep feeling a certain level of restriction. I am filled to 9.2 in the large VG band. I did have one temporary set back. I needed port replacement, i struggled to maintain my loss during that time when we were trying to figure out where my fluid was going. Luckily i did maintain my loss but it was pure hell without restriction. I joined a gym when i got to the point where i was comfy enough to exercise with others. I go 4-5 times a week. I will be perfectly honest and say i still have food issues and most likely always will, i am a total food addict. That is why i MUST keep myself super restricted so that it is impossible for me to overindulge. I am still able to eat anything i want but i am only able to eat a very small amount. Thats what works for me.
