I'll go check out that Bodiez protein water too EDIT: hubby is picking up a berry and a kiwi ready to drink protein water for me from chemist warehouse tomorrow. Will see how I find them, might be a good option for slow sipping at room temperature post sleeve while I'm stuck in hospital a few days and won't have a blender, ice and ice water to make palatable blended formulite shakes. Not sure on the calcium tablets, I think they would be more required for bypass patients and am hoping just the bariatric capsules will be enough for me from one month post sleeve. I'll have a blood test a week before my op to check my current vitamin levels among other things, and will be starting on the bariatric capsules as soon as they arrive. Let me know how much biotin your dietician recommends, as my bnmulti comes with 300mcg Biotin in the daily dose (2 tablets a day). I have very fine hair and very little of it to start with, so if I get much hairloss it's going to look pretty grim for a while - might just shave it off if it irks me enough! (that might risk anyone I don't tell of my bariatric surgery worrying that I have cancer though).

Type 2 diabetes and liquid diet pre and post op
RickM replied to Janetslp's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you need to do a liquid pre-op diet in your doctor's program - this isn't a standard part of bariatric programs, only some of them (though with the number of complaints about them that we see in these forums, one would think that they were normal practice.) My wife was a long term T2 diabetic when she went through this years ago, but neither of us had to go through any pre-op surgical diet (just the 6 month insurance thing) so there was no real issue there. Post op, medication adjustments kept things stable for her until she was off of the med completely (many leave the hospital off of meds, particularly those more recently diagnosed, but others take their time about it.) You may need some medication adjustments currently with the dietary changes that you have made. Discuss your concerns with the surgeon and/or dietician about keeping things stable through whatever pre-op dieting they impose - it is supposed to make you healthier leading into your surgery, not the other way around. -
Yes, i want to keep focused on my progress, and happy to do monthly photo updates. i had my first formulite meal replacement shake yesterday and tummy did not like it (queasy for nearly 2 hours afterwards, and gurgly upset tummy that evening). I'm hoping my tummy just needs time to adjust. this morning had just half a honeycomb shake mixed with some cooked rolled oats and cinnamon and though didn't much like the taste, i only felt slightly off afterwards. Going to try the choc-hazelnut shake made really thick with icy water and crushed ice in a bit (had some slow cooked turkey with some smashed avo for lunch). Im a natural foods and cook from scratch kinda person (intolerant to a lot of additives in processed food) and have a big veggie patch, so liquids phase is going to be really tough for me if i cant adapt to meal replacement/protein powders. I have some unflavored/unsweetened uprotein brand protein powder on its way to me and am hoping it mixes well into my homemade chicken stock for protein boosted healthy soups. has everyone got their bariatric vitamins planned? My bariatric physician recommended aussie brand www.bnmulti.com who do chewable bariatric multivitamins and calcium tablets, and now multivitamin capsules too. I'm planning to get a months worth of the chewable multis, then the capsules from one month out. If you are still having 2 meal replacements a day in liquid phase dont need to start vitamins until you start purees. If the unflavoured protein mixes well in my soups it be mostly having those post op i think, so will need extra vitamins.

I have Aetna and just finished my 90 day regimen. It was more like 94 days because I had a 4th visit to do as well. My paperwork/report was completed today and sent in. My bariatric weightloss center will not schedule anyone until there is a confirmed approval from Aetna. Once approved for surgery and recieve a date, thats when I will have to schedule EKG, X-RAY, LABS and make sure its all done before the surgery date. I think your pretty set. If you do not get approved its because your plan does NOT cover it. If you've come this far, why would they stop you now. It just doesnt make sense.

I’m going through Gwinnett medical center as of now. I signed up for a seminar through Peachtree bariatrics but I got cold feet and never went. A friend of mine recommended Gwinnett medical so I made an appointment. I’m going to see how I feel after the first consultation and then take it from there. How has your experience been with Peachtree? -
And Canberra is your nation's capital , right? We have Aussies, from New South Wales and Victoria but you are the first from Canberra. Very glad we are meeting! Diet plan help! 8 weeks pregnant
Jenna_P replied to mxpxchik11's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi! I'm a little over 5 weeks. What I was told was to keep protein to 70-90gm, increase complex carbohydrates, and try to get in 1000 calories a day minimum in the 1st trimester (it goes up each trimester). I never jumped on the deli meat band wagon, and honestly most meat makes me sick now. So, what I've been doing is yogurt every morning (I switched to full fat greek), 1 cup a day of beans (Navy, Great Nothern, or Black Beans), a package of the the Green Giant microwave steamers veggies, a piece of fruit (cuties, berries), cheese snack, and then dinner at the moment is up in the air depending on how I feel (my nausea is worst at night) but I try to eat fish like tilapia or salmon and then if possible some sweet potato and maybe salad. I split a lot of those up into smaller portions and am eating about every 2hrs just to keep the nausea at bay. Other good foods to add would be hard boiled eggs, spinach, avocado (I had a friend who would literally have half an avocado for lunch every day), banana and high fiber foods. If you are ok with straight dairy add a glass of milk. If grains are your thing feel free to add them but you don't need them with the beans as long as you are still eating animal products. Oh, and chocolate. I have one piece of good dark chocolate every day. And, as a side note, I have some days where nothing sounds good at all and I just have a protein shake (the orgain organic pre-made ones). Oh, one last thing, I don't know which app you are using to track you food, but I really like cronometer as you can track possible micronutrient deficiencies, and you can change the setting for how much of each nutrient you are shooting for (makes it very bariatric and pregnancy friendly). I've found that most vitamins don't cover your full need for Choline, Potassium, and Iodine so you may need to add more foods that supply those nutrients. Hope that helps! -

Hello I have Kaiser currently and I just completed my 12 week classes, seen the mental health Dr, took all my blood tests, sleep apnea test, stress test, and I attend my support group tonight, the last thing I have to do is get my blood pressure under control over the next couple of weeks then I can get an appointment with the surgeon. But my question is which Kaiser Permanente do you go to? I see a bariatric team at the Kaiser Permanente Fontana at their bariatric program which includes surgeon, dietitians, counselor, case manager, nurses and clerk's that all monitor you through out your program and after Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app

Oh darlin' I'm sorry but I'm even bigger than you. Would love to be your size, I stuck out in a crowd of cousins on my daddy's side like a big dumb goose in a company,of mallard ducks. I'm 5ft 8in,323 lb , strawberry blonde hair hazel, green eyes and 72 years old. I'm hoping to have RnY surgery within the next couple of months. I would really like it to be May. I'm in sorta hold status but hope the gears start turning April 25th when I have a psychological appointment with Dr Kramer at Martha Morehouse Pavilion in Columbus Ohio. This is at OSU-Wexner Medical Center where I hope to have my surgery. I have gone through the complete program at another Center of Excellence hospital. Wasn't aware,i had completed all requirements the first time, had my job terminated, had to change insurance company. Plan#2 didn't require all the things for approval, they failed to notify me of this, so I thought there was no hope of finalizing it. Returned in Autumn 2017 to try again, redid all prerequirements and completed them in January 2018, was waiting to be notified of a surgery date, instead the 3 surgeons in the practice had themselves a little meeting and then decided not to perform my surgery. Cried my eyes out for several days then picked myself up, dusted myself off and decided,to,persue surgery at another Center of Excellence hospital which,OSU is and has been since the rankings we're first instituted. This was the first place laprascopic surgery for Bariatrics was, performed in Central Ohio and among the first in all of Ohio. Very cool place, in fact my 2nd child and 1st son was, born there. Wild coincidence, when I called to apply i,was still,it their files and my son had been born there in 1976. Linda, the phone receptionist said Welcome Home and then called me by name.I was absolutely shocked. I attended a Introductory, seminar at Martha Morehouse a building in the OSU medical complex. Liked what I heard so signed up March 9th, 17 days after program #1 had kicked me to the curb. Was on,pins and needles for maybe 8 business, days and then they called to grant,me the April,25th appointment. See all my credits(for lack,of a better term) transfer to any other C of E program I at least got the sons of Seabiscuit the Horse to grant me that. So depending on any other requirements, this particular program has, I either fulfill them or go directly meeting the surgeon and receiving my surgery date. I hope it is the latter because,i feel i am extremely prepared for the whole thing, and don't need further instruction. And that's where,i stand. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

And where is this Pearl of Bariatric surgery located? My hospital OSU-Wexner Medical Center has all that kind of junk on board too. Hope they didn't hear me call stuff junk, they carry sharp scalpels around there. Wish I could tell you a ESD estimated surgery date but I don't have one. My journey has been in neutral but should switch into gear after the the 25th and I'm hoping maybe May.? Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

Protein Shake recommendations, Surgery Date 5/3/18
domi replied to HopefullXOXOXO's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I used premier shakes for the pre-op liquid diet. I am 6 days post op and unable to drink them. They are too thick and cause cramping. This morning I tried a sample of Unjury (chocolate) with almond milk and I can swallow it with no pain. I think maybe because it’s formulated for bariatric diets. It tasted good too. Not chalky at all. -
Ok, I understand if you laugh. LOL. I'm the old fart who's just learned about the wonders of The YouTube. LOL. And after many years away -- during which time FB moved on and broke up with me and changed...I'm now trying to get into the Bariatric Pal Group and I'm completely bamboozled! If anyone can or wants to help, I'd appreciate it! I joined the group--answered the 3 magic questions and joined. I got my email confirmation and clicked on the helpful "Visit Group" link in the email. And this is what I see. The group is not showing up in my Groups area. And the posts from the groups are not showing up in my personal feed. What on earth am I doing wrong? I don't want to join again. LOL. I think I might have already joined twice as it is! ROFLMDAO! TIA!!!! Sincerely, Clueless in Houston

Help! I am 1 week post-op and already feel like I am failing. I still feel bloated and heavy from the surgery, I still have some cramping-like pains every time I swallow something, and I haven't been able to stomach any protein this week at all. The bariatric PA says that is normal the first week, but the shakes just wont stay down. What am I doing wrong? Did anyone else have issues like these?

Diet plan help! 8 weeks pregnant
mxpxchik11 replied to mxpxchik11's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I have spoken with my surgeon and my nutrionist and to be honest they haven’t been that helpful. Really they said to switch the focus of Bariatric dieting to healthy pregnancy. I am really hoping to find a meal plan other pregnant woman have used that wasn’t successful. I’m hood at sticking to plans but when left to my own I can make fluctuate. -
Good for you that you found him and I hope he realizes how lucky he is to have found you. Go make sweet music together, maybe wedding bells off in the future? At any rate enjoy the here and now. Anyone with no hair loss after 3 months?
jess9395 replied to kaleia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As@gassygurl suggested, many of us lose no matter the vitamins or protein. Telogen Effluvium is real with any post op/body stress not just bariatrics— http://drnichter.com/hair-loss-after-surgery-explained/ And yes I got my roots done during the loss phase and didn’t seem to make it worse. -
@Taoz I asked the same thing, what kind of diet. The reason being is that a lot of what is allowed to mix with the protein powder is chalked full of carbs. I know I could do fruit, oats, milk, peanut butter, ect. I decided on my own to only mix with water. I also choose a Bariatric protein powder with less than 5 grams of carbs per serving. I didn't have a particularly large liver, but I'm glad I took my pre op diet seriously, I lost a lot of weight prior to surgery.

Zoftig girl---- you using the term" baby doctor" reminded me of another of my stories. I was laboring with baby# 2 in a teaching hospital, coincidently the same one I'll be having my Bariatric surgery at. Resident leading a bunch of interns around. Stood right by my bed and pronounced " this gravid uterus of 6cm dilitation" at this, point I interrupted him and said " this uterus is surrounded by a living breathing human being who is perfectly capable of hearing you. Hi my name is....." He turned red and then apologized, and I was not a little sorry that I embarassed him.Appears the interns weren't the, only ones who had something to learn that day.[emoji13] Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

Hahaha! But HALF a six inch sub! OMG. The tears are streaming down my face right now. This can't possibly be real. Can it? I don't often sense trolling, but for some reason meters are going off everywhere and I apologize in advance if I'm wrong! LOL! I would really laugh if this was an RD or surgeon or someone in a bariatric office jerking our chain to see how people would react to this scary larry situation!
