    Scar Treatment

I'm super lazy too, but the tape stays on a week at least, so it's not much trouble to use.

    Scar Treatment

I've done a quite a bit of research on scar treatment, as I plan to have plastics later this year. as @GreenTealael mentioned, silicone tape, or gels are universally recommended by cosmetic surgeons. They're the only treatment that has actually been clinically proven effective. I used silicone tape soon after the scabs came off. I used the tape consistently, up until about 2 weeks ago. All I have left are thin white lines with a small amount of light pink/purple around them (I am very fair). Most people wouldn't notice unless I pointed them out. This is what I used. I still have TONS left over for when I get plastics. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VE9AL8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

4 years since my gastric bypass

I am four weeks post op. of course I am in the losing phase. But I fully anticipate obesity being a battle the rest of my life. I am nervous about the maintenance phase. I wish you success. All I can suggest is to go back to first principles: Protein first, lots of Water, no caffeine, limit carbohydrates, count calories and regular exercise. Wishing you the greatest success...
  4. I just went the the week 3 stall and I finally had a 1.5 drop this morning..mine was a week long but everyone is different.. hang in there and keep up the water!
  5. I! Overall I have been very happy with my sleeve. The past few weeks though, I seem to feel worse and worse. When I get home from work, I just get in bed And get under covers. And on weekends, all I feel like doing is laying in bed and sleeping. No energy, fatigue, cold all the time when others aren't, having to keep thick blanket with my at work. My husband says my skin is very pale, and by mid morning, I have dark circles under my eyes. I went to pcp and had lab work, but waiting on results. I'm still not able to eat a lot, especially, any kind of meat with consistency...unless it is really soft. Has anyone else dealt with this, or have any words of wisdom for me?
  6. Hi everyone ! Im almost 3 months post op and just today i started experiencing some stomach pain. It feels like a bubble in my stomach/intestine and when i move it feels like a sharp pain ! Has anyone else experienced this and possibly know what it means ? I thought it was because i was hungry so i had dinner and the pain actually got worse.
  7. I'm so glad that I found this topic! My surgery was June 5 and this week I've stayed at the same weight. My Dr. told me at a recent check up not to be obsessed with the scale that this is normal and to date my loss is 23 lbs, but I was still thinking that I was doing something wrong or that this was a cruel joke like all past diets. Thanks for everyone's support!
  8. Has anyone had the problem of weakness in your legs if you have eaten too much? This has happened to me 3 times now. Legs feel shaky like they are not going to hold me up! Goes away really quickly, but it is odd. I see my doc on Monday (June 25) for a check up and fill, and will be sure to ask him, but thought this group might have some thoughts. Thanks. Margaret

    Hair Thinning

losing your hair will be inevitable, with my lap band i lost over 50% of my hair starting at about 3 months post band. it took about 5 years for it to come back, i did everything, vitamins, special shampoos etc, while that will not hurt it will not help, nothing will......
  10. Well I'll be 8 months out from surgery on Monday. Did another before/after pic. Weight loss is definitely slowing down but I'm quite close to my goal and perfectly content where I am. I wouldn't mind dropping a few more pounds and I'm still losing, just slowly (7 pounds in the last 7 weeks). Overall though I feel a million times better.... I've gone from a 3XT/4X shirt to a regular Large shirt and waist was as big as a 50 at one point but generally a 46/48 and now down to a 34. Absolutely ZERO regrets!

    Fill?

My band was put in and left empty so my stomach could heal from the surgery. This is really a sensitive time for your stomach, so it is really important to follow the rules after your surgery, or you can end up in pain, and even sabotage the whole thing. After about 6 weeks, I got my first fill. Make sure your doctor uses a fouro scope (like an xray machine) when you get your fill. That way they can see how much tighter your band is getting. They will have you drink liquid to make sure it goes through the band. You will feel restricted after the first fill, but don't push your luck trying to eat, eat , eat. The first fill may not be as tight as your second fillwill be, weeks later, but you need to increase your consumption gradually to figure out your limits, and you will lose weight if you follow the rules. You shouold always be able to swallow liquids, no matter what!

    Clothes For Hospital Stay

I wore my own nightgown as soon as they let change. Theirs just seemed too hot and heavy. I brought a bra that I planned to wear but I was so swollen in the rib cage area that it hurt to breathe when I wore it. I would recommend getting one a size larger if you can. I would have been more comfortable doing my laps if I had been able to wear a bra. I was finally able to wear it on the flight home 3 days later but it was about a week before it felt comfortable again.
  13. I didn't experience this but at 2 1/2 weeks I was still on liquids. What are you eating?
  14. I am wondering when everyone started taking vitamins postop? My doctor didn't say anything about it other than all pills needs to be crushed for at least a month. Did everyone crush their vitamins or is there a decent liquid vitamin (I gagged on a liquid one I bought at my local hospital pharmacy and threw it out). Or did people not take them (I am paranoid and want to start taking them due to the upcoming hair loss). I have the chewable vitamins but don't know when I can start taking them since I have to be on liquids for 2.5 weeks post-op. Are there any vitamin lozenges? I had my surgery this Monday 3/22 in Mexico and I am feeling just fine. Not sure if I am drinking too fast - get kinda tight in the chest but nothing else. I walked 3 miles today. Thank you for any input you can provide.
  15. For years - I have probably been up and down 40-50 lbs three or four times in my life - Adkins or Sugarbusters seemed to work the best on me. Now I find myself one month out of sleeve surgery and not able to eat red meat or chicken yet (which for years has been my mainstay - avoid the carbs and eat the lean meats right?). Since the surgery I am not hungry at all. The only way I know to eat is I get a weird kind of pain in the middle of my back and realize it is meal time. Presurgery I did the shakes and protein pudding and lost some pounds and thought the shakes would work for me after surgery. I am not sure what happened but since the surgery the shakes make me GAG. It is so weird to have to 'make" myself eat something. After years of being able to eat everything and anything.....I find myself standing in the kitchen scratching my head ALOT. I am really not hungry. I think to myself "drink the shake" and almost immediatly think "barf". I have ordered the chicken soup with protein added. I am hoping when it gets here that will help my problem. I really can't eat enough real food right now to meet the protein 40-50 mark and I really just can't do the shakes. Will there come a time when I can eat enough meat to not have to do the protein supplements? Will it hurt for now if I only get 30 ish of protein for the next couple of weeks? I am loosing alot of weight and my energy and stamina feel fine. I have lost 37 lbs so far (10 were presurgery). Thanks for any suggestions.

    Aetna 1 pound rule

I have completed everything. During my 3 months of Nut appointments, my weight fluctuated. I lost 3 lbs and I gained 3 lbs. My end weight was the same as my start weight. My net gain was 0. Aetna denied me because I gained weight. Once I lost the 3 lbs, I had to keep it off. In phone conversations they tell me it’s because I fluctuated, the denial letter says I gained weight. They Aetna reps also tell me it’s not a lost cause. These things usually get overturned on appeal. The peer to peer appeal was denied. The doctor is in the process of filing the second appeal. Aetna tells me I can resubmit my initial claim in October if the appeal is denied. I have no other appointments scheduled for nut, it seems like maybe I should... just for the weigh in. I am little nervous to call and ask though, because I have lost weight and I am afraid that I will gain a pound back and screw it up again. I knew Aetna had the one pound rule, but I was under the impression it was a net gain. Anyone had any experience with anything like this?
  17. You've been banded less than two weeks. Most doctors would still have you on a liquid or mushy diet. This is a time for healing, for letting the band settle into it's place around your stomach and for the stitches placed around it to heal. Eating solid foods would not be the ideal thing for your band right now. I'd say you are uncomfortable when you eat because you really shouldn't be eating much yet. What are your surgeon's post-op diet requirements? As far as eating habits go, that is something that you are going to have to work on yourself. Have you always been one to eat very little during the day, then go wild at night? Or is it just a result of the discomfort you get when eating now?

    Stomach virus or ? (graphic)

How far post-op are you? During the first two weeks I was basically a walking commercial for Imodium when I needed to leave the house. It was bad!

    Advice ...

might be eating too much/too fast, or it might be a stricture (I had two of them - they're not uncommon when you're 1-3 months out). Contact your surgeon.

    Pills

I have no problem taking my pills, I do break the larger ones in half though. I only needed liquid the first week or so. I bought liquid tylenol and never even used it. I also bought a pill crusher and never used it.

Rule of thumb on lab tests?

I am 13 years out and in the same boat. moved so had to find a new surgeon. the following list is what they have asked me to get at the lab. 1.iron 2.vitamin d 3.vitamin B 12 4.calcium 5. thiamine ( Vitamin b 1) 6. selenium 7. zinc 8. copper the list includes the normal ranges and what the symptoms are if you are deficient in each one. hope this helps you. my primary dr would not do the necessary tests saying they were not necessary so I had to find a dr who was more familiar with bariatric patients ( she has a family member who had the surgery so listened to me)

    Broke the STALL - YES!

I try one new food a day, even though I think I want to try more. I had a poached egg yesterday. I had no problems eating it but it sat really hard in my stomach for about 3 hours. I won't try that again for quite some time. Soft chicken, tuna with a little light mayo, deli turkey rolled up with small amount of hummus in it, string cheese, cottage cheese, steamed squash, green Beans and salmon have all worked well. When I weigh out 2 oz of Protein, I look at it and think, "There's NO WAY this is going to fill me up!" So far, I haven't been able to finish the 2 oz. It's weird. I don't feel full in my stomach like I used to, I can just tell I don't need any more. It's a new sensation. Also, chili didn't sit well with me. I'm still dealing with acid and I think the tomato was too hard on my new stomach. @@2Tuffproc Good luck with this next stage. I'm really enjoying it.

    Drinking

Just as you can see from the above posts, everyone is different and every doctor is different in their instructions post-op. My doctor, specifically, said to sip slowly (only 1 ounce every 5 minutes). As I've gotten further into my post-op phase, I have been able to drink much faster (faster than my doctor requires) and I haven't had any problems. I don't do large gulps of Water, however, but I will take several sips at a time without hesitation. The only time I have slowed down (besides my initial post-op weeks) was after my first fill because of swelling. I've heard that drinking to fast can actually cause the pouch to stretch; but, just as everyone says, liquids pass right through the band, so who knows. Play around with it and see what you're comfortable with!
  25. So … I made it! I made it through my 2 weeks of liquid diet. My poor mate, he said he thinks he saw horns. I was on edge because I was so hungry, close to foaming at the mouth. Not quite, but it felt like it. It was hard, I cannot even lie. I read about those who are like “I’m not even hungry.” and I am like WELL GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!! lol No, really I think that is great, fortunate even. I was hungry. In the second week it was kicking in, the urge to lick everything I saw my mate eating. BUT, I hung in there … knew it was the right thing to do for my health and well being and stuck it out. Now TODAY I had a boiled egg pureed with a dab of light Mayo and a 1 tbs of applesauce. I have been dreaming about that egg like it was Vin Diesal. Let me tell you, it was EVERYTHING!! I chewed 25 times and was slow. Didn’t get through all of it, lol had to lick my spoon in the applesauce just to get a taste because it all didn’t fit. I was stuffed. I know now the calling card of when to stop. Pressure on my chest and the sigh. lol I wish I stopped 2 baby spoons earlier. I took my left overs and put it in the fridge, but I feel great. So happy I stuck through my two weeks, just made my breakfast more delicious. Didn’t finish it all but it was enough, one step at a time but I feel like I’m getting there.
