    Thank you for your kind words, living in a small town doesnt make it easy and I dont have many friends here either . Its the type of town that people come and go from quite quickly. I have been waking up with what i guess you would call restless legs. I have fibromyalgia but it was in remission before surgery but it seems to have flared up again this really gets me down because i guess i thought i would feel even better loosing weight but it hasnt been the case yet .

    Thank you yes but i think i need to adjust my goal weight as i still have a lot of fat around my belly 😣 but i will get there. My surgeon didnt set me a goal weight. I just worry that a bad day will turn into days its so hot here atm its not pleasant to get outside and being a small town we dont have any malls and such .

    Thank you so much! My Dr and his nurse (the only two people I would visit) retired recently so when I call I get rude people so I stopped contacting them. Definitely gonna come here more often. I started do it again with one small meal and the rest liquids and protein shakes and I’ve already lost 5lbs (probably water weight) but with the one meal a day it helps prevent the burning sensation.
  4. I have bipolar disorder. When I was diagnosed at 14 I was started on a lot of medications that all cause weight gain. I gained 100 lbs in 2 years. I lost 50 lbs prior to surgery and have lost 45 since (I had surgery 4 months ago). It's possible to lose weight on psych meds. I found for me they caused cravings for carbohydrates and I find that if I don't eat sugar, I crave it less. Maybe that would help you?

    My surgeon was nothing but supportive. She never chastised me for not reaching goal but encouraged me to keep trying lose another 20 pounds. She understood when I gained COVID weight. But as for you . . . you're still healing from the surgery. Your body is stall adapting and adjusting. You are about to hit a stall, by the way, just to let you know that everyone stalls starting somewhere between Weeks 3 and 5. Be kind to yourself. Don't let any negativity on the office staff's part get you down. You are on a journey. Good luck!
  6. I started on Depo and Prozac in Dec. 2017. At the time, I had lost 40lbs from my highest weight. Within a year, I had gained it all back. Its hard to say how much was from each, as they are both well known for weight gain. That being said, I had VSG in Sept. 2021, so nearing 4 months post-op and I've lost about 65lbs. About 20 of that was pre-op, 45 post-op. I figure that's pretty average, given my starting BMI, age, etc. I'm now 10lbs lower than I was before I started the meds, and at my lowest ever adult weight and the loss seems to be holding pretty steady week over week.

    Therapy, meds, meditation, reading, and posting & interacting with other bariatric patients all help. I also try and focus on HEALTH not weight. Weight is just a number, it has nothing to do with your worth or value as a person. Working on your health, eating well, moving your body are a form a self-care and a privilege. It means we were given another day to live. And on the REALLY bad days, I give myself grace to stay in bed, cry, drink extra coffee, whatever. Sometimes its ok to do that, too, you just can't stay there. ❤️
  8. Hoi Renske! I’m Dutch too 😁 I know this isn’t exactly what you were looking for since I am no longer on Paxil, but I did gain a solid 15 kg on it. I was already well into the obese range when I started taking it though. After quitting (slowly over the course of three months) I didn’t have much success in shedding that weight and actually gained even more.. but I used to self-soothe with food. The weight is flying off now (4.5 months po), and it feels like my metabolism has had a big kick in the butt 😄
  9. I'm on an SSRI that causes weight gain too and it works for me after trying many different antidepressants, so I have to stick with it. They say it only adds about 10 pounds in general. So yeah, losing weight is harder when you're fighting against weight-positive meds, but it's definitely do-able.

  11. Hi! I have tried switching but it did’nt work out for me. But indeed, . Paxil is the worst when it comes to weight gain, and the hardest to taper off. but I hope someone has an answer to my intitial question
  12. Band-to-bypass patient here. I think I may have perspective that will help you considering I've been through it myself. I never lost weight with the lap band because it didn't work for me. It never reduced my appetite and it merely felt like a road block between my esophagus and stomach. Food slid through the band pretty easily (if I chewed well enough and/or ate slider foods) and considering it was much easier and more comfortable to eat that way, that's what I did. The lap band does NOTHING to stop you from eating as much ice cream or cheesy mashed potatoes as you want. With the lap band, if it's adjusted properly, you get a hard "stop" when your pouch is full. You have to be careful with the bypass because "full" is a much more gradual feeling. Eat slowly, or else you could end up eating too much and that is painful. Restriction is there but it's a gradual feeling rather than the sudden feeling of "I can't eat anymore." Keep in mind other benefits the bypass has that the lap band doesn't: malabsorption, reduced/muted appetite, and prolonged satiety. I would get hungry pretty fast after drinking water with my lap band (I always waited the 60 minutes we were told to wait and even so, the food washed right through my pouch). With the bypass I'll stay full for several hours. I get hungry but not *famished* to the point where I'm shaky and desperate. You're just 1 month post-op but it will get better feel free to PM me if you want to chat. Having had a lap band before will make this experience different for you. I'd get so frustrated when people told me the lap band was "just a tool" but it felt like someone gave me a bent screwdriver when what I needed was a jackhammer. The bypass is a much more powerful tool. I lost 20 pounds in 6 months with my lap band and then stopped. I was so frustrated with feeling miserable that I just gave up and ate what I wanted. With the bypass I've lost 101 pounds in 5 months. It's night and day, truly. Even on days when I want to give up and eat what I want, I can't. And I really appreciate that. Try eating a couple cookies and see what happens 😂 actually, don't. For me it's really bad farts but for a lot of people it results in terrible dumping so it's just not worth it. Anyway, I hope I provided some comfort for you. It will get better and you'll lose weight!!! It's such a better tool than the lap band (or as I call it, crap band!)

    Hello, I am just a week ahead of you and having much the same problems. Every time I try to eat or drink a new protein I am sick and nauseous for days. My team are worried I am loosing muscle mass as they say I have lost too much weight. I was told to eat 6 small meals. I can manage 4 tiny ones. I can eat tiny slivers of hard cheese, porridge, Melba toast, smooth pate, raspberries, Biltong, lollies, apple sauce, surimi sticks and drink a little milk. I am no where near any of my protein or water goals. I have managed all my meds and vitamins though, massive breakthrough. Lets just keep trying to do the right thing. Our teams will just have to be patient with us. I am very sure you will be a star student at the end of your journey.

    I had bad days before the surgery, I just get up and do what I have to and sack the rest. I usually feel better with a little me time. Congratulations on your weight loss journey. You are nearly at your goal. You must be thrilled.
  15. I have breakfast much later now - around 9am. Not hungry before then. Before surgery, I could never eat a bowl of rolled oats for breakfast- too heavy & I often then felt hungry for the rest of the day. Now I love my porridge & it keeps me happy for 3 hours. I remember one of the anti breakfast stories said skipping breakfast would help with weight loss or maintaining your weight. I remember because I spent many years not eating breakfast & it never helped me maintain or lose weight at all. I gained every year doing that. Mmmm??? I wonder if the anti breakfast position is really just against those big heavy full breakfast fry ups, waffles or pancakes stacks drizzled with sugar laden maple syrup, cream, whipped butter, etc. style breakfasts??? But as I say all the time, you just have to discover what works for you whether that is eating breakfast or not. All because I do & it works for me doesn’t mean it will work for you.
  16. There are a couple of things you can pretty much depend upon after weight loss surgery. One: the more you have to lose the faster you’ll lose at the beginning. Two: the heady exciting weight loss rate you have at the beginning doesn’t continue. Three: the closer you are to your goal weight the more slowly you’ll lose. Welcome to experiencing the frustration of number three. The scale that hardly moves. Your goal weight is just there in touching distance. The days & weeks slowly pass with little to show…. But don’t worry, you will get there. Your weight loss is slowing because you’re eating more & are getting to the point where you are consuming the number of calories your body needs to function. Congrats on your weight loss so far. Whoo hoo!
  17. just wanted to say that a lot of SSRI's are known for that - and I think Paxil is one of the worst. It's too bad your doctor won't switch to you another SSRI - some aren't as notorious for weight gain as others.
  18. I didn’t really eat any fruit during weight loss phase save for the occasional berry when i got closer to goal. I did eat some veggies (kale, lettuce, spinach) but only if i had room after eating my protein…which didn’t happen very often. The only dairy i ate during weight loss phase was cottage cheese and plain greek yogurt…and if I remember correctly I didn’t start eating these until about month 5 (i’m lactose intolerant). And finally, I actually didn’t follow my prescribed program. They wanted me to be at 1200 cals by month 3, with a macro split of 50%~25%~25% of low-glycemic veggies, protein, and starches respectively. I got nowhere close to that. I came up with my own program through research and trial and error. I did tell my NUt about what i was doing, and while she did tur-tut me about maybe eating more, she wasn’t overly concerned (especially since my labs always came back satisfactorily) and was actually always the first one to rave about my weight loss progress. So, go figure. ***And again, i want to stress to any readers of this to do your due diligence and consults with professionals before embarking on any drastic food intake changes. This worked for me. It may or may not work for you.

    I think your weight loss sounds good. I was a slow loser and I am sitting (stalled unfortunately) at 9 pounds from goal now. It’s not a race to get there as long as you are losing and continue losing you will be fine. Honestly you are eating such small portions it doesn’t matter that much what you are eating now (within reason). My plan even included things like mashed potatoes on the purée phase which others cringe at. I think because of situations just like yours where it is all you can get down and you have to eat something.
  20. Hi all! I’m from the Netherlands and I can’t seem to find any answers to my questions , so Hopefully I can find some answers here 🙂 hope so! I’m looking for women who have gained weight DUE to Paxil, like me. I went from 70 kg to 96 kg on these meds (for ocd) and tried to switch, without succes. I have to take Paxil the rest of my life. (I also tried to get off them very very slowly but it seems impossible. Tried everything, visited everyone, work out with a person trainer for two years now, eat healthy etc. Can’t get the weight off!! and I’m even gaining more. I don’t have excessive cravings and I always used to have a healthy weight. I wonder if any WLS will help me, as it seems to be more a metabolism problem than an eating problem? Anyone here who had WLS because they gained due to taking an SSRI ((Prozac, Effexor, lexapro etc) ? And not (only) because of eating too much but maybe also because your metabolism seems to have slowed down? and…did it work for you? thanks so much in advance ladies!

Just said cut down on normal food. After four weeks doing liquid soft and puree food. Is there anything research or information on this site. I’m 24, 173cm, my pre-op weight was : 256lbs (116kg) Surgery weight : 113kgs (249) Month 1 : -9.7kgs (21 lbs) Month 2 : -5.5kgs (12 lbs) Month 3 : -5.7kgs (13 lbs) Month 4 : -2.3 kgs (5 lbs) Month 5 : -3.1 kgs ( 7 lbs) Month 6 : so far -4,3 kgs (9lbs) Current weight : 83 kgs It’s been 6 months and 11 days since my surgery and I’ve lost 33 kgs since my preop weight. As you can see, sometimes the loss is very minimal, but visually I’ve lost a lot of inches, I’ve had a lot of stalls, but you have to focus on something else and remember that even if the scale isn’t budging you are STILL loosing and you’re still having amazing non scale victories. I’m still 13kgs from my goal weight, but since I started lifting weights, I don’t care about that goal weight and I just want my body to be strong and lean regardless of the number on the scale.   23. I have a FitTrack Dara scale. I love the data aspect in the app, ability to track multiple family members, and other health metrics. I don't like the app itself, its very clunky. Its a new version and I MUCH preferred the old one. But customer service was great when I made the update and things got a little wonky, so that's a plus. I have not had a body scan to compare to, but weight matches very closely to my Drs scale and is consistent with my regular digital scale. I use it for weight loss and we use it for my son for growth tracking (he has some chronic health stuff) and its been great for both. For sure not necessary, but handy if you're a numbers/data person.
  24. It's very normal to regret surgery early on - many people do, and it's easy to see why. You're in pain from gas and the incisions, your weight hasn't gone down (and may have even gone up!) due to all the fluid pumped into you during the surgery - as a side note, STAY AWAY from the scale for the first month!! And you may want to eat but cannot, you probably feel nausea and fatigue. Recovery SUCKS. Then ketosis symptoms set in. For me it was dry mouth, leg cramps when walking up a hill, brain fog, and general fatigue. I drank my 64 ounces of water a day and still had cotton mouth. It was crazy. That being said... being in ketosis means you're burning all your fat stores to stay alive so you just cope with it. My dietician said you could resolve the symptoms temporarily by drinking 24 ounces of juice for 3 days. But the thought of drinking something so sweet made me want to gag so I never did that. Anyway, IT DOES GET BETTER. When you step on the scale 4 weeks after surgery you'll see the number has dropped significantly. Your clothes will start feeling looser. The pain and nausea will subside. And you'll start to feel closer to normal. Every week it'll get a little better. Eventually your energy levels will normalize, and then they will increase as you get slimmer. It's fantastic. I'm 5.5 months out now and feel great. I can eat relatively normally (albeit much smaller portions than I used to) but nothing bothers my tummy. My appetite is back but it's not impossible to ignore like it used to be. I feel 20 years younger and am in really good shape. I love being able to take stairs without losing my breath, bend over and pick things up off the floor without my joints and back aching, chasing my kids around, walking fast, and crossing my legs It all is worth it in the end!! Hang in there!

    Wth have I done to myself panic…

    It's normal to have "buyers' remorse" after surgery. It took me 3.5 months to finally feel comfortable enough that I didn't regret my surgery. It's definitely not the easy way out. I had lost 100 lbs a few years ago "on my own," and this is definitely harder. There is so much to adapt to. But I gained that 100lbs back and there's a good chance I will not gain the weight back after surgery. I too have had tiny pieces of cakes and other sweets. I have to be careful though, because these foods "slide" right down even if I'm full.
