  1. I had an unsettling situation occur last week when I was at a work related conference. I was with about 6 other ladies when they started being disrespectful about the weight of another attendee. I was stunned! I immediately thought 'how could they say this stuff in front of me?' I just looked looked around at them in shock. Then it dawned on me; they think I'm one of them! They didn't know that 9 months ago I was her size. I felt like a closeted fat person. A fraud. I came to her defense but they weren't having it. That fat girl just needs to diet and exercise, etc. Everything I've heard my entire life. This was the first time I've ever been in this type of situation. Hopefully I can handle myself better in the future. I feel like I have to stand up for my sisters! Any suggestions on how to handle these types of situations?
  2. My surgeon gave all of his patients an entire manual to take you through every stage of the bandster diet from pre op through weight maintenance. He advised waiting until reaching 3 months post op to begin having dark leafy raw veggies. I followed his recommendations, and have never experienced any negative effects from having a very small salad using romaine lettuce most days of the week. As always though, when you have questions, it's best to begin with finding the answers through your surgeon.

  4. Well, I'm walking that line right now. I do reveal my weight to some people..like fiancee, medical team (obvs), and one other group.... my closest friends who insist I "don't need" a surgical procedure. OK, once I tell them that I'm 5'1" and weight 276, they gasp, act concerned, and then possibly concede that maybe I do need medical intervention. Pre-op weight is embarassing and post-op weight is public? While it is obviously a personal decision, and people should definitely be proud of themselves for all of their hard work, I think my weight will probably not ever be something I discuss with "the general public", my extended family, or friends. Especially nosy coworkers! It's so personal. I mean, I've known people that have lost lots of weight, but I never had the gall to walk up to them and ask them how much they weigh (which is really what most people are trying to figure out with all of the other questions).

    Introducing myself

My insurance also required the 6 month weight loss attempt. Don't view it as a roadblock, or delay, but as an opportunity to learn all you can about the band, the surgery, what to expect, the good, bad and ugly. During my 6 months I joined here and read everything I could (obesityhelp.com is another place to get lots of info). There are several good books out that would be helpful to read. Two that I have are The Lapband Solution, and The Lapband Companion. I got them from Amazon. There are many others, as well as cookbooks for post op, you name it. I also spent time adjusting my attitude. I work in a fairly large office and my desk is at one end. The phtocopier/scanner is at the other. Originially I resented the hike every time I needed to copy or scan (walk to the scanner, put papers in, walk back to my desk, activate the scanning software, when done walk back to get my papers and back again to my desk). Now I view it as an opportunity to get up from my desk, and as additional exercise walking back and forth. I stopped being mad about it. By the time I had surgery I knew so much about it I could almost do the surgery myself (just kidding). I also got my head around the fact that for the band to work, I had to adhere to the program, make a committment to exercise and eat better. I still try to eat too much, and maybe don't chew as thoroughly, but with very little restriction I have lost around 80 pounds. I had one fill that made me so uncomfortable I had 2 unfills. The last time I saw the doctor for a fill he talked me out of it because I had still lost 7 pounds between visits, and he said I was ahead of schedule for weight loss for all three bariatric surgeries. So I can eat more, but I am eating better, and occasionally the density of the protein or something will remind me there is some restriction, if not a lot. I am very happy with my progress so far.

    Cellulite and Stretch Marks

Fraid not. I dont have many stretchmarks, I dont know why, just lucky. I have a few over my hips, but after 3 babies, I guess I've basically got good skin. Lucky not to have an apron. But the cellulite on my thighs and backside, if anything, its worse than it was because now its not filled out tight with fat, its a bit more jiggly. Dont even ask about my boobs, lol. I think childbirth and breastfeeding has done way more damage than weight though.
  7. My problem is I was struggling at times to reach 800 calories a day and everything I had been reading and hearing was telling me I was possibly putting my body into starvation mode. At that time I was going through like a month and a half period of the scale just sitting in one place. So I went to see the Nutritionist about it and they set me straight. Come to find out I had gotten away from band portions and was eating too much and eating around my band which is what slowed down my weight loss. I also had a couple of stuck episodes during that period and still I didn't see the signs I was doing it wrong. Still though it was confusing because I was consuming more than usual but still struggling with low calories counts and not losing. Now my calorie intake is still on the low end but my portions are back on track and the scale is moving with a little more ease. Like Stephanie says I think its a matter of learning the basics and then finding out what works for you individually. It's too bad it doesn't just work by following basic rules. If it did then none of us would have weight struggles.
  8. CG you hit it girl, self doubt in me is so true. I feel like a failure here lately and especially today when I woke up this morning and had gained a half lb that makes 4 lbs in a week and half. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Everytime I say something to my surgeon he supports my nutritionist, they both don't count cals, carbs or Proteins just tell me to eat my protein first then veggies and carbs last. Heck this is his rule: The girl sitting behind me in the meeting last night was having surgery this morning and she was excited that she was going to be able to eat mashed potatoes tonight, yea. His rules don't follow ya'lls. He doesn't do a liquid diet after surgery, he sends you home on mushy or soft foods right off the bat. I didn't do that I did liquids for a week then mushies after reading on here but still. I love him to pieces don't get me wrong. And then I looked at the girl sitting next to me that had lost 134 lbs in a yr and half and was super skinner with no sagging skin and was just having a pity party for myself because I have sagging skin already on my inner thighs and my arms have always been huge and they hang and are heavy. I just started walking a few wks ago and all I can do is about 20 mins or my knee will give out, yes I know sounds like a pity party and may be so but I feel like such a failure.

  10. The greatest thing about this program is that pandora jewelry you can join it at no cost. Usually free coaching plans include unreliable information but that's far from the truth in case of IIU. It'll guide you in each and every phase until you can consider yourself successful. It looks like you have run into a bug in Lion's version of TextEdit. They might have intended to create a user global stored styles system for NSText based rich text editors (not the only oddity of the system this post has a good writeup of TextEdit's style implementation). This has worked up to and including OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.. Do that strategy in case you go out and purchase Pandora bracelets. It is possible to purchase like a entire otherwise you can buy Pandora beads piece by piece. You can take out the beads of the Pandora bracelets you simply bought and place it back again together in almost any way you desire it. Have you ever wondered of creating your own Pandora jewelry that can show your own styles? You can be tired of all the routine Pandora designs and colours found in your local stores. They are just too clich or too boring. And you want to bring the true yourself to the front of your friends. I have great respect for the person who made the referral. In fact, it was most likely a "done deal" because of the person who made the referral, however the lack of response left me feeling unsure. I began to question the professionalism and expertise of the person I was trying to reach.. This period is can make or break the relationship. During this time, couples start to show their true colors, and hope to the gods that their partner accepts them for who they are. But women should not just sit down, relax and watch this phase go before her eyes. 2. There are victims of parental abuse and violence who have grown fearful of touch. Beanbag tapping is a kind of therapy that involves gently tapping different body parts in a constant way so as the person may concentrate on the specific body areas. But when it comes to Pandora jewelry, the original pandora necklaces ones meet this specification of many female customers. The jewelry is usually light weighted at reasonable and affordable costs. The daily usage bracelets and earrings are designed for durability for years to come. While buying the diamond jewelry, the 4Cs can also be cross checked to rule out the possibilities of buying a fake jewelry. Certain online stores provide the facility to make the payment upon delivery which is even more comfortable as the buyer can physically check the product and then make the payment. Buying jewellery online is a common phenomenon today with security of the websites being provided to ensure confidentiality of the buyers' details

    What to do?

I feel you on the doubt and questioning your decision. I am about 2 weeks from surgery and I keep tossing those same questions around. However, I have a few other questions that I like to remind myself of whenever I'm doubting my choice: How long can I realistically expect to live at my current weight? You typically don't see very obese people over 65. What will my quality of life be if I don't lose weight? I dread flying, going to an amusement park, meeting strangers, eating out, going to any event where the seat might be too small or the chair too weak, etc. Will I let fear keep me from changing my life for the better? All of your worries are ligit, and I think we all have them. In the end, you have to weight the pros and cons and make your own choice. Yes this surgery has some risks, but so does everything else in life. Best of luck with your decision.

    Pre newbie questions

I thought my 6 month supervised weight loss requirement was along time. Geesh - 1 - 1 1/2 years? That sucks! I use My Fitness Pal to track food and activity. I am also going to extra counseling to learn how to stop emotional eating while I wait. Stay strong and patient!

    Getting Back On The Wagon

I gained 25 pounds since my surgery in October 2011; I consulted with my surgeons office and I am now on 800 calories per day until I get those 25 pounds off. However, it hasn't been that difficult since my last fill in May. Talk it over with your doctor's office and see what they say. Are you seeing your doctor regularly? Be very honest with yourself and with your doctor's office; they want you to succeed! Good luck to you!
  14. Thanks...it helps to know I'm not crazy (at least about the fill! )...I am just so disapponted...it was like a high for a few days....now I'm afraid I'm gonna gain back the few lbs I lost last week...We'll see..
  15. I carry most of my weight in the middle part of me, and I have no butt. And of course, my butt and legs have started losing it first- where I don't need it the most. The hardest for me to lose is my stomach and back and face. Just thought I'd ask ya'll where's your easiest place to lose and the hardest place also? Marci
  16. I lose weight in my face and stomach first, then my boobs then my butt, but my thighs are stubborn and i usually don't lose much there ever!
  17. I'm thickest in the middle with no hips and no butt. Of course my butt has shrunk more, however, people are telling me "you're losing weight in the belly, I can really see it, your belly and your face." Just not fast enough...

  20. So last week I turned thirty and celebrated by drinking and eating all week. For the most part I was eating a little more than normal. However the alcohol seems to have speed up my weight gain to six lbs. I pretty much only worked out twice last week. Point I'm trying to make is I thought since I hadnt gained weight I was good. Served as a wake up call that this is a lifestyle change I must make and adhere to otherwise it'd be easy to gain it back. Oh we'll back to the gym and healthy eating =-)
  21. At 10 days post-op your body is in a major heal mode. You should not be eating chicken nuggets at your stage. For RNY gastric bypass patients the Weight Loss phase is very short. You want to maximize your weight loss during this phase because soon you will slide into the Maintenance phase. So it is very very important to follow the program guidelines. Right after surgery, some individuals will lose weight quickly and effortlessly. But as time goes on, your weight loss will dramatically slow down. So make the most of it and follow the doctor's orders.
  22. i am with my friend catfish and jim here i dont count (carbs)..but what i do count is my Protein (i get as much as i can) and eat alot of veggies/fruit and always (always) make sure i burn off more calories than i take in by eating (3500 cals is a pound ate/drank)..my nutritionist advised me to choose fresh foods vs boxed/processed and i have adhered to that and it works.. i eat better foods and i let my band dictate how much (which is about a cup or cup and a half of food)......how i see it, you got to eat to lose weight....make better choices and exercise and drink alot....that is all i do......(plus use my want power attitude). you can do this donna. doing good so far. i just keep (hearing) doubt from you...let the band work and do its job.....and you just make good choices

    May 13th, 465lbs

Mine was similar. I was 410 on surgery day and 6'1. I'm only 5 months out but I'm steadily losing weight each month. I think some people are losing faster than me but my surgeon said my results are great and I will probably keep losing for a long period of time. It's not a race, so fine with me. One thing my surgeon told me is that with a BMI of 50+, with the sleeve patients often don't reach a BMI under 25 or maybe even under 30. I wouldn't let that discourage you though as I'm almost 100 lbs down from where I was and I already feel a massive difference. I sleep better, I have more energy, and I fit into airline seats and other smaller spaces. Even if I never lose another pound it was still worth it.

Oh now I see how the lap band works! Yippee!

This is like music to my ears. I got banded on April 3rd and on a liquid diet. I cannot wait to eat sensible, nourishing meals to get my metabolism back on track. I expect to see a gain when I go to mushies and then slowly progress to solids. However, it is good to know that when I adhere to the guidelines re: portions and nourishment that the band works like it is supposed to. That is why I got the band, to help me with my portions and to keep me on track with eating the right foods and not snack all the time. I am glad it is working so well for you :Dancing_wub:
