    Smoothies - off limits?

I still have them occasionally - but I make them differently than I did pre-surgery. Now I use less fruit and add Protein powder (if you use a fruit-flavored protein powder, it makes up for some the loss of flavor you'd get from the extra (real) fruit). I also use unsweetened almond or cashew milk now instead of juice. I usually add plain Greek yogurt to boot - but I did that before surgery as well. and of course I don't drink a giant size amount anymore, either.

    Theme Park strategies

I have been to several theme parks post-op. I usually pack peanuts and turkey sticks. But some theme parks have pretty decent options as well. I have been able to buy beef sticks or turkey sticks, cups with cheese and pepperoni, and yogurt at snack stands within the parks. I also once bought some chicken tenders and stripped all the breading off. And one time I bought a hamburger and just ate about half the patty/cheese without the bun.

    Smoothies - off limits?

I have a smoothie every morning. It contains greek yogurt, fairlife milk, 6 frozen strawberries and four packets of splenda. It has 18 grams of Protein, 18 grams of carbs, 0 grams of fat and 142 calories. I moved to this when I got off the Protein shakes. I am actually debating going back to the protein shakes as I seemed to lose more weight on them even though they had more calories. May have just been a coincidence...

Vets: What Are You Eating Today?

I'm a couple weeks post op knee microfracture and started liquid diet today. I'm on crutches for 6 weeks. Non weight bearing on operative leg. This wasn't the surgery or recovery we had planned for. Surprise!!! Getting meals is a serious challenge. I've been at the mercy of all the loving people who feed me. It's a project! I'm realllllllllly feeling "beggars can't be choosers". Now I'm stronger and more agile. I just have to get all the Water weight off. No more peanuts! So I'm going for shakes, Greek yogurt, a Protein bar, and all the greens I want. Then a 350ish calorie dinner.

    MARCH SLEEVERS?

Had my sleeve on March 22. Have my first post-op appt today. Excited to see how much I have lost as I do not have a scale at the house right now. (We recently moved internationally and are waiting for our furnishings to arrive) Pain is minimal - like I have done a few to many sit ups. For the most part tylenol takes care of it, though I did take pain meds when I knew family was going to be here and I was going to be doing a lot of up and down with kids coming to the house. I think I am doing good on Water intake - 20-36 oz of water a day so far. Each day is an increase in how much. Just need to remember to have the water next to me. food is full liquids so doing some Protein shakes (though having done them previously for 6 months they are not on the top of my list. Soups are my go-to. Home made potato and tomato that have been put into the bullet. Going to do a veggie Soup this week and try that. Loving yogurt too.
  6. So today i THOUGHT was a good day...1 week post op...(3/21/16)...drank a full shake and a yogurt felt great then slowly i started to get pain in my chest..my left side to be exact behind my boob...my arm does feel lil numb but figured thats norm...if i breath in too much it aches more but just a constant dull pain..never had this before...waiting for doc to call me back...took 2 gas ex already...ugh!
  7. First week.... Friday -surgery day. Woke up with no pain or nausea. I was very excited because I'd never woken up from anesthesia not nauseous before. This anesthesiologist obviously knew his stuff! Saturday - discharged at 9am. Walked 2 mikes, went shopping for decaf tea bags and Isopure. The tea was awesome. The isopure was the worst thing I ever tasted. Sipped on tea, pedialyte and chicken broth all day. Watched a movie and napped. Sunday - went shopping and sightseeing in TJ. More sipping and napping. Still no pain. Just a little cramping from the drain and felt like I'd done a hundred sit-ups. Monday - had drain removed, flouroscopy performed and flew back to the States (long day) stayed in a hotel that night because it was a blizzard outside and not safe to drive. Picked up some drinkable yogurt at Walmart and that was tasty! Tuesday - drove home 5 hours and plowed the driveway when I got here....had a friend shovel the walk, doorways and a path to the barn. Wishing I was back in sunny Mexico! Wednesday - Christmas Day. Went to grandmas for dinner and sat on the couch sipping Protein shakes most of the day. The first day I could actually relax since surgery. Thursday - got my nails done, got a hair cut and worked from home in the afternoon. Friday- back to work full time Needless to say I had a very easy recovery....never needed any pain Meds and I was meeting protein and Fluid goals by Day 5......Good luck to you!
  8. No more gas pain. What a relief! I have been doing light elliptical (as walking fast). No issue and it helped to clear my mind. I tried a liquid yogurt and added protein powder in it. Big mistake . It stayed on the sleeve most of the afternoon. Have not felt so full in a long time. Back to the shake and broth. I can drink my water intake without problems as long there is a flavor in it. Raspberry / cranberry and mint are my favorites. Of course there is no added sugar but Stevia

    Healthy Snack Ideas?!

Sliced apples already in a package for single serving with almond butter. (Amazon sells Barney's Butter in single serve packages. A little expensive to eat everyday but very portable.) Beef Jerky (I like Krave brand which is very tender). 1 ounce portions of nuts. (You can buy these individual servings or just break them out in sandwich baggies yourself.) Mr cheese O's are AMAZING if you like cheese crackers. (I found mine at Target but Amazon carries them also.) Individual serving packs of tuna (the Hickory Smoked flavor and Lemon Pepper flavors are great.) If you can refrigerate, definitely string cheese or Cracker Barrel 2% cheese sticks or Greek Yogurt (boosted with a half scoop of Protein powder) or sugar free pudding snack (boosted with a half scoop of protein powder).
  10. Ok, I went back and looked at my food log. I was between 600 and 700 calories (closer to 700 most days) at that stage. I was drinking 2 Premier Protein drinks per day at that stage and then filling in the other meals with a couple of tablespoons of hummus or 1/4 cup (or less) of refried Beans with 1 tbsp. of lowfat cheddar melted on top or 1 ounce (weighed) of deli turkey with a Laughing Cow Light cheese wedge or 1 egg white scrambled with a little cheese or 1/2 container of Greek Yogurt (I like Dannon Light & Fit Greek strawberry Cheesecake or Key Lime) mixed w/ 1/2 scoop of Protein powder (I use Precision Engineered whey Protein Isolate vanilla - also love the chocolate) or Ricotta Bake from theworldaccordingtoeggface.com. At this point I was still having some broth and/or sugar free popsicles if I thought I wanted something else. You will find in the beginning that you will repeat a lot of meals. At least I did. You have to add in foods so slowly so when something works for you and you eat so little of it, you tend to eat it again for a week or so. I stayed at 700-800 calories for the first 6 months or so then transitioned to 800-900 for a month or two then 900-1000 and now 1000-1100. I sometimes have 1200 but find I don't lose at 1200 so I am trying to transition back to 1100 max until goal. Hope that helps!
  11. I'm in the medical field and sometimes things get hectic so I need quick go to easy foods and snack was just wondering if you all could give me some ideas. Currently I eat lots of almonds, boiled eggs and yogurt.

    Protein bars ..

I have had the same, generally good experience with the Quest bars (prefer cookie dough) for Breakfast. I eat one of those for breakfast and the a serving of fat-free Greek yogurt a few hours later. That puts me at 35 g of Protein and a good chunk of Fiber all before morning's end. Easter Holy Food

I promise it will get better. I was you at Christmas time. I was sleeved 12/14/15 and couldn't have solids yet. Made a full turkey dinner for my family but ate yogurt for Christmas dinner.! I actually enjoyed my Easter dinner today, in very very small portions. Next holiday you will too! It will be different, portions are smaller and sweets will probably be avoided. With 2 small children I have a house full of candy but with sleeve power I haven't ate it!

I didn't really experiment in the soft phase. I lived off of Greek yogurt, babybel light cheese, mashed Beans, Protein Shakes and yogurt.
  16. I am a DSer 3 yrs out. You and I have some similar issues. Maybe you can benefit from some of my experiences. Keep your carbs limited to complex carbs (brown rice or low carb bread) and start your limit at 50 carbs a day. If you are not losing weight at 50, drop it to 40 carbs a day and test that out for 2 weeks. If you don't lose weight... you know the drill. I had to drop my carbs down to 20 per day before I would start to lose a pound or two per week again. Eating sugar like sweets and juice only lead to cravings of more sugar. It acted like an addiction for me. If I stayed off the sweets for 3 weeks, then I could walk right past them and not want them. But as long as I as I was eating them, I had to have them every day. Vicious cycle. Not to mention the righteously OMG gas it causes - YKWIM! Start packing your Snacks. Make your snacks from Protein and fats. Veggies are nice for a break, but the protein will give you endurance through the day and make you feel foll. Use hard boiled eggs, nuts, cottage cheeze, yogurt, string cheese, block cheeses, deli meat wrapped in lettuce with mayo (in a sandwich bag that you eat right out of the bag during your break), etc. Pack that in your school supplies to eat and start leaving lunch money at home (till you kick the sugar cravings and stop buying sweets at school). When you want a treat, use fats. There are recipes for fat bombs on the internet. There are tons of low carb/high fat recipes that taste like a dessert. Eat tons of fat (5 times more than the standard diet allows). Fat keeps you full, makes your skin and hair pretty, feels great on the tongue, is used for the ADEK vits, and helps move the back end issues. Make sure you are taking your total load of Vitamins every day. Especially D3, which will cut down on your depression. Find something else to be a treat instead of food. I know it's hard. Been there. Start collecting something, or start buying clothes, or going to the movies once a week. What ever you pick, that is your treat instead of that muffin/donut. Keep stress eating for now, but change the food. I chomp on carrots, celery, apples, broc, etc. Not only will you cut your calories and carbs way down with this strategy, you will find that you start to disconnect the stress with the sweets. When you stress out, your body nags you to go eat sugar because it releases endorphins (feel good hormones) that acts as "a fix" and you feel better/calmer after eating it (for a little while). So eat as much as you want when stressed, but don't give your body 'the fix' of sugar. You can have protein, or veggies, while stressing - but no carbs. It will be hard for 2 weeks but then gets much easier. Good luck. You are on the right track.

    Protein Goal/Shopping List

I am currently 6 wks post op and I only take in about 500-550 calories a day so yes 400 is actually correct especially the first couple of weeks when you are only drinking limited amounts. At first I was only able to drink 1 oz at a time, then I was up to 2 oz by day 3. Right now I can drink 4 oz of my Protein shake. My NUT says to take a sip and than place the cup down for a bit because you still need to take 15-20 min to "eat" your "meal" even if it's just drinking liquid. I use the yogurt to take my meds with. I was originally using Motts organic applesauce but it didn't hide the flavor of my crushed pills. Here is what I ate based on NUT recommendation: Bariatric Advantage Protein Shake - Fave flavors: chocolate & Orange Cream Jello sugar free jello or pudding Dannon Light & Fit - No fruit on the bottom. The regular version is thinner than the greek version. unjury non flavored protein powder Crystal Light

    Vomiting food

You are trying to eat solid foods but your stomach is still healing. I didn't try eating some solids until 4 wks post op. At 2 wks post op you should be drinking Protein shakes and eating yogurt (my nutritionist recommends Dannon Fit and Light - the regular yogurt is thinner than the greek version). Stick to that for the next week then you can get soups and puree them in a mini chopper. Make sure you count your protein - this should be your focus and not moving onto solid foods. I tried ground beef at 4 wks and vomited it right back up. I was able to handle ham at 4 wks - pureed of course. I'm 6 wks post op and haven't touched chicken yet although I'll be trying a bit of Turkey today. Good luck!!

    Vomiting food

I had what could've been the easiest WLS recovery in the world. But no way in hell was I trying to eat 4 ounces of meat (salmon, fish, chicken, whatever) 2 weeks post-op . Go back to yogurt. What worked well for me was 2 ounces of refried Beans and melted cheese. Become more patient. This journey takes months and months to get back to what feels like "real food" and "normal" to you.

    Vomiting food

Chime in with the others -- try eating food that is easier to eat (Greek yogurt, cottage cheese) and eat much less of it. 4 oz is crazy. Try 2-3 tablespoons (measure carefully) and see if you have problems with that. If you do still have problems, go back to full liquids for a week, then try again. If you are still having problems, maybe then contact your surgical team and see if they think there might be an issue other than you just need a little extra time to heal. I was on full liquids for four weeks, then purees for four weeks (with a max serving of 3 tablespoons 3x/day). I was SO ready for "real" food when I could advance to soft foods! But being on liquids and then small servings of puree for a long time didn't hurt me.

    Vomiting food

It's awful early for you to be eating solids like chicken and salmon. I was on liquids for three weeks and then gradually transitioned to pureed foods (cottage cheese, refried Beans, Greek yogurt, pureed soups) and eventually soft foods. I only ate 2-3 tablespoons at a time for the first couple months. It was 6 weeks before I was eating solid fish and chicken and even longer than that before I even attempted to eat 4 ounces of anything. I think you are just trying to advance too quickly, but if the vomitting with solids continues, you should contact your surgeon. A stricture can cause your symptoms,
