  1. I've been in maintenance for close to a year so NSVs are a little hard to come by ! ! ! But, today I pulled out some springy shirts from last season to rotate back into my wardrobe now that winter is heading out and the weather is gorgeous here in Florida. I was hesitant to put them on because I remember last year, they were a little snug around my waist and belly area. NOT TODAY, the one I tried on is actually a little big on me around the lower belly/hip area, and is definitely big around the upper arm area ! ! ! I'm so stoked because even though I weigh the same this means only one thing; MORE INCHES ARE GONE, and my skin is rebounding, and tightening up ! ! ! Now that's a victory that I'll Celebrate proudly. I'm almost 21 months out, and honestly NSVs are a rarity in my little world. My husband actually has a "down day", the kiddo is home from school, and we're heading to the zoo for a family day. It's a 50 acre zoo and when I told my husband how big it is, he said "WHAT, 50 acres? ? ?" I replied "damn skippy, and we're walking as much of it as we can get to" (some of it is only accessible by the little train ride) Which will be another victory because the last time I went to the zoo, I had to sit in a seat my myself because I was so huge ! ! ! I really love my sleeve, my life post-op, my life in maintenance ! ! ! Best decision I could have ever made ! ! !

    Size 20's are gone FOREVER!!!!

Congratulations on your NSV...it's amazing how different our bodies are. I started at 286, I'm now 252 and wearing size 18 jeans, I am anticipating the momemt when I reach your weight of 220 to see what size I'll be then.

    Love All The Nsvs!

NSV means Non-Scale Victory. Basically anything that you couldn't do or have happen to you before when you were heavier.
  4. So, my last NSV was being able to wrap a towel around my body...still lovin that! My new NSVs....... I WAS ABLE TO RIDE THE MINI ROLLERCOASTER WITH MY 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER ON SATURDAY!! I was not asked if I was pregnant, and the lap bar went all the way down to my new lovely lap! BTW...I HAVE A LAP!! It felt sooo good to be able to ride with my honey and not be embarassed that I was too big to ride. 2nd NSV, I NEED A BELT!! I have NEVER needed a belt, my pants were always plenty tight enough. Now, My pants sag on me and I really can't keep investing in clothes that won't fit in a couple months...it IS fun having to shop for all the cutest styles though! 3rd NSV, I can try on clothes at the flea market. OK, I know that sounds wierd...but hear me out. There is an Antique fair that happens once a month here in Sacramento, CA. I LOVE IT!! Well, I went on Sunday and I had a BLAST trying on all the vintage clothes over my clothes. It was so FUN! I bought a couple things too! Before VSG, I would have just been browsing and wishing, now thanks to "Sleevie Nicks" (because she is a ROCKSTAR! ) I can LIVE and be INVOLVED WITH LIFE!! *sigh* Life is good.
  5. Hey! I'm almost a year out and I've lost about 110 pounds! Some of the biggest things I can tell you are the following: 1. As someone mentioned above, try not to compare yourself to others. Your body is different than everyone else's (height, weight, metabolism, etc) so focus on yourself! One of the best tools I got was a smart scale (I believe I got mine from Amazon for like 35 bucks?). It connects to an app on my iPhone and tracks weight trends, body fat, muscle mass, etc... I know that a lot of these body composition measurements are not super accurate, but having a general idea of the trend is reassuring. I would also recommend doing body measurements (I do mine every 3 months). Whenever I feel like I'm really stalling, I look back at my app and look at the little graph from the last 11 months and think "Wow, ok I did that." and it makes things a little bit easier. 2. Don't buy a ton of clothes right away... you're going to lose a lot of weight and your body is going to change. Look at thrift and resale stores for a few items every now and then to get a few things but if there's anything you really want (for me, it was a pair of really nice jeans) wait until you're almost to your goal or you hit a huge milestone and treat yourself! 3. Keep a list of personal NSV (non-scale victories)... I do this on the notes app on my phone. Whenever I am feeling down about myself or having a stall in my weight loss! In my opinion, the NSV's are more important than the numbers on the scale because I made this change for a better quality of life, not to see a certain number on the scale. Some of my favorite NSV on my journey thus far was buying size 2 jeans, having to get a new drivers license because people didn't believe it was me, and my personal favorite, being able to cross my legs while sitting. Wishing you the best journey!

Note to self: Don't be so competitive!

I know exactly how you feel! I finally had to stop myself from looking at other;s stats and focusing on how far I've come. Also, the suggestion above about NSVs is dead on. The numbers don't mean as much as dropping 14 pant sizes and 4 shirt sizes! That is an incredible accomplishment. Even more impressive are the health benefits you list. You are kicking butt, my friend!
  7. When you get this awesome pic this year, looking all skinny and stuff, be sure to post it as an NSV!
  8. oh yeah, i think we should post nsv's. ok, so i went shopping last week with my 15 year old cousin. she is smaller than me, but she's not skinny. anyways, we can wear the same shirt!!! i decided i dress way to old and fat for my age, so i went and got some of those cute form fitting thin tee shirts...i love them. also, i found a pair of jeans that fit me perfectly that do not have W attached to them!!!! i can't tell you how long that has been. ok, so they are an 18, but they are a regular 18. plus i bought some shorts (never wear shorts but they were for camping) and they are a regular xl (16/18) and they are almost too big!!! ok, so here is the big one, i just got a picture back of myself a couple of weeks ago at a family reunion and when i looked at it, i actually did not think that i looked fat!!! it was amazing.

    A new NSV

I experienced a new NSV this evening and I have to say, I'm feeling pretty good after this one! My daughter had a dress in her closet that was MINE when I was a sophomore in high school. I wore it when I walked in the football homecoming that year. I remember feeling so beautiful in that dress. We were looking through old yearbooks and pictures a few nights ago and she said "Hey! I have that dress in my closet!" So tonight, she pulled it out of the closet and insisted I try it on. I was certain that it would NOT fit. Only, it DID fit! OMG! Wow! What an amazing feeling that was/is! I just can't believe it! People keep telling me how skinny I am and how great I look but I have such a hard time seeing/believing it for myself. I have spent my entire adult life wishing I could be THAT small again and looking at that picture and thinking how little I was and now...Wow! Just wow!

    A new NSV

And I just realized I also have a NSV ~ had this one since leaving the hospital. No more insulin. I went into surgery taking insulin and left not. This has been a life changing experience already and tomorrow makes a week ????
  11. @@dhrguru - that's a great NSV! Mine are so s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d when I am done with them that no one could keep them up, and I am talking about the bra, not the girls!
  12. When my weight was increasing, one of the most depressing events was when I realized that I had to raise the tilt of the steering wheel because it was brushing against my ever expanding thighs. When I lost some weight pre-op, I lowered the tilt some, but thought there was at least one more adjustment. Well, on my way home from work yesterday, I noticed there was quite a bit of space between my legs and the wheel. When I got home, I went to adjust the wheel and ...thunk...thunk...it couldn't get any lower! I was happy and in shock! I know I have a long way to go still, but for me, this was one small reminder that things are getting better.

    Before And After Pics

Wow.....really fantastic! Everything is smaller except your glasses and your smile! And you've got lots to smile about! Keep up the great work and savour the NSVs like this. They are the little things we never even thought about pre-op and now we get them on a daily basis. You've taken back your life and living it to the fullest..........yeah!
  14. This is why I did WLS. My daughter hasn't seen me since August, which was one pre-op diet and one VSG ago. I went into the airport to pick her up today, rather then just picking her up at the curb. I wanted her to see the results as a surprise so I stood back when she came out. She looked my way several times and started to walk away. At that point I started to walk toward her. We made eye contact and her eyes just got bigger and all she could say was "wow!" She said she her brain was in conflict. She thought it looked like me, but it just looked wrong. As we walked to the car I asked her how she felt. She said you look like a normal weight person but with a little more meat on your bones. I said that meat would be going as well. She asked, "Are you going to lose more?" Ha! I told her I wasn't even half way there. She admitted she was nervous to see me because she was afraid I would be different. Interesting to hear that from her perspective, but so far she can see I'm the same inside. I can't wait for the next stretch of three months in the Spring where she won't see me! So my holiday has officially begun. I don't need pumpkin pie with a NSV like this.

Surgery? Overall Summary. Yes Or No?

Yes definitely would do it again even after my complication and second surgery.... NSV today actually bought a size 12 jeans...I swear the tag must be wrong. I started at sixe 24 when I started my pre-op diet last Octoer. I have not worn a size 12 (if it is true) in over 25 years...... My loss has really slowed down, but that is okay for now. I am hoping my hair loss will slow down too. smiles everyone

I'm Hoping With Wheight Loss I Can

Since ive lost some weight i have lots more self confidence because i look and feel better. the compliments dont hurt either, especially from men ! ( Im married , not dead !) The cuter clothes are in a smaller size, i have more energy , im sleeping better and am able to run a little. Im wearing a belt ! A cute one ! etc. One day after i had lost about 30 lbs i had an unexpected nsv. I sat down on the couch to paint my toenails, and i very easily pulled my heel up to my rear where i could easily reach my feet . i had not been able to paint my own toenails comfortably in many , many years because my big ol' stomach had been in the way ! Not anymore ! So im looking forward to hiking, riding a horse , being a runner, dropping more weight, having my pants get too big again, getting rid of my sleep apnea machine, climbing in to our fishing boat without rocking it, etc................im saving money because i eat less, so i spend it at Goodwill on clothes that will fit my shrinking body !
  17. I have no need to be "ultra skinny" as you say. I have high expectations for myself, and I don' t belive that's bad. Is it horrible to use whatever motivation you can? I am not rushing this, I am taking slow, I am celebrating every pound and every nsv. HOWEVER, the band does work, and I needed to make this doctor see that. He speaks very poorly about the band, even to prospective patients. I went into my consult with him telling him I wanted the band, and all he told me about was the RNY, which I knew I didn't want! When I reiterated I wanted the band, he told me I would be very unhappy. Eventually, he believed in me enough to do the surgery, and I was going to prove to him that band patients can be successful. Why is that bad? I am healthy, and believe it or not, ALL of my bloodwork was normal, no sleep apnea, no diabetes, no cardiac issues BEFORE surgery. I am out to stay healthy. I want to keep it that way!

    NSV!!

    NSV= non scale victory
  19. Hi Guys and Gals, My most recent pics I feel great! I had such an awesome week between self realization, NSV's, my doc's appointment, and I lost 2 more pounds!
  20. You have a relatively small amount to lose and you are already 1/3 of the way there in less than two months. If anything, I'd say that is an excessive rate of loss. Besides, You are not a contestant on The Biggest Loser, you are in this for life. It took almost a year and a half to reach my goal and I was perfectly fine with it. 1 1/2 years is a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of my life. You should be asking what Vitamins should I be taking? How do I get in all my fluids (you should be getting close to 100oz for optimum weight loss) Should I be seeing a therapist to help me make the necessary psychological changes required to keep my weight off? Just enjoy the journey and count your NSVs. They are way more exciting anyways.

    No Birthday Cake for Me!!

Happy Birthday Sweetie! Make this a NSV (non-surgery victory) and treat yourself to a new pair of earrings, or a dangerously seductive color of lipstick!

    What a great NSV!

    Another NSV

Today when I got into my SUV to take my daughter to ice skating lessons I thought for a split second that my husband must have moved the car seat back because I fit sooooo good!!! My stomach was INCHES, I mean, INCHES from steering wheel.....I realized then that my husband has not driven my car since this summer!!!! What a great feeling....I just sat in the driveway smiling for a couple of minutes before I pulled out.....wow, great feeling......
  24. Being 16 months out, I thought it might be tough to come up with an NSV every week. Thought I might have to document some of my older ones. But last night I had one after all. Went to a friends house and after dinner his son wanted some batting practice. So my friend pitched and I played outfield....THE WHOLE OUTFIELD! Running back and forth catching fly balls and scooping up grounders. No problem...Agile as a cat!
