    Feeling Discouraged :(

Hi Jessie--- So sorry that you are having trouble. I'm only a few weeks out, but I was just remembering that years ago when I was WW I had hit a wall also. My leader suggested adding more fish in lieu of another Protein and it actually helped. You might want to try that. Hope that works. Also, if your practice has a nutritionist, it might be a good person to reach out too.
  2. I'm doing pretty good, started my pre op diet at 414.5 now i am around 385. Anyone got some suggestions on what i should start eating this week before i try solids next week. I have done eggs, string cheese, juices, protein shakes, Broths, and water. I bought sugar free pops, pudding, and unsweetened apple sauce help me out on some other things.

    Ate fast food....

IN general, fast food isn't particularly healthy, but its certainly easy to make bariatric friendly choices. 1) stay away from anything deep fried. Stick with grilled options. Nothing with breading, no fries, onion rings or tots. 2) stay away from carbs. Order the sandwich but toss the bun. Some places even let you order it "low carb" and they wrap the burger in lettuce. No soda, lemonade, milk shakes, Cookies, pies, or high calorie coffee drinks. 3) salads can be a good choice but be smart about the dressings, croutons, etc. 4) Taco Bell refried Beans, Wendy's chili and soft meats like Arby's roast beef or ham are probably better options for you so soon Postop. Better safe than sorry when it comes your newly stitched and still healing sleeve. I actually wasn't cleared for solid food till 6 weeks postop. I actually eat fast food 3-4 times/month, but my choices are pretty much pure Protein (and fat - which has never affects my maintenance)

3.5 weeks no prob eating WORRIED

Sometimes it's easier to avoid the social situations until your stomach settles a little. I haven't told anyone except my husband and I like it that way. But you have nothing to be ashamed about. Anyway I'm glad to hear your stall passed. They often do so remember this for the next stall but trust me when I say there will be others.
  5. I am getting the band on 10/12 and I just started my period today and was wondering if anyone out there knows if this will stop the surgery. I sure hope not, I have waited so long for this, and have been on my two week pre-op and everything. I have never had a regular perirod due to my PCOS, but it always seems to come at the most inconvient times. I guess I can thank that to losing 8.4 lbs in 2 weeks...I just don't know what to do and need some help. Thanks in advance!!! Jess

    What's your energy level like?

I am almost 2 weeks post op. My energy level is better than it was before the surgery. I started going out window shopping at 5 days post op. I did get weak in the store and feel like I was going to pass out. But, i had been out for about 2 hours. The next day I went out again for about 4 hours. I felt better, but was tired when I was done. On the third day out I almost felt like myself again. All of that was on the liquid diet (300-600 calories/day). I was making sure I was getting in my protien shakes (90g protien) everyday. Now that I am on mushies, I still get most of my nutrition from the shakes. I did Zumba for the first time last night. I had plenty of energy to keep up with it. Good luck to you. You can do it!

    where'd it go?

I have lost about 17 pounds in the 2 weeks since my surgery. I was a bit disappointed that I haven't really been able to SEE the weightloss, nor have I noticed it in any of my clothes. I read on here someone talked about losing 16 pounds and being able to put clothes into their "too big" section. I don't have one of those sections in my closet and so far none of my clothes want to make the plunge into being the first in that section. So, yeah, I was a bit disappointed. Until I looked at myself in the mirror today (really looked)...and realized that my face is a bit skinnier. And a ring that I originally bought to wear on my middle finger but has been being worn on my ring finger, right hand....now fits in it's originally intended spot. And my engagement ring...forget about it. It's waaaaayyy to big for my finger. Sure, I miss wearing it, I'm gonna go get one of those ring guards, but it's nice to actually NOTICE the weight loss. I have my 2 week post-op appointment tomorrow and I get to start eating pureed foods. So excited about that, since I miss eating hot foods. I'm tired of popcicles and cold shakes. non-weight stuff: I'm done with Christmas shopping! Wheeeeee!
  8. I'm not a doctor but it sounds like diverticulitis. I had a flare of that about my third week along with a UTI. The same antibiotic took care of both so I would see your doctor as soon as you can. My problem was I didn't know who to contact, my bariatric dr, my family dr or my surgeon. I ended up with my family dr.

    Feeling Discouraged :(

Do measure if you haven't already. I was a very slow loser too... Do you use MFP or something like that to really look at the composition of what your eating? I really need to, or I start to gain. I have had many stalls, non for 3 months*, have you actually lost none in three months, or only a little in three months... ? * Actually, that is not true, at a year and a half out I gained weight, and it took me around a year to get it all off and get to goal, so really, that was a stall-gain on a grand scale!

    Why does weight loss slow?

I track everything I put in my mouth. I am two weeks out so I'm not cleared for exercise yet. I can only eat mushies.

    Patience Pays Off

Well hooray! I got on the scale Friday and finally saw the "catch up" loss I was waiting for - 8 pounds. I knew that the laws of physics would have to kick in at some point. I had gotten so fearful that I went to eating almost nothing but protein shakes and fish and veggies for dinner. Religiously avoiding simple carbs and any sugars just to be sure it wasn't me doing something wrong. But at 800-1000 calories, how could I NOT lose even if I did eat bread?!?! So, patience paid off. Everyone said to hang in there, stick to the plan, lots of logical reasons why the scale wasn't moving and of course, that was all true. I felt such a relief when I got on that scale. And you know what, DAMN IT! Damn that damn scale for having the power to make or break my week. But it's a bit like a drug... when I see a drop I get soo happy and I want that feeling! But then I let the flip side just crush me. Gotta stop that. Gotta see this as a long term change and if I don't lose this week, then it'll be next week. Who cares when in the next year or so, so long as it's an overall downward trend, which it will be if you really change the lifestyle permanently. Right....? I still want my drug... So tomorrow is weight in day.. let' see if I'm truly over the stall and there will be a nice 2-3 pound, more regular, steady loss to cheer me on to victory.

    Anyone else..

Haha, of course I am satisfied with my loss so far (even with 5kgs of it being pre-op loss) I am just now at that point I think where I am constantly worrying about not continuing to lose weight as I have now been on a plateau with my weight for about 2 weeks. Unfortunately, because I have been overweight my entire life, I am one of those people who can lose 30kgs and still not see a change in appearance if the scales don't tell me its happening and that's exactly how it is at the moment. I'm concerned that I'm going to be eating to much as I don't have another fill/appointment with my doc until September 9 and I am already starting to get more and more hungry (although I still get full a lot faster than pre-op)and I am now able to tolerate a lot more foods than I have been able to up until this point. I guess I just wanted to know that I'm not the only one who is concerned that the band is doing it's job properly and about gaining weight even with it in. It is normal to have weeks here and there that we won't lose weight isn't it? It's just hard to fathem not losing weight continuously and these stand still weeks have not helped my paranoia! lol Thanks though for all the congrats guys!

    3 Month Post Op Visit

Thanks very much for the replies and support. The visit went well, he is pleased with my weight loss but is now insisting that I exercise on a regular basis. I know this but mentally the idea of losing calories when I am eating so few is a major challenge, has been from the beginning. The labs were a little questionable since I had a delay in finding Vitamins that could be tolerated after surgery. Vitamin D was low but it's been so since before surgery so that does not concern me right now. My cholesterol jumped 20 points in three months(!) and my AC1 is elevated. I have NEVER had an elevated glucose level, fasting or not, and this has set me on edge. Doc says this was the body reacting to surgery over the time period and the new way of eating but still. I have a visit scheduled with my PCP in about a week and will have her pull labs again to double check these results.

    Will my marriage survive?

I think all of our partners become insecure even more so if they are insecure to begin with. My hubby has made a few comments as well about me changing. Oh well! At this point i really hope he will see that i am still the same person that i was pre-op except i eat alot less. And you are right in a few weeks when she has surgery she will completely understand exactly how you are feeling! Hope things get better!

    New to this group

I had my surgery on Dec. 8th and the liquid diet was very hard for me but I had lots of broth and black coffee. I'm 6 weeks out and down 23 lbs. it was so worth it! Keep your mind on your dream and distract yourself any way you can.
  17. The LB program at my hospital uses a particular Protein shake for the pre-op liquid diet they require (mine was two weeks), HMR. I was shocked when I read the ingredients. Artificial sweeteners, etc. I had to meet with the nutritionist and have her sign off on something else. I chose a product called Thorne Mediclear and I did well with that. It's such a personal preference, a Protein Shake. Post-op I didn't do much in the way of protein shakes -- they felt too thick to me and maybe I was just so sick of them from the pre-op. Once back on food (protocols vary but mine was one day Clear liquids then on to full liquids for a week, mushies for a week and slippery foods for a week then real food chewed very well), I learned to go for protein first as a policy. That's how I get my protein -- through my food. A shake doesn't really hold me, and the band works when we chew our food and swallow it -- that signals the brain and we find satiety. A shake does not do that but plenty of people have a shake as part of their own protocol and that works for them. You'll find what works for you, too. I used to take a lot of Vitamins and supplements but these days I am down to one supplement (for arthritis) and am just adding Vitamin-D back in now that we're losing our light. I still prepare Vitamin strips for my kid (stressed out college student) and my husband, but I find I am eating so well that I am not lacking any nutrients. Also I'm exercising like crazy and that has done wonders for my immune system. Hope this helps! We are all different, of course, and surgeons have different approaches as well -- seems like one way were all the same is that we end up with extra Protein powder we don't know what to do with later! Good luck to you -- I can tell from your enthusiasm you are going to do beautifully!

  21. At the time of my surgery I was a server in a restaurant and had a lot of physical duties. I was back to work in 3 weeks.

  23. Age: 19 Sleeved: October 17th 2017 SW: 297 CW: 255 GW: HEALTHY AND HAPPY. I’m almost 8 weeks post op and I’m down 42 pounds! I’m ahead of my surgeons program (at 12 weeks I should be down 50 pounds so I’m alittle ahead). I know everyone is different when it comes to this and how we use this tool but I’m just curious on other peoples experiences, how fast they lost with types of diet and exercises they do. 24. Started my journey back in April of this year. I had to do 6 months for insurance and just by following their plan (plus the pre-op diet); I lost almost 40 lbs. Surgery date: 10/30/17 Age: 44 HW: 380 back in March/April SW: 343 CW: 305 Goal: 225-235 Never, in my wildest dreams, could I ever image the surgery would work this well. Granted, in no way am I disappointed, but thought I'd experience slower loss. However it seems I can average 3-5lbs per week. My next small goal is to see my weight go below 300 lbs!
