What ya eating tonight?
iamworthit replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. I measure everything. I am on mushy food so I keep it between 2-3 ounces on anything as thick as greek yogurt. If it is a protein shake I go up to 8 ounces but that is thinned out. I am always super full after protein shakes. The 2-3 ounces of yogurt or cottage cheese etc always fills me up too. I try and have something, even if it is 4 ounces of skim milk at least every 3 hours. My calories are super low but my protein has been between 55-60 grams. I'd like to up that by 10-15 grams in the next day or so. -

I know this doesn't technically count because its breakfast & not dinner, but I had 1.5 eggs and a meatless sausage patty with a few ounces of Trop50 OJ. Felt like a real meal!! First "meal" I've eaten since surgery that wasn't just some chicken breast or yogurt, etc. it's the small victories -

I've been wanting chicken salad in lettuce wraps. I typically make my chicken salad with a little greek yogurt, mayo, crasians, and celery. I can't have the crasians, the celery, or the lettuce yet but this will be my first meal once I can. It's also good with cut up green apple and red grapes. Yum. -

Hi lindsaymel, you should stay on liquids for 10 days, then slowly move on to mushes like mash potatoes with a little soft veg & gravy bit like baby food weetibix with warm milk smoothies with low fat yogurts, sorry not very exciting but when you have been on liquids for 10 days potatoes never tasted so good, just take it slowly you be grand, i know its frustrating when your starting to get your appetite back and feel really hungry and just want to eat everthing its hard but it will be worth it in the long run when you start to see results, you will get help when you start to get your fills hang in there its so worth it happy days x:thumbup: -

Hya chicks, Sammy I cant get hardly anything down, still, I dont feel so good atm, dont know if its the lack of food and water, cos I cant get much of either down. Damn headache, which is a sure sign of being dehydrated, I keep thinking that tomorrow it will loosen a bit, but if anything its getting tighter. Sammy how's your loss going hun? Bless the baby walking, how lovely, you will be running everywhere after him now, once they find their feet there's no stopping them. Gillian I know I'm over-filled, but it was fine after he did it, I swallowed yogurt and the water. It was the 5 hours or more drive home of sat in one position, being scared $hitless that made it so tight. Anyway thats enough about moi, glad you are at your sweetspot, well done!!! Christmas will be a buzz, with all you people so slim!!! Homecare!!! You have done so well, especially with your thyroid problem, well done. Flirtydrawers, are you bricking it or mostly excited? God I do so admire you, you will be a movie queen when you're done. -

Thank you for the kind words. Wannabe, with me food has quit being an issue (!!!) amazingly. Instead of it being the treasure I want to dive into, it's become something to keep me from getting weak and dizzy. Even with only 4cc, I tend to be on the tighter restriction side. So, in the mornings I either only have coffee and maybe a small yogurt if I am hungry. Lunch is usually some salmon and dinner is whatever I make for the family. And it really has gotten to the point that I don't think THAT much about what I'm eating because I never eat enough for it to be terribly bad for me. I made ooey gooey lasagna last nice and it was good, but I only had a sliver. So, I stick to protein first and then a vegetable or something if I'm not full. My BIG weakness is ice cream, this is a new addiction. But, when I indulge, I will usually choose to have an ice cream cone INSTEAD of a meal.....poor nutrition I know but SO GOOD and I do it in moderation. That was a lot of words for no answer, huh? hahahahah -

Hi Homecare, thanks re the footy looking forward to it but just hope this stitch doesnt play up?? it was bothering me the other day but yesterday and today nothing thankfully,it was probably due to me trying on new shoes/boots and clothes the day it started up so it must be down to all the twisitng and bending and the muscle not being fully healed yet. i am mainly sticking to my veggy soup, porridge, crispbreads, scrambled egg, yogurts, puddings, jellys but i did have a lovely chicken curry with boiled rice on sat as a treat(small portion) and it went down ok,also had tatties & mince which was fine so tonight i have some smoked haddock & veg to try.......will let u know how i get on! how are you getting on with the solid food? see yah:smile: -

Hi guys Homecare thanks for the well wishes. Bobobaldy thanks for letting me know what happens when you get to target. Wow you've done fantastic. I was given a fill last Thursday 0.5ml which brings me up to 6.0ml in a 7ml band. Boy is it tight!!! Having the dreaded reflux at night and have never had that before. Was eating a yogurt earlier and threw it back up. Even icecream came back up. Managing to eat a few of those Carrs Cheese Crackers and of course the odd Malteser is managing to stay down  Hoping this won't last for too long otherwise I'll be back to see him for an aspiration. For the moment, Gaviscon and Rennies are my best friends!! -

Hi ladies. Just a few minutes before my tutoree comes but wanted to check in. Went to the chiropractor today and feel a little better. Tonight will be my real test. I'll tell you tomorrow. I'm not sure what all I ate today. Went to chinese for lunch and not sure how to track that since it was a little of this and a little of that from the buffet. Dinner was 1/2 cup of fresh pinapple and 1/2 cup smoked turkey sausage. Skipped bfast since I was late getting out of house...was going to get a burrito at mcd's. Will probably have kashi and yogurt for snack tonight. Was going to try to up my protein but I don't think I managed it. Jeff bought a new snowmobile today. He thinks he's going to ride it but I'm pretty sure it's going to turn into mine. It's electric start and has reverse. If he thinks he gets those goodies and I don't, he's nuts. Okay...better go. Have a good night ladies.

Hello everyone... I wanted to check in. I was banded on July 23rd and am still on mushies until next week. I am getting my appetite back. I am having cravings again and am very uncomfortable with them. it is so hard to not resort to food when I am stressed. Truthfully, I am dying for some steak tips. I don't eat mashed potatoes, but I have been eating them this week so I can feel like I am eating something substantial instead of cottage cheese or yogurt. I am sure I am not the only one, but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on how to get through these weeks not being able to eat normally.

Steph - The Kashi GoLean High Protein cereal is pretty much a stable in my diet. 1 cup of it for 140 calories AND 13 grams of protein. It is almost a perfect food! I will tell you that you might not like it at first, but it grows on you. Since I can't have milk, I mix it with Dannon lite and fit yogurt. I eat it for my morning snack quite often. 200 calorie snack and I stay full for a long time. Janet - I so get the waking up fat again...Check out my blog (address in my signature) to see my WHOLE post on that problem. Phyl - Sorry to hear about your DD. I think Janet is right...just keep bugging her. Hopefully she will get over it quickly. Peaches - Nice job on the diet. Much easier when you have restriction, eh? I have been working on the Canadian accent! So I ran 4 miles tonight!!!!! Insert cheer, sigh, a few tears, and a big WAHOOOOOOO!. I wanted to give up at 1 mile, 2 miles, but by the time I hit three miles, I thought hell...if I have come this far, I might as well just go the full 4 miles. Thank goodness tomorrow is a rest day! My legs are sore. Then on Saturday I have my first race. I will post pictures on my blog. As for DH, he got his evaluation for the job that he was resigning from. It was TERRIBLE. His supervisor is a total a$$, so I told him to forget the fact that he had one week left and tell them this was his last night. It would have been nice to have the extra week worth of pay, but no one attacks my hubby's character without me having something to say about it. I was so pissed I almost ran to the call center and kicked that guy in the balls. Yes, I am just as fiesty as my band mom! He already started the new billing invoice job, and won't hear back from the state job until early May. So we wait. He said that he is going to get temp jobs since he is done at the other job by 9AM. Plus he can vounteer with people that have disabilities so that he can get the experience he needs for the state jobs. It will all work out in the end. I am just happy that I am going to have him home in the evenings. It has been lonely around here! Well I am icing my legs now and FREEZING so as soon as my 20 minutes is up I am going to go jump in the shower...Though if you look at my hair, sports bra and shirt you would have thought that I had just gotten out of the shower. I was sweating like a stuffed pig tonight. Check in later!

Patti C - Good news! I noticed this past week I gained a few pounds and wasn't really freaking out, but not happy about it at all! Today I weighed myself and I've lost what I gained. Remember, also that I can eat just about everything...no real post-op diet for me, just progress as I see fit. There IS hope, just remember you're RECOVERING not DIETING! Jeanie - I didn't really have any "food stages"...I was on clear liq. for 2 days and then I moved to all liq. and soft foods (yogurt, cot. cheese) for a few days. Now I'm eating everything except bread and soda (I'm just not mentally prepared to deal with an issue if I have one with these). Kathy - Now that surgery is over I'm sure it went fine. You had an odd pre-op diet anyway...doc should've given you more options. Indiogirl - Love ya, girl, but we shouldn't give any mis-information here...MY DOC HAS ABORTED A SURGERY BEFORE and almost did the other day again. Pre-op diets are designed for a reason and if we can't follow them (most of the time...no one's perfect) then maybe we should re-evaluate if this is the right tool for us. Cate54 - I would suggest trying Tylenol instead of Ibuprophen...Ib. has been known to show stomach/bowel upset...which could be showing up as pain for you. I would stay off of it for a couple of days, eat some yogurt to clean you out, and stick to Tylenol. I would be this will help. Update - First...we did IT! Yes, I mean, IT. Pain wasn't so bad...did I mention that my husband is a fantastic luuuvvveeerrr? Sorry, Lynette that you're having to wait so long. I spoke too soon the other day, the pain in my left-of-center is back with a vengence. I moved a lot yesterday and that could be the culprit. Could be that I've been picking up my daughter and today I'll stop and relax...I have a hot date with my DH tonight!OOOOOOwweeee! Last night I had my first REAL meat. I got over zealous and downed a large piece of grilled chicken. Right after I swallowed I realized that I did not chew well enough and I was instantly worried that I was going to have issues. I just sat for a minute and sipped some Water. Within a couple of minutes the discomfort passed, but it really taught me a lesson about chewing!

Kathy - I have a little 3x4 sprial notebook (that i got at Target) that I carry with me. I log my food and exercise in. For me it's easy - i throw it in my purse every morning - then throw it on my desk during the day and on my coffee table at night - I don't have to be signed in anywhere to log my food. I just jot down what I ate - calories & protein grams. I jot down my weight each thrusdays and keep a running total of total lost each week.. example of page 1/2 - Wed yogurt/banana 100 c 5 pt meat 150 18 pt veggies 35 2pt fish 200 28 pt rice 120 1 pt veggie 50 2 pt shrimp 100 10 pt popcorm 100 exercise 3 miles

BlooEyes Yes I have 1/2 cup of rice almost every night with dinner. but that's about it for my carbs (usually) Today I had dannon lite & fit yogurt with1/2 banana 3 oz salmon and 1 cup spinach & 4 corn tortilla chips the othe half of banana after lunch - I was hungry... 1 clear protein drink 4 oz salmon 1/2 cup rice 2 reduce fat trisket (sp) w/mustard 3/4 oz cheeze 850 c so far and about 75 grms of pt budget for midnight kitchen raid 80 fudgeclice & 1 sf pudding 60 c So That will give me about 990 c for the day & 80 grm of pt and I haven't eaten my yellow crooked neck squash yet cuz I am full from dinner but if i get hungry (mostly head hunger for me at night) i will have some of my veggies.. and I walked 3 mile at the gym tonite I am a WW girl - so that's pretty much the food plan I follow - I have been having snack bag of smart pop popcorn at night lately for that gotta crunch mode I guess I am lucky - as long as I weigh & measure my food (well I don't measure veggies - but i have a small bowl that holds one cup) 1 cup is alot of food in reality but i still disagree that 1/4 of a pint of ice cream is a serving - back with my fat brain 1 pt was one serving now with my band brain I still think at least 1/2 pint s/b a serving) - i don't eat it but heck come 1/4 of a pint - My suggestion - is throw the truffles out.... if they aren't there you won't eat them - i did not have one piece of see's candy over the holidays - in fact the only treats i had were when I made xmas cookies w/grandaughters - i didn't have any of the sweets that were in my office not one... Jello makes a sf double choc pudding which is excellent i eat these when i need my choc fix...

So the opera is a no go. Good thing my dad didn't come over because we have gotten almost 8 inches of snow in the last 4 hours. Fortunately for him, they cancelled the show and he will get his money back. We did find another opera that is about an hour from where he lives that we are going to go to in March. It all worked out. I am just excited that he was going to make the effort to come over here. The opera (Barber of Seville) is special to us because we used to conduct to it when I was very little (like 2-3 y.o.). He moved out when I was 4 and pretty much stopped having contact with me until 5 or 6 years ago. It was a combination of him not having good parenting skills (his parents were abusive), my mom not wanting him in my life and his wife being well... herself. But when my grandma died we decided that we were both adults and that we should try and get to know each other. We don't talk very often, but I do see him almost everytime I go back to visit my brother and my doctor. I still am a little hesitant to get too close. Abandonment issues! Janet I was thinking about you last night when we went out to dinner. I was able to order a side of chicken breast and could eat without pain:lol::wink2:. I am still pretty tight in the morning though. Yogurt has become my new breakfast food and even then I can feel pressure. I have decided that for me the band allows me to stay fuller longer, but that I don't use it to help me control my portions. I put 1 cup of food (sometimes less) in front of me and that is all that I eat. The band has rarely helped me stop eating, but does allow me to only eat 3-4 times per day. I think that is why I hate being so tight. I didn't mentally feel like it was enough to eat so the head hunger was almost unbearable. My brain has been trained now to know that it can only have 1 cup of food, so anything more than that actually makes me a little nervous. I think to myself (and sometimes say outloud!) "How does anyone expect me to eat all of that food!" Well I just got home from the gym and haven't had a whole lot to eat today so I am feeling a little fatigued. Off to get some food. Chat later.

Ruby Too Funny - Hubby better watch out - when he wants something I would like to try it out 1st before I buy it - I guess I will wait til Phyl comes back to the desert and then I will test hers out - (well if she brings it:wink2:) Back from the gym - 3.25 mile up to 8 incline - and even ran for a second - well really a few - didn't tract. I think I would like that nike thingie that Karri has - it goes on your shoe?? I have a pedometer - but I didn't measure my steps so I don't know how accurate it is. I am feeling really good about my exercise an how far I have come in 10 months. Drinking my 1st bottle of water - had coffee but I don't count that  Ok you ladies that have things planed for the weekend with bbq etc - watch out for those mac & potato salads - If you make them - make them with a mixture of no fat & lite fat mayo to help reduce the calories - I mix the 2 for things like that - but use lite stuff on my sandwiches - which I may eat once or twice a month made with lite bread. Turkey 45 bread 45 may 50 - and I have to eat very slowly. get full on 1/2 - yesterday had 1/2 for breakfast and the other half with yogurt for lunch Dinner 3 oz tri tip some veggies and desert popcorn & 3/4 of a yogurt. snack half can of oysters & 2 triskets.. I got interviewed for Palm Springs Life Magazine about my lapband and Dr Bobbie - Should be in the August issue. Can't wait to see what she edits what I said.. Waiting for my stimulus check should be here today - $$$ for shopping to help the economy - Well I guess I Will have the sacrifice and go shopping today and tomorrow and Monday :thumbup:

Welcome Kristen07.. what has kept me sane during this time, I keep full by drinking to stay full, everytime I feel the urge to stuff my face I grab a bottle of water, crystal light, ice tea, slim fast optima or something. The first couple days are hard, but it gets easier everyday. My family had fried chicken today and I had a yogurt and it didn't even bother me.
-
Chim, Isn't it strange how some of us aren't hungry and some are??? I don't get it, exact same surgeries, but completely different results early on! I guess it will level out, but just amazes me! Don't feel bad about the ice cream ... that's a little thing ... I had yogurt one night last week and it was divine!!! LOL Sure made me feel better, lol!

Morning everyone. I was told by the dietician at my clinic that many bandsters feel "tighter" in the morning... more restriction. I thought she was crazy when she said this... but its true!! At night I can eat 1 cup of soup or yogurt. In the morning, all I can get in is about 4 spoons of yogurt and I'm full. Cool. Anyone else get this? Where are you Jeanie? Haven't heard from you since Wed. I'm off for the day. We're taking the kids to Port Huron (just 45 min away and over the boarder) I like to shop there in August for school clothes and last minute summer stuff. I'm probably going to eat at Olive Garden (we don't have those here in Canada, and we love them), but not sure how successful it will be since I'm still on full fluids.

Lynette, how are you tonight? I'm listening to my DH curse in the kitchen as he is trying to paint... he must be getting tired (hence the cursing). The floor went in today and looks beautiful. The company is promising to provide some compensation for not showing up Friday... we'll see what happens. If all goes well, the cupboards will arrive Wed. and my DH and brother will install them on Thurs - Sat. So I should have a working kitchen by end of day Sat. I really need this to be done before my surgury. I planned my date so that all would be done. I didn't want this hanging over me while I was laid up. Just like many of you have posted, I'm nesting right now, and the mess is really bumming out this mother bird :tired:tired My pre-op diet is going so-so. For everyone who has to do these pre-op diets... let me say it just isn't fair. We want to lose weight, but this is down right ridiculous. Today I've had 4 yogurts, 1 cottage cheese (yuck), 1 glass of milk and a chicken breast. That's maybe 500 cals. I'm so sick of the renovation, that I took my daughter out for dinner tonight. So here I am at Swiss Chalet (rotisserie chicken chain in Canada) watching my 3 year old daughter eat a leg/thigh, french fries, my salad, chocolat milk and my roll, while I have a chicken breast. She ate 3x as much as me!!!! She's 30 lbs and I'm almost 300 lbs. There is something wrong with this picture :hungry::hungry::hungry::hungry: DMTJET: My daughter was born here in London. She was born into a very bad situation. Children's Aid tried to work with the family, but they just couldn't get it together enough to care for her. She was born at 26 weeks gestation, and was less than 2 lbs. Poor thing spent 3-1/2 months in the hospital on a respirator, suffered 2 strokes. She briefly went home, but failed to thrive. So Children's Aid apprehended her and placed her in foster care. Chimboree: Has your illness cleared up yet? I hope you're feeling better soon. Good luck to all on deck tomorrow!!!

Hi, Cherea, Glad to hear you are doing so well. I am so excited for next week to come! I just went out to Albertson's & got a pack of RubberMaid 4 oz containers with lids. I'm going to make up some broth, etc. ahead of time & have them in the freezer ready to heat up. I also bought 20 small Fat Free Yogurts. I'm getting ready!! Breadlady is still among the missing. Very strange since she wa posting every day even while she was at the lake. Hope all is well. Dini hasn't been on since last night, I don't think. We're leaving in the morning for three days in Canada & I'm really going to miss my new favorite website and all of you!! :canada:
