I'm so sorry that happened. And I know how much hurtful words from your spouse can really shake one at their core. Could you find a marriage counselor who does online video calls? I think therapy is the only viable option to get to the root of what's going on. Or maybe a bariatric surgery support group for partners. Someone had mentioned that he may feel threatened by your weight loss. That is not an uncommon problem; especially if the partner is insecure. Maybe try to build up his security. Men normally respond to verbal praise. For example, in the first few weeks after my surgery, my husband was a very grumpy person to be around. When I commented on it, he blew up and said how overwhelmed he felt with work, taking care of a large portion of the home responsibilities, that it's been all about me and my recovery, and a few other things. I took some time to process, and in the right timing, I thanked him for all he's doing and told him that it did not go unnoticed. I reassured him and built him back up. Since then, things have been going really well. Your therapist may have some other ideas.

Anyone In Their 40's Get Rid Of Saggy Skin/cellulite With Exercise?
Atomic*Girl replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I wouldn't worry about scars in the long term. My lap band was 2005. I needed to hunt to find those scars. Yet my rny scars looks so obvious and angry. I know they will fade in time Not the bariatric scars, ones from any tummy tuck or body lift... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I completely understand ! I have been the victim of grazing and sipping beverages that I shouldn't be. I like to food tracker app on my phone because it allows me to see my intake and protein intake. I have found a company called bariatric choice, they sale high protein snack food...I haven't purchased anything from them yet because it's expensive and my budget is tight, but they have some great options tht sound pretty good. And I have Earned that the more water I drink the less I eat and when I just have to have that crunch I eat celery with peanut butter or carrots and cucumber with some light dressing

July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op
darcyjae replied to Mom_of_Chaos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great work! @MeowAMR! Iโm in a similar spot. Down 49 lbs since 7/30, and just 11 from the one hundreds, so very much hoping to get there by the new year. I can see a big difference in my shape and clothes. I had my Bariatric appointments the week before last and everything came back normal. I feel like Iโve been more tortoise than hare in my losing, but my PA and nutritionist were thrilled. And honestly, I am not sure Iโd want to be losing any more quickly. I already feel like Iโve got some bagginess in the skin of my thighs, arms and under my chin/jaw. Hoping my collagen can keep up. -
I did not have any tests with the psych, just guided conversation about my issues and how the bariatric team can help me be successful. I will have one more psyche appointment just before my surgery. I was told today it would be sometime between November 14th and Thanksgiving. I already had a liver ultrasound,, but I guess I will just keeping following instructions and see how this plays out.

How many vets are actually AT goal and staying there?
CowgirlJane replied to clk's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I have been maintaining within a few pounds of my goal since Feb 2013. It's hard My goal is not super skinny either. Part of the reason I picked it, is I felt it was more realistic to maintain and because the bariatric surgeon and 3 plastic surgeons all advised me to stop right here. I would like to weigh 10-15# less, but frankly I don't know if I could do it without really dieting. Then, I fear I couldn't maintain. so, I will probably only lose about 4-5 pounds with the plastic surgery so I will be staying in the 150s. Works for me - I am a solid "medium" and you know all I ever wanted was to be normal. -
Letter to Human Resources (long)
sramos89 replied to ArcusX's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My insurance covered my surgery after my deductible. I work at a satellite office and don't see our HR people but once or twice a year. I made a point when I was at the office in January (4 months post op) to go to the HR office and tell all of them about my surgery and how it has changed my life, how loyal I felt to our organization and what a better job I have been doing because of my increased self esteem since my weight loss. I am sure they think I am a total nut, but I kinda got emotional talking about it. I told them the reason I wanted them to know all this is because I know every year they are faced with making cuts and changes and how important it was to not exclude bariatric surgery to save money. They all kinda looked surprised and happy, I don't think they get thanked very often but I wanted to ensure this amazing benefit was there for others, I would have never been able to have this without my insurance. I know how life changing it is. -
Complication insurance for Mexico self pay
Kindle replied to Kindle's topic in Insurance & Financing
I went to Obesity Contol Center. It is an International Center of Excellence in TJ. My surgeons were Dr. Ariel Ortiz and Dr. Arturo Martinez, both Bariatric Surgeons of Excellence. Dr. Ortiz is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has actually taught laparoscopic surgery technique in the US and Canada. Fantastic care while there - the entire staff is dedicated exclusively to bariatric surgical care, they were friendly, incredibly helpful, skilled, and spoke perfect English. The followup communication is also great. They have been available for any and all questions I had both before and after surgery via phone and email, including the surgeons, cardiologist, nutritionist, anesthesiologist, office manager and followup Doctor. Much easier to get a hold of than the US surgeon that removed my gall bladder! My PCP has taken care of my postop bloodwork. That's really the only followup care I've needed. My OB/Gyn actually offered to do it, too. -
My PB's have evolved to vomiting. I can feel all those stomachs squeezing. Lots of force. So I've tried to be careful. Weird thing is...sometimes I get that sour taste in the corner of my jaw...lets me know the food is being totally rejected (and it varies from time to time, what the food is) and I better head to the bathroom. Okay, so the good news..I think. I weighed this morning....198!! Now, I am wondering when I start adding food today what the scale will do so I'm not quite willing to believe that I've actually made it below 200. SO, this isn't an official announcement..Next monday will be the truth. I don't want to get my hopes up. But I think it has given me some renewed motivation. I was thinking about this last night intermittently while I was driving home. I decided that a part of me really didn't think it was possible for me to break that 200 barrier. And maybe as a result I stopped trying as hard as I needed. The mental aspect of this journey keeps unfolding!

Promised myself I'd check in more often and just haven't had the time! We're farmers and getting crops in has been a 15-16 hours a day thing for about 10 days now. Then in the middle of it there was a death in the family.....with everything that's been going on, not having any fill, the death, crops and ball games for my 3 boys I haven't exactly been watching anything I've eaten at all. Then, when I got home from the funeral today the surgeon had called to inform me that my insurance no longer covers bariatric anything! This is the same insurance that actually paid for the surgery to begin with!! Guess my husbands policy changed and we didn't think to check on it the bariatric part of it. So I'm guessing that the upper GI that they did to determine the esophagus was dilated wasn't covered. Oh, well, on the brighter side of things, they did cover the surgery so I shouldn't be complaining! Have any of you figured out yet why you over ate to begin with. I'm trying to figure out how to make the most out of my band when they start putting the fills back in . I don't want to screw this up again! Are there any books you've found that relate just to lap-band surgeries that you would recommend? I found the one about Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies but it was about gastric bypass too and not sure if the two food plans are the same. Starting tomorrow I'm going to start exercising again.....maybe that will get my head in the right direction. Juno.....enjoy your baby and all the extra exercise you'll get chasing her (I think I read it was a girl?!?) We were looking back at videos of our boys the other day. The oldest one was almost 5 when the twins started walking.....the house was actually cleaner when they were that age! Seems like the older they get the more messes they make. But still wouldn't trade my 9 year old twins and my 13 (will be 14 years old in a couple of weeks) for nothing in the world!!!

April 2006. Star's contract with the View was not renewed. Was this before Meredith made her announcement or not is unclear. One story says the problem was Star's dropping viewer comments (the donate wedding, not up front about weight loss). Star's side says that Rosie wouldn't come to the show if Star was there. May-June27th...rumors run amuck. June 27th. Star's surprise announcement that she is leaving. Rumor has it that the _hit hit the fan backstage after the show. And her name was really mud with Barbara after People posted the interview on the web saying Star felt fired. Don't you love a good cat fight?!?!!

Well I received my Unjury sample yesterday in the mail and I tried the chicken soup tonight for my "dinner". It does have a much better flavor hands down but I found it tasted pretty salty too but that could just be me. Thanks for the recommendation! Curious, when did anyone use the meal replacement powders? I have samples from both Unjury and Bariatric Advantage. I just cant remember if its pre op or post op usuage? ๐ค

Greetings Sleevers! Well, I don't know if my former employer ever made any changes as a result of my letter. I left the company in July of 2013 and took a job with another company, that as it happens, DID cover bariatric surgery. In May, 2014 I had the RNY bypass surgery. My surgeon changed me from sleeve to bypass due to my GERD; according to him, sleeve makes GERD worse, which was contrary to everything I had read previous. Today, I'm sitting at about 178 pounds, from my high of 290. My lowest was probably about 169. It was expensive having to buy new clothes all the time - especially for work. My sleep apnea went away within about 2 weeks of surgery. When i was done with the GERD meds i had to take post-op for 90 days, it was gone too. My A1C is now normal, as are all my other bloodwork. I'm feeling great and have no regrets. Best

To be clear it is not possible for me to eat and drink at the same time... Since hitting restriction. That was all before I hit restriction and it was with my center of excellence bariatric surgeon's blessing as there was no pouch and no food to wash through a pouch (i.e, open stomach - no restriction). It was small baby sips of water. This gave me a full feeling on much less food. Worked very well as I lost steadily through bandster hell with little exercise but sticking to the calories.

Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...
CathyA replied to soonerorlater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well I had my ankle surgery on Monday, 2/3, and good news it was a lot of damaged tissue causing my problems not damaged ligaments. The surgeon was able to remove the tissue and he said my recovery should go quickly from here. Physical Therapy starts on Monday and I will only be out of work for two weeks, total. Since they had told me to expect a month of no weight bearing, aka no walking, this was all a great relief. I am hoping to be able to begin working out in the next few weeks even if that is being able to start on a treadmill! My weight loss has continued and I have been very conscientious about what I am eating, I am down to 252, although iv fluids from surgery I went back to 254, but I think that will be off by this weekend. The pain has actually had me so nauseated that I have only been able to eat about half of what we normally can so as you can imagine this has been very little! (1/4 of package of oatmeal, 2 1/2 meatballs... these are meals!) Thank goodness I still have protein shakes to fall back on as I am back to two of these a day to keep up my intake. Last night I did manage to eat 2 1/2 oz of ground sirloin with 1/2 oz of low fat cheddar but could barely move after! Please be careful when comparing yourself to others, we are each different and as long as you are steady in your weight loss and following our new way of life, you are on the right road! I have started packing up clothes that I can no longer wear because they literally fall off. I stood up the other day and my pants almost fell completely off, it was awesome. Some of my shirts I can't wear because they fall off my shoulders or expose my bra! I am lucky that in storage I have bins of clothes in sizes down to 16-18 so I went and picked out a whole new wardrobe. The hospital I had my surgery also has a clothing exchange for their bariatric patients so I am bring them everything I can't wear so others can use it on their exciting adventure. It is so awesome to put some of these clothes that I haven't been able to wear in years back on, thank goodness trends come full circle!!! -
Not sure if most of you are aware but BariatricPal.com actually started off in 2003 as LapBandTalk.com! I've had Lap-Band surgery since 2003 and started this community the night I came home from my own Lap-Band surgery. As mentioned in my recent article "Types of Bariatric Surgery: By the Numbers and What It Means" Lap-Band surgery has dropped 86.93% since 2011. There were still 7,310 new bands in 2016. There isn't any perfect WLS. The band has been an awesome tool for me over the last 15 years. I've had minor complications along the way but nothing like the complications I'd have had walking around with an extra 100Lbs.

Intro time: who's new to the group, who's pre-op, & who just recently made it to the loser's bench?
GerryBhoy replied to xoxococojay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, I am Gerry from Edinburgh, Scotland. Just finally got my date through for my first consultation with the bariatric team, 18 months after being referred by my family Doc. Excited and scared Sh*tless in equal measure to be starting out on this journey, but I am only 38 years old, with type 2 diabetes and High blood pressure, so hopefully this will be the first step in improving and prolonging my life. -
My insurance Blue shield of CA paid for 6 months of the Vitamins, bariatric multi, c and Iron, and, Calcium, and b12 by nose. After about 2-3 months I could not tolerate the sweetness of the chewables, so I went to Centrum. My insurance would not cover the shakes, good luck.

Hi all! I'm not a big fan of any of the Bariatric shakes at all. I've come across a brand called Vega that's vegan and is the most tasty to me. I add in collagen bone broth Protein by Dr Axe and it's simply delicious, fat and sugar free and is one the only brands that does not use soy or whey as their source of protein. The added collagen helps with skin and hair issues as well as lubricates the joints for so many extra benefits. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am 72, BMI of 47, planning RnY bypass surgery yet this month, I should find out an exact date 7/17/2018. It will be at Ohio State University Hospital with Bradley J Needleman. the top Dog Bariatric Surgeon. there so I am a lucky lady. Been on this trek since August 2015, many stops and starts, but soon it will be completed and I can start on a future life more healthy, more fit and a lower weight is pretty cool too. Lets share this experience together!๐๐๐๐ท๐ -

Hello, my name is Sarah and I completed all the steps that are required to get bariatric surgery(psych evaluation, classes, nutritionists) and my surgery is scheduled for March 12, 2018. One problem... Iโm having some major second thoughts and fears... Iโve been overweight my whole life and have been 300+pounds my whole adult life. As of right now my family is against it but they donโt know how it feels to feel trapped in this body. I think the overall fear Iโm having is just going under the knife thatโs my biggest fear. As of right now Iโve been hitting the gym 5 to 6 nights a week since January of this year and lost 15 pounds but Iโve tried pretty much every diet out there with no significant results. My doctor who is doing the surgery said I have a possible 2% chance of losing weight the conventional way and keeping it off. My insurance is good but a possible career change very soon may mean this is my only chance to do this surgery. I just need advice Iโm just scared about surgery.... -
