    skipped purée stage

I do not think it is necessary to have a puree stage. The instructions I received at my facility had only three stages. Liquids... Soft foods... Then regular foods. It could be based on the length of the stages.. As mine was 2 weeks of liquids then 2 weeks or longer of soft foods only.

    still sick

I want to my doctor's yesterday and she is going do one of three choices. Take it out, go in to make sure that it is in the right position, and or take it out and have gastric done. I am going with the second choice. We had done x rays, cat scan I have been in the hospital three times because of needing IV fluids along with other testing. I just hope that this works. I do not hope this works I pray it does. There are some wrist involve. If anyone has been thought what i am going though please let me know. I can keep liquid downs as long as I am not stuck. If I get stuck than I can not even get liquids down. I get stuck at least three times a week if not more. I have not had a fill.
  3. So, here is the deal and I have read a lot of posts about strictures and I don't think this is the issue, but would love to hear from others. My surgeon used a 54 French bogie. So, that being the case, you would think I would have no issues getting food or Water down. I was sleeved on April 16. I am still struggling with eating and drinking. So far since 7:00 a.m. I have had one 12oz. Syntrax Protein drink made with water and ice. I did not blend the ice, just added ice to keep it cold as it takes me so long to drink it. At 10:00 I was hungry, so I got my tuna with mayo mashed to death out and started to eat it. I have had 3 very small forkfuls, chewed to dust before swallowing and I feel like it is stuck between my throat and my stomach. If I wait 15 to 20 mins, the feeling starts to subside until I decide to take another small forkful and then it starts all over again. I am not vomiting, but I feel like things don't want to pass, or they don't want to pass easily. Has anyone had a stricture or narrowing without vomiting? Do any of my fellow April sleevers feel this way still and maybe my stomach is just not healed yet and is still really swollen? Thanks much. I appreciate it. Karen

    Long Island Doctors Wanted

Dr Gadaleta. Had surgery 3 weeks ago. Pre op was great and I consider the surgery a success. He is my hero. Close to the city.
  5. It figures my "big" questions always come at or close to 5 on a Friday and I don't want to bother anyone at the surgeon's office if most here say it's not a biggie. Not sure if this is a problem. In 3 days I start pureed (OMG- cant wait for the ricotta thing!!). So I dug out this amazing blender for Protein etc. shakes I bought years ago and whipped up a concoction- vanilla RTD shake, some greek yogurt, ice, pumpkin pie spice, tsp. of Peanut Butter and a 1/4 a banana. It has been (haha- 2 hours later) amazing! But... as a was gulping (for some reason liquids go down fine- I know I need to slow my roll) I tasted a piece and realized banana has these tiny pulpy seedy pieces. They were extremely fine and did get pulverized through the blender. I had lots of it already. The thing that freaks me out is one day this week someone said something about accumulated stuff like that getting stuck in the staple line and causing an infection. Do you think I have anything to fear? I've been so "good." I read about people going to soft foods almost immediately and can't understand that, however that makes me think if they "made it" doing that-- I'm probably fine??? Also, I'm not having any liquid restriction so this shake was really a lot --- since I didn't feel a need to stop how did you know when to? Calorie wise I'm still prob. around 500 a day but getting in at least the 70 grams and all liquid- easily. Thanks for any knowledge or even if you know a place on here that explains this process a little more fully.
  6. Oh no! I wonder if the plain one has an after taste. Looking for more natural powders. I'm still pre op (2 more weeks) but I'm proactively searching for a good natural powder.

    Frustrated

My surgery is next week and I had a question for ya'll post sleevers. Are you feeling hungry on your liquid only diet? They say the surgery removes the hunger hormone, is that feeling true? Did you experience any vomiting post op?

    Frustrated

Sometimes a little bit. But it's more a desire to be eating what I can't have. Sort of a head hunger. I was very nauseous the first two days after surgery and did dry heave once, which was very painful. I didn't want to drink anything at all, or even look at it, until day 3.

    Selfish? Work wise.

Wish I had taken longer. I took 2 weeks and have been so tired and exhausted after just going back part time. I'm getting the cold shoulder from some of my coworkers because it was considered elective. I'm still glad I did it for me though. The worst that could happen is getting the cold shoulder at your work, and they will get over it soon. You have to look at it as doing this for your health, elective or not. I say don't feel guilty, treat yourself first!
  10. Hello Bama Folks.... I need help with answers to some questions! I have on more month to go with my BC/BS PPO six month doctor visits. I have my other requirements scheduled... (psych, sleep study, misc. test). I am getting excited and also nervous at the same time... I have actually started thinking that I don't need the surgery and I can do it on my on... Yes, I know- that is crazy!!! I guess it's presurgery nerves. At any rate, I hope some of you can answer the following questions for me: 1. I know I pay my insurance co-pay upfront, but... do I also pay the percent not covered by BC/BS or do they bill me? 2. If I have a terrible case of sleep apnea, will they not do my surgery? 3. I have an enlarged liver and the nurse at Dr. Scmitt's office said I needed to lose 40 pounds before the surgery. I have not.. will they not do the surgery until I lose the weight? 4. All I read about is Dr. Miles doing your banding surgeries... has anyone used Dr. Schmitt? Is there something with him I don't know about? I know I can contact the office on several of these questions, but,I wanted to ask "one of us" first. Thanks so much and I hoping for my first summer, in a very long time, of wearing shorts! Thanks so much and God Bless!

    7 Months Post Op

Hi Lidi -- YES ME TOO!!!!! OMG! You and I are on the same boat, ugh! I also crave sweets, crave chocolate! But let's try to control ourselves by snacking on Protein stuff, no carbs and no sweets or chocolate (this after I ate an entire Kit Kat bar last night). Shame on me! I have not lost anything in the past 4 weeks due to this, I think mine is from anxiety. But that's it, I'm telling myself -- and it feels good to write it down right now right here, I HAVE to stop and go back to being good. I will go home today after work and get rid of all bad things I'm tempted to snack on. Let's try to be strong together and not give in to temptation LOL. We've worked so hard to reach our 60+ pounds off, right? Good luck my friend, let's try our hardest to continue being good starting this minute!
  13. My surgery is the 8th also! Luckily I only have a week on liquids. Not looking forward to it either!

    Laziness, guilt, and dread

Hi Cedybug I just had sleeve surgery on October 3. I told my husband to just come and visit me after the surgery. I got dropped off at the hospital by a friend. Personally.. I didn't feel like i wanted a lot of people around me. But a few hours of post surgery help were useful, especially for getting showered and dressed, and taking tiny walks. I was a bit short of breath and had a hard time talking to people. The pre-op diet was not as bad as I thought, although it was certainly the toughest part so far (except for pain meds for me). I got the "keto-flu" on the second day and it lasted for another two days, with headaches and a bit of grumpiness and miserableness. Just like the flu. Honestly, after two days I didn't feel hungry at all, although I seemed to think about food a lot and dream about food. But the dramatic drop in carbs does amazing things to the body! I haven't thrown up or felt nauseated once. I was bloated and did a big happy dance when I had my first post-op poo. Yay! I am not hungry at all and its an incredible feeling of freedom. I haven't had any social occasions to deal with yet, but I think I will just order some broth or skim milk. It will be enough. I know I will get some odd looks which is why I'm avoiding any socializing for as long as possible. I'm not sure if my story helps you.. but the takeaway is that the pre-op nerves and diet were worse for me that immediate post-op, and they weren't even really that bad. I'm really excited about the changes to come. If you have come this far, and taken all the right counselling steps, you are probably ready.

    Ewww this is horrible

My surgery was April 20 and I threw up everything for the first week. It's gotten better but I still can mostly only tolerate soups and liquids. It has gotten better but it feels like forever since I have eaten something that tastes good that doesn't make me nauseous.
  17. Hi AnneB, I too was banded on 11/29/10. I was given the go ahead to eat solids 3 weeks post op and though I still had no hunger I ate freely the week of Christmas. I had lost about 25 lbs, but gained back about 7 during that week. Luckily I had my 1st fill of 3 ccs on 12/27/10, though I still didn't notice much change in restriction. I recomitted to myself to get back on track and am doing much better. I still don't have any hunger pains which is awesome! My surgeon keeps stressing, don't eat if you aren't hungry, so I eat very little as I am not hungry....ever. I get head hungry and think I want food, but I know it's not my stomach that is hungry so I stay away from the kitchen at those times. I do eat lean meat every few days to get some protein and I noticed that I now have some restriction when I eat it. It took about a week for me to notice any change from the fill. I start Spring classes Tuesday and am looking forward to keeping my mind more on my studies than on food I also will be getting my 2nd fill on Wednesday, so I am curious to see the difference in restriction. I have not weighed myself again since I recieved my 1st fill and am waiting until I go in again Wednesday to see if I am doing better. It's great to talk to someone who had surgery the same day as I did Feel free to message me with any comments or questions. Good luck to you!!!
  18. One of the top predictors of long term success with WL is tracking your food/exercise etc. I weigh myself daily - I no longer am swayed if I am at the same weight for a while, as the trend continues downward - work through those stalls. I track calories, Protein, carbs, fat, and Fiber. I also keep track of my liquid intake, my Vitamins, meds (very few now) - I do have a myfitnesspal login but I use good old paper journals, and track exercize/walking with Runkeeper. Carbs and Water consumption seem to have the most significant impacts on how I feel, and how much I lose. I am a pound and a smidge from Onederland - a place I have been hanging out at for a couple of weeks (also a serious set point from my long ago past) Looking forward to seeing a 1 in front, rather than a 2...waay better than the 3
  19. :tongue_smilie:Hello everyone. I had my first fill on 3/5/08. No issues..I even have some restriction then on Monday evening I started to feel very sick to my stomach. It is kinda like a roller coaster one second I am fine the next I am sick to my stomach. I spoke to my nurse and she stated that if I am drinking and eating without any issues she does not feel that it is an issue with my band. I just don't know and I hate this feeling. Any suggestions would be great!

    Travel after Surgery

Your body is most susceptible the first two weeks after your surgery. The last thing you should be doing is traveling long distances. You need to be close enough in the event that you have to see your surgeon. You should be mobile to keep the blood flowing but not that mobile. If you're not mobile you put yourself at risk for blood clots. I'm about two weeks post op and I ended up with an infection yesterday. God forbid I wasn't close to home and couldn't get the right care I needed. Your surgeon knows you better then any other doctor at this point and he/she would know exactly what to do. Be cautious. In the event you suffer from any type of infection or whatever else the band is in a very sensitive location and you could easily die if you're not careful. Just relax for a while before taking any big trips.

    Ewww this is horrible

I can relate to all the spitting, nausea, foamy throw up, slim throw up, all around throwing up. I was sleeved on May 4th, could not keep anything down. I was given a total of three banana bags and discharged on May 6th with orders of a visiting nurse for two weeks to administer 2000ml IV's. I have tried to as of yesterday to follow the full liquid diet, I ate two bites of Greek yogurt and had a horrible bout of throwing up and later on in the day I tried two bites of mashed potatoes with nothing in them but made with milk, again same thing with horrible throwing up. I know it will get better but goodness when your going through it!...... It's hard because we just don't know what our stomachs will tolerate. Today I have blended a Premier protein shake which has gone down okay. Wishing everyone well, this hurdle will pass!

    Ewww this is horrible

I had to go in and get 2 bags of fluids and a banana bag the first week. It helped a lot. I only threw up a few times after that and then I started to tolerate food/water a lot better. I also have to take the prilosec 2ce a day or else i wake up in the middle of the night with what feels like chest pains but is probably heart burn. I still can't drink the powdered Protein drinks, they gross me out and makes me nauseous. I have tried premixed Proteins like muscle milk and pure protein which i can tolerate. I usually get the muscle milk with 40 grams of protein and it takes me about 3 sittings in the day to get down the whole thing. It does have 220 calories but when I couldn't keep anything down 220 calories with 40 grams of protein is not too bad. If it seems too thick I have mixed a little skim milk with it. Good Luck! I hope you start feeling better!
  24. Am having severe pain when I eat but it is there even with drinking! Anybody else? I am 5 weeks out and it just started yesterday.
  25. Hi, I have just joined these forums and this is my first time posting, I hope I don;t do anything wrong! On 14th May 2014 I was given a Sleeve by Dr Mannur at Homerton Hospital, London, UK. Prior to the pre op diet I weighed 34 Stone 4lb at the age of 25 and things were desperate, I was hugely struggling with day to day life. I followed the 'Milk Diet' for 31 days and on the day of Surgery I weighed exactly 31 stone. I had great success with the sleeve and before too long I weighed 21 stone 4 lb and I was happy. I went away to America on a holiday and over indulged on the bad things. I thought it was ok as I would get back into the swing of things when I got home, but I didn't. My weight crept back up to 29 stone and I felt hopeless. I knew it was time for change so sorted my head out and got back into the swing of things. The weight was coming back off and I joined Slimming World for the extra support. Then, in 2017 my surgeon told me that he wanted to perform a DS on me. I was against that as I had read up about it and personally didn't feel comfortable. He then suggested a Bypass which I agreed to. I had the surgery last week (17th April 2018) and on the day of surgery I weighed 24 stone. I had a different surgeon this time, Dr John Loy. My big question is what will my diet be like in 6 weeks time when I am back on solid food? I find plenty of information from people that have had a Sleeve or Bypass - but not both! I am hugely excited for my future, but I want to prepare myself for my new life and exactly what it will be like. Thank you for any help you can provide and sorry for the long post!
