    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

My goal for May. Lose 5 pounds which would put me at 144. I am simply a slow loser so I have to set realistic goals. Workout at the gym a minimum of 3 days a week however workout 5-6 days a week. Keep my calories under 800. I don’t eat anything on that list specifically but I do have sugar free pudding, crackers and low carb tortillas on occasion. I’ll decide later if I’m going to cut those out for 10 days. I have my 9 month follow up later this month and my recent bloodwork all came back great.
  3. I had bouts of salivating for 10-20 minutes and dry heaving for another 20 minutes two to three hours after dinner for almost a year before they figured out what was wrong A five hour surgery later fixed the problem thank goodness for columbia Presbyterian in NYC Hang in there best of luck

    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I'm going to sign up again, and hopefully I will do better in May than I did in April. *sigh* I'm currently pre-op, although my surgery is on May 16th. I know I won't be doing much in the way of activity (certainly not push ups) in the last couple of weeks of the month, but my goals for May are: lose another 5 lb before surgery (currently 245.6) by being very strict with my pre-op diet hit 12000 steps every day before surgery, and to walk at least 10 minutes 3x per day after surgery (more hopefully) finish prep for my family for post-op (finish spring cleaning and making freezer meals for them for the first 2 weeks) keep a positive outlook during and after surgery, and to be kind to myself.
  6. Ugh. So sorry LastMinuteLouise left you without a ride to your appointment. At least you can go tomorrow and don't have to wait too long. My surgeon says we'll try a second dilation in 7-10 days. It was a long day! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Carbohydrate intake

Same surgery date! I agree with the poster above that talked about carb sensitivity. At 3 weeks out I had lost about 25 pounds from the day of surgery (I started at 370). At that time I was also progressed to soft foods, not mushies but actual food. I started adding small amounts of mashed potatoes with my salmon or chicken and even about 10 cheez its per day (horrible decision I know. I was quickly greeted with the dreaded stall and then a relatively big gain of 5 pounds. I didn’t immediately realize it was the carbs and assumed it was a lack of water intake and simply a “to be expected” stall. After chatting with my nutritionist and doing a bit of research on here, I can say that I cannot handle carbs at this stage of my process. Mind you, I was still eating no more than 800 calories per day with the additional carbs. My safe zone seems to be keeping my carbs below 20g and my calories between 600-800. I have now seen my first loss on the scale after almost 10 days. I do plan to incorporate more carbs when I begin working out in one week.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

So I had my gastric bypass last Tuesday 23rd April. After checking in at 11am the wait was horrendous. I hadn’t drank anything since check in and my surgery was delayed by hrs I finally went in at 7pm and was woken up in recovery by 2am. My pain threshold is terrible so, when women I was in so much pain. I hated every second of it. Upon going back to my room I couldn’t stomach any fluids for 48hrs. Anything I drank came right back up, the vomiting and heaving was so so painful. They tried giving me juice and very thin soups but that didn’t work. In fact the smell of soup actually made me sick. Bless the nurses, they really tried o help me by offering me different soups but to no avail. Since I couldn’t keep anything down, my pulse and blood pressure went up and I was dehydrated which meant I had to stay in hospital. But different anti-sickness meds were given to me and I was put back on a drip fluids an morphine for the pain. After getting a nights rest I finally was able to start keeping fluids down. Sip by sip I started tolerating fluids again. Pressure and pulse went back to normal and dehydration got better. After 4 nights in hospital I was sent home. Thank God. I thought it would be great to be back in my own bed but I was mistaken. If only I could take the adjustable hospital bed home. I was so uncomfortable for the 1st 2 nights but as the pain slowly gets better I am finding comfort. I found a hot water bottle my grace. Drinking water is easy for me now but I’m still struggling with soups. The nausea has gone but I’m so full on the water that I can only have 1-2 spoon fulls of soup then I’m done. As for moving around. I’m up and about more now. But it was such a struggle to just walk 250m down the road, I would get so out of breath. Now on day 7 after surgery I can walk around more without getting out of breath but I DON’T over exert myself. I’m hoping to start working out again after day 14. This is just the start of my journey and without a doubt I am excited. My weight so far H/W April 2018 - 280lbs 1wk b4 surgery 16th April - 260lbs Weight 27th April 2019 - 249lbs Good luck to you all in this amazing journey

    Fruit!

I'm almost 10 months out. Besides having berries in my yogurt on occasion, I really don't eat fruit anymore. Technically you can, but I'd rather avoid all the sugar and focus on getting in my protein

I will try to create a goal board this evening. I'm finding short term goals as a really good motivator for me so perhaps I'll tie it to the May Challenge. I forgot to weigh in this morning since it's not my normal weigh-in day so I'll go with my last weigh in from last week. I'm ending this challenge 10 pounds lighter which was my goal. Ready to rock May and hopefully be better about posting daily to check in.

I've been following lots of people on Instagram and the rate of weight loss/when people lose weight seems to vary massively. You've mentioned not having a dietician appointment but has your hospital given you at least some dietary advice? VSG 27th April 2019 Starting weight 120kg
  18. Wow I'm so impressed! Congrats girl. You are an EF Beast!!!! WTG!!! Woooohoooooooooo 🍾🍾 You inspired me to keep going. I broke my fast last night cuz I started getting some eye infection. So I ate dinner. And this morning I just took a spoon of elderberry extract and 2 vitamin C pills. So my fast is fried. I was gonna go ahead and use the day to eat, but I think you inspired me again. Even though I took the meds, I will hold off on food until tonight if I can. My eye hurts like a some-b***h!!! I love Ozarka spring water and drink that exclusively. And yeah, water only...SMH. I'm not there yet. I just can't do it. So I will have: decaff coffee, plain, unsweetened, black decaff tea, unsweetened black (especially English and Irish breakfast teas) decaff green tea, unsweetened, clear decaff Earl Grey tea hot water with 1tbsp ACV (Bragg's Unfiltered) + 1 tiny wedge lemon (about 1/12 of a lemon) + pink salt--2 times a day water ************ If I just can't stand it any longer, then I will have a packet of Herb Ox Chicken or Beef Bouillon crystals in water. It's like 10cals and <1g carb. Zero protein in it, so it's not like the protein will break the fast. And I'm not worried about 10 calories. We gotta do what we gotta do to get through. You know?

Yes I had keyhole too. They did mention that I'd bruised particularly badly. I'm only 3 days post surgery so hopefully will start to feel better in the next few days. Yes you're right that it's a crazy journey! I first looked into the surgery in 2017 and decided to proceed, then pulled out due to fear, then decided to go ahead when it got to the end of 2018 and I was not doing any better with 'natural' weight loss. I'm mostly motivated by REALLY wanting a baby, which is just not going to happen with a BMI over 40. I've also seen both my Dad and Grandma struggle with multiple weight-related health issues from their 50s onwards - Type II diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure - and I just dreaded that being my life too. Why did you decide to go for it? X VSG 27th April 2019 Starting weight 120kg

I feel OK really, not great but not awful. I feel very weak and I imagine that's just because I'm getting maybe 200 calories a day. I don't feel my pain is well under control - I'm really sore. I have my first check up this afternoon and am going to discuss with the Nurse. VSG 27th April 2019 Starting weight 120kg

    First workout at the gym

We have to remember this is not just a one year to year or 10 year diet management plan it is a lifetime change. Can you imagine after losing the weight and afterwards thinking it's okay to eat a piece of bread here a couple of fries there or thinking because we have a small stomach that we can eat anything regaining wait that we've worked so diligently to lose. I thought yesterday that I could peel a chicken nugget and chew it until it was practically liquid I was sick all the way home it hurt it just laid there it wouldn't move. That's self torture so together we can do this and change and reset our brains. Don't get discouraged B positive and do this for you nobody else but you because if you take care of you and love you then you can help other people and help them to take care of themselves. Lots of love take care Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

Before the surgery I was 265 at my 1 week post op I was 243 but two weeks after when I weighed myself it’s say 250 am not sure what exactly is going on, like am really losing my mind . I had to stop taking my vitamins because they wouldn’t stay down so my doctor asked me to stop taking them until am ready I to take the in 4 weeks. Did anyone going through this.
