    weight plateau and energy loss

as long as you're sticking to your clinic's plan, it's just a stall. Most of us have our first major stall within the first 3-6 weeks after surgery - yours is a little later than that, but I'm sure that's what's going on. You'll likely hit several of these throughout your journey. It's annoying, but it's all part of weight loss (at least for many of us) when you hit these, just stay off your scale (maybe just weighing once a week) and make sure you're following your plan to a "T". They usually last about 1-3 weeks before breaking - and then you'll be on your way again.

Thats great! I hope youve been able to work on eating behaviors with the. You could consider how important this is to you. Really visualize how weight loss surgery will help your life. Find a big reason and keep it in the forefront of your mind. It's not easy and takes will power but having a "because" can really push you along. It's not inherently bad that you've eaten certain foods but really you only know if you're being reckless through food. If the food is triggering for you and keeps you from sticking to a plan, it could be reckless. It's good you find better alternative food items but also think of alternatives that aren't related to food. My therapist always said put distance between you and food. I know your appointment isn't right away but it's coming up! Keep thinking about why you're doing this and put the work in to eat and live in a way that makes you a good candidate for bariatric surgery. The work is up to you at the end of the day. If you make a mistake get back on the horse. You have the rest of your life to enjoy all kinds of food in moderation. The time before your surgery and while you're healing after is a time to take a step back and relearn everything about nutrition and eating down to the core. Have you tried counseling? I'm a big fan of it. It's got me through the journey and my bad eating patterns. I'm over a month post op and having that counseling allows you to see why you do something and what to do instead. My urges to overeat were greatly reduced pre op and now that I'm post op, I have no urges to overeat. I've been with my psychologist for 10 months now. She's the best! I still eat food I like (that I can tolerate and is part of my plan) and I don't believe in moralizing food. It's people's bad behavior around food that's an issue, not the food. Moderation is key and learning to eat more protein over carbs is a good idea pre op. An easy way to do that is having a daily protein and calorie goal so you can get the right food in and not overdo it. Don't beat yourself up for eating things that aren't right for you in the moment either. Part of successful weight loss is believing in yourself and not giving up or beating yourself down so much because of a mistake. I still have my moody days trust me but any good dietician will tell you progress, not perfection. Especially if eating is emotional for you. Just make sure you're honest with your team and set clear goals and boundaries with food and weight. They're there to help you. Build a treatment team if you feel like you don't have control over what you're eating. And im sure lots other who comment on this thread will have good advice! Welcome to the community. 4. Hello this is my first post. I wanted to try to get a better understanding as to what is possibly going on. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on the 24th Jan of this year the first 5 weeks i lost a lot of weight fast, 20kg. Now i'm at a stand still the past 2 weeks i'm bobbing up and down 1/2 kg. i'm now down to 146 kg. I have no access to a dietitian until 16th May so i can't ask whats going on. I was at my local GP on Friday to get a blood test ordered as i have anemia on and off since surgery i felt like rubbish no energy, tired all the time and it's an effort to get out the front door. I'm suppose to be making all these fantastic changes exercising and honestly i just don't have the energy for it i do try to get out every day for a walk thats a force. I'd apprechiate any insight, thoughts or ideas all are welcome.
  5. like the above person, I ate hummus as well as for food not being appealing, a lot of us lose our sense of hunger - and our interest in food - for up to a year post-op (a lucky few lose it forever, and I wish I had been one of those, but alas - mine came roaring back at five months out). Take full advantage of that, because it'll never in your life be easier to lose weight than it will right now - and probably for the next few months - when you're never hungry and don't give a flip about food. It all comes back for most of us, so take advantage of it while you can! Things get a lot more challenging when hunger returns!

    July 2021 Surgery People!

Hi Everyone, So....it's been 7 months for us. I've lost 20 pounds. I was very depressed for a while because I wholeheartedly expected to lose more and more quickly. As long as I keep losing, it will be ok. Maybe it's good that's its been so slow. IDK So, get this, the new dr put me on Adipex. I told her that I had taken Adipex for my entire adult life (I'm 56). But she prescribed it anyway. She told me to eat every 3 to 4 hours. And she told me that I wasn't getting enough protein. I know that's true. Most days I don't even get half of what I'm supposed to have. I know this, I've had enough protein shakes and eggs to last a lifetime. Why aren't there scientists out there figuring out a way to make a protein patch or a capsule. LOL I did get some JRobb protein powder to add to soups and yogurts. I haven't tried it yet. I'm wearing clothes I haven't worn in a long time --and that's nice. I still have 16 pounds to go to reach my goal. The surgeon made it sound like I would lose all I would lose in year one. In other words, he doesn't see patients losing in year two very often. This leaves me 5 months to try to lose the 16. I'd like to know if any of you guys heard the same thing. Can I really expect NOT to lose after a year? Or possibly even gain back? On an unrelated note -- I've been reading about alcohol. I'm trying to cut back on that too, hoping maybe that will help with the weight loss. I've lost some hair. The new dr is super nice and she explained why we lose hair --that's why I've got to figure out a way to get the proteins in. I'm very happy for all of you who have lost really big amounts of weight. That's got to be life-changing. Congratulations. Baby sister had gastric bypass in Tijuana in October and has lost nearly 80 pounds.
  7. Brilliant! I'm also self pay, I'm in the UK. Emotional eating has got me to this weight and I know that changing that is going to be a tough journey. You must be so excited to be travelling tomorrow. I have my pre-op bloods on Tuesday and Glen my op Thursday. I'm hoping to get to 150lb!!!! Got everything crossed even my eyes lol. Hope you have a lovely journey to Vegas, this year is our year! Whoop whoop look out world here we come xxxx Sent from my SM-G980F using BariatricPal mobile app

    May 2022 surgery?

Yes! I’m hopeful that all goes well and this is the tool I need to help me beat the weight fight. You’ve lost 18 lbs already - way to go!
  9. Hello all! I'm in the pureed phase for ten more days, and I'm curious about what everyone else is eating. I've tried the ricotta bake, and I wasn't a huge fan. I made cauliflower soup which I love but can't eat anymore this week. Ha. I've mostly just been eating yogurt, thinned-out refried beans, smoothies, and jello. I don't know if my taste buds have changed, but nothing tastes very appealing anymore. I am not eating much, but I know I'm still on track with weight loss because I'm down 16 lbs.

    Sleeve or Bypass? Confused

i had the gastric bypass because of its severity and restrictions. i know two co workers that had the sleeve, regained weight back and have bad GERD. The sleeve seems too easy because of stretching and talking to my co workers. My gastric bypass was done Nov 1, 2021, down 76lbs to date. Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I love going to craft shows and I love to buy rings but they never fit me and they'd always have to be sized for me or made specially. I was about a size 9-10. Yesterday I went to a craft show and most of the rings either fit or were on the big side! The ones that fit were about a size 7! The down side of this is now I have to have all of my old rings sized down, but I'm waiting until my weight is stable.
  13. Thank you for the quick responses! I've been wearing orthotics since I was young, so I don't expect that to ever go away, but my feet definitely got worse over the years with more weight gain, especially in the last 3 years it became so painful to walk for longer than 20 minutes without massive aching in my arches and feet, and of course the fun bonuses that go with it like shin splints, tight tendons, and knee pain! I'm just hoping some of those symtpoms go away with the weight loss. I've got some good ASICS now that have taken me a long time to 'break in', my feet still get sore no matter what I wear after a certain period, but at least I know that it should improve a bit and that I'm wearing good shoes and have proper orthotics. I'll see how I go later down the track when I've lost some weight!

How did everyone do with diet journal before surgery?

Though you feel embarrassed, try to be honest in your journal. The journaling can be very helpful when you reflect on the why you eat, when you eat & what you eat head work that will support you changing your relationship with food. Not sleeping at night is awful. For decades I’d lie awake for hours. Watching the clock & anxiously calculating how many hours I could get in if I went to sleep now before I’d have to get up. Stress at work then menopause meant I developed bad sleeping habits. But losing weight helped a lot. Have gone from getting maybe 5 hours a night (& sometimes a lot less) to averaging 7. Some nights I can even get 8 or 9. Sheer bliss. Have to admit I didn’t eat, but I’d often get up to work (how sad is that), watch tv, read, etc. My mother gets up & eats when she can’t sleep though & I’ve seen her frustration with that habit. She was on that terrible sleeping med for a little while too where you would wake & eat & have no memory of doing so. She’d find empty ice cream containers, or other food wrappers in the kitchen in the morning. Scary! Hope they can sort yours out soon. All the best.
  15. As Catwoman7 said it depends upon how much weight you have to lose. Other factors can influence the loss as well. Some are your own choices & actions & others are physiological factors & how your body reacts to the surgery & the changes to diet & activity. I reached my goal at 6 months but continued to lose for another 11 months (at a much slower rate of course) because I was finding it challenging to eat enough to stop the loss. My metabolism was still running pretty fast then too (wish it still ran that fast) & your metabolic set point will influence when your weight loss stops. Because as time passes we are able to eat larger portions (equal to recommended serving sizes) so too your calories increase & the weight loss stops. Also just general lifestyle choices. Some people are happy for their loss to stop at a higher weight than they first thought they’d reach simply because they didn’t want to continue to make food choices that restricted or limited their lifestyle.
  16. I’m back! I’ve recently committed to getting back to goal after my devastating gain back of 70 kilos. I’m still down 40 kilos from pre surgery weight so at least I don’t have to start again at least. I’m back on this site looking for tips from others who have regained and how they got back on track. I am targeting lean protein, limiting carbs and being very strict I hope it feels natural again soon like it did the first time.
  17. I was sleeved 9 years ago. I lost 110kg over the first 2 years and maintained weight at 67kg for 3 years. Then, I was put on ssri and anti psychotic meds and gained 10 kilos in the first 3 weeks. I went on to gain back 70 kilos of what I lost over the last few years. My psyc. put me on metformin to minimise the weight gain (even though I’m not diabetic) and my weight stopped going up for about the last year now. I have just come back to the community today as I recently committed to losing this weight again. I’m pleased to hear a previous comment here that says that people have lost weight on mental health meds successfully, I’m on the wagon and going for goal.

    Sleep study - CPAP machine

Oh and also... cpap compliance after surgery is important because sleep apnea if untreated can prevent weight loss. So make sure when you get your cpap you use it! Best wishes.
  23. Hello everyone. I am wondering, on average, when weight loss stopped after gastric sleeve surgery? Thank you.
  24. No bald patches, per se, but I had new growth on one upper temple, and nearly a bald other temple. Rest of head is covered fully, but so much thinner and drier. Still trying to figure out how to style to maximize the hair I have. Pre-op I had long, thick, shiny hair…but I gladly trade it for the weight loss! I didn’t get full protein/supplements till around two months post-op due to vomiting, so hopefully others will do better!

    Worried and regretting…

yes - buyer's remorse is common the first month or so. Many of us have been there. also - yep - many women mention their hormones being out of whack the first few weeks or months. In addition to weird moods, many often experience weird menstrual cycles. All that eventually stabilizes taste & appeal of food - many of us lose that for awhile. It's common to lose your sense of hunger for up to a year after surgery (a small minority never get it back it all - honestly, I wish I would have been one of them - it would be so much easier to lose & maintain my loss!). It's very weird at first, but you get used to it. My hunger came back at five months out, and things got much harder then. It is SO easy to lose weight when you're never hungry and couldn't give a flip about food. Take FULL advantage of that!! It'll never in your life be easier to lose weight than it is right now when you're not hungry and don't care about food!! Just make sure you're eating and drinking enough to maintain your health. So I know this sounds weird, so enjoy that "feature" while it lasts and milk it for all it's worth - because it your hunger and "food appeal" will almost certainly return at some point this year. drinking - you'll be able to drink a lot more as time goes on. I can drink normally again. But for now, just do whatever it takes to get the required amount of fluids in, even if that means sipping all day. Dehydration can land a lot of people back in the hospital...so keep at it!
