Hey Gang As you know jury duty this morning - have to go back next monday - it's a muder trial - haven't been picked yet - today they just talked to pple who could legally be excused. Meredith - I was like Apples full liquids as day after surgery - Protein shakes - creamed Soups, sf pudding - sf popsicles - sf pudding - dannon lite & fit yogurt - My doc sells Protein stuff - I love the brand proti15 I think it's called they are a clear liquid Protein drinks (like crystal lite) 70 calores & 15 grams protein Mushies - refried Beans, instant mash tatoes made with skim milk to boost the protein, egg beater - oatmeal - i think I even had spag sauce with ricotta cheese . I usually got most of my protien from pt shakes & the clear protien in the beginning - they make an unflavored protein that I would add to stuff but had to be warm curdle @ 130 degrees. Your doc should be giving you a list - My doc gave me a binder full of what to eat at each stage and there is a food thread on the main page that has tons of ideas. Bariatric Advantage is a good website too to get stuff - you can get the clear protein drinks there.. I am all about the homemade food too - it's more satisfying. I would make a pot of beans - pinto or navy beans - scoop out the beans and puree them add back to bean juice - cream of bean Soup Laura - a tweak may help - I am a big nite time eater still - I can manage my hunger during the day but nites are hard - I budget my calories to compensate/feed my hunger at night when I don't have as much will power Charlene - What is making the diverticulis act up and ya you sound tight - I have been having tmi problems but that's cuz I haven't been drinking like I should. Keep us posted Hugs.. Blklab - Ya you gotta chop up those big pills - I ate mine in pudding - but a plus is now I no longer need that pb med.. Barb - I wish I could break the night eating - it's better - it's controlled - but it's still there... Linda - I like fruit too but don't tend to eat it at home - but have it at work for bf or those times that I just can't ignore my hunger Ok gang - sorry this was short but got on the computer at 6 it's now 8 - I had a call from a lady who's going to be banded next month she lives in NY area - and then DIL called to tell me they are home safe and sound.. I need to go cook - so will talk to you all in the morning... Hugs

Linda - I missed this post earlier. I am trying to make some small changes but with the help of my Diabetes Educator and my Shrink I see Tues. I know I can do it. I did it before I can do it again. I just don't want to be stuck in this cycle of losing and gaining anymore that is where I pray the shrink will help. Janet - I decided to move my LB appt. That is not the problem right now anyway it is my head. I agree with this "I think we just put our heads in the sand - and after a while it's just to hard to think about losing the weight - ie this is where the band comes in play to help - but it's not the magic cure all - it's only a tool to help us - as I alway say the real work is up to us.. Food is our drug of choice and a non food addict really just doesn't understand this.. It's what I controlled when I had no control over all that was going on in my life.. " Do you think you changed your addiction from food to exercise or is food still your addiction you just have it controlled? Also is your eating automatic meaning you eat the same things for the most part everyday? I have your meal ideas you sent me, I was just wondering. I saw somewhere if you can automake 1 meal everyday that is less to worry about meaning having the same thing for Breakfast. I guess that would be boring but then you knew what you were eating and did not have to think about it that could help. My problem is planning food. I can plan dinner for the house but I forget about me when shopping, except I always by greek yogurt. That is what I have to learn to do plan for me in regards to food. Somehow I miss the part where Julie's band was being removed. I agree I pray the band might have been the problem all along and having it remove might get rid of all her pain.

Hey Girls! I had a Janet moment at the grocery store today too! I was in the dairy aisle after I picked up my fat free yogurt and was walking past the cheese. You see, cheese is my absolute downfall. There were these containers of cheese spread and cheese dip. I love all of that crap. Well, NOT TODAY!!!!! I looked at it for a longing few seconds and said to myself "Self, it is not worth it! You do not want that, and it is going to make you fat!" Then I felt like I wanted to stick my tongue out at it. I didn't, but man, was it tempting. I won that battle. I am envious of all of your travels!!! Have a wonderful time Apples and Great. Be safe but have soooo much fun. The both of you deserve it. Lori~ Any news on your daughter and the baby? Did the test results come back yet? Did I miss something? I try to keep track of each post, but somtimes I am trying to multi-task. Also, WTG on your exercise!!! Jodi~ That party sounds like something!!!! Wow. She is a lucky girl. I will try to get back on for more later, but I am going to spend some time with Andrew now. food for the day: Breakfast~ Slim Fast Lunch~ 1/2 of Protein drink, 4 cubes of cheese, 4 "party tray" sized slices of salami Dinner~ 4-5 oz chicken Breast (poached in Balsamic Vinegar, low sodium chicken broth, water), mixed veg, 1/2 redskin potato Haven't calculated calories, yet, but around 800.

Good Morning! Thank Goodness it's back. What in the heck do these people do? I did send Alex a PM. This morning I looked for the thread I started and it's not there - so weird. It was sunny and 35 yesterday! Wow -- hope it gets that nice again today. Currently it's 12. My neighbor across the street knitted me a pair of mittens with the fingers/thumbs open -- so sweet = but they really help -- I wore them last night - it helps keep me warmer in the house -- I just can't get warm enough no matter what I wear -- my DH will be sweating and I'll be freezing. That the worst drawback to having had this surgery - yesterday at work I wore 2 long sleeve sweaters, wool socks with boots on and still had to have my heater blasting away -- everyone else was fine -- in fact some were complaining it was too hot. Kab welcome back -- as Janet said, let us know what your food is. Did you surgeon stress the 4 rules? They are: Protein first, no snacking, drinking 64 oz of Water each day and exercising. Through my experience I have learned to remoe the carbs from my diet. Here's what I ate yesterday (and is my normal daily food). Breakfast: 1/4 cup strawberries/blueberries (no sugar) and half a banana mixed with greek yogurt. Lunch: 1/2 can of canned chicken breast mixed witih 1 wedge of light laughing cow cheese, sugar free Jello cup and sugar free popsicle. Dinner: Baby greens, onions and tomato, another wedge of light laughing cow garlic/herb cheese, grilled chicken breast tossed with light sesame salad dressing, sugar free pudding with added Protein powder and sugar free jello. Sometimes I add a Protein shake in the morning -- a couple times a week. If I do get hungry between a meal, I'll eat some sugar free jello or pudding to satisfy it or maybe a cup of coffe -- that seems to help stave off my hunger. Once a week or so I'll have a bag of 100 calorie popcorn as a special treat. I'm trying to lose the last 6 pounds or so. I exercise one hour every day -- occasionaly I take a day off - when I feel I need it -- sometimes I feel so energized I don't. Today I'm going to a Zumba class and then will lift weights. I lift weights at least twice a week -- it's important to build your muscles so you can burn calories more efficiently. Don't worry about what people at the gym think -- just do it for you - maybe the guy on the treadmill next to you used to weigh 400 lbs. - you don't know -- so just do it. Hope some of this can help you. this is not a diet, it's a lifestyle - a lot of us here have lost the majority of our weight and are either maintaining or fine tuning -- so between us we do have a wealth of information, but the bottom line is: it's not a magic cure -- YOU still have to work at making the lifestyle changes. You've accomlished so much in your life -- you can tackle this one too. Congrats on getting the band and continue to check in here daily -- it really really helps -- trust us, we all did and we're happy we stuck around. Apples, glad you liked costco - I haven't been in probaly almost 25 years -- been going to Sam's club the past 15 or so. Woudl be fun to see the difference -- when I come to Tuscon (some year) you and Eva can take me. You better believe I'm heading directly to Tuscon when I get that motor home. LOL Janet I'll have to check out those cookbooks -- love taste of home anyway -- thanks for the information. Lori, hope you have a good time in Denver -- my DS adn DIL are there this weekend -- skiing. Our bookstore in town is having a formal tea next Sat. for 4-6 year olds, so guess who I signed up? I can't wait - she's going to love it. Arelene, did you survive the storm? Gosh that was terrible weather for you. Hope all is well. Cheri, hope you're doing better too. Have a good weekend everyone. I have Zumba at 9:30 -- not normally held on Sat - she's making up for that one day when there was a storm -- Iwish she'd do it every SAt -it's a nice time to go and much more enjoyable than working out all alone. Yes, I buy premade meals. Another member recommended the Real Good Food brand. They have a lot of high protein low carb foods that you can throw in the microwave. I also do the high calorie, high protein premier protein bars. As mentioned, they are high calories but have tons (30grams) of protein. I don't find myself hungry very often so these work great as a meal for me. I will also do foods I dont have to cook like deli meats, cheese, yogurt, oatmeal, and fruits. You have lost almost 20 lbs and that’s great!!! What are you eating right now? Have you added to liquids? Are you staying in a calorie range? I had surgery on the 2nd and after week 1 could add drinkable yogurts and runny soups blended.. 60-80 g of protein and a 600-800 calorie range. I noticed I didn’t loose the first two days (was even up) of adding the soup and yogurt. Maybe you are just adjusting?

    October 2018 Sleevers

I'll be hitting the year mark on the 29th. I FINALLY started feeling a bit better about a month ago. I can finally eat more than yogurt without pain/getting sick. So, SO thankful. My first few months, I was creating such good habits - cooking every night, eating healthy stuff. When I started feeling like death in February, all that went out the window because all I could eat was soft foods like yogurt, cheese, or milk. So, here I am, nearly a year out, and I have to start over trying to create the healthy habits. And for some reason it seems harder now than right after surgery, but I'll do it. Now that I can eat, my loss has slowed. I'm up and down a lot, still about 1-2# down in a month. I'm down 135 total, 114 since surgery. Lost 90% EWL and am down to a 26.7 BMI. I'm now a 12/14 (depending on the brand), down from a 24/26. But I still look super flabby. We'll see how it all shakes out now that I can actually eat.

    Before and After Pics

I'm so sorry to hear that. It sounds like a nightmare. Good luck! I sure hope everything works out for the best this time. It's so scary to hear this, I just got sleeved 11/11/15. Having some problems but mine sounds pretty petty and minimal compared to yours . I too have a problem with acid reflux sometimes and had to go to ER Sunday night because I was dehydrated from vomiting after trying to mix the Greek Triple Zero yogurt with my carton of Premier Protein shake. And I mixed it with my little ninja like blender and it has a lot of bubbles afterwards and I think that's what starts it. I feel a rabid dog foaming at the mouth and my throat tries to close up. Second time, so that's it for me , never again. Good luck though, I pray it gets so much better.
  9. I just cannot do yogurt taste like sour milk to me and I am worried when I get to that stage.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

I'm 1 week out. Been getting a lot of rest. When I drink the gas seems to have lessened. I was able to get through a yogurt this morning without having to put it back due to gas pains. Still have another week until pureed. I did try some crab meat last night and it didn't cause any gas or discomfort. I go to dietiation on Tuesday gonna ask if I can move forward earlier. Start vitamins tomorrow.

    September surgery buddies!!

Hey there. mine is sept 20 too. My doctor only gave me a 1 week pre op and he said to have a broth based soup and an egg. I started it two weeks out anyway because I wanted to get my body used to the diet since it’s similar post opp. It is definitely a struggle but it gets better. I have less headaches now than I did Monday, and I find myself less irritable. Wednesday was really bad I was so so hangry. I would encourage you to check with your doc or nutritionist to see if anything else can be added like a Greek yogurt or jello. Or even the soup broth. good luck. We’ve got this!

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Well I did day 2 of Week 4 today and it was really hard! I didn't do so well today. I probably didn't have enough food in me. Ever since my car accident on Monday, I haven't been able to get much food down. Sometimes my band feels tighter than other times... usually stress does it. So lately, I can only get about 1/2 of what I usually eat down, and often not even that. This morning I didn't have any fruit, yogurt or my Cereal left (grocery day), so all I had was a meal shake before my run. I don't usually have these but its all that was there. So right from the start of the run I knew I was going to have a tough time. I did the first 3 & 5 min interval ok, but then the 2nd 3 min interval I had to slow it way down. Then the final 5 min interval I had slow way down and to do in 3 segments: 2 min/1.5 min/1.5 min, walking for a minute each in between. I don't feel very good about it, but I'll take it! I don't think I'll move onto week 5 until I can do the full run confidently. Next week my DH is on vacation, so we are going to go out one day and run together... his idea, not mine! It will be my first outside run.
  13. HI, I have eggs or oatmeal also for breakfast and sometimes greek yogurt. BUt the yogurt doesnt always do the trick. If you can tolerate toast, try to make an egg and place it on the whole wheat toast like an open faced sandwich and if you really want to, you can put some chesse on top. The protein will hold you for a while. I have had salad too with no problem. I was told that iceberg and some other crunch lettuce is easier to tolerate that the mixed greens, (which I like better, but I too was craving a salad). With some grilled chicken or tuna, it makes a nice lunch and you feel somewhat normal!! The deli-meat wrapped with lettuce leaves is also a great lunch and it is satisfying. I crave salt more than sweet, so that helps too. I put some mustard on the lettuce and had a sandwich (well, kinda!)! I love all the suggestions, they are so helpful! So far, I havent had any trouble with anything, except red meat, which got stuck and that was AWFUL! I get my fill on Tuesday and I am a bit anxious, but I cant wait to feel restriction. I actually looked up band slippage, because I feel nothing. I am assuming I would be in pain if it slipped. I am always thinkiing the worst!! So, I eat small meals and all is good. Good luck purpleshell and let me know if eating breakfast helps you. My NUT said to eat real food for your meals and have liquid type of stuff in between. If you want a protein shake have it for a snack. That will help you go longer between meals and not feel starving when its time to eat. Amy~Good luck with the salad. Try a little bit and you should be OK.

  17. Hello, I am in the "I need a fill" group, LOL! I have my second fill scheduled for Feb. 4th. I hardly have any restriction right now and am anxious to get losing some more. I can eat anything I want, just slowly and mindfully. I eat scrambled or fried eggs most mornings. I like the Greek yogurt, too but have it between meals if I am really hungry. I have been exercising most days and journaling. Keep up the good work, Joan
  18. hello everyone, So Im starting my pre op diet very soon and I am a lil confused as to calorie and carb intake.... Is there a certain amount of calories and carbs we should be limiting ourselves to during the pre op diet?? I was told to do one week of : 3 Protein shakes A DAY ALL THE Water I CAN DRINK ALL THE YOGURT I CAN EAT ALL THE broth I CAN EAT ALL THE juice I CAN DRINK NO PULP AND I CAN HAVE sugar free Jello AS A TREAT. It sounds as if there is no limit to how much..... I purchased the Ensure clear and it has 180g cals and 35gcarbs, seems to be a lot....does this sound like something I should be drinking on a daily basis?? also the Ensure clear only has 9g protein which seems pretty low, is there a certain amount of protein I should be getting during the pre op?? Should I get the Ensure shakes they have 25g protein also should I be taking the little protein shots during the pre op?? Also what about the 3 day laxative I hear that people had to take should I do that even though I wasnt told to?? I see that each surgeon has different requirements but I just want to make sure I am taking the best route to lose as much as possible. Any ideas/adivce would be appreciated thanks so much 17 days to go yay!!

3 Weeks Post Op, And Get To Add More Foods Now! :)

Well I'm now 3 weeks post-op, and I went in to my nutritional appointment at my sleeve doctor's office this morning. I now get to add eggs, cottage cheese, low fat cheeses, fish, canned chicken, tuna fish, beans(like black beans, kidney beans, soy beans) I can also have chili, and soups with beans now! It seems so great to be able to have more variety of things to eat! I was so sick of protein shakes, yogurt, and the few other things I could only have for the passed 5 weeks! At least at Christmas time I will get even more choices by then too. I have been feeling better day by day, and my 5 incisions are almost completely healed now as well. I have lost a total of 69 pounds now since last April 2012 when I started my weight loss journey, and I have lost 15 more pounds since my sleeve surgery 3 weeks ago. I'm running out of clothes that fit me, because most are way to big for me now! What a great feeling to have clothes that a TO BIG! LOL I actually had to give my little sister some of my old clothes, because she wears 26 W like I use to wear. I'm now in a size 20 W, and it won't be long I'll be in a size 18 W. I'm hoping I will wear an 18 by my husband's shop Christmas party December 15TH, and get me a new outfit to wear to the Christmas party. Last Christmas I went to the shop party wearing a size 26/28 W, 3 piece black pant suit. I was so self conscience the whole time at the party that I couldn't really enjoy myself. I looked around and thought, "I'm probably the fattest one here"! I couldn't wait to leave the party that night! This year I'm hoping my weight loss will help my self esteem, and I can enjoy myself with my husband this year. I have to get me an outfit that I feel good in, pretty, and allot thinner in. Better, healthier, thinner days are a head of me now, and I can't wait!

    Our 1 Year Bandiversaries

My 1 year Bandanniversary was in December. Life has been crazy, sad and I'm stalled. I'm working to get back into the groove of recording everything I eat and making better choices in foods. My son was killed in Afganistan in October of 09, My brother in law passed away from cancer in October 09, I've gained around 20 lbs since then and have added candy bars and cheetos to my diet... Yes I know bad bad bad. I went through a period of being too tight...or maybe it was grief and my pouch was topsy turvy and I couldn't get good things in and resorted to liquids for my lunch and dinner. (Soups mostly) There were times I couldn't even get yogurt down. I wanted to come back and see how everyone was doing and be a bit whinny cause I know everyone will understand.
  21. Sooo I did have a drinkable yogurt. I turned around and my four year old has a yogurt mustache. She looks at me and smiles real big. I can't get mad...she's so cute!! Lol
  22. Given that we had the surgery on the same day.. does it hurt your stomach or put pressure on your stable line when u eat chicken and veggies? I thought i messed up when i had a little bit of mash potatoes.. i put sour cream on it to make it softer.. i was on a date and my date doesnt know about my surgery so i had to play it off.. of course i had to pack it to go and then gave it to him to take home. But i aas worried that mashed potatoes were too much.. plus another question.. earlier that day i actually finished a whole yogurt my stomach felt soo fulll i started getting scared that i stretched something... how do i know if my sleeve is still good? Im scared of the full feeling.
  23. This a good warning for me to be prepared when I go back to work. Food prep is going to be essential to staying mostly on plan. what did you do? I think I would have made a wawa run and got some soup or yogurt.
  24. Thank you! I also said the same thing about cheese... i will change anything! ... except the cheese that's one part of me i will hold on too [emoji23][emoji23]. I'm sacrificing alot more for a healthy life. I also dont care about yogurt so i'm not going to include it in my diet at all... i prefer to save those calories for cheese when i'm able to eat it. When you say plant based.. what exactly did you buy that's plant based?

    December 2012 Post Op Group

The only way I get mine in is if I do 2 protein shakes a day with 20g+ of protein each. I always have a greek yogurt which is another 12 to 16 depending on the brand and then my other 2 meals are usually refried beans and salsa or canned chili with beans/turkey, sometimes beef. I also sometimes will have an egg with a sprinkle of cheese on it for a meal. I hope this helps some....but I have to still do the shakes to get it all in since my meals are so small.
