    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

    22. My five year plan is part of my 10 year plan. So, of course, weight loss and gain good health. Launch my private practice. Get a new puppy. Travel, visit with loved ones. have fun. Also got my squats and crunches done. B-Side: No I don't usually take pictures of my food. I did once of an arugula salad because it looked so pretty but that's been it that I can recall. My sister, the erstwhile chef, does all the time and records herself cooking.

    Anyone had full bypass surgery??

I was revised 2/12/19. I was released from the hospital the evening of the day, mostly because I pushed to be released. When I woke up after surgery I was nauseous and dry heaving, but after a couple of hours it passed and I was walking 3 hours later. I was not allowed any liquids or anything until around noon the next day after they did the barium swallow test to make sure there were no leaks. After that they had me slowly introduce water, gradually adding a bit more each hour and by around 4 they brought me a tray with broth, iced tea and sf jello. If I could keep a few bites down I was good to go. I never had narcotic pain meds, just IV tylenol. I really didn’t have much pain but I did get a headache that wouldn’t go away. When I came home I was good, not exhausted like many. I’m not normally a napper and didn’t even nap when lounging around the days after surgery. By 2-3 days home I slept on my side and tummy, was getting in 40oz of fluid and about 30-40 g of protein in shakes. I have felt great. Surgery day weight was 230lbs, today I’m at 196.7. I’m getting about 600-700 calories a day in, 50-70g of protein and about 25 carbs. Because I’m a revision I am extra careful about what I’m eating and am on guard about making sure I’m not grazing. I’m determined not to fail this surgery!
  7. So I can’t figure out this site. I want to add May surgery to the line up. I’m going for the by-pass on May 1. I’m doing the pre op diet now and it’s not that bad. I started this journey at 229 lbs and am at 190 now. Hoping to loose 6-10 pounds before surgery. Which can’t be hard. I exercise with YouTube and walking my dachshund pups who keep me active Insurance is approved and wow this is really happening. Can’t believe it. I’m so excited for this I am 4 foot 9 And being this weight. I kinda look like a blob and I think once I loose this weight I’ll love myself. I like me now. But will love me later I have a support system. My sister and boyfriend and his family And I still see my Counceling people. Why. Because they are helping me out a lot. And thought with a group of may surgery people we will have something in common Yeah for May !!!!!

    Fear!!

I am right there with you! Scheduled for surgery May 16th & all I can think about is 'what if i'm the .01%'.
  10. So I was feeling really good about myself and having dreams I was doing sit ups. I then thought ok well let’s give it a try. I did a few before on Friday. This morning I woke up with a bit of pain in my stomach. I just had Easter dinner yesterday though, so it could have been that. It’s stupid because I’m not supposed to lift more than 10 lbs, but for how long! My check up with the dr is on the 24th and my surgery date was March 11th. I’ve lost about 40 lbs. I’ve gone to the pool once so far. So do any of you think I pushed it too much?

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

19, 20 & 21) done. It’s been a really busy 3 days but my phone was turned off (from 10 pm til 6am 😂😂😂). 22) 5 year dream plan - to have achieved goal weight and to have successfully kept it off. For my family to continue to experience good physical and mental health. I’m sure I’ll come up with quite a few more but those are the biggies for now. I hope everyone is in good health and spirits as we start the new week 😍
  12. Oh wow, reading this my calorie intake is quiet bad, between 1300-1600 a day these days, i am 10 months out , lost 73 odd kg’s , 6 foot 3 , 96 kg now ....
  13. Betcha there are more slow losers than you think. You just don't hear of us among the I came home from the hospital, Un -water- logged, and losing 10 pounds a day!" They get all the press, not the pokey losers the rest of us are! And just because they do this well, it doesn't mean everything else is going perfect. Just keep on trying and know it is for your betterment you are doing this!

    Immediate Weight Loss

If you really think about it, and I’m not being sarcastic, you couldn’t physically gain 5 pounds of fat in a week right? So it had to be fluid. Every person who panics about weight gain after surgery needs to remember that it’s not possible to gain fat if you’re not eating and if it’s that rapid (5-10 lbs in a week)

    Diabetic Results

I was in metformin, glimperide and Lantus. I've had diabetes for 15 years or so. I'm now down to 10 units 9f lantus at night. I take glimeperide only if my breakfast or dinner bs is over 180. I'm pleased my numbers are in the 140 range and this morning was 121. They were terribly high the first month out.

it's the fluids they give you in the hospital. I've gained up to 10 lbs after a surgery because of those. It'll be gone in a few days.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Idawn, I started walking a few days after surgery. My surgeon said to do 10,000 steps a day - he didn't give a time frame, so I just started working toward that goal. My little step tracker is my new best friend. I didn't realize what a motivational impact it would have! As I started getting 10,000 steps a day pretty consistently, I also added 10 flights of stairs a day and 100 wall pushups a day (4 sets of 25). Then I added an upper body weight routine every other day. Each week I increase the number of sets by 1/2 set. I also started using the Elliptical machine 30 min a day, alternating with the days I do the weights. I have never been a great exercise buff - hiking yes, but just pain exercising, not so much. BUT..... I can feel my arms getting stronger and seeing some actual muscles! (little ones.) My stamina and endurance and increased a lot, and I can knock off those stairs like nothing now. I don't get out of breath when I walk up hills, and I am starting to walk faster. I had to go out of town this past week for a funeral and I was really worried about eating wrong and not getting the exercise in. I did my best to eat well, although it was hard because we went out a lot, but I DID get my 10,000 steps a day, 10 flights of stairs, 100 wall pushups and weights in - every single day! Amazingly, I actually lost some weight on the trip, and I really do attribute it to the exercise. I have not had any real stalls yet. The weight loss has been pretty consistent, and again, I attribute this to the exercise, I know that exercise is going to be one of the big keys to keeping the weight off and not regaining, once I hit my goal, so I am trying really hard to incorporate it into a routine that I will continue for life. I don't think it matters what you do, as long as you get some cardio and some strength training in. The more muscle you build, the better your metabolism will be, I think you have to set some small, realistic goals and then increase them a little each week. For example, once I can do 5 sets of my upper body routine with my 3 pound weights, I will increase to 5 pound weights and start over with just a few sets, gradually building those up. The best buddy is that step tracker. Whenever we stopped for gas or potty on our trip, I was walking, Whenever I have a lull at work, I walk for 5-10 minutes. I park in the farthest spot when shopping or at work to get a few more steps. It is very empowering, makes me feel more positive about myself, and I think it is also toning me up a bit, because my saggy skin doesn't seem so loose. Anyway, find a way to do it in small bites and I think you will be very happy with how you feel.

Failed EVERYTHING, need to know I'm not alone.

I'm nearly 19 months out and I need support EVERY day. There isn't a day that I don't call someone just to talk and help me work through my maintenance. I go to support groups a therapist and Over Eaters Anonymous. For so many years I Failed at weight loss and I Failed at maintaining what weight I did lose. Today, I ask for and I receive the help I need. It isn't easy, I attend meetings, I call people, I meet with healthcare professionals and I ask for help. You will get support here but you will also probably need to surround yourself with others who can help you on a daily basis. Don't be afraid to seek help or ask for it, you'd be surprised at the amount of help there is to be had.
  21. Hi there. That is normal from my experience. I'm 10 weeks post op and according to my surgeon...I was a very slow healer. My stomach and pain literally stopped a few days ago...until then, it was painful all the time...even when sipping water. So everyone is different but hang in there. Unfortunately it will be a little painful but make sure you're taking the muscle spasm medication...that helped me a lot. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. Well I decided to be atypical today. Many people have ham or lamb but I decided to make bean soup with Turkey Ham in my 6 quart crockpot. Untill I reread it , it said Crackpot, maybe that's close to the truth. Just Tomkitten and me, doubt we'll hear from R.D., if I call her she'll pretend to be super- busy and claim she has no time to talk. If that's the game she wants to play, Okay, she was 50 years old in January, too late to reform her thinking. When I tripped and fell in the parking lot at JFS, T9mkitten couldn't ride along in the squad, so her called her so I wouldn't be alone at the hospital.Been several months since I had seen here, she walked in and OMG I scarcely recognized her. She had on a raggedy old sweatsuit her dad would have used for car cleaning rags, her hair, she must take after Late Lamented,Well I well. mostly gray now in l8ght brown hair. Rather muddy- looking. But I'm a class act, I can pretend to be happy to see her in front of people if necessary. But isn't it sad for a m9other not to be able to recognize

    Construction worker with concerns

You wouldn't be able to lift more than 10 pounds for six weeks post-op. Sometimes you might get lightheaded but with increased salt intake you'll fix that. You could to back to work within two weeks but you'll be tired.
  24. I had liposuction years and years ago when it was still new and it does nothing for weight loss. The fat cells come back and other ones are quite happy to store extra. My BMI was 32 when I got my band 10 years ago. I am of the view that people that are only a “ little bit obese” eventually become a “ lot obese” if they don’t do something early on. All those people that got to BMIs of 40 and above would once have had a BMI similar to yours. Did they manage to lose the weight with diet and exercise or WW, no, they needed surgical intervention. That is because obesity is complex and the solution is not as simple as just diet and exercise, if it was none of us would have a problem. I had to have my band out in Jan due to issues and I revised to an RNY, at that point my BMI was under 30. I am happy I did because after 56 years I know that I need help to control my weight, I can’t do it on my own.
  25. I had gastric sleeve surgery April 15 2019. As I write this it is April 20 (6days). I just made a big error by eating two crinkle fries ( well chewed) The first one was ok and the second was going down very very slow down my throat and I was drinking liquids to push it down. As of right now, my stomach is not in pain. My stomach feels fine. My main concern is that it feels that it is stuck further down my esophagus. I’m drinking tea and water to help it go down and I’m very scared and nervous. I totally regret it and I definitely learned my lesson. Never again! Please can anyone help ! What should I do?
