Same! Surgery on June 6th. Lost 32lbs first two weeks. Stalled every since. I'm just still plugging away following the plan. I admit I felt a little depressed about it this morning, but I know it has to start moving again at some point when I'm only eating 600 calories Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app

Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
SummerTimeGirl replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
UPDATE: It's been a while since I've been on and posted so I figured I'd so so quick. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has changed for me!!! Still stuck at 235-ish (and have been since the end of last Oct) and can't seem to lose anymore no matter what the hell I do!! I did start Rybelsus a few months ago and made it through a month of the 3mg dose and a month through the 7mg does. Then, when my doc put me on the final dose of 14mg a few weeks ago, my insurance suddenly decided it was no longer gonna cover it!! Not sure why the allowed the other doses/months and not the new one. Doc and I are trying to appeal it (cause it costs about $1300 out of pocket a month without insurance and has no generic). Their one reason was that I was NOT a uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetic. They also said I needed to be in a weigh loss program or seeing a weight loss doctor in order to have it approved for weight loss reasons. I asked my family doc if my surgeon qualifies as that and so he sent him a messaged asking the same thing. Just wondering if it is a matter of the surgeon prescribing it vs. my family doc. Who knows. Anyway, just waiting on hearing back about that. Not even sure that will help me either. Don't know what else to do and just trying to accept the fact that I most likely will be at this weight forever. Which SUCKS!!! I wanted to get down to at least 180. I'm swimming damn near 4 hours every day or walking for at least an hour and of course depending on who, doc wise, I speak to they each have something different to say. Walk less, walk more, walk slow, walk fast, do weights, don't do weights......UUUUUgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh! I've tried it all. Upped water, lowered water, ate more protein, ate less protein, ate more food, ate less food, just don't know what else to do so pretty much just been living my life doing whatever. Haven't been logging my food for months but not doing anything really different food wise than I was when I was logging. Just wondered if being so strict and regimented was maybe causing the stall so I stopped but I guess that wasn't the case either. Anyway, that's that. -
Meal preppers - looking for some advice/suggestions
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Tufflaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do love me some meal prep! Things I’ve learned- individual Greek yogurts while more expensive are easier for “no spoon” days. I usually add homemade granola or a 100 calorie pack of nuts and fruit for a quick protein packed meal. cooking a protein bland for the first cook makes customized meals easier later. A beef roast in beef broth can later be made into shredded beef for tacos, BBQ beef, or korean beef bowls. I love soup! I’ll usually make a batch on my meal prep days and either put it in the fridge or freeze it. Scrambled eggs (so they’re still glossy and not rubbery- most people overcook scrambled eggs) are great to put into meal prep containers with a couple sausage links or patties and microwaved later in the week. Hard boiled eggs are another great option. Just peel and store in the fridge for up to a week. They’re good as egg salad or on salads. Use a lettuce knife- it’s a special knife made of nylon with serrated edges that cuts lettuce so it doesn’t oxidize. This keeps lettuce longer over the week after you prep it so it doesn’t get brown and yucky. -
I was told I could swallow everything the size of pencil eraser (and smaller) as soon as I got home from the hospital. That was all except two pills. I had to wait about three weeks before I could tackle those - fortunately, they were ones I was told would be safe to wait on. So I never had to crush anything.

June 2022 surgery buddies
mheyer1641 replied to Jessica1024's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yay! I had my 2-week post op today too. Doctor and Nutritionist were both happy with my progress (30 lbs down including pre-op) and moved me to soft foods for two weeks. -
Why why why did I do this? Slow suicide.

I was taken off one of my psychiatric meds by my family doctor - she felt i didn't need it. I went into a downward spiral for 6 weeks - it was awful, awful, awful. When i finally told my psychiatrist, she immediately admitted me into their hospital and put me back on my original meds. I was so much better within 36 hours. She said that my family dr should never have taken me off that particular med. I was in a serotonin withdrawal. So, i hope you are able to get the meds figured out. I think much of what you are feeling is due to your lack of medication. Good luck & sending lots of love to you -
Hi everyone! So today I went to my 1 month post op doctor's visit. My labs were impressive - thank goodness, as I was worried. I have lost 32 pounds since surgery 6/8/22. I did not lose any weight pre op, in fact I gained as I enjoyed a "last hurrah" eat fest. I was cleared for all gym workouts! Yaaaay! Also, no more protein shakes as I now need to eat food rich in protein. I am also on a regular high protein low carbs diet - 3 meals daily. I am honestly worried about this as my taste buds have changed, I'm never hungry, and even when I try to eat, I get full after 2 or 3 bits. This surgery has completely changed my relationship with food. There are times when I think of enjoying a large bowl of pasta and chicken parmesan and feel sad, but that feeling is short lived when I look in the mirror or get on the scale and can say, the sacrifice was worth it. We can all do this!

Two weeks - July 21st … I’m so excited! I’ll meet with the surgeon, decide on the best surgery (I have reflux which is currently under control with medication so I’m leaning toward RNY to avoid that getting worse … but want to go over my other medical issues with her and see what she recommends) and pray we can schedule a time that allows me to have the surgery and heal some before school starts. I did ask to be put on a cancelation list just incase an earlier time opens up - but she only has clinics on Thursday so it’s not likely to be earlier. My pre-op diet is 8 days so the earliest it can be scheduled is July 28th. I highly doubt that her schedule will allow for that, so we are just hoping that we can get scheduled before Aug 12, so hubby won’t need to take any time off work. Anyone have any “I wish I had asked that” questions that you didn’t know to ask or think about when you met with the surgeon? I have my list of questions That we have started about medication and my medical concerns - but from anyone who’s been there before … is there something that you recommend asking that you either didn’t know to ask or didn’t think to ask? Either about the recovery - surgery or anything?

Just had my two week post-op appointment. Doctor is very happy with everything. I've now been cleared for soft foods - yaaaaaaayyy! I thought I'd be on soft foods for 1-2 months, but doctor said do it for 2 weeks then I can move on to the final rest-of-my-life stage. Very happy with how things are going.

Had my final weigh-in today, lost 10 pounds in the last 6 weeks. (My only requirement was to not gain weight from the initial weigh in). That brings me to 50 pounds down since June 2021. I’m happy about that (and eager for that progress to continue). Appointment went well, however I had a slight disappointment. I was told if I had everything done by this appointment I would schedule with the surgeon, for their consult, when I check out. When I checked out I was told the coordinator hadn’t reviewed my final test from July 1st yet. Once she does that - THEN they will call to schedule with me. I’m trying to take a deep breath and be patient, but it’s hard. This is a big difference from last year when I was going through another program and I canceled my surgery two weeks before it was scheduled (I was not confident in the team or program I was dealing with). It’s a little frustrating that if I had stayed with that original program - I’d be 5 months post op by now… but then again, both my husband and I were not confident I would have the support and guidance needed to be successful in the other program. So for now I’ll try to be patient for that next phone call to come in.

Iced Coffee
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to Timberlynn Sleeved to DS's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use a cold brew concentrate, a little fat free half and half, and a splash of sugar free syrup (Torani, Jordan's, etc.). I make my hot coffee the same way. I get the syrups at Home Goods or TJMaxx, as they tend to be cheapest there, but you can also find them in grocery stores and online. My plan restricted caffeine until 2 weeks post-op, which is the only time in my life I've ever drank decaf. -
Lap band Revision to GSV- painful open wound
karakent replied to JFizzle's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my band removed in 6/21 but didn’t have that experience. Are you still feeling that or has it gone away? I know it’s been weeks since you posted. I hope you’re doing better. When is you VSG scheduled for? -
Over 40 AND BMI over 50 - need inspo!
The Greater Fool replied to MrsPinedo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
1. Stay off the scale. It's a tool of the devil to destroy your spirit and mess with your mind. Your plan will work without getting on a scale; 2. Stay on plan. Be a plan nazi. Follow the (hopefully rational) rules all the time. Make your rules your new normal where following your plan is as normal as breathing. In my opinion, this shouldn't be another crash diet, it should be learning a new way to eat for life; I had WLS to never be on a crash diet again and here I am having never been on a crash diet again; 3. Don't do what you can't sustain. For me, I know I couldn't sustain going to a gym, so I didn't do it. Of course, running is one of those things I wouldn't have thought I could sustain, but after I lost a few hundred pounds I challenged myself to complete the couch to 5K program. I enjoyed it so much it turned into binge running. So... 4. Be open to trying new things, but don't be a slave to them; I never thought I would get into binge running, but for me it was like meditating. I would listen to audio books and just let my mind go with the story. It set the tone for the day; Unfortunately, carrying 1/4 ton extra pounds around for a lot of years takes it's tolls on the knees; 5. Stay off the scale; Honest, read the posts here, easily half of them are people fussing about the scale; I only weighed at monthly Follow-ups and I never saw a stall. It helped that I was too large for a home scale. Eventually I could weigh at home and for a couple weeks I weighed at home! A few times a day, just because I could. Then I stopped. Even now I don't weigh at home, but only at annual physicals; 6. The first weeks may be painful and difficult in ways you haven't imagined. Or you may sail through without any issues at all. Or something between. Be resolved that you will not worry about them until they occur then deal with them knowing that this too shall pass. Just get through it with your natural style and grace; Good luck, Tek -
Getting closer… timeline question
karakent replied to LookingForward22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once I finished my last test, and got my results, my paperwork was sent to my insurance. Approval took about a week or so and THEN I got the call to schedule. No point in scheduling if insurance said no they said. Not that I was worried, I also had a strong belief my insurance would cover it. I am having a revision so the first surgery was scheduled for maybe 4 weeks (a month) after that. I’m an educator like your husband and also had to consider my schedule. I think once everything is in order it will go quickly for you, especially if the team you are going to has several surgeons to choose from. -
Getting closer… timeline question

Congratulations for getting to this stage! I know for me, this period is the hardest to stay patient. lol. I echo what others have said - every program/hospital seems to be different. My last clearance appointment was on June 6. The bariatric coordinator called me a couple weeks later to schedule the surgery. It's been scheduled for July 21, -
Iced Coffee

Over 40 AND BMI over 50 - need inspo!
kcuster83 replied to MrsPinedo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 38 and started with a BMI of 57! Three and a half months post op my BMI is now 43! I am not far enough out to talk about long term success but as far as I am concerned (and my team), right now I am killin' it! I had an easy recovery and easily slipped through each phase and into my new normal life. I wish I did it 10 years ago. My surgery was extensive, basically 3 surgeries in 1. (Bypass, Hernia repair and esophagus repair and "trimming" due to damage from the years of GERD.... Took about 5 hours. I know everyone is different, but I also know positive stories help when people have the jitters. I was/am pretty healthy. My only medical issues were high blood pressure and severe GERD. So I didn't have a lot of risk with surgery other than the normal risks that just come with any surgery. My surgery was extensive, basically 3 surgeries in 1. PS: Bypass seems to have cured my GERD! You got this! Relax and enjoy the ride, it is so rewarding when you see your efforts paying off! -
Yeah, the pre-op diet is truly just a matter of toughening up, staying focused on why you're doing it, and soldiering through it. It's not fun, but it's only a couple of weeks. Totally doable. Remind yourself "it's not forever" because it's not. Surgery will arrive before you know it, and honestly, my pre-surgery nervous energy helped getting me through the liver shrinking diet. Distract yourself, stay busy. Eyes on the prize.

Stand still for 3-4 months now
doobie31 replied to ctsaunde2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm only 2 weeks post-op, so what do I know ... but if the inches are coming off, sounds like you're still progressing. Do you ever measure your body fat %? If it's going down but the weight is staying the same, I'd think that means you're gaining muscle which is wonderful. While weight is the easiest thing to measure, ultimately less fat is a more important goal than fewer pounds, isn't it? All that said ... you mentioned the snacking. So you probably know what else is really going on. -
Soft food/pureed phase too soon?
Ryan Witner posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys, im about 9 days post op VSG. Surgery date was 6/28/22. Ive been on the soft liquids for about a week now, and have lost 25 pounds already. I know its recommended to wait two weeks before moving onto soft foods/pureeds, but literally all i want is just a little bit, even a small soft food meal like some canned tuna to satisfy my urge to have something besides liquids. Is it alright to have even just a small soft meal to satisfy myself or is it too early? This stage is getting to my head a little bit but otherwise i honestly feel great. I've been going exactly by the book so far and what im really craving is a small bit of canned tuna honestly. Everything ive tried in the soft liquid phase has been without any issues whatsoever. Worried about eating
Arabesque replied to dani_d99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome. As others above have said, said there are a lot of variations in plans. Mine also was two week stages. A good thing to remember is if you move to a next stage & find it a struggle just go back to the previous stage for a few days. We all heal at different rates & sometimes you need a little longer than what is suggested by your plan & that’s fine. Just do what works best for you. When you can eat solid food think soft like slow cooked meat based soups, stews/casseroles, etc. so the meat & vegetables are soft & ‘fall off the bone’ tender. I found mince based dishes easiest to begin. And ensure you have sauces or gravies to keep your meat moist & easy to swallow. -
I was allowed rolled oats in purée but the instant version which is more processed. I made it on lots of milk & a serve lasted me days. I was also allowed scrambled eggs. Again thinned with extra milk. Think almost run off a spoon not plop/dollop thickness. The first few weeks can be challenging because your tummy can be sensitive & fussy. Some people experience temporary intolerances like to milk (try lactose free) too. Sometime you can eat something one day but the next day it’s no way. Plus your senses of taste & smell can go haywire temporarily. So things you enjoyed before taste or smell awful. I found soup easiest. Also boiled eggs mashed with Mayo & a high protein yoghurt. I tried puréeing lots of meats thinning them with gravies, stock, milk, ricotta, Mayo, etc. Personally, I found puréed tinned fish disgusting but chicken thigh meat with gravy was great. It took a few tries (& thrown out meals) to find out what my tummy & taste buds enjoyed.

Meal preppers - looking for some advice/suggestions
Esi replied to Tufflaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second the Rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. If your grocery store has a seafood counter and will cook your seafood for free, baked salmon with a salt-free seasoning is terrific. Can be purchased over the weekend and divided for the week. Add some microwaveable steamed veggies. Baby food containers are perfect for our portion sizes. You can buy them online (they are made for people who want to make and store their own baby food).
