    Drinking while eating...

I'm only 7 weeks out, but my surgeon's rules are no drinking with meals forever, because then you tend to feel less full and eat more, and you can eat around the sleeve and stop losing/start gaining weight. Not drinking with meals was the thing I was most concerned about before surgery but I've found it very easy to be compliant.
  2. @@csg, I was a major binge eater....mostly depended on my state...was I sad bored, happy? Everything revolved around eating! I agree with @@KateP you listen to your body and you definitely have to eat slower...so it does help! Where food once filled some weird void that I thought I needed, it no longer does. @@JustWatchMe talking to someone and finding what exactly is behind the over eating in the first place is great advice!! Also congrats to all of you and your weight loss and life style change accomplishments! You are all an inspiration! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and goals. I enjoy hearing others stories and I love knowing what worked for everyone!
  3. I am seeing Dr next week to see if it is a stricture. I am hoping it resolves itself. Honestly, it is helping me with weight loss but I know whatever is happening ain't supposed to, so Dr. visit is warranted.

    Under BMI

Sorry Mom, I just cannot imagine someone telling you to gain weight to pay for surgery. It struck me as weird and off popped my mouth. Maybe there is more to this such as severe health problems? Make a good informed decision and good luck!
  5. Welcome to the Week 3 Stall. 90% of WLS patients experience it. Now it's your turn! Trust in the program. Continue to follow your plan, get your protein and water in, take your vitamins, advance through your food stages, and walk as much as possible. You will lose weight.

Not allowed to lose or gain pre-op?

@SouthernPhoenix WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME can't tell if insurance has already approved you if (hopefully) they have - your starting BMI is what counts for insurance - if you loose more weight now it won't effect anything - the insurance refers to the first #s given by the dr (ie 40.6 and startingweight If you have NOT been approved yet, your right, you must maintain 40.6, if you go below that # you might not qualify since you have no commorbities check everything out - one way or the other i'm sure you'll figure things out, and all will be fine with the world☺️ August here you come!!!! good luck bud kathy

Pre surgery 6 mth required diet

I had to do the same thing. I'm with BCBS, and they have a Wellness program in which a nurse will coach you through the 6-month weight management program. Proof that you were in weight loss program like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig for 6 months counts. There has to be proof. So, check to see if your insurance provider has a similar program. 8. I reached out to my bariatric care team, who was made aware of my visit to the ER last Tuesday and said the normal oral tablet medication would be fine. Here is my communication to them today, and their reply. Me: So, the response was lacking, since a number of my concerns (medication absorption, weight stall, not being able to hit my nutrient goals) were not addressed. I will assume positive intent and say they have probably dealt with dozens upon dozens of people with concerns/fears/complaints post-op that do not amount to anything, so perhaps I've been lumped in that category. We'll see what the doctor says today (he's a rheumatologist) although he may just refer me back to my PCP or the ER (in which case you all have permission to say "I told you so!") I'm going to ask for blood work too just to ensure I'm not septic, and to see where my WBC is.
  9. I've looked through some other past posts, mostly 3-5+ years ago, and Googled to my fingers were numb, so I'm going to post this here and see if anyone has thoughts/suggestions. I'm just about 6-weeks post op, great weight loss, and was cruising right along until last Tuesday 9/7/21. I ended up in the ER for what I thought was a blood clot in my right leg. After a sonar, they assured me I had no clot, but I did have moderate cellulitis. The doctor put me on generic Bactrim 800 2x/day, and Cefalexin 500 x4/day, for 7 days. I have had cellulitis once before pre-op, in the opposite leg, and was on a much smaller treatment of antibiotics (just the Bactrim), and within 3 days (out of the 7 day treatment) it was practically gone! So, when this past Friday rolls around and my right leg isn't better at all I start to freak out b/c it's been 4 days of double the amount of antibiotics I've had for the same issue in the past, and when I put my sock on it still cause me to "yelp" in pain, not to mention the entire shin/left calf in hot and swollen. I call my PCP and he graciously humors me and puts me on the Oral Liquid version of Bactrim, for 10 days b/c I think the tablets aren't being absorbed. So, I've now had 6 doses of the Bactrim Liquid antibiotic, and I'm on my last day of Cefalexin, but really only feel like the leg is maybe, 10-15% better than it was a week ago? I will say that I do not have a fever, so I don't think I'm septic or anything, but it's getting in the way of my exercise and weight loss during the peak period of time when I should be working towards losing as much as possible. Should it still be this bad? Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions or things I should talk to my PCP or bariatric surgeon about? Do you think it will just take longer and I should hold my horses and take a chill pill? 😅 Thanks for your time and thoughts everyone. -Josh
  10. I'm having surgery oct 10th and that's my biggest fear to sabotage myself and gain it all back again. Get help now before the numbers start creeping further up. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. First, how many started with the belly pooch and had a great deal of skin leftover from the weight loss? My doctor thinks I will have some to deal with. Did you get surgery to get rid of it? If yes, was that difficult/expensive? Second, I have D cup breasts and actually kinda like them - how much breast fat did you lose post surgery? I am not letting that worry me or anything, but I have had these my whole adult life and It would be strange to not - you know? Thank you!
  12. I'm not sure with surgery - I think it REALLY varies based on the woman. I haven't seen cup size change gaininh weight or losing weight. Band size changes for me. Breast cancer runs rampant in my family, I'm debating getting mine chopped and replaced anyway.
  13. When I was 19 I had a breast reduction. And I loved my new size (full c). But then I had kids and gained weight and my breasts have grown up to a D (maybe even DD). One of the things I'm looking forward to about losing weight is hopefully getting my boobs back down to the size they were after my reduction 10 years ago. So, I'm wondering what the outcome has been for all of you ladies who have lost weight. How much did you weigh and what was your cup size before surgery? How quickly did your breasts start to shrink? And what weight and cup size are you now? Thanks in advance ladies! Oh, and for the guys that snuck in here to read the "Ladies Only" question about boobs (and we know you're in here ) .... shame on you.

    Whats happening

Everyone's weight fluctuates daily. You can and will retain fluids from medications, mentrual cycles, sodium input, carb input and the weather. No big deal. tmf

    Whats happening

Happened to me too. At 4 weeks to 6 weeks post op gained 2 pounds and kept them for 2 weeks and then got my first full an lost 5 pounds. So normal to gain!
  16. I've noticed the tickers on people's posts and checked into them. Then I saw where one person said she had no goal weight. And I realized that I didn't have one either. I am 228 pounds now. My highest weight was 236. My first goal is to be below 200. My next goal is to be 179 or lower. I haven't been that thin in 20 years. At this time I feel like I cannot dream of being below 179. I've tried to lose weight for so long that it seems like an impossible goal to not only go below 179 but to stay below 179. The idea is overwhelming. So for right now I'm going to take baby steps. I'll worry about 179 when I get there.
  17. Well Im on an my 21 day preop diet its 6 carnation shakes a day.Im on my 6th day and havent cheated once. My doc wants me to lose 20 lbs. My ? is if I dont cheat and lose that much weight and a few days before surgery have one last meal.(not anything and everything I want but like a filet mignon or some crab and thats it) will that mess up my liver and screw up everything?I have been WANTING meat soooo bad. I wont do it if there is any chance of it screwing up anything.

    Soccer practice

From the album: Pre-Lapband-Surgery Scheduled Aug 23, 2012

I played soccer when I was young and kicked some butt. Now the 4 year olds kicked mine. Do I get an A for effort? I ran as much as I could with them and used it as an opportunity to lose weight....

WOW! You look fabulous!!! It's apparent that you have lost a LOT of weight! CONGRATS!!!
  20. Thank you so much for posting. I have the same questions. I know the answers are I can't do it on my own I'm just too embarrassed to admit I need to go to such drastic measures to lose the weight and get to the best me possible.
  21. Hello Everyone, So, I'm halfway through my third week of the preop diet (I was only supposed to do 2 weeks, but insurance is dragging their feet on my authorization, so my surgeon wants me to stay on it), and so far I've lost 13 pounds. Pretty good, huh? But now some strange thoughts are running through my mind. Because I'm doing so well on the preop diet, I've been fooling myself into thinking that if I just continue with what I've been doing, I won't need to have the surgery in the first place. Never mind that I lost 60 pounds with HCG last year and have gained it all back. Never mind that I have ALWAYS gained my weight back (plus more) whenever I've been on a diet. Never mind that I'm a hardcore compulsive overeater that can eat enough for 3 people. Never mind that I can't live on Protein shakes, green veggies, and egg whites forever. I'm still trying to kid myself into thinking that I can "do it on my own." My insurance has paid for all of the preop tests, so besides a few copays, I wouldn't even be losing any money by not having the surgery. I KNOW this makes no sense and I'm being completely unrealistic. I KNOW that I am setting myself up for failure as proven by my past "success" with dieting. I KNOW that the sleeve will have numerous benefits for me, both emotionally and physically. But there's still a little voice in the back of my head saying, "What if?" It's not about being "ready" to have the surgery. I have a great surgeon, have educated myself thoroughly on the procedure, and am comfortable with any risks or complications that I may or may not have. I just hate feeling this way when I know it's just an exercise in futility.

    sooo worried

Guys, remember that the "squeaky wheel" gets the attention. You notice the negative stuff. AND for every negative poster on this or any other forum, there are hundreds of people who never, ever post on any forum on any subject; they are happily living their lives and enjoying the results of their surgeries. Most common problems related to the band (PBing, getting stuck) are operator error. Remember to cut your food into bites about the size of a nickel, take a bite, put your fork down and chew it well, swallow and then pick up your fork and take another bite. While the SOUND of an aggressive fill is good, the REALITY is that a very aggressive fill can likely mean that you will end up too tight and need an unfill. Go with your doctor's plan, make your regular appointments for fills and you'll get to your sweet spot soon enough. There was one poster on this forum who had to have his band removed after just six weeks because he ended up being allergic to something in his band. How often does that happen? Even less than once in a very blue moon. And, I hate to say it, some people got their bands expecting that they were basically buying weight loss. That they wouldn't have to change anything, just merrily go on along the road they were heading down before surgery and the weight would just magically disappear. They are very disappointed in their decisions about getting banded. If you follow your doctor's instructions and accept that you will have to modify your bad behaviors, and regard your band as an awesome tool, you will more than likely do fine.
  24. I saw a pill crusher at Walmart for about $4, that may work. My doctor told me that we have to crush all pills that won't fit through a straw. He said that if you can't crush them, then a lot of medications have liquid forms available. He did warn not to crush extended release medications, instead to have your doctor to change your prescription. Hopefully as you progress with your weight loss you won't have to take as many pills.
