I had got a band in 2005. I lost 85lbs the first year and then started getting horrible reflux. I couldn't sleep at all. They took most of the fluid out which helped greatly but not with weight loss. I yoyo dieted for eight years and then finally did a revision to sleeve at the end of last April. This was the best thing I ever did! Night and day from that horrible band. I did get some heartburn in the earlier months. But no reflux. The heartburn was easily controlled with OTC meds and now seems to have past. Good luck!

Just curious....

If this is your plan, I would strongly suggest you consider another form of WLS. The lapband is a "crutch", or "tool" as many will say, without which one is merely dieting (and hungry, frustrated and sad). Many who have had bands removed will testify to regaining the weight lost with the band (plus additional pounds, which is similar to what happens when a non-surgical dieter stops dieting). Most former bandsters on this platform post that when they had their bands removed, they went on to do a revision surgery such as bypass, sleeve or RnY. So based on that, if would suggest that if you plan to get banded, and then have the band removed, you should also include in your plan a budget for revision surgery, or an acceptance for the rebound weight gain. I've never read about a bandster who kept their weight off after band removal. -
I have the realize band for 4 years I haven't lost much just 30 pounds back and fourth my weight was 210 to begin with but do to severe upset stomach and gerd my doctor suggested I revise to sleeve. I wanted to remove the band and try on my own because I didn't want to go through all that again. I have vitamin difficencys but I take vitamins on and off. I was approved for revision however upon reading the threads I see that sleevers get acid reflex. I am scared that I will have acid reflex that can't be reversed and that Sometimes it doesn't help with meds. But there are a few people who wrote that they don't have gerd anymore after the surgery. Sometimes now I get sore throat from reflex and my doctor has removed all the fluid. Can you please give me advise my surgery is scheduled for the 14th of April? I am Almost thinking to just remove the band and not revise since its permanent I'm afraid. I have 50-60 pounds to loose. Any feed back is appreciated! Thank you

Who else got sleeved on the 28th of march?
Violetsrblue replied to elaina831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a revision done on the 29th. From band to sleeve. So far I can tolerate almost anything. Except today I tried some watered down hummus and felt terribly sick after. That was the 1st real time I've had any nausea, or thought I might throw up. I'm terrified of vomitting, and rupturing a suture. I'm still struggling to get all my Water in. But so far, I've had blended Beans, oatmeal, avocado w/ plain Greek yogurt, and Protein shakes. Everything is blended super fine. Maybe the hummus was too thick still, or too heavy. Activity wise, I can walk around stores and the mall, but have to take it very slow, or I'll feel faint. I have a lot of head hunger, and feel like I need to chew things. Luckily, I haven't had much gas pains, walking seems to help. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App -
I had revision to sleeve on the 30th as well! One night in the hospital and they took my drain out before I left. My surgeon said that is his preference and I was ok with that. As for the removal it didn't hurt necessarily but did surprise me. Felt it come out and it was longer than I realized. After a sharp intake of breath, due to the foreign feeling, I was fine. Hope your removal goes well! From-amyjo316

An end to pain and suffering
susancwalker2008 replied to babykins529's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just found out this week that my issue is very similar. My tubing has been wrapped behind my spleen and at the same time irritating my diaphragm. I am considering a revision when they remove the band. My question is, due to all the medical problems and testing and imaging I have done, is it easier to deal with insurance? I just want to be done with all of the pain. -
ENDOSCOPIC GASTRIC SLEEVE.
Kindle replied to 2Anne's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No, it's not a sleeve, nothing is removed. From my understanding it's kind of like a whole bunch of mini plications from the inside. A few things bother me about the procedure that would make me not want to choose it for myself..... 1) it's marketed for people wanting to lose 20-50 pounds. I had way more than that to lose 2) it doesn't even come close to providing the restriction that VSG or bypass does. Or even as much as the lapband did for those of you looking at revision. 3) it leaves a whole bunch of folds in your stomach held together with anchoring devices. Who's to say all those little anchors won't erode through your stomach just like the lapband has done. This potentially leaves the patient susceptible to ulceration and even perforation several years down the line. 4) it just hasn't been around long enough to know all of its results, both good and bad. This is the main reason I went with the sleeve. They've been doing gastrectomies for over 100 years, with dozens (if not hundreds) of followup studies, so there weren't going to be any "surprises" by choosing VSG. -
ENDOSCOPIC GASTRIC SLEEVE.

This looks very promising as another WLS- type option. It appears it is for low bmi. I'm wondering more about this if I ever have to revise from my band. It is nice to think there may be less invasive and cheaper options! I will keep investigating. -
Revision from Band - Surgeon wants sleeve, I want bypass!
marimar66 replied to Taunter's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I agree, after spending 11 years with a worthless band I would have never revised to the sleeve. In less than 5 months I have had more success with gastric bypass than I did with all the years with the band. I just get happier everyday that I had it done. ENDOSCOPIC GASTRIC SLEEVE.
Miss Mac replied to 2Anne's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had never heard of it, so I looked it up. Apparently, it is a fairly new procedure that has only been performed on humans for about a year and a half. However, I am quite intrigued by the concept and the fact that it can be done without incisions and can be revised more than once, if needed. I am 64 now, and actually, if that had been one of my options when I had my sleeve in 2013, I would have gotten the endoscopic procedure. Totally new concept! -
I have Aetna and have had no problem. I had the lapband in 2016. I had it removed in 2014. I had the sleeve in 2014. And in January 2016 just had a revision on my sleeve. I only did the 6 months in 2010 with the lapband. My doctor is in New Jersey. Once my paperwork was submitted for each surgery I got my response within 24 hours. And no extra money out of pocket. Just my co-pays.

Sleeve to DS Insurance question
Peggy D replied to Samantha Hunt's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I had my sleeve done in August, 2013, & then had a revision of the sleeve & conversion to a single-anastomosis duodenal switch December 29, 2015, all covered by Aetna. I still had the co-morbidities I did before the first sleeve, some improved, some not, & my BMI was just over 35 at the time of my revision consult. I believe my surgeon also used the argument that my highest recorded BMI was just over 50 before the first sleeve. -
I am in ohio and I have Aetna as well. I am doing a band to Sleeve revision because of complications. When I met with the Nutritionist I asked her if she knew how Aetna was. Her exact words were, "they are difficult at best" I am a month into the 3 month required supervised weight loss. I don't have to actually loose any weight I just can't gain an ounce. I am really nervous about being denied. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

Who else got sleeved on the 28th of march?
Pattysue replied to elaina831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also got a sleeve on Mon. the 28th. They did a revision on me from the band to the sleeve. I think I'm doing ok, I am also having trouble getting enough liquids in. I feel full so easily. Also, do you know if it is normal to feel chilled all the time unless I have a ton of blankets on. My incisions are not infected, they seem fine, I know that is a symptom of infection. I'm sore also, but nothing I can't tolerate. I can't bend over and pick up anything from the floor and I hate sleeping on my back, but it is too uncomfortable to even try. Each day I'm sure will get better...I hope! -
I had the sleeve in 2013 and am in the process of looking to revise to a DS. I am extremely worried about the insurance portion. I know "everyone's insurance is different" I get it. Having been through the insurance stuff before I do realize it's case by case etc. I have Aetna and I did read the policy jacket and all that. I just want to know is there anyone on here that was approved for a second surgery and if so what is your story? I have had a little regain but been stalled over a year and a "twisted" sleeve it looks like cobblestones on top of each other. My BMI is 37. NO COMORBIDIES (sp?) Has anyone been approved in a similar situation?

Yeah, I've been there over the last year my acid reflux got so bad that I had to be revised to the bypass

Hey surgery sisters and brothers!!! How's it going? Having issues with anything I can help with (seriously ask anything)? I have so many food ideas - working from home has its benefits! I can pretty much eat whatever but I haven't pushed that boundary to far.. I'm still a tuna pouch loving hippie LOL. This revision has been a trip....I'm down 30 pounds and wow the attention makes my head spin (my wifey has been very complimentary) ... I'm only 5'2" (on a good day) so weight looks different on us short chicks... let's see the latest weird "compliment" was "dang you're stacked" so I'm guessing my boobs are still huge compared to the fact that I finally HAVE A DEFINDED WAIST again. I had to go in the basement and find bras that my 'ladies' aren't just swimming in and can present well (LOL). Going in the basement has become a shopping experience for me the last week or so. The date of our first date is April 3rd so I like to Celebrate our "dateiversary" and I went to Target looking for a cute dress. I found one and tried it on for my best friend. She said "ummmm K that's too big on you can you get a smaller size?" I was shocked! I went and got a smaller size and its a misses LARGE - I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around it. I REALLY wish I could find a local in person support group but so far no dice

Ok yall here's an update. I got my letter and they said they needed all the info on my previous failed lapband. It took some digging because the lapband I had was in 2008 removed in 2011. I did not even mention the band starting this process so not sure why they need all the info. They Arnt doing a revision so I didn't thunk it would be a big deal. They also said I gained one pound during my nut visits program which I did but it was during Thanksgiving and I lost the pound plus 6 more the next visit. Grr. So any who my doc resubmitted all my paperwork for the 3rd time now so please throw up a prayer and good thoughts. I'm trying not to lose hope.
