    Low BMI pre op question

Ive seen people on here literally gain all their weight back after sleeve surgery by not following the program. (which shocked me because i didnt think you could) Sleeve is only a tool. you have to stick to it. If you get the surgery and still eat crap but small amounts you will still gain weight.
  2. Hi! I'm exactly 4 weeks post surgery and doing pretty good. The weight loss has slowed a bit but still making progress. It's been amazing seeing the weight come off and fitting into some of my old clothes again. I'm still in the puree'd stage for another week, so now starting to get creative with fish, meat, and anything else I can ask the wife to mash up. There haven't been any major setbacks except for a severe gout flare up that has been hampering my walking since week 2. I'm drinking upwards of 70 oz's of water a day and still can't seem to shake the soreness and pain in my toe joint from the flare up. Other than that, it's full steam ahead!! Glad to hear your success!

I've regained the weight I lost

I agree with @GradyCat. You probably have not stretched your stomach out. Those calorie calculators are pretty much fiction. So much depends on your height, age, gender, activity level, weight, etc. The first thing to do is track EVERYTHING you eat and drink, to see where you are. Talk to your nutritionist/dietician. Don't be embarrassed; this is incredibly common especially during COVID. They have seen this before, I guarantee it. Talk to them about how many calories you need to lose weight and what your macros should be. I was told not to do a keto diet as the fat is too high. I currently try to reduce the amount of carbs I eat and make the carbs I do it complex carbs or fruit/veggies. For me, it's still hard to get much carbs in since I'm still trying to get enough protein at 4 months out. Don't try to be perfect: aim for 80% of your food being "healthy" with 20% "fun", or maybe 90-10 if that feels better. If you try to be 100% perfect, you will set yourself up for failure. Good luck and keep us posted!

I've regained the weight I lost

No, not at all. People think their stomach stretches, but it's not that easy for your pouch to stretch out according to my surgeon. I asked her after my 30 lb weight gain and had an endoscopy and she said my pouch was still good to go!

I've regained the weight I lost

Don't be ashamed. We're human. And that's what we're here for to listen and support and encourage each other. I did the exact same thing. I gained 30 lbs during COVID. Just got them off over the last 3 months. It IS possible to still lose after WLS and after a weight-gain. The tool still works, you just have to use it. Go back to the basics of tracking every single thing you eat and drink. Get your 60g protein, 64 oz water daily. It'll come back off. It won't be fast, but it'll be reliable. You can do it!
  6. I'm finally mustering up the guts to ask for help. I am 5' 2" and I had gastric sleeve at 205 lbs. My struggle with weight has been life-long. I dropped down to 155 and I was actually quite happy there, as I was down to a size 10. I consumed about 900 cal/day at that point. Everything went to hell in a handbasket when COVID hit. I truly do not mean to make excuses, because there are none, but there were situational issues. My husband was hit severely early on in the pandemic, the kids were doing remote schooling, I was out of a job, I wasn't exercising and I chose to deal with all of this by getting diet sloppy. And the weight has just been creeping up. I am now at 190 lbs. What's even worse, is that according to the 13cal/pound calculation, I would need to eat 2470 calories per day in order to maintain a weight of 190lbs. I don't come close to that. I average 1600, and usually not even that much. My metabolism has always been a problem, which I suspect lots of people can identify with. I have tried Keto and Atkins on and off, but they are not sustainable for me. I read up on Pouch Reset, but then also read about the weight regain. I'm considering intermittent fasting, or simply using my Baritastic app and dropping it to 900 cals. I even looked into a revision, but that wouldn't solve the core issues, which I can't even identify at this point. I'm so ashamed by this. I've made a mess of this but at the same time, I'm committed to fixing this problem. Help? Thank you...
  7. a lot of people seem to eat between 600-800 kcal/day the first few months (well, other than the first month - which is usually lower), and then gradually increase it. I was eating around 1000 by about a year out. However, there are some surgeons who recommend higher amounts of calories sooner. I would say if you're meeting your protein requirements, are feeling comfortable, and your weight is trending down, you're fine.

    Not losing anything??

I use my mobile device; i dont see where to fill out a profile. Im five eight. SW was 429. Current weight fluctuates between 376 and 374. I had VSG 12/1. Sent from my SM-N986U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. Except for a couple of days with the stomach flu and 2 snow days I've been to the gym every single day since November 22nd. Even when I couldn't make it to the gym, I've worked out at home by grabbing some soup cans, marching and tapping around the house, dancing, just moving doing anything I could, squats, etc. I don't do lunges!!!! 😀 So starting January 1st I noticed I was hitting 10,000 steps per day between working out at the gym for an hour and then again for 20-30 minutes at home later in the day. I've done 18 days in a row exceeding 10,000 steps. My new goal has been to get the whole 10k steps in while at the gym, which is a little harder because it takes 90 minutes to get them all in. So this morning I made it to 8,000 steps at the gym and now I need to get 20 more minutes / 2000 more steps in at home. I get 90 minutes of cardio in every day before lunch one way or another. I also did 15 minutes of strength training/weight machines this morning, but they didn't really register me any steps. I'm thinking about adding some weight lifting to my daily routine or maybe every other day starting in February. How much cardio do you do each week? What's everybody else been doing this New Year?

    Not losing anything??

Stalls are not unheard of here. they are really common and to be expected with weight loss surgery. So tell us a little more about you (it would really help if you filled in your profile...height, start weight, current weight, surgery or procedure)... Have you lost 26lb since surgery , since before pre-op surgery...lost more but gained weight since surgery?

    Clothes shopping weirdness...can you relate?

Totally relate to this. Not from this weight loss episode but from one years ago when I dropped 4 sizes in a few months (VLCD - I know, I know). My brain took *months* to catch up with my body so shopping took forever. I started off in the changing room with clothes that were ridiculously big, then brought in the next size down, and so on. Hope your brain catches up with all your good work very soon and enjoy your shopping (not for leggings, LOL)! ❣️

    Clothes shopping weirdness...can you relate?

Yup! I had lost most of my weight, I was still safety pinning my trousers on work clothes, to the point that one of my colleagues said they would cut them into ribbons if I kept wearing them! I used cast offs from smaller friends as I was dropping sizes fast. But when shopping I would pick up the size I thought would fit, my friend who came with me would ask what are you doing your not that size anymore. I think it's a confidence thing, you are so used to looking like a walking jumble sale, when something actually fits you are not sure that it really should or that it looks good! It took me until I has my tummy tuck done to realise I was actually quite small! 5'2" and 130lbs! Very, very strange.....but you will get used to it and then you won't be able to stop bloody shopping!!

    Not losing anything??

My surgery was November 26, I've only lost 26 pounds. Been on a stall for 3 weeks! Not one ounce lost. I'm so upset. Actually it showed I gained a pound. I get 90% of my water in and all my protein in. No changes in my measurements either Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Clothes shopping weirdness...can you relate?

I am not there yet but just realized you and I have almost same stats in terms of height and starting weight. 😆 I can't wait to get your current weight and BMI. Hopefully soon. I wanna reach the goal weight one day soon enough Ilso I can shop all I want till I am exhausted 😂😂😂 Have been waiting for the day FOREVER. Hoping to see it happen soon with both of us 🥳
  15. I’ve committed to getting gastric sleeve in April but I am barely 30 BMI. My logic is that I can pack a few pounds on ( who’s kidding- I love to eat and could easily eat to gain forever) but I’m starting to struggle mentally and I do some extreme exercise so burn through calories on occasion. Feeling like I’m almost “sport eating” when I’m not hungry because I want to make sure I don’t get down there only to be turned around for BMI under 30. I also would love to do a proper liver shrinking pre op diet without risking going under 30 BMI so right now enjoying some indulgence to put me well into qualifying range. Am I nuts? No I don’t think so, I am doing this because I want permanent change. Sure I could lose 30 pounds through giving up sugar and flour and weighing my food. I could put limits on how much beer I drink. Hot yoga, running etc. But I also go back to old ways. Gsv gives you that sort of permanence which you must adopt new lifestyle or face discomfort. I guess I am just looking for others who may have been thinking how I am thinking and found success with gsv. How different is it with a small stomach? How did you avoid unhealthy behaviors trying to stay above 30 BMI? Please be mindful how you comment. I am committed to changing my life for the better and just reaching out as an athlete, human, woman. Thanks

    Back to ER

I am so sorry you're going through this; I had different issues but was in an out of the ER and hospital for a couple months and it gets so exhausting and demoralizing--I felt like I had crossed the line between "losing weight" and "wasting away". I was so tired and depleted. I hope they're able to figure out a solution that helps you feel better and end the pain and suffering you're experiencing. I'm rooting for you; stay strong!

    Pouch reset

I can tell you as a woman that breast fed and produced barely enough milk, the hunger is beyond imagination. A whole large pizza with tons of toppings was one meal! The hunger was that ferocious! Those hormones take about a year to reset and now you are evaluating your goals. I agree with the above, start with your team. Journal to weigh pros and cons of more surgery or weight loss. Honestly, after month three I realized the rest of the weight loss is entirely up to me. Surgery is not a magic bullet. Weight loss is work no matter how you do it. How hard and consistent is really up to you.
  18. Hi all. Wanted to check in and see how folks are doing? I had my sleeve 12/9 and the weight loss is slowing already. Nutritionist says I’m right on track but it sure is hard not to see the scale moving. I’m tracking 100%, hitting my protein and staying well within calories. It can’t stay stalled forever right? also how the heck do you update current weight? I figured it out
  19. Im guessing your diet depends on your weight and BMI

    ONEderland!

Y'all! I finally cracked the 100s!!! Barely, but I did it!!! I might have been aided by a cold, and general winter malaise, but I did it!!! It might not have been as quickly as I'd hoped, but I DID IT!! I have not been this weight since 16 or 17 years old!? Just feeling super grateful for this tool and the progress is has helped me achieve. [emoji3590] Sent from my motorola one 5G ace using BariatricPal mobile app

Thanks, Catwoman7, that's somewhat reassuring and when put that way there is a certain logic to it. Right now, I think my BMI is 41 (I know my weight, but it's been so long since someone measured my height I'm honestly not sure if I remember it accurately!) so I'm also a little concerned that if the diet works, I'll dip below the threshold for insurance coverage. PS - Kudos on losing all that weight with the diet, though. Like most of us (I'd think) I know what kind of incredible achievement that is.

    Post Op Rants!!

Yes, frustrating! I have been at more or less the same weight for two months, wondering if this is the end of the line and I am meant to be this weight. (Which is within what my surgeon calls successful, just thought I’d be about 10 pounds less) What is weird, is that sometimes after I have eaten badly, such as after New Year’s, I lose 2 pounds. GL!
  23. 4 weeks out tomorrow and saw my nutritionist last Thursday she cleared me to go from purée to soft. It broke my stall and today I am 197.7!! I am still not hitting 1200 calories but I know when I’m full now unlike liquid and purée stage. I had real chicken cooked super soft yesterday and it was so amazing I felt human agin! I’m still eating cottage cheese but I didn’t purée it and I’m not sure when I’ll eat tuna again blah had enough! She also cleared me to eat white potatoes which I usually eat sweet potatoes but the store was out of them. So I had a small Yukon Gold potatoe (no skin) with a very small amount of organic grass fed butter (like real small 1/4 of a teaspoon) and about 1/2 of low fat sour cream topped with some fiesta shredded cheese for added Protein. I ate about 3/4 of it and was super full of course I didn’t eat the skin and I actually pushed off most of the sour cream it was just to much for me. But it was super yummy! Also I am up to 3 miles a day walking.  SW 227 Todays weight 197.7 VSG 12/22/2021
  24. I agree with Grady Cat. The whole point of the surgery is that your stomach is smaller so you won't eat as much. Also, as far as not enjoying food - unfortunately, that comes back for almost all of us. I say "unfortunately" because it will never in your life be as easy as it is right now to lose weight when you don't want to eat and don't give a flip about food. Take FULL advantage of that! Your hunger and appetite will eventually come back sometime during the first year (or at least it does for the vast majority of us - mine came back at five months out), and once it does, things will become a lot more challenging. So I know this sounds weird to say, but enjoy it while it lasts! I wish my hunger had never come back! P.S. I should add that you do need to meet your nutritional requirements, so at least eat what you need to eat for that. But food will just be fuel for you for awhile...
  25. 18 years... I don't count anything but meals of which I try to eat three per day. Meals are pretty much what they've always been since surgery: protein at about 3-4 oz and veggies/other an ounce or so. I don't measure, it's all just habit now. I rarely eat snacks. My weight stays fairly consistent where it has been for the last 15(?) years, which is a bit lower than my original super-wish goal. I couldn't even entertain the possibility I would be where I am now. My mental image of myself is beginning to sync with my physical self which is a weird sensation after all this time. Good luck, Tek
