April 17, 2019 surgery date!! Whoohooo
  2. Thank you for the info. I figured that there are a lot more success stories out there.. that helps me make a more informed decision. Sounds like you have done wonderful. I'm thinking about the liposuction because I have the Apple shape. All my weight is in my middle and bat wing arms. My legs and thighs are fine. You do lose 10 to 12# with liposuction so I figured I might be able to lose the other 30 on my own. Sent from my SM-J727V using BariatricPal mobile app

    The Gym...

I started slow - 10 minutes on the treadmill, 5 minutes on the bike and elliptical. This was in early February. I am now in the gym 6 days a week. 4 days pure cardio (40 mins on the treadmill; 20 mins bike; 10-15 mins on the elliptical). 3 days cardio/weights (30 minds cardio/circuit at Planet Fitness). The stress release is intense and seeing the pounds and inches melt away is amazing.

    Supplements and such

Wow wish I had been told that I could choose to get the RNY but my surgeon said sleeve was best for me. [emoji174]He knew that i already had severe reflux and I had no clue it could get worse. But from taking 2 pills a day to now 10 pills (4 different medications) a day just for the GERD. I am absolutely miserable and the meds are not working properly now. So I am going through the process of getting approved by the insurance company to get the revision done. How long did it take you to get approval for your surgery? My sleeve surgery approval only took 2 months as I have 2 insurance companies. I am now also on zofran for nausea every day mine has gotten so much worse than it was. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I keep seeing you can have sugar

I had a sweet tooth and that is one of the reasons why I had to have the surgery. My sweet tooth led eventually over time to too much weight gain that then that lead to sugar diabetes. Diabetes is a terrible condition. I watched the effect of diabetes on my mother. She developed wounds on her feet. These were not heal because of diabetes. For 10 years before her death, she had to exercise great care to prevent her wounds from becoming infected. Many people with diabetes have their feet amputated. So sugar in a way is a journey down a deep dark death spiral. After my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I lost the weight and I maintained the weight loss and part of the reason why I maintained that loss was because I avoid sugar (in all its many forms) like the plague. I rely on artificial sweeteners and no calorie natural sweeteners. So I guess my question to you is "Have you tried no or low calorie natural sweeteners such as Stevia?"
  10. I am losing fairly slow as well. I just try to remind myself the doctor said I am still right where I should be, and focus on the non scale victories. The last time I went in for a visit, I found out I have lost 10 inches around my waist since surgery! I know it is hard, but just try to embrace the little things. Every little bit counts. <3
  11. Anytime you lose a large amount of weight in a short period of time you stand a chance of getting gallstones. i lost eighty pounds in four months and I started to get unbelievable chest pains that would not stop but it was when I started getting nausea pretty bad that I went to the E/R, long story short xray found 10 stones in my gall bladder. The operation started out laparoscopic but had to be converted to open when he found my gall bladder chronic and necrotic.

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

#19 Go for a walk: Did a shortened version of my daily walk as it started to rain. I normally do about 5km (which equates to roughly an hour), but I was only out for about 20 minutes until I had to turn back cuz of rain. B-Side: Weekend Plans Tonite went out for dinner and a movie with Mr & the Kid; tomorrow night is Easter Dinner at our place for my side of the family (which means a busy cooking and cleaning afternoon); Sunday is an Easter Lunch at Mr.'s parents' place for his side of the family; and Monday, since the Kid is off school, planing to go shopping with her at a shoe warehouse sale at the convention centre near the airport (yay, shoes!).
  13. I had VSG 3/25/19. I lost 15 pounds in first couple of weeks but not an ounce since. I am getting over 60g of protein, drinking my water and walking. Getting frustrated. Is this common?
  14. Hi all I am scheduled for May 3rd in Mexico. Anyone else gearing up for surgery?

    Anyone from U.K. here?

My family are all in Barnstaple now, but my sister used to live in Little Torrington years ago I'm originally from London. No, the sleeve was a disaster for me from the start. I was one of those rare creatures who get a leak... Had to stay in hospital for 3 months and had multiple surgeries to fix it. Then because of the surgeries my sleeve stretched out. I put on 25 pounds, which I've now lost (plus another 10) and bob's yer uncle, all is well. How was it having surgery in the UK? Was it on the NHS?

    Bypass v’s Sleeve..... help!

I had the sleeve Sept '17 and woke up from the surgery starving - I was just hungry the whole time with it. Had Bypass surgery Feb '19 and I have not felt hungry. I opted for the sleeve initially because I was scared of the finality of the RNY, but to be honest there was no need to be scared. I don't feel that different except that my hunger has lessened and I have a bit more restriction.
  17. I had the lap band for almost 10 years and it quit working the last 4 years with big problems. The tubing was rubbing the vagus nerve and eventually led to A-flutter. Now I'm pursuing the sleeve. I am struggling to not gain all of the weight. I'm using a Fitbit and My Fitness Pal. I have put on a lot of weight, and all I want is the freedom of movement back. Interested in hearing any feedback.

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

    18. I didn't buy coffee for a stranger but I did give my building super a Starbucks gift card because she wouldn't let me tip her for helping the movers with getting my new sofa in the building. 19. Went for a run and then a walk before the rain. I need to attempt the 65-second plank again. This is the first time I couldn't stay in position the whole time. B Side: I have my sketch writing class and I'm going to a comedy show with some of my classmates. I'll fit in a run or trip to the gym on Sunday.

From Denial to Appeal to Approval

I am now in process of getting approved for the RYN due to the reflux disease that I have had for 30 years it's way worse than it was before the sleeve 2 plus years ago. Now taking 10 pills a day just for the reflux and the meds are not working properly at all. I'm either totally nauseous or vomiting all the time. Having lots of tests to get data for insurance company to backup the doctor saying it is necessary for me to do this. I did sleeve surgery going by the surgeon advice and wasn't told that I had the option. Anyway my sleeve surgery went fine but the hernia repair is now back as well. Can you tell me how long it took to get approval?? Good luck to you. Allie in SC Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Bypass v’s Sleeve..... help!

Hey, I had the sleeve 2016,no complications from the surgery or recovery process. But my Reflux disease has gotten much worse because of it.My gastrointestinal doctor says I should of had the complete bypass. So my bariatric surgeon now agrees as instead of taking 2 pills a day for reflux disease I am now taking 10 pills a day. Am currently waiting for approval from insurance company to get the big surgery. Hopefully you are doing great. Good luck with your journey. Allie Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Feeling full or gassy?!

Hey rosekay! I actually had my VSG on April 17, 2019, so I’m still on my clear liquids. Anyways, I have the exact same feeling after I drink anything. Whether I take the tiniest of sips or just a normal little sip, hot or cold, i always get some terrible gas pains after a couple sips. I’ve read a few things that it’s normal for up to a week, and that it’s just your new stomach adjusting still. But I too have the same gas, stuck in my stomach feeling.
  22. I hit 100 pound loss this week! Whoop! HW 235 SW 227 CW 134 Sleeved 10/12/17 Bypassed 03/04/19 (severe gerd, esophageal restriction) Weight loss has slowed despite being bypassed. I'm actually trying to maintain right now. My personal goal was 140. I think since the end of feb to my 6 week on Monday I've lost 10 lbs.
  23. I had my gastric sleeve done on April 16, 2019. I’m currently in my full liquids stage. When I drink water or eat jello or just consume anything within the rules so to say, I can’t tell if my stomach hurts because I’m full or gassy. I’ve been burping a lot after surgery but past two days I have been having a lot of gas (TMI, sorry). Anyone feel the same?

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Thanks SO MUCH guys for the kind comments. It truly does mean the world. Lol, I dunno why people aren’t saying anything. I think it just goes to show how many of us are just oblivious to our surroundings. Besides, all of the techs I work with are in their 20’s, so I think many times they see me as that “older” person and it doesn’t register that at this age transformations can happen. Could be some of my patients don’t want to say anything out of fear of something health wise might be going on. Many people know I battled cancer 10 years ago so there’s that. Anna!! That salad looks AMAZING. All I had time for for lunch was some cottage cheese and a handful of almonds. BOOOOOOOORING.
