  1. Hello all! I had my LapBand surgery one week ago today and was actually feeling pretty good by Saturday! I overdid it with walking and going out and such so was sore again on Sunday - had some bad gas pains or being strapped to the table pains in my left shoulder so went to the chiropractor today and am feeling fantastic! So here's to the start of what will no doubt be an amazing journey!
  2. Ok so I have had a rough past few months and have started drinking soda like crack. Went to the dr today and he says that my stomach has stretched and possible band slip. I have to do liquids for the next week and he has placed me on a band fill diet, and he said it is possible that I may have to get the band removed. Has this happened to anyone? Please let me know, I'm praying that he was just trying to scare me and everything will be ok. PLEASE ANYONE....
  3. Hi, I'm Cari and I'm just beginning my journey with Lap-Band. I have been overweight or obese pretty much my whole life, going up and down in weight every few years. I would go on a diet and start exercising regularly, and lose weight, but then I would put it back on. The last time I lost a lot of weight, I ended up getting pregnant and gained it all back plus some. While I was pregnant I had a sit-down fall and while my baby was fine, I was not so lucky. I suspect that the fall is what caused my three herniated discs in my back. Then after I had my son, I ended up developing fibromyalgia. Between the pain from my back and the fibromyalgia and the medications that I have been on, I have gained 50 pounds this year alone and am now the heaviest I have ever been. My rheumatologist has recently recommended the lap-band procedure and referred me to a Center of Excellence that's relatively close to me where I can have the procedure done. I go in for the informational seminar in January. I have been reading the boards here for a while and trying to get as much information about what I will be facing in the future. I really appreciate everybody's supportive attitudes, honesty, and willingness to share some very personal information about your journeys. It's nice to meet you all.
  4. Three weeks down post op sleeve and 21 pounds lighter...
  5. Thanks everyone!!! I am going to stick with yogurt, creamy Soups and such for another week. I never want to experience that again! So can someone please explain exactly what dumping is? Is it a bowel movement or a sick feeling? lol
  6. I went for my 2 week post op follow up with the nutritionist on Tuesday and I am on the same diet. I can only have protiens! eggs, fish, tuna, chicken, hamburg, pork..ect...! I can also have cream of wheat, cheese, cottage cheese, yougarts, and Soups. I don't even have to mush them up...just make sure I cut them up, take small bites and chew it really really good. I can do this for 2 weeks then I can start to add veggies to my diet! Then 2 weeks like that and introduce starches. Nutrtionist did tell me I can have turkey, Squash and a little mashed for Christmas dinner! I was So happy I don't have to mush everything up. But they do advise mke sure its MOIST! Good luck on your journey!

    Banded 4/26/12

I am doing great. Down 26pds ans have 20 more to go. I had 3 cormobidities and for my height and BMI my insurance approved me. I am as of next Wednesday off all meds. So it has been soooo worth everything. I just had my first fill 2 weeks ago and not sure it has restriction as much as I thought but I am stable on weight and not gaining. How are you doing?
  8. This morning was the first time I tried spinach in a smoothie and I couldn't even taste it! I added parsnips too but they wouldn't blend very well, I still found my self having to chew them! I have put carrots and squash in before but decided I need to do something with all the veggies in my fridge so I branched out today. I get locally grown veggies delievered every week so I never know what is going to show up! I think I will try the green smoothie in the morning. I have grapefruit at home too...Do you put the membrane of the grapefruit in or just the juice and plup?
  9. I felt the same way before surgery. I kept yo yoing back and forth the week prior, right up until the morning of surgery. I'm two months post op now and I'm glad that I did go through with it. The first few weeks were horrible, with your body adjusting and healing but after that I felt better. I had the surgery done because I was so overweight I was causing severe damage to my spine. Now, my back doesn't hurt anymore and I'm off of half of my medicine. I found that I don't miss chocolate or junk food anymore either. I think that you can do this. Just keep looking forward to your goals and get a good support network
  10. Ashley, your body's just in shock post-op. It sucks, I know, but relax, you're fine. 3 weeks is no time at all for the body to heal and de-swell. You're getting in enough liquid, so that's great. I know how you feel since I started a stall at the 3rd week that just ended yesterday, 6 weeks later, with a sudden 5 lb drop. Just checking: Are you supposed to be eating solid food like chicken already?
  11. I know that stalls are talked about over and over on here but I am not getting any progress from reading about other situations.... I have upped my carbs, lowered my carbs, and nothing there.. I can't get in more than about 500 cal per day, mostly chicken, cheese, bbq sauce and ketchup. I am drinking about 70-90 ounces of water per day, 1 powerade zero every couple days. I am taking my vitamin and calcium and nexium and miralax. I am on regular foods per my doc. I am walking, jogging, plyometrics, and 5 pound weights everyday for about 2 hours total. What can I do to break this stall?? I stayed the same weight for 1 week then I gained 2 pounds this past week, and it hasnt changed... What more can I do?? I lost 13 pounds the first week and nothing since...... HELP PLEASE!!!
  12. I am on day 12 and just now feeling less starved than the first week and a half.. Its all mental. I did great on my supervised diet until I was told to start my 2 week preop.. ALL down hill.. I woke up starving.. tired.. and nothing was different Just hang in there.. I agree with vf59.. high protein, less carbs.. carbs make you hungry.. protein gives you a sense of fullness.. and keep checking in on this forum.. it has been a HUGE motivational factor for me to read up on stories and responses.. hang in there!!!
  13. I just went through this and the answer is that it actually gets easier with time. The first few days I could have eaten the walls. But after that I lost my hunger to the point that it was easier to resist. So my advice is to just hang in there a little longer and you will make it. Btw my prep diet was 4 weeks so just say to yourself thank god its only 2 weeks!
  14. I am 25 and my surgery is a few weeks away I started my liquid diet this week. I am kinda having a hard time and I am becoming discouraged. I am scared that I will not ba able to stick with my plan after surgery. I do know I want to live and walk up a flight of steps without being out of breath. I am really on the fence... any suggestions? I just wanna stop thinking about eating! Also what kind of protein shakes are good I am currently drinking special k it taste like chalk. Thanks in Advanced!
  15. I really have felt no pain since my surgery until this morning. I am 4 weeks out and my tummy was so tender. Not pain really, just very tender. Not feeling quite myself either so I am taking it slow today and taking care of myself, Hope you feel better soon!
  16. Hi All, Thankyou so much for all your advise, I emailed my dietitian today with the advice of 4 shakes or 4 optifast items per day and she said this is a good idea if it can keep me on track! Thank God! Made my day, I think 4 of them plus 2 banana's or and apple instead will see me thru, I have never been a big veggie eater! I can stomach pumpkin, peas and sweet potato, corn and capsicum but thats about it! and it sucks that most of them are off the list =( 3 weeks left to go! nervous

    Numbness

I don't have numbness in the same places, but I do get numbness a lot through my arms, shoulder, handsand waist, lower back and butt which is actually just caused by being in the same position all day at work. I go and get massages and chiropractic adjustments once every week or so which causes the numbness to go away. For now it's the only way I've found to alleviate the numbness. I am hoping yours is just a quick fix like mine. I wouldn't stress about having a tumor but definately a good idea to go and have it checked out.

    Chasing that Full Feeling

    Sour Stomach

You're not crazy. Sounds normal to me. I'm just under 4 months post op and I learn new things all the time. That sour feeling does go away after awhile, it varies for everyone, but I am one of the oh-so-lucky ones that gets it along with my period every month. For the first few weeks I felt every bit of everything I swallowed. Taking pills was like torture. It DOES get better though, everything sort of smooths out after awhile. It's a learning process. You will start to figure out what hurts and what doesnt, what you can and can't tolerate. Take it from me though, get in that protein! Protein has been the hardest thing for me and after weeks of getting in very little (if any at all) per day I have noticed how weak my muscles are. It's almost harder for me to climb stairs now than when I was 100 pounds heavier! Live and learn, I'm getting in that protein now and feeling better. Just my own personal tip. Congrats on the surgery. Just take it one day at a time, come to these boards (or call your doctor) when you have questions, and you'll be a sleeve pro in no time.
  20. I'm only 3 weeks post op.. And the first two weeks were hard.. But I'm finally feeling and seeing it! Learning to eat all over again is hard.. But I'm trying to tell myself in 6 short months, I'll be telling new sleevers "it gets better". Here's a pic!
  21. I'm with you! I'm 5 weeks post op and have been stalled for over a week. Down 53 pounds with preop.. so I guess 53 pounds in 7 weeks isn't horrid..I am still doing my thing and sticking with it. I also put the scale in the closet today..I think I'm getting too focused on it. I have faith in all of us!

    Weight gain in the hospital?

I also gained in the hospital but was forwarned by doctors staff that this would happen. I actually did not weigh myself for a week or so after surgery. I felt pretty lousy and just wanted to forget the whole thing. Hang in there...it will come off soon. This is a life long journey. There will be ups and downs along the way but your health will improve. Slowly or quickly depends on your physical self, age, ability to be 100% true to the program or only 80%, 70% or what ever it is.

    Few random questions

Amanda-Lee My husband and neighbor, who is a good friend, were there the day of surgery and my cousin drove me home. I was not able to drive for a week after surgery. I was still on the pain medication and my cousin was driving me around in my vehicle. I was able to get back in the pool to exercise two weeks out and was back to work in three weeks. I work in an office so it isn't a physically demanding job. I hit a period a couple of months out where I tired easily and felt exhausted all the time. I don't know if it was a delayed reaction or what. That was my experience. I wish you well with your surgery and hope you have an easy recovery. Blessings, Kathleen
