Need More Food And Eating Advice!
kittyforet replied to goody34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my nutrionist (not affiliated with my surgeon) gave me sample ideas of what I can eat when and I tried to stick to that... try to find a protein you like....i drink "The ideal Chocolate Milk" protein powder and like it. Some people like Unjury (it's not too bad), some don't. You have to find what works for you. Even 5 months out, at least 5 days a week I have a protein drink for breakfast...when I don't, I sometimes fall short of meeting my protein. you can start logging your meals at a site like myfitnesspal.com....i started that pre-op and have been pretty consistent with logging my meals. Also helps that I can see my friends' diaries to see how they get their protein in. -
Give yourself another week or so to see if your fill "settles", I've noticed a lot of people seem to have a little rougher of a time during the time following a fill. I'm guessing you're a bit swollen and your body needs time to adjust. Try drinking warm drinks in the morning to help loosen your band a bit. If you get a couple of weeks out and are still having trouble with solids and not feeling well, then perhaps it will be time to call your surgeon to get his opinion on things. Good luck!

Yup, as mentioned, my wife made me an embankment of pillows in which I nestled into. I am not a back sleeper either, so with the pillows and an afternoon nap in the recliner, I was able to get enough sleep to get by until I was able to sleep on my side. That was probably two weeks post.

3.5 Mos Out & Need Advice!
Catracks replied to kayte819's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may just be a normal stall and/or your body readjusting. I hit one at 3.5 months and am just coming out of it. Funny thing: I really did lose inches. I dropped a pant size during the "stall." You can try to shock your body out of it. but I thinks it's normal and an actually healthy part of the weight loss process. -
Feel like I didn't have RNY. Very depressed. Help?
meyouus replied to meyouus's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It looks as though I'm suggested to go on a liquid diet for five days to shrink my pouch. I will do that. I'm done eating for the day, so I'll start the liquid diet tomorrow. I do focus on Protein first, then veggies. Rarely do I eat a third item. My snacking is what my surgeon suggested, three times a day. But that was probably a suggestion for someone who is eating way less at meals. I'm just going to go back to square one. I've almost gotten there before, but come up short. Re-dedication is what's needed it seems. You've all been a help. But WHY can I eat more than you? -
DUring the week I am on the road by 7am and my band is still asleep so I go a sugar free carnation instant bfast and skim. On the weekends I do 1 scrambled egg, 1 pc bacon, 1 slice wheat toast.

What a difference ANOTHER 24 hours made...I can get liquids and food down now. I had some sausage and salad. I don't think i'll go for that unfill after all....i'll see over a few weeks how this fill is treating me, in the end i might actually still need a bit more, who knows its too early to tell. Good thing i held back. The self imposed liquids day did some good i guess. Maybe the pork had something to do with it too...either way, thanks for all your comments and suggestions.

How soon after surgery can you go swimming?
B-52 replied to Flowering man's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I was told by my Dr. to do as little as possible for the first week....THEN I had a appointment with him, 7 days from surgery, where he inspected my incisions, etc.....it was then he answered my questions about any activities I wanted to do....also post-op diet questions, etc.... You really should be asking your Dr. these questions..... Unfortunately, there are people here that feel they need to tell you what you should and should not do..... -
4 1/2 weeks post op... I have a question!
BariatricMan replied to Marathongirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm having the same issue, and we're far from alone. There are a number of posts on here about the stall that often occurs three or four weeks after surgery. I don't pretend to understand it, but I'm enduring it and hoping it ends soon! -
I can't believe it is one week away. This has been such a long process. It doesn't seem real that I am a week out. Come on April 26th!

How did you manage to fund your surgery
KamalSalem posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello there, First time here, was just wondering about how to fund all of this, any advice? I have made the decision, seen my doctor, he has an open schedule slot in about 5 weeks, but it will cost me $3000 and my insurance won't cover it, as it is not considered an ailment to be overweight where I live. Has anybody tried alternate funding options? Does it work? I tried asking the bank but I'm already stretched. I'm 33 and at 400+ pounds, I really want to get my life back on track. Edit: Can I just add that my wife is already scheduled for hers, I chose for her to go first because I have always been obese, she hasn't, and nothing would make me happier than to see her get better, we used all of our savings on her operation, and now if I start saving up, it will probably take me a couple of years, and with the current numbers, I'm not even sure our marriage will survive me being the obese partner. I'm just thinking aloud here. -
They told me it could take 6-8 weeks and it took 1. I was scheduled for two weeks from approval...for pre-op diet (which I didn't really bother with until week 2). So be prepared...I felt swept off my feet.

Hey smilan! You are doing great! I had a bad week too! On Wednesday, I heard some cookie dough calling me from the freezer. I ate it! I felt bad about it, but thought, I just gotta get back on the wagon, that's all...I LOVE chocolate and sweets. Now all the sweets taste over the top sweet though. The cookie dough tasted great, but I got a tummy ache afterward. I have to learn the hard way. Great job on going down TWO sizes!!! That is amazing! You shouldn't be too hard on yourself. We can't deny ourselves ALL sweets for the rest of our lives...right?

I have had 2 fills and was told I was in the green zone. I was on vacation and eating more than usual but I lost 8.5 lbs in 3 weeks and wasn't hungry for 5-6 hrs between meals. I didn't get a fill on the 26th. I go back in a few weeks and I think I need a fill. I am not hungry so much as I am grazing and eating all the time which is not good. They told me too about 5 fills is average. I think they were wrong when they didn't give me a fill.

You guys all sound lucky to me, all I get for my pre opt diet is skim milk, for 1 to 3 weeks. I have done Medifast and the food does suck but it was my favorite diet I always felt great when I was an it, just wished I could have stayed on it. Which is why I'm here now. Good luck to everyone. Just one step in our journey. It's WILL be worth it.

9 months post - op: What I've Learned so far...
slcnurse226 replied to KhadijahRose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you so much for sharing...it answered a lot of ?'s that I had been thinking about. Tomorrow i w be 13 weeks post-op,I've last 33#'s, but I have ms and unable to exercise or walk to make it come off quicker. -
I had my surgery yesterday. I stayed overnight since we live 3 hours away from the sugery center. Now I'm on a liquid diet for 3 days, then thick liquids for two weeks, then two weeks of mushies. My follow up visit is local and is next week. First fill I believe isn't until week 4. I'm doing great....so far my pain is really just a little discomfort and soarness....about a 1 or 2 out of 10. I was worried it would be way worse then this, but it really isn't bad at all. It is a great relief. I'm taking pain medicine only at night to help with sleeping, but I'm just fine in the day. I had chicken broth with unjury chicken soup added in for protein today. I'm not hungry at all....but I know I need to get liquid and protein in for healing. I found out my original surgeon had cornea transplants.....good god, how bad were his eyes? The replacement surgeon was awesome, he had about 20 years of doing these types of surgeries.

So, it is late Saturday night and I am thinking about this change that is coming. No, not Obama's promise but my promise to myself to loose it for life. My first consult is Tuesday morning and I am excited. I have typed a list of questions and combed the message boards looking for complaints and other experiences with the band so that I can be through at the consult. I am much interested in a surgeon that I work with however he has not been granted privileges to perform over at the west location however he is working on that. I will continue onward with this adventure of meeting the clinically late Enochs (or so is his reputation) and hope for the best. This evening I went to dinner at On The Border and realized that I may only be able to eat there for a few more weeks. Once the band is installed, it will be a while before I can enjoy fajitas again! Good thing I am not a soda addict. Hugs to myself for taking this step!

I got my date...Dec. 19th !!!!!!!
make33 replied to CajunCutie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am so tickled for you, Cajun!! What I am especially tickled with is your surgery date--you know, many are stalling until "after the holidays" to get banded ("Just one more holiday, please") and I am so proud of those who are getting banded BEFORE Christmas! (I was set up to have a second fill on December 28th and moved it up to December 21st--I want to be tight for Christmas!) So my hat (if I wore one!) is off to you!!! -
I'm so sorry you're not losing right now~~ but don't get discouraged! You're in what's called a "stall"~ a temporary period of time when the body stops losing so it can "catch up" to its weight loss. My surgeon's PA assures me it's only temporary and after the body adjusts it starts losing again. I was stalled for three weeks in my third month and am now losing again. I'm 4 month out as of tomorrow and I lost 4 pounds last week. So take a deeeep breath, and relax. You don't have to do anything different from what you're already doing~ and it will pass on its own. Talk to your surgeon or their staff about it, and they will reassure you that it's NORMAL~ and virtually everybody goes through it at some point in their weight loss journey! Best of luck to you
-
You are only a day out from major surgery, it is very normal to feel weak and have a hard time swallowing and so on. Keep trying. Walk when you can and rest when you need to. Of course you will feel better, but it can take weeks to recover from surgery. Be gentle with yourself.

I am on day 2 and I feel so week. I have a hard time swallowing and broth makes me gag. Please tell me this will go away!

Newbie - Post Op Meds
coffeelover77 replied to SuzanneRoupas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 weeks out and I have to crush my meds too. I take Lithium for depression and it's disgusting. This is what I do: i crush it and dissolve it in a little bit of Water. I hold my nose and swallow it Still holding my nose, I start chewing my Calcium supplement, then I can unplug my nose and it doesn't taste too horrible. My daughter thinks I'm hilarious and loves to watch the routine LOL Good luck! -
Newbie - Post Op Meds
Lea Anne replied to SuzanneRoupas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
all of my tablet meds have to be crushed and my paperwork says that i'll be doing this for 1 year! crappy, but it's been almost 3 months and i'm more or less used to it. some meds taste horrible so i use a pill crusher and pour them onto a spoon. then i pour a little strong flavored Water (I like Propel's blueberry pomegranate and black cherry) onto the spoon and carefully swirl the meds so they get coated. then bottom's up! i do the same with my anti-acid that comes in a capsule -- i just open the caspule and pour in into the spoon. i'm still a clutz and spill meds or the water at least a couple times a week so maybe by the 1 year mark i'll be a pro. i still get strange looks if i have to do it in public, but i think most of them are reactions to the scrunched up face i make (still after 3 months!) because my anti-depression/anxiety med tastes AWFUL!
