What To Do After You Reach Goal?!

The slower you lose the more you wont have to change at goal. You will have already long been out of diet mode. At least that was true for me. I just do exactly as I did before I reached goal and my weight naturally levelled off at a normal BMI. The main adjustment now is getting used to not being fat and making myself pick up a size 6 in a store because I never think they will fit but they always do. My weight never changes by more than two pounds and I am finally not weighing myself every single day. I never dieted or worked out so I just let my band help me eat less and I gave some real thought to the choices I ate so for me the losing phase and the maintaining phase arent that different.

    Unsuccessful

we will all get through this together! atleast we have all started our weight loss journey. slow and steady wins the race

    Unsuccessful

I was banded on March 8, 2011 and have lost 70 pounds. This was not my dream of waking up a size 6 but respectable I think! lol Could I have lost more by now? Certainly. There are things I can work on and need to work on but there has to be a middle ground between living and weight loss! I could not maintain exercising for 2 hours a day for very long. Everyone is different and we need to focus on what makes us happy! I can compare myself with the great "losers" out there but it will not aid in my weight loss and will probably just make me want chocolate! lol You said it best-we can all support each other (successes and setbacks). I am always looking for more support on this journey

    Polycystic Ovaries

I am not sure about it either but I had my period 2 days after surgery and I haven't had one in almost a YEAR! I never thought I would be excited about shark week. My surgeon said that the weight loss will definitely help with PCOS.

How much is weight vs. age?

The weight should help quite a bit. I've been able to greatly reduce the amount of perscription meds I'm on. I was taking blood pressure medicines twice a day and now am only taking one at a lower dose. I also was able to stop taking lasix and I lowered my dose of chlorestrol meds. I hope to be able to completely drop my bp and chlorestrol with more weight loss.

    Fat vs Not Fat Dating/Sex

I am a good one to answer this question. I freely admit that the reason I wanted the band was so I could get a boy friend. I was on several dating sites for a long time with no luck. The guys that I was attracted to were not attracted to me. The guys I met that wanted to explore a possible relationship with me, I had no desire to date. I was tired of sending my picture out and having guys stop writing. When I lost the weight, I met my bf on match.com. He is really into fitness and is a long distance runner. I know we would have never gotten together if I was still so overweight. We would not be able to do the things that we do now and both enjoy because when I was so overweight, I didn't enjoy outdoor activities. Things will change when you lose the weight. Like Kat said, you'll have more confidence and life will be much more enjoyable!

    Birth Control options (Nuva Ring?)

It's the best BC in the world. I got on it about a month after the FDA approved it, so around 6 years. I'll never go on any other form of birth control again. No side effects, no forgetting pills, no break through bleeding (a v. big problem for me) and I didn't gain weight on it. I can't say enough good things about it.

    Birth Control options (Nuva Ring?)

I've used Nuva Ring for the past 3 years because pills make me crazy because of the hormones! Nuvaring is low hormone and I love it. You can download a program (Nuvatime) from their website that will send you a reminder of when to take it out and put it in. I'm not having any trouble with it so far. It does take some practice to insert it, but it's not bad. I'm losing weight fast, so I guess it doesn't effect me like that.
  9. I'm having a heck of a time figuring this out. I've never been on any form of birth control, DH is the only man I've been with that way and we've only gotten pregnant once, this past July and then I miscarried. Well, the social worker at my surgeon's office said I have to wait 18 months before TTC again after I get the band. :faint:I HATE that, but I'll do it just so everything turns out healthy. I can't figure out what to do. pills will NOT work for me - I'm terrible at remembering that stuff and I know I'll get pregnant if remembering everyday is up to me. I've been looking into the Nuvaring, but I'm really nervous to take any kind of birth control because of the weight-gain thing. Does anybody have the Nuva Ring and is still losing weight? I hate this kind of stuff. I haven't even seen a regular gyno since 2004 when I got fed up with all the infertility testing and quit going. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum - I wasn't sure where to put it.
  10. I read an article about Matt & Susie.. He did gain back about half his weight. Susie gained some back too, but also had a baby. I'm sure once you leave the ranch it's hard to dedicate as much time to exercise. It would be nice.. but... not exactly realistic! I love the show too, but I get annoyed sometimes when they get on that scale and act like 3-4 lbs isn't enough of a weight loss.

    One-derland! Need new shorts!

Good job!! I did most of my "losing weight sizes" off of ebay. Cheaper and you can resell them. Although I had kept most of my "growing" sizes so I was able to just shrink the closet as needed.

    Pre op diet

Mi believe he is doing this to get some weight off before my surgery, but honestly, it doesn't make a huge amount of sense to me!

    Pre op diet

What are your number of reasons? I'm struggling to loose the initial weight and my bypass surgery date is February 8. For New Years I'm planning on starting the pre-op diet until surgery date with a goal of loosing 20 lbs until my date. I have a bmi of 41

    Lied To

Has anyone ever been lied to regarding the complications with the band? I was looking back at my lap-band journal to the notes I had taken when I was first looking at, and shortly after I got the band, and I feel like people were not exactly truthful, for instance, about complications. I feel like I need to vent a little and share the things that were told to me, 'cause I think it's unethical to misinform patients. 1. I was told that it's really rare for bands to have to be removed, although I see a disturbing number of surgeries here, to remedy slippage, infection, kinks, port repositioning etc. 2. When I asked about the port flipping, quite a few places said they'd never heard of it, and that the patients from whom I'd heard of this, must be mistaken. 3. When I asked about the port sticking out when people lose their weight, my surgeon said that would not happen, but I've already seen pictures of people whose ports show. 4. When I went to the fill doctor that my surgeon sent me, I asked if the doctor would be seeing me and they said yes, when I saw him in the hall and asked him a question, he said I could only be seen by his assistants, as I was a liability since my surgery was done by another doctor. 5. When I was researching clinics to do the surgery, a representative from NWWLS in Everett sent me gristly pictures of a supposed counterfeit gastric band that had been put in by a Mexican doctor and removed at the NWWLS. I google image searched the name of the image and found 3 other websites for bariatric surgeons claiming they'd removed the same counterfeit band themselves. I wish I could find the picture... it was scary and unprofessional. Anyway, those are the things I was told that were a little misleading. Have you guys ever been told stuff like that?

About 20 lbs up after baby

Start back on your post op guidelines... and work your way to your goal weight. Then go back into a maintainence program.

    One-derland! Need new shorts!

Hey Stitchy - Congratulations on onderland! I was in the same boat as you. None of my clothes fit very well and i didn't want to buy new ones this summer. I finally had to buy some clothes this weekend. I was in definate need of a bra. The "girls" were permanently visiting my bellybutton. I was amazed at the difference just a well fitting bra made. When I got a couple of pairs of pants and shirts, my husband and a few friends who saw me said the more fitted clothes make a huge difference and they could really tell how much weight I have lost. Actually, for the first time since my surgery, I could tell my body is smaller as well.

    Banded on Monday 4/30

Congrats....I was banded on March 28th....I lost 20 pounds by April 27th...Since then I have not gotten a weight. I have slowed a little...You can work hard if you want to. I have found out--it's more of a mind thing. I live in an area where there is about 3 hills to go up. I kept saying--"Oh my God--I will never make it"...I stopped about 6 times the first time...Then 5 times...Finally I am into my 5th week of riding. I can stop now twice each time going up. The big thing for me is when people laugh. I like that--it pushes me harder. I ride 3 to 5 miles a day. The reason I know--I put a speedometer on the bike--so I could not make distances up in my head and be honest with "myself".. Funny thing--A dog bit me 2 weeks ago on the same street while riding. Then I fell off the bike--hands first--due to me hitting the wrong brake..lol Guess what--I am doing this ride at least 4 days a week. I do other routes on the other 2 days. This week--I have taken 3 days off from riding. But last night--May-8th-07--I played tennis with my 2 sons...Last thing--I will turn 50 next month (6-21)--hey--I am doing great with my lap bading..
  18. Yeah the american biggest loser is the same as the aus one here, the fact that they don't have to go to work, look after children or have any other responsibilities and can work out all day every day so that they loose the weight, well no wonder they loose the huge amount, here in aus the only one that I have seen that has kept the weight off and everything is the guy that won the first season (think we're up to season 3 or 4 now) and he had plastic surgery and everything, and then you see the others that are now the spokespeople for the weight loss things like jenny craig, weight watchers etc. Also I dunno if any of you know this but I was told by my dietician and from everything I've encountered is true - those that do loose the weight on their own only about 3% will keep the weight off long term - and then the others gain it back, thats why i decided with the band, i didnt wanna be that 90%+ that was I lost 50 kgs and gained 100 back
  19. I also love the show, I watch it every week and use it as a way to motivate myself to try and work harder with my workout. I know the more I try to workout the more quicker the weight will come off. the day after they walked that hill for 14 hrs. I tried to walk some smaller hills near my home. I tried to increase my miles just a little more. I always seem to have a better workout on wednesday because of the show.
  20. Well Oprah did a show (a just saw a clip not the whole show) bringing back some of the past contestants including season 2's BL Matt. He had gained back almost all his weight. His runner-up Sussie (who he married) was not as buff as she was when she left the ranch.

Rocko Great weight loss but the ear ... You MUST go back to your surgeon as hearing loss CAN be a complication of anesthesia. There's plenty on this on the net - here's just one link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=3316458&dopt=Abstract Good luck with getting it sorted and please let us know how you get on.

    Upside/Downside

Rocko: Great job on the weight loss!!! The hearing loss problem sounds very familiar to me. My Mom, about a year or so ago, had the same thing happen. Not to be a bearer of bad news, but she didn't regain her hearing. I will ask her what her official diagnosis was when I talk to her next time. She was fitted with some type of hearing device that somehow transmits the sound from her bad ear to her good ear and it makes her feel like she is able to hear out of the bad ear. I really don't understand how it all works. Hopefully you will be able to get a solution to the problem soon. Always love reading your posts - hang in there!! Robin

p.s. how do you add the weight ticker to your post
  25. Well Guys! I haven't been on here in a long time... Sorry... Time sure does fly and I've been staying so busy... On Tuesday it will be a year since I was sleeved! October 12, 2009. 90lbs lost! I am a completely different person. I still have a ways to go. Probably the last 4 months I have just been holding my own, which I know isn't good, but hey at least I haven't been gaining and it is possible to maintain right? I have went from a size 22w to a size 11/12! I just bought me a pair of jeans that were an 11 the other day! How exciting! Now I do need plastic surgery. Especially on my arms and thighs. Hope I can get that done before long. Also my gallbladder is full of stones. My doctor recommends taking it out, but right now I'm not going to worry about it since it's not bothering me... I know... I do need to get it out... I don't know if it is a result of getting the sleeve or losing weight. Wish I knew... I am a missionary living in Nicaragua. I know I should have lost even more weight that I have, but my life is so hectic. I have a 3 yr. old daughter, plus another 12 children living in our home. We have a children's home... I actually have 5 babies that are in diapers! Life is great! It's worth it! Where are all you other guys that had your surgeries around my time? I don't see you all on here. I see Tiffykins! She has been a role model for me from the beginning. I notice that I can eat more than most people that have had the sleeve. I don't know why. I guess it's not that bad of a thing if I don't gain weight. I still want to lose about 25 or 30lbs. I need to get back on track. Time to finish this!
