    Hurry up!

I know the feeling. I thought my paperwork was submitted last week and I found out on Friday that they won't submit until this Friday when I have my authorization visit. I was frustrated, but I am getting over it. I also get to pick my date on Friday. I think I am going to choose the 23 or 26 if available. Just depending if my husband wants to miss a few days of work or if he would prefer me to schedule on his days off.

    Aching back muscles?

I got my sleeve on the 5th, and after surgery, my back was KILLING me for the first two weeks straight! I slept with my heating pad behind my back it hurt so bad the first week! The heat (& Lortab) helped tremendously, but it still hurt a bit... My chiro told me that I had to wait 6 weeks for a full adjustment (same as a c-section, or any other abdominal surgery), but she did adjust my neck and shoulders since I came in for an appointment (for free ). The biggest help was my friend (who is a massage therapist) who gave me a back chair massage a couple nights in a row to ease the pain.... Good luck! It will go away......... eventually......
  3. I am 11 weeks out, down 58 pounds and all of a sudden feeling very hungry at night. I eat 4-700 calories a day and exercise 6 days a week. Tried to eat more but I can't seem to fit it in. Any suggestions?

    Feeling so emotional

I was exactly the same way one week ago!! It gets easier!! In another day you will be feeling so much better!! Think about how great you will feel next week when you step on the scale! Keep ur head up!! Hugsssssssss
  5. I'm having a horrible start at this sleeve. I've thrown up every day since surgery and have been to the ER several times for nausea and dizzy spells. I was finally given a PICC line because my body showed to be dehydrated and in starvation mode. It's so so hard to drink anything!!! After taking a few sips of anything I feel like I need to burp, or I feel like it's all coming back up, or I get the hiccups. Is this normal? I haven't eaten in 3 days because I'm scared I'll throw it up. I'm not too worried about the eating part right now because I have the nutrient bags going in me through the PICC line. It's the drinking fluids that's so hard. When does this go away??? I'm also in the liquids stage at this point. As far as prescriptions for nausea goes, I've been prescribed reglan, Zofran, and promethazine, and nothing is working.
  6. I have a 9cc band and my surgeon filled me 3cc in surgery, I am 2 weeks out with very little restriction. I am waiting for my next fill, so i am sure you will be just fine.
  7. My doc did not put any in at surgery and would not for 6 weeks. He is following the ALLERGAN guidelines and they seemed to be working for me. He reminded me this is a marathon and not a sprint.

    Coffee post op?

I didn't think I would be able to make it without my morning coffee. I've weaned myself to 1 cup in the morning, about 5 days out of the week. Hasn't seem to affected me negatively, and my surgeon put more of an emphasis on not having carbonated drinks than drinking coffee.

    Young Post-Op Bandster

Hello, My name is Heather today I am 15 days post op. I am looking for a lap band buddy. Someone who I can talk to about progress and get to know. Unfortunatly I dont have many people who know what i'm going through right now and a buddy would be great. I am looking for someone who 1) between age 20 - 25 (in college or just graduated) 2) banded in the past month or about to be banded in a few weeks I want someone who I can talk to about lapband struggles, diet, and someone to get to know. If you are interested in a lapband buddy please let me know!

    Calorie consumption

    I lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks pre-op. Surgery date was 7/9. I've lost 16 more since then. :-)
  12. Welcome Chevy and congrats on both your surgery and upcoming wedding. So many exciting things lie ahead for you! How are you doing thus far? I'm 4 weeks post op
  13. I was allowed to swallow pills as long as they were the size of pencil eraser or smaller as soon as I got home from the hospital (I've heard other people on here say they were allowed to swallow pills that were smaller than an M&M). Bigger pills I had to wait two or three weeks on, or until I was able to do it without difficulty. Only two of my pills were larger than that, but fortunately one was calcium (so I just got a chewable version), and the other was one that the PA at my clinic said was OK to skip for a couple of weeks. so I would say if you were able to swallow it without any problem, I wouldn't worry about it.

    Discomfort Q

Hi there! I’m 7 weeks post op sleeve and I had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time. I am still getting quite a bit of daily nausea and discomfort when eating no matter how little or slow I eat. Has anyone had a similar experience and when did it get better? Thank you!

    Lap Band vs Gastric Bypass

Hi Leslie, I chose lap-band over RNY for several reasons. In order: 1. Safer. Statistics show that RNY is 10 times riskier (1/200 RYN vs. 1/2000 band I believe) 2. No malabsorbsion. 3. Less invasive - no cutting, stapling, re-routing or removing. 4. Less likelihood of regaining weight - which is my particular problem area. 5. Time - I could have lap-band in 3 weeks, instead of having to wait 3 years. I had to deal with this now. 5. Reversible Downside: Cost, slower weight loss. Some may find that the necessary follow ups, ie fills, can be problematic - but my clinic is extremely convenient, within walking distance of my office so it was not an issue with me. Hope this helps. Alex
  16. I am new here just wanted to say hi. I was banded on 11/06/08 by Dr. Schwartz in Tucson and have really had no problems. I have lost 18 lbs which feels great! I am still having trouble figuring out my meals ( what I can and can't eat versus getting all my nutrients ). I am working out 4 to 5 times a week and it's working great. So far I feel I made the best decision of my life!!!

    Pain one month post op

I had that same thing 3-4 weeks out, and wound up in ER as well. Turns out in that large incision, there is a stitch that holds the muscle that the doc pulled the stomach out through. I strained that muscle and had a little tear where the stitch was. Rested for a couple days and I was fine. I just overdid it -- I was feeling good so thought I was all healed!
  18. Yep, call the surgeon. It sounds very similar to what happened to me and it turned out to be a stricture (narrowing of the opening exiting your stomach due to overgrowth of scar tissue). It is a super easy fix - they do an EGD with a balloon dilation. I had it done twice about 1 week apart because it was so tight, they were afraid to expand it too much the first time. I felt better immediately. I did still say nauseas for quite a while (up to about 6 months) and had to keep taking Zofran but it finally went away and I haven't looked back! So sorry you are having such a rough time! I truly do understand! Hang in there! And call your dr tomorrow!

Eating Plan for 2010 - Getting back on track.

I also have about 7ccs in my band, and I also have plateaued over the past month or so. I've seen the scale go up and down so much I can't even keep track. My doc says that's what happens in maintenance. Since I've never made it to the maintenance phase the million and one times I've done Weight Watchers, I didn't know. Anyhow, he gave me a slight fill, and I have started back to walking daily, which I had stopped doing when we got 2 feet of snow dumped on us a week before Christmas. I also have sworn off chips, which were my personal downfall over the holidays. And... I am determined to go back to the pool starting this weekend!!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one making a fresh start. Good luck to everyone!!!
  20. In my first consult with the nurse practioner I was told I needed to loose about 30 pounds before surgery. Keep in mind I had already lost 30 pounds on my own with exercise. When I met with the surgeon he felt around and said that he felt he could do the operation as I was. At that point I had lost about 25 pounds. Having read that people are put on a presurgery liquid diet I asked him if I was going to have to do one. He replied "Well if you want to do a liquid diet; here's the one I recommend." Well that wasn't exactly what I asked. Since the diet was kind of expensive and the dietician in the group was'nt that hip on it; and I was loosing weight on my own I did'nt do it. Two weeks later I met with him for what was supposed to be my last presurgery meeting and I had lost another 5 pounds and he asked if I had been on his diet. I said no and he was a bit irritated. I was a bit hurt because one of his collegues had said I did'nt need to do it. Well I spent the $230 on two weeks of the diet expecting my surgery would be in two weeks. The liquid diet was giving me allergy like sensations and was just too low in calories. 500 calories a day and I did it for 5 days and did'nt loose any weight. Please keep in mind that I do an hour of moderate cardio a day. I went to the nurse practioner and she told me to stop the diet due to the reactions I was having. I have a meeting with the surgeon this week and wonder what he is going to say. I have been on a partial liquid diet with whey protein shakes low cal/fat/carb, high protein. I have lost about 20 pounds since I last saw him. Not sure how this meeting will go.

    Dislike the waiting game .....

Yeah the waiting game isn't a whole lot of fun. But I've grown patient because I've spent 6 months in the process so what's another week or two at this point?

    Fat free vs. fat????

Wow, this just seems to bring more questions. Why would all of our dr.'s give such different meal plans and exceptions for the exact same surgery? They said the no fat diet is only pre-op to shrink my liver, I am not sure if this diet will continue after surgery or if they ease up a little. I hope so because 2 weeks pre-op, and 6 weeks post-op of this diet will be rough...but nothing I can't handle!!

    Painful Mushies

Well it finally happened! I got my band on Tuesday and so far so good. I am a little sore and finding it harder to get around than I thought. Some gas but I am moving to get that up and out. It is hard to sip but I am doing it. Ate some liquified chicken soup and so far so good. It is only day three and hope I can keep the variety in my diet. Any recipes for mush and slush food please share. Thanks for all the advice before surgery it helped and I made it so far!
  24. Hi! I had me sleeve surgery on the 2nd and am VERY disguraged. I had lost 12lbs during my fasting the week before it. I had a minor complication and was on IV fuilds for 2 days longer than I should have. I came home 20lbs heavier than when I went in. I have lost 98% of the Water weight but thats it. My measurements have not changed much. I have been doing everything I am suppose to be doing. So, when will I actually start losing weight? Christa

    food tastes weird

I was on a liquid diet for three weeks after surgery. By the time I got back onto soft foods, everything tasted weird. I was a serious coffee drinker before surgery (I live near Seattle, and it's the LAW... ) but suddenly coffee tasted awful to me. Over the next several weeks I needed to retrain my taste buds to what I liked and what I didn't. I think it was somehow connected to breaking the sugar cycle. Even now, nine months after surgery, if i eat a sugary food, it seems terribly sweet to me, and even a small amount of sugar goes a long way. Not a bad thing, but definitely different than I was used to. (I rewarded myself with a fresh-made milkshake in a restaurant the other day while having dinner out with friends, and I ended up giving away more than half of it. I just couldn't handle all the sweetness.) You're perfectly normal. Hang in there - things WILL come back to normal, just adjusted for your new bandster palate. It's all part of the journey. Dave
