I had my surgery on the 3rd in Tijuana Mexico and I returned home to Oklahoma Friday night. I had a couple of NSV's just starting my trip out to San Diego. I was really concerned about taking a flight since I have never been on a large plane before. My father had a little Cessna when I was a little girl. 1) I was scared that the seat belt would not fit me and 2) I was afraid I would be air sick. I was so relieved that the set belt buckled on the first try and then I took to the air like a pro. I turned out being so comfy flying through the air above the clouds. I am so glad to be back home getting to know my new stomach and learning what it can tolerate. I am learning to take sips. Why is that such a challenge? I am taking this new life one day at a time. Was it worth it? Yes, Absolutely!

This evening I came in from the office and needed to do some last minute Christmas shopping. So, I took off the dress pants and grabbed the first pair of jeans that I saw. Little did I realize that I had less jeans than I thought, and all my other jeans were in the dryer. So, I grabbed the ones at the bottom of the drawer - sure enough they were a size down AND THEY FIT! Ok ok ok - so - it's not very masculine to Celebrate fitting into a size smaller jeans, but, YAY! I haven't worn those jeans in almost 2 years!

Now that's a unique NSV! Congrats!

Scheduled for plastics! Advice?
Alex Brecher replied to Elode's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
@@Elode, I don’t have any practical advice for you, but I do want to wish you luck and congratulate you on your upcoming procedures! I am so glad you have found a surgeon you like. What a nice NSV to be told by a doctor you can’t lose any more weight! You have worked so hard, and it has been a pleasure having you share every step of the way. -
I have been going to the gym lately and it seems like i have so much more energy. I did 35 min on the bike and and 25 min on elliptical and then the circuit of weight training. Not only did I workout longer, i was at a much higher pace than usual. I was also rockin' out to some rock music from the 80s! that might have helped, i'm sure to the annoyance of others at the gym. Weight has been stagnant for the past 2 weeks. have to admit i havent been a "good doggie" either. Looking forward to my 1st fill this Thursday... 4cc i am told.

Tray Table Down?Really the Tray Table Went Down
Cingulus commented on Cingulus's blog entry in Blog 61341
As I type this blog, I am sitting in a coach seat with my tray table down and it is flat. My stomach is not in the way, I did not need a seat belt extension and my laptop is open. This is the first time in the past decade I have been able to do this. I always used to cringe when my boss would say…”Oh you have a 6 hour flight you can work on this on the plane…” this usually meant performing some form of cramp induced typing contortions and annoying the person next to me. Today, it is different, and I am somewhat amazed. As I have mentioned in many other blogs I travel very often with my job and have spent years mastering the Yoga of Airline seats. I have studied the lay of most of the major jets and can tell you which seats have the windows in the right spots so I can lean my shoulders into the window cavity. I used to carry in my computer bag 3 extension cables, one for American Airlines planes, one for Untied Airlines Planes and one for Southwest airlines. I will not go so far as to say I am comfortable in airline seats now, that would be going way too far and I still think they are built for people who only weight 100 pounds or kids under 12. However, it is getting easier to travel and that is a huge NSV for me. -
Isn't having energy and endurance at the gym the greatest thing? I love it too. Congrats on that awesome NSV!

Top 10 things you want to be able to do after the surgery
terry1118 replied to mal0712's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Save your lists! Hang them where you can see them and use them as a way to measure your success! All your NSV's (non scale victories) will be a better measure of success than the number on the scale. Check off each one as you reach it and CELEBRATE each one because it's YOUR hard work and sacrifice that made you successful. Look at your list when you hit a plateau to remind yourself of why you're doing this and how far you've come. The scale is just a number - the things you achieve are your LIFE! :-) -
Oh Diane, what a wonderful NSV and what a beautiful family you have. goofy or not you look GREAT!!!!!!!!

okay...I'm a newbie lapbander. What's an NSV?

NSV = Non Scale Victory. They make you feel soooo good! And this is a great one.

Starting My C25K Adventure - Looking for Advice
joatsaint replied to joatsaint's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I only jog outside. I don't know if I could handle the boredom of a treadmill. :-P I need something to keep my eyes busy, and TV just doesn't do it for me. 20-22 minutes non stop is an incredible NSV, Congratulations!!! -
I've had my moments, but I'm SOOO happy I did this!

@@Luana526, you're doing great. I agree w/you, it's the best decision I've made in a while. I haven't lost a lot but I'm certain I'll reach my goal. Right now I'm enjoying the nsv's ( being able to walk through a mall without back pain, energy, energy, energy. Dancing through an entire song without being winded, LOL etc. etc. etc.).I have no regrets! -
NSV-I went into the Misses dept at JCPenney and Macy's
Crishell posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Y'all. Happy New Year!! I had a very interesting experience over the weekend that is actually an NSV but I am surpprised about my feelings. Let me start with a little history. I have worn as large as a size 30/32 clothing but for the past several years, I had stabilized (for lack of a better word) @ 26/28. On surgery day (1/19/07) I was wearing 24 & 26's. Currently I am size 18 bottoms (with some slack now) and 18/20 and 1X (some 16) tops. I had noticed lately that the 1X tops are fitting a little slack so I decided to venture in to the land of the Misses Dept. I have NEVER been able to do this as i have been fat ALL my life even as a teenager. It felt so strange being there. I have never had a reason to even visit or walk through that part of the store; always been Woman's World for me. I went to return some 1X sweaters and tried on some XL and L sweaters in Misses Dept. I spent some extra time looking at myself in the dressing room mirror. I had on a sweat suit set because I had just left Curves and it was so baggy and I had no butt at all. Further, I could not believe it was me in that size L (even if it was a sweater) and even in a "strange" dressing room because I have Woman's World down pat as far as where things are located. It was a whole new world. It was so strange, yet exciting AND most surprisingly sad. I felt like on the one hand, I belonged or could actually see myself belonging in the land of the Misses. No one stared at me in disbelief or gave me the look like I was definitely in the wrong area. But then part of me felt like a traitor. Like I was leaving Woman's World (WW) and all my WW friends &b family behind. It's all I've ever known. I know I am still basically in (WW) but I can now tell the tides are shifting and I can see it as a possibility of being there permanently. Am I crazy for feeling this way?? -
NSV - i got in my DH's shorts ... ;)
jnbwilds replied to losingjusme's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
How awesome! That is a great NSV!! I can't wait to catch up to my DH's weight. I've got about 20 lbs to go. I doubt my bottom will ever fit in his shorts - but darnit - now, I'm hankerin' to try!! -
I am 7 weeks out and despite following my surgeon/nut’s guidelines almost perfectly, have spent much of the time stalled. I lost the majority of my weight by day 9 post-op, then nothing for a month. Lost a few more, then nothing for 2 weeks, etc. I didn’t get too discouraged though…yeah, it was frustrating during those weeks when the scale wasn’t moving, but my clothes were getting looser. So today I got solid proof that although the scale isn’t moving much – I am making progress! I measured 5 areas and have lost a total of 12 inches!!!!! Inches lost: Neck 1” Waist 4” Hips 4” Ankle 1” Bicep 2” It’s hard, but I’m learning to not get hung up on what the scale reads, as that is only one method of measurement. Yes I want the scale to reflect my progress too, but there are other measurements of success that are just as important – clothes fitting better, the overall feeling of improved health, for me today it was inches. Hail the NSVs! Cheers and wishing everyone the best on their journey!!

So my NSV for the day is... I had to tighten the straps on my sports sandals. Never thought about losing weight in my feet. LOL

That is terrific!!!! Even though I am a fellow sleever, I definitely would have tapped into the cooking sherry (or shall I say chocolate pizza)! (Even if it were just one bite!!! That is a great NSV!!! ;0)
