    Approved!

    Jetson, Until I got the approval I kept thinking it wasn't going to happen. Something was gonna go wrong. And insurance would say no. My insurance approved the surgery the same day it was submitted. I went yesterday and did my pre admission tests and filled out the forms. My surgeon wasn't there so I have to go back Thursday afternoon for that visit and get final instructions on diet and so what for final days bfor surgery. And Monday is surgery date!! So excited. And a week from tomorrow u will be going for yours, so excited for you. I totally know how you feel. :}

    Approved!

Naynay you are so right. I have been so preoccupied with worries that the surgery wouldn't happen that I trully didn't expect it to go through. Actually last week something potentially catastrophic did happen. I called my family Physician to check that he had submitted the Letter of medical necessity and I was told he wouldn't do it unless I had a physical. Of course I have seen him 8 times in the last 12 months and he never mentioned the physical. They set the date of the physical for August 5th! I was freaking out until I called the surgeon and they said that they would submit the paperwork without the letter and that they didn't expect it to matter. In the end it didn't and I got the insurance approval. Huh... my story! Anyway...Good luck with your surgery. I will be thinking about you on Monday!
  4. Well, I was going in on the 28th. But, due to a work conflict on my wife's part, we had to bump it a couple of weeks to October 12th. Not a big deal, but I still spent the better part of a couple of hours seeing if I could work out a plan to keep the 28th (drive myself, wait around the lobby for my wife to pick me up a few hours, etc). I did, however, get word from my insurance that I was approved! We were ready to go self pay if need be, but this is better. Last time, when my wife had her bypass, the hospital billed $125K for just it's part (a pre planned procedure with a two day stay and no complications. 800 (x 2) dollar morphine!!!), of which Anthem disallowed 80% or so. I wasn't looking forward to dealing with the hospital on my own without the insurance company to back me up. I know it is all a shell game between providers and insurers, but geez. My wife had an emergency gall bladder removal with an ER visit and a two day stay at a different hospital earlier last year was $35K total. I went to my one insurance required support group meeting last week. Interesting, that of 30+ people in the group, only myself and one other pre-op were going LAP-BAND®®®®. All the others , including all the post op, were sleeve or bypass. One other pre op explained she was fighting with insurance for the sleeve, though she had been approved for LAP-BAND®®®® or bypass. She was very against a foreign object in her body. She felt they all suffer from rejection and infection, no offense to the two of us going LAP-BAND®®®®. Different strokes. Cheers, Erick
  5. Welcome Gina! I had VSG on 9/2/10 and I also had a history of dvt's and pe's. I had my filter placed about 1 week before surgery, everything went fine and i'm doing well. They went in about 3 weeks after my surgery to remove the filter but they we unable to retrieve it.......the dr said that it's fine to stay there the rest of my life actually. I'm okay with that because I feel like I have protection in case I ever get another clot in my legs I know that it wouldn't be able to travel to my lungs like before. I wish you luck with you up coming procedures and your weight loss.

    Tips For Starting Exercise

I am three months out and have not dedicated any time to exercise, I know I must at some point and I have a home gym, but I too have never been much into exercise. I need something to motivate me, maybe when the scales stop moving. That will motivate me to start. I have dvds and all I am just lazy. sigh....

    Tips For Starting Exercise

I started Couch to 5k a few months after my surgery and I loved it! The program is constantly changing so it goes by really fast and the week by week progress makes you feel really proud of yourself. All you need is a pair of runners and a ipod to use as a timer. Even better download the C25K app. Hope you find something you love to do!!!
  8. guess what? i got that same taste too. unfortanetly for me i still have it. it started with my pre op Fluid diet and now one week post op i still have it, even though it is less now. i will see my doctor monday and i will bring this up. my sister (not banded) said it's because my body was detoxing from all the gunk/junk in my insestines, yuck! i kinda believe her. when growing up i remember when i told my mom that i had a "tummy ache" she would say let me see you tounge, yeah castrol oil it was...lol :/ but i agree that lots of teeth and tounge brushing really helps!!! good luck to you and keep us posted!
  9. Hi Everyone, My name is Gina. I just joined this forum last week. I came across it by accident actually. I was researching information on the Sleeve procedure and I bumped into this wonderful forum. I've been hesitant to post anything because I am just learning about the procedure and diets, etc. But, I wanted to introduce myself. I am 33 years old. I just started my 2 week pre-op diet today. I'll be having surgery on 12/20/10. This forum has been a tremendous help on what to expect and how to prepare for this upcoming event! Surprisingly, I'm not really scared, I'm excited, I can't wait to start this journey, although it won't be an easy one. Has anyone ever had the VSG and had a filter inserted for DVT? I have history of blood clots and have been on Coumadin for over a year, but, my surgeon is going to have my Vascular surgeon come in and implant the filter to avoid the blood clots. I'm pretty sure I'll have more questions coming up, but, I just wanted to introduce myself. Gina
  10. Hello all. My name is Jenn and I am new to this site. I have started my journey with VSG but have not had the procedure yet. I have had the initial consultation, insurance approval and dietitian meeting. I am new to the Texas area and am wanting to get some more information on my doctor, Dr Jerome Schrapps with Southeast Texas Bariatric Beaumont location, preferably by someone who has had the procedure. I have the diet class and psych eval next week so it looks as if things are moving right along. My family is very supportive but I am extremely nervous.

    Christus In Beaumont

Oh boy...I have Dr Dean...and he referred me to Dr Monk...after 2 weeks of trying to get in touch to schedule an appt, I called Dr Deans offc and they gave me her email. I sent her an email myself...a very nice one stressing the importance of getting the eval done as she was the only thing I was waiting on. Well, another week went by with no word so I went out and found someone on my own thru ins to do it. In the meantime, she called and got extremely RUDE with me about 3 weeks after I emailed her. Early in the morning too...so I had a few choice words for her. I come from Ft Worth. Only moved to Beaumont recently. And I have NEVER been spoken to that way by a doctor. So I was shocked, not too happy about it. And not very nice...I sure am glad I didn't have to be evaluated by her... Did either of you have hernias that had to be repaired? Did you have to do an endoscopy prior to surgery? Did the hosp require you to pay the out of pocket max up front??

    Week 3 blues

I am 5 weeks and some days (like today) I still struggle with getting enough food in. On certain days my body just isn't into it and nothing sounds appetizing or I feel full/nauseous after a few bites. My doc told me that if any food stage is a struggle you may not be ready for it and there's nothing wrong with going back to the previous stage for a while.

    Passports

I got mine in February and I'm sure glad I did. One clue to those who haven't. Get your photos done before you to the office where you're having it processed. Have your papers filled out online and printed, in hand. You don't hold up the folks standing in line behind you and pics are cheaper at somewhere like Kinkos than they are at the post office. I think it took about 6 weeks to get mine back in the mail.

    This is a trip!

You are normal. It takes time for us to adjust both mentally and physically. And, stalls are normal. Just stick to you plan. There are lots of topics on stalls, no losing, etc you can search for to read more about it.
  16. I am almost 4 weeks out and about half the time I eat I throw up and the other half I feel so sick to my tummy. I have been a major u know what since surgery. The physical part was easy the losing one of my best friends not so easy. I've been so emotion and weepy and crazy mean to my family. I'm regretting this decision lately as I just want to crawl in bed and not get out!

    Yuk! Stretch Marks

Unfortunately, if there was a sure fire cure we would know all about it. There's probably something that lessen the marks, but nothing tht makes it disappear. I have plenty of stretch marks, but only n my tummy from being preggers w/ three 10lbs babies. my thighs are way ugly and I haven't worn shorts for 25 years. But I'm happy with my weightloss so I'm ok Congrats on your loss..

    Approved!! With a snag :(

I have no clotting issues at all, am active, and have had three prior surgeries with no issue. I object because not many surgeons seem to do this, and all the literature I've pulled up have cautioned against an IVC filter because they can become dislodged.

    Future Bander from Egypt!

Hi Oz! Your age will definitely be an asset for losing weight, and your gender, too. Congratulations on this decision to turn your health around. I am three months out and thirty pounds down so far -- one third of the way to my goal. Know that you will probably experience an excellent initial loss but then there may be a slow time while you get to the right fill, then you'll go down again. Working out will be an excellent aid to weight loss so start exercising as much as possible now or maybe you are doing that already. I think that's the magic ingredient. You are going to do great!
  21. I will be post op 3 weeks on tuesday, i lost about 16lbs the first week post op while on clears, a soon as i advanced my diet to puree, i gained like 3lbs and have been stuck at my +3lb weight for almost a week and a half! Im feeling really discouraged and starting to regret my gastric sleeve decision..

    Anyone else feel like this?

Yes I feel the same way. I actually feel obssessed with this surgery. I still don't have approval from my insurance, I am waiting for the psych eval next week. But I feel like this is all I think about. I am constantly on this forum just reading and reading and reading about it. Then I go back to my doctors website and read it again just in case I missed something. I can't wait!!!
  23. I'm on day 7 of my pre-op (Band goes on tomorrow!) and I was not given a calorie goal, I have been limited to 20 grams of protein per day. (A Carnation SFInstant breakfast with 1% has 13 grams!) Amazingly, I'm OK, and I've lost 19 lbs this week.

    Anyone else feel like this?

Good job, Kaytiebug! It is important to be prepared. Just like a wedding or a new birth, you can never truly anticipate what "the after" will be like. I think you are right on by trying to get your ducks in a row. Even though it WILL be different than you expect, you'll still be ready. I did not feel well for a couple of weeks. Just take baby steps.
  25. Hi Everyone. 1st Post! I had surgery on April 10th. Two weeks as of today. Other than staying in the hospital 1 extra day because I could not move without vomiting, my result have been fairly typical so far of my expectations. I did have 1 episode where I tried to take my vitamins too quickly and ended up getting sick. And I still am having trouble getting 64 oz of fluids in daily - but I try! By biggest anxiety right now is progressing to the next level on my diet. I'm excited, but yet anxious. My doctor requires 2 weeks of liquids before progressing to pureed foods. I guess I could technically start them today; but I've decided to wait until Wednesday when I go for my nutrition and dr follow-up. I'm a little hesitant to try the next phase. I think I'm more worried because it's not so structured as what I'm doing now. And I actually have choices again. Has anyone else felt this way?? Thanks!
