    NSVs!!!!!

Today I FIT INTO JUNIORS SIZE JEANS! yes, they were a 17 and yes they were a bit snug but being 19 and being able to FINALLY wear juniors sizes is just about the BEST feeling in the world. Its true...that feeling when you step on the scale and you are JUST five pounds away from being back in the 100s is SO much better than any desert or plate of food you could have ever eaten!! GOODBYE PLUS SIZE...hello abercrombie jeans! -Lindsey

    Twenties NSVs

Holy cow! You guys blow me away with your success! Not to mention all of the inspiration I get when I read through here, especially with Jane, Drew, and Laurrs little stories of NSV success. (I apologize- those are the only names I can remember off the top off my head.) 12/30/08: I tried to hide the fact that my 22s were far too tight. 07/20/09: I cleaned out my closet and threw out the 22s and the 20s. I picked up a pair of 18s that haven't fit in two years, the "skinny jeans" style in particular (oh, the irony of a fat girl in skinny jeans cracks me up every time I wear them), and those suckers fit!!! Not just "like a glove", but loose! ...and they made my posterior look cute once more! I'm still waiting on my old size 16 Gap corduroys from 8th grade to fit. Along with a number of vintage tees and retro dresses to fit that Mom bought me years prior, that never fit properly.
  3. Funny how a lot of people (including myself) really look(ed) forward to riding roller-coasters again. I now love going to amusement parks with my kids and going on all of the rides - a huge NSV !
  4. What's going on Buffie? Have you had any NSV yet?

  5. Delivered

    Jeans circa 1991 fit!

Congratulations! I would also venture to guess that those are true junior size 13's, so you could definitely wear a smaller size today! Those NSV's sure do make the journey worthwhile. Keep up the good work!

    Jeans circa 1991 fit!

    Congratulations on your NSV!
  7. Well I have been having ups and downs. I am almost 9 months out. I have stopped weighing myself all the time and decided to try to maintain my weight loss. It has been hard and I haven't been doing a very good job. I have decided to try to shock myself back in a low carb high protein mode this week. Just because I need to get the cravings out of my system. I am still hitting the gym. Because of a couple of things that came up unexpectedly and out of town meetings I actually had only 2 days working out this week. That is the least I have worked out since about November. I guess I'll have to watch that. I did go shopping and was able to fit my big fat butt into a size 10 skirt!!!! I couldn't believe it! I don't ever remember wearing a size 10! I also bought my first little black dress. It is a size 14 (the girls are always bigger) I have just recently gotten out of plus size shirts) It is Calvin Klein and it looks AWESOME! Now I just need a place to wear it! So I am still having some NSV, but I have to admit that I am feeling very fat again. Part of it is what I am eating. If I was eating right all the time I wouldn't feel like look so fat. I'll have to work on that. I know that I have gotten used to seeing myself like this so that is part of why I am starting to not see a skinny me in the mirror anymore. That will change when I start loosing again. I am still looking forward to visiting my family and surprising them with my 100+ weight loss. I leave a week from Thursday. I have been tanning and worrying about what to wear and what they will say. I will look forward to coming home and getting back on the weight loss wagon. I am starting to think that weight loss will be much MUCH easier than maintenance....I guess I'll have to work on that. Much love to all! what's the one thing?

I know the thread is entitled "the one thing", but I made a list for my Lap Band Scrapbook last night (yeah, I'm a dork) and figured I'd go ahead and post that here because it never hurts to see everyone's NSV goals. If anything, maybe it will remind someone of something they forgot to look forward to and inspire them to work out extra hard that afternoon! And hopefully that will do the same for me as I read the responses of others! #1: More than anything listed below, I cannot WAIT until I am able to go shopping and purchase adorable clothes with my friends in "normal" department stores and boutiques. While I enjoy helping them pick out cute clothes, I'd much rather sift through the clearance racks for my own self! Others I'm hella excited about in the future: able to shop instore @ Victoria's Secret (I'm a 42DD/DDD now and have to buy bras online.) able to sit with legs crossed like the lady I am able to rock a cute sundress and not look pregnant able to kayak (I think the weight limit is 250) able to skydive (plan to do this in August!!!) able to wear the following sizes: 16, 14, 12, 10 able to walk perfect in high heels no more double chin visible collar bone able to dance at clubs and concerts with confidence able to strut around comfortable in a swimsuit able to look cute wearing things above-the-knee thighs that don't rub together as bad can no longer fit into Torrid/Lane Bryant/etc.

    nerves are setting in...

Wow! 45-60 minutes of walking daily is incredible!!! I have an irrational fear that, if I were to take up a daily routine like that, I would run into a plateau and not know where to go from there. I cannot imagine spending more than an hour on cardio every day. I was looking through the "Twenties NSVs" last night/this morning (the first 5 pages, cos it got to be 5:47am rather quickly, lol) and one person mentioned they work out twice a day! My face: O.o;?! I just finished up that third week of my "Make It Work" lifestyle change (Idk, I love Tim Gunn...) and, after the fourth, I'm rewarding myself with an hour-long full-body massage before I "kick it up a notch" with 4x/week. I know what you mean about getting comfortable with having lost the weight to a point where you quit working at it and things just pile right back on. But the most I've ever lost was 61 lbs in 2004 and I was still at 216 when I went away to college freshman year and put it all back on. The gym was too long of an uphill walk. Talk about an ironic excuse! LMAO! I've had a "good cold beer" post-surgery. The carbonation isn't as terrible as soda. (I haven't touched soda! Not willing to take that risk!) But I couldn't drink even half of a Smirnoff Ice. It just wouldn't all fit like it used to. If you do attempt to drink a beer, definitely wait until you're done with your post-op diet regimine and back to eating solid foods and such. Then open the beer and stick it in the fridge with the lid removed and let the carbonation kinda fizzle a bit. Still tastes the same... unless you love head on your beer and then I can't really help ya there. Except I've heard of people taking something like Gas-X before drinking.

    NSV's (NonScale Victories)

I LOVE this thread! I've had a few NSV's... Day 5 post op: cleaned out my closet...GOT RID OF ALL the clothes i was holding onto...but wait, it gets better...i thought i had one or two pairs of smaller pants that i kept..you know, those "oh i'll get into that again" clothes...well i kept more than I thought! I have 2 pair of jean capri's, one pair of white capri's, one pair of white bermuda dress shorts, 3 pairs of jeans, and about 20 tops that just before surgery didn't fit..and they all either fit well or almost fit..and they range in sizes of 16-18!!! I was wearing a 22/24...Plus, my shirts were all shirts that i would wear UNDER a sweater or zip up hoodie because they looked bad alone..now i can wear them alone...AND my jean skirt (that's still "in") that I havn't worn in 5 years..the last time i was this size...is loose! Day 7 post op: went to TJ Maxx...i'm now officially a shoe whore! And i went right to the size 8-8 1/2...nope! I'm inbetween a 7-7 1/2 now...so the shoes will have to wait a little more, but I forgot that your feet shrink LOL Day 8 post op: stopped into one of my jobs...a PT job at..well lets call it a beauty/cosmetic/superficial store (lol)...EVERYONE was going crazy..."omg your cheekbones" "omg you already look so small!"..and when I went in the back and tried on my very unfashionable, yet required, jacket that i used to have to suck in to zip...well it zipped and i could roll it in like 2 inches! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy I chose this surgery! Can't wait to hear about other people's NSV's...and to keep posting mine! Barbie (and now I feel like i'll actually start LOOKING like my given nickname)

    NSV's (NonScale Victories)

My first NSV was being brave enough to travel to Mexico by myself to get this band put in. I say it counts as an NSV.

    Lets Celebrate !!!!!

Wow, everyone's doing so great!!! De-Lean, your post had me cracking up! I'm with you! LOL Karianne, you look fab! Love the new haircut. My NSV is that I am back in clothes from three years ago when I had lost 50 lbs with WW!! Also, today I put on something from a year ago (which I only got back into last month) and I've had two people tell me today that I really need to get new clothes because my jeans are so baggy. LOL Guess I'll add these to the ever-growing pile of jeans that are too big.

    I am totally freaking out!

If I may make another suggestion, since you have attended the seminar and "lived to talk about it". I was stuck waiting for 6 months due to a diet requirement by my insurance. I figured I might as well educate myself on what I was getting into. I started attending the support group (it wasn't required, but it was open to the public). I met people at all stages, thinking about having surgery, pre-ops, recent post-ops, people out a year or more. It was very educational, and by the time I had jumped through all the hoops and had surgery, I could practically do the procedure myself! Not really, but I had a really good handle on what I was getting into. The more you know . . . There are many books you can buy, most available on amazon.com (I bought The Lapband Solution and The Lapband Companion). Also on obesity help.com there is a magazine you can subscribe to called OH. Good articles, before and after pics, Wow moments (good stuff that happens after weight loss, also known as NSV or non-scale victories), nutritional articals, plus lots of ads geared just for bariatric patients, like Vitamins and Snacks. Many vendors have sample packs you can buy to try their product. The other thing: exercise. You will need to make a serious committment to exercise. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, like an expensive gym membership. Mostly what I do is walk in a park near home that has a nature trail about 1.5 or so miles long. I generally go around twice, carrying peanuts for the squirrels. For back up I belong to Curves, and the county rec center gym ($2.00 a month--that really is 2 dollars), and I have a multi-class ticket for Water aerobics, that I paid upfron but averages about $6.00 per class. Curves costs $29.00 a month. With the nice weather we have been having I have just about been living at the park. Curves called me up to tell me they missed me! Good luck on your journey. This site is also a great place to get info. Do your thing and don't let anyone tell you that you are taking the easy way out. The band only restricts the amount of food you put into your mouth. You still have to make the decision to eat healthy and exercise.

Jerra, I'm so excited for you! I can't wait to start having some nsv's myself, but I guess I'll be happy with the scale moving for now.

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Morning everyone! Yeah, Shiny is back! Yesterday my band was VERY finicky...I didn't get 'food' into me until the late afternoon, and that was my morning smoothie! However, by 7 or so in the evening, I was ravenous - and had 1/2 turkey breast filet with an onion sauce, and some cherries and a handful of granola. Then just before bed, I had a few tbsps of peanut butter. I know, not a great choice, but I really wanted to get my protein in. Today, so far, so good. YEAH on the NSV! It's wonderful you met up with Jaime and St. Louis...I'd love to meet all of you someday, but I don't see it happening in the short term. Maybe someday. LilMiss - I am so sorry for what you are struggling with! Yes, go for an unfill - and get yourself back to a place where you can have a healthy relationship with food. Where you can eat solids, have more than 1 tbsp and enjoy! You are correct - how you are eating now is NOT healthy - physically or psychologically. Get an unfill. EXACTLY!!! Yes indeed! I get frustrated/concerned when I read the newbie posts about getting a fill on a schedule rather than based on a NEED...not a desire to lose X pounds quickly. Where are the VVs today?
  18. Good morning everyone! I thought it may be nice for us to share in our successes off the scale - as undoubtedly there will be times when it doesn't move as fast as we would like - to keep us motivated and realize the beauty in the small stuff... While the scale is still moving because I am newly banded; there are NSV's I am already noticing: - my watch is fitting looser and doesnt leave an impression in my wrist - I don't have to suck nearly as much in to button some of my formerly tight fitting size 22 dress pants - one pair of snugger fitting dress shoes are now sliding on my heel - EA Active leg band now doesnt pop off when I do squats or run Let's start sharing as we go....and I think it will be alot of fun to look back and see these victories as they happen and when! I'm so excited for all of us!!
  19. That's great Susan. I am happy for you. I haven't lost much from surgery because I was quick to get sleeved as soon as I started gaining. That never happens to me because of that. I know how good it feels though when people do notice, and I am happy for you that you got that NSV today!
  20. I bet that was LOTS of fun! a crash right in front of you...wow! i bet the crowd went nuts! that is awesome that you were able to lose while gone! isn't that amazing! no way we would have done that before the band! I'm working on uploading my pics....it's scary! i still can't believe my size and that i thought for a half a second that maybe i DIDN'T need to do this....i should have done it a LOT sooner! I am down another pound. 47 pounds gone.... so close to 50 but i seem to be slowing down. of course with all the snacking and junk that has been around the house....I only have MYSELF to blame for eating the way i have. today, i am doing liquids. my Protein shakes (carnation essentials with egg whites for added protien). I need to get myself out of this rut. i wasn't even craving junk anymore, but now that i have let myself eat it, i want ONLY that. on to NSV....i had hubby get down the box of clothes that was put in the attic when we moved since i was pregnant at the time and figured i would not fit in them for a while....then the 2nd pregnancy...and now the 'baby' is almost 2 and i have no excuse to still have 'baby' weight. it was labeled 'clothes i won't fit into for a very long time' box. it had a mix of sizes from 8's down to 4's....the 8's ALL FIT!!!!! i was SO excited that i went through my closet and tried on pants.... my 8's fit! i even had a pair of 6's fit! (ok, it's old navy and for me, old navy runs big because when i bought that pair of pants, all the rest of my jeans were 8's)...but OMG did that feel GREAT!! of course, it didn't stop me from shoveling the crap into my mouth! I'm joining a running club with my neighbor this weekend. I hope this boost my motivation, beats my slowdown of weight and makes me stop and think before putting the junk into my mouth!!!! ok, the pics are on my computer...i'm going figure out how to upload them to the site.....shield your eyes...it's NOT a pretty site! ACK!~

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

I guess I should post an update since I'm back from my trip and getting back into the swing of things. NSV- I had my wedding resized for a second time and it's now size 5 1/2. That's definitely smaller than it was when I got married. I think it was a 6. I know my ring size was at least an 8 before I had my surgery. So glad I have a warranty on the ring that gives me free resizing for life. I had a very nice visit with Jaime and StLouisGal. We met at a restaurant and had dinner and chatted. It's great to see others going through the same milestones and talk about our individual battles. Thanks, Ladies, for meeting up with me. You're both looking great! My weight is at a standstill. It doesn't look like I gained or lost much on my trip. It's good that I didn't gain. I behaved in a manner consistent with maintenance, I suppose. I've ordered a couple of books that I'm hoping will be here today. They are the Body for Life book and the Eating for Life cookbook. The recipes are what caught my attention. They are very similar to how I have been trying to eat. I think I will read through the books and see if I'm up to completing a 12 week challenge. Heaven knows I could use some toning and shaping. I hope everyone is having a good summer. I'm loving the evening thunderstorms and rainbows we've been seeing.

NSV Thread for the May Bandsters!

It sure has been awhile since anyone posted on here. I have 2 new NSVs. The first is I seen 2 people that I haven't seen in yrs. Seen them at different times and both commented on how much weight I have lost and how good I looked. The next one is I tried on some shirts I have hanging in the closet and 2 more of them fit! YAY ma!

YAY!! I even was able to buy a bathing suit from one of the stores!!! I told my husband I was going to have to rename the section...lmao!

Do you need to lose those pounds you've gained?

hi lilmissdiva, i just found this thread and read your initial email. i smiled when you kept saying for people to not be "mightier then thou'" i didnt post for a year because people were exactly like that way...some downright mean...even ones who needed advice themselves. i will say in the past 6 mos...i find people to be alot more caring/encouraging on this site. the know-it-alls have seemed to disappear. i had an experience like yours. this past christmas i gained 17 lbs. i must say most of it is due to blue bell ice cream (it's the best in the world down here in texas). i was getting insane....the more i gained, the more i hated myself and the more i ate. my jeans were getting sooooo tight....it reminded me of the prebanded josie. i think this is where the compulsion of mine hadnt been dealt with. things i've done to get it under control: 1. started to journal my food each day. i use netdiary because it is iphone/computer compatible. in past i used sparkpeople.com and it was great. 2. i really had to work hard to just live 1 day at a time. i was getting way ahead of myself. my fiance's daughter's wedding was july 25th. i was putting so much pressure to lose the weight for then....and i ate more. the end of this story...the wedding was just called off so i didnt need to worry at all. 3. i just had a tummy tuck and boob lift so i had to stop exercising. i was just cleared to start again and need to get my butt to the gym. this definitely helps... 4. i actually pray for the strength to stay on track. this helps alot one thing you mentioned that i have an issue with is being tight. i am tight even without fill. it is easier for me to eat junk then good food. i am starting to force myself to stop junk and take the time to eat good food. this has been the hardest struggle the upside my jeans are feeling better....so it is giving me some positive NSV's so i am and will always be in the "process". i still have 8 lbs of the 17 on and still working on it. thank you for the great thread topic.
