Unflavored (or preferably flavorless) protein powders
joconi replied to farooforever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just purchased Greek yogurtein coconut cream and it tastes like coconut. Great for yogurts, I haven't tried it in anything else. I also grabbed a container of quest unflavored that you can use in anything. Shakes, liquids, and it bakes. Haven't tried it yet but the woman at GNC said she heard it works great. Anyone bake with any protein powders? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Newbies - how much liquids/protein are you getting in?
amandastearns replied to xochtlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sassycat, I have not tried that but I always buy genepro (flavor and scentless) with 30g and add it to my fluids when needed. I've been having a hard time with protein and now my levels are low and required to get 105gm of protein daily. Adding this to my fluids really helps. I buy it on amazon and it can be added to anything! I also add it to my yogurt! -

Keep your chin up, it will get better each day. I really think you are eating some really difficult foods for week one. Shouldn't you be on full liquids only? During my first 2 weeks I really had no desire to eat and lived on whey Protein watery milk or beef broth (to ensure my protein intake), Jello, sugar free popsicles, and Powerade Zero (Powerade zero, which my doctor said was the ONLY sport drink I could drink was my life saver because Without it I would have dehydrated.) I could not drink Water until about week 8 and even now it is difficult. eggs I could not tolerate until a good 6-8 weeks. My second week I tried adding pudding, small curd cottage cheese, yogurt, and finally 'almost" pureed chicken. I think I wasted more food than I ate for the first month because I would eat a few bites and was full usually from trying to keep up with the required Fluid intake. Any way you look at it, enjoy the limited eating now and the not wanting to eat, because by your 3rd-4th month the desire to eat is back and your new eating habits have to be on your mind so you do not fall back to your old habits.

Need Help with Losing 10lbs for Surgery Consideration May 10th. How did you do it?
WorkinOnMe replied to BBweightlossjourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I put myself on a modified "liquid diet" ... I had a Protein drink for breakfast, a greek yogurt for snack, a cup of soup for lunch (pureed, all liquid like tomato, cream of broccoli, etc), a Protein Drink for snack, and whatever protein and vegetable my family ate for dinner. I also filled the rest of my day with Water (crystal light flavors or Powerade zero flavors) .... at least 64-76 oz per day. I stepped up my walking to 2 miles every other day. I lost 26lbs pre-op. Good luck!! -
Need Help with Losing 10lbs for Surgery Consideration May 10th. How did you do it?
Pillar2butterfly replied to BBweightlossjourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First, Has anyone used Dr. Paragi from West Orange ? What was your experience from beginning to end? No, sorry...can't help there... A more important question, is I have to lose 10lbs quickly ... To be considered for the sleeve , any advice ? pleaseee ..How did you do it ? Is this a requirement by your insurance or surgeon? I am no nutritionist, but most surgeons require a liquid diet prior to surgery...no reason why you couldn't do it now. For example, on mine...I drank 3 Protein shakes a day for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner...in between I had 4 oz Dannon Greek yogurt, 4 oz FF cream chicken Soup (strained), SF Jello or SF pudding....using these variations as 3 Snacks in between. I did this for 10 days and lost 15 lbs. -

thank you! I'm working with both a nutritionist and a psychologist, today was good day I try to eat more, even had pasta, Greek yogurt, and finally some shaved meet with olive oil and lemon. I was able to keep it down. I need to let myself gain some weight and be ok with it. Because I had surgery to have a healthy life with my kids and husband. -

Fear of eating out and dumping
Djmohr replied to Thecloude1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@@Thecloude1 Don't let this fear rule you. You will learn quickly if you are going to dump and what causes it. Most people never experience dumping, it is a small percentage of people who do. When you go on your trip, bring along some things you might need. I always travel with ready made Protein shakes, good quality Protein Bars, cheese sticks, jerkey, nuts or seeds in prepackaged portions. When eating out early on I stuck to things like cottage cheese, fish, chicken and stay away from sugary or fatty foods that might cause dumping. Yogurt. Keep one thing in mind, when you order yogurt in a restaurant it is usually full fat, full sugar. I have had yogurt make me uncomfortable for a while. Occasionally the higher end brunch places with have lovely plain yogurt with berries. the only time I ever get sick is if I eat too much of something that could cause a person to dump. So what I mean by that is if I were to have a treat like ice cream, I know that if I eat more than 3 or 4 spoonfuls I am going to be very uncomfortable for a while. I won't get sick but I get a very heavy feeling. I also get this from things like rice, bread, Pasta.....so I simply stay away. I can however have a piece of toasted bread without getting that same feeling. Now keep in mind I am 18 months out and at goal so I am allowed to eat some of these things in moderation. In the first 12 months I stayed completely away. I hope this helps. Have a great time on your trip. -
Fear of eating out and dumping
Threetimesacharm replied to Thecloude1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 6.5 months out and have not had any dumping at all. I am travelling next week and I also am nervous about what I will find to eat. I eat low carb, I don't add fat to my food and really have maybe eaten out twice since my surgery. I am trying to pre-plan restaurants that I can go too and am bringing along some protein bars/snacks and plan on going to a grocery store to by little things like yogurt/cottage cheese/tuna/hard boiled eggs/peanut butter for breakfasts and lunch. -
Over 2 years out and maintaining 10 pounds below goal. I work 10-12 hours/ day with no breaks. I take my Multivitamin, D3, and B12 with a couple spoonfuls of full fat cottage cheese 1st thing in the AM. I have a 20oz travel mug I fill with decaf tea with 1/2 and 1/2 and drink on my way to work. Depending on our schedule I may refill that with decaf coffee and creamer at a local convenience store at some point in the morning. Anytime from 10 to 12 I eat a Quest bar and take a Calcium supplement tablet. Throughout the afternoon I will drink a 24-30oz Protein shake and snack on nuts, Jerky, beef sticks, pumpkin seeds or popcorn and take a second calcium supplement tablet at some point. On my way home from work I start a 32oz bottle of Water and drink that through the evening. For my evening meals, I pretty much eat whatever I feel like, making sure I get protein, fruits and veggies. I always have Greek yogurt with ground flax seed and Kashi go lean or all bran Cereal for dessert. (Gotta have my fiber!). I will take a third calcium tablet in the evening. Usually have 12-16oz of decaf tea at bedtime. Weekends are much more of a free-for-all. I eat 6-8 tiny meals thoughout the day. I don't usually have a Protein Shake on my days off because I actually have the time to eat my protein. I also try to get in even more fruits, veggies and whole grains. If I'm driving a long distance or going on a horseback ride, I do take a Protein Drink with me.

I am 7 days post op. I feel exactly like you. Even healthy foods I drool over. I think it is because we are on strict liquids. I am taking omeprazole. daily so I don't think it is acid. My stomach actually has hunger pains. Maybe if your stomach heals quickly it is ready for stage 2 foods sooner. But I definitely don't want to risk it! It sucks! I dream of cream of wheat and yogurt. Only 6 days away.
