    150 Down

Great job! I started out strong with the walking daily after my surgery. I was so scared of getting a blood clot or something that I just went at it full on. I was up to 6 days a week. Since returning to work about 3 weeks ago I've gone steadily downhil. I went to 5 days a week. I changed my goal to try to walk at least 4 days a week to be "realistic" given I'm back at work. Sadly that lasted about a week. As of now, I've not walked for 4 days! I'm very disappointed. I HAVE got to refocus! Thanks for sharing....I'm just going to get back on the horse.

Kidney Stones - This to will pass!

Here's an update, my doctor's appointment a week after my lithotripsy was not good...the kidney stone did not break up so I still have two, the stint is still in place sent me home to wait another week because he thought he saw a small fragment in the tube.....today was my 2nd doctor's appointment ... still have 2 stones, one is getting close to opening...he gave me a choice --to go in and try to remove both stones or wait it out....I have been so miserable that I've decided to do the surgery and I hope he'll be able to get both of them out...won't know until Monday when ... have to be sure I have no infection..culture has to come back clean. Monday is also my next LB appointment. 4 weeks ago my LBS and I decided not to do an adjustment with all the things going on but he did set up this appointment 2 weeks earlier.... for the past three weeks my body has been playing with my weight up acouple pounds then down. I've fluctuated around 6 pounds. I noticed when I started this thread I was 301.5 this morning I was 302. I don't know if it's my frame of mind or that I need my second adjustment but I am getting hungry and it's getting harder and harder to stay with my 1/2 cup meals. Sometimes I think it's just my habit of emotional eating causing this. Then at other times I have only been adjusted once and I might need to have another fill. But again until this kidney stone thing is done I am having to drink so much Water and that's so hard for me to do at the present time do I really want to deal with more restriction and my water intake. I just don't know what my feelings are about it... I know no one can make up my mind but maybe some different thoughts might help me out of my funk! Any thoughts? Help? Deb

Kidney Stones - This to will pass!

Feeling a little blue right now...The lithotripsy was okay I guess...but when the dr. came out and let me know that he only blasted the 8mm stone that was moving around ...the stint has to remain in and in about 3 weeks we do this all over again. Not what I really wanted to hear. Also, let me know my secondary problem ...yeast infection would probably continue because of the antibotics I will continue to take. Yuck! I also have the task of drinking 16 oz of Water before going to bed...making sure I get up during the night to urinate and then drinking another 16 oz before going back to bed. Sip, sip, sip means I won't be getting much sleep. My DH is usually very supportive but his teasingly telling me to quit whining isn't what I want. Tomorrow is a new day and I will get up, look in the mirror and tell myself all the things I have to be grateful for like a loss as of today of 75 lbs, 1 lbs to go to get of of the 300's, that's been at least 10 years ago that I saw that. That this is not fatal and it will pass ...just will take a little more time. Patience!!! And that I feel I have someone to talk to and that I can be honest with about my weight and journey. Since I started this I have made a promise to be honest with myself, DH, doctor and my new found friends here at LBT. Gee, I guess I started tonight and mentally I am starting to have an attitude adjustment. Apples2, Thanks for sharing your thoughts about how things are going that for out ... I've been following the LB rules but sometimes I get a little scared that I might fall back into old habits...I agree with you that the benefits I am starting to have high energy levels, more activity, and better health...well except for these temporary set backs is worth the effort of my new lifestyle. Thanks, Doxie...I have pain pills right now helping me through the next couple of days ... and I keep telling myself as I strain my urine ...This to will pass. But it does feel good to know others are thinking of me. DH said time for me to go to bed ....Thanks again. Deb

I'd sure like to hear how your next week goes! Mine is in two weeks. I want it now. I feel the same as you do. I can't wait...and yet, I'm a little concerned about dealing with the port. Thanks for the description of how yours went. I feel better about it now. Good luck and please let me know if it makes a difference for you. Or how you feel about it. Take care!!!
  5. So I'm not sure where to put this post since it covers several different topics I guess Before I had my gastric bypass last year, as you all know 1 of the things that you have to do is see the psychologist. So I went & seen her, and she basically took the wind out of my sails. I had a binge moment before my surgery & I made the mistake of telling her about it. She then told me that I had to read a book called End Emotional Eating. I don't emotional eat, but she told me that I had to read this book before she would give me the green light. So then I tried several times to read the book & I just could not get into the book at all. I ended up writing her a letter letting her know that I don't usually binge eat, and that I am NOT an emotional eater, and all that good stuff. Anyway she ended up giving me the green light, and I had my surgery last August. What really upsets me is that I was doing great with the way that I was eating, and had lost weight, even with having quit smoking (I'm still smoke free & at the writing of this post I'm at day 456 (1 year 3 months). Thus far my lowest weight was 235, down from 281 on the day that I started my weight loss plan from the hospital. I had quit smoking on March 8, 2017 & I started my hospital diet on March 27, 2017. When she told me that I had to read that book, and she criticized me with stuff, she honestly threw me into a tail spin & I started cheating here & there, then fell off the wagon totally. Now don't get me wrong, when I had to do my pre-op & post-op diets I did them, with the exception of like the last 3 days of my final stage of my post op diet. We went out for Chinese with a friend of mine who's like my little brother. Unfortunately I guess that I had eaten too much & got sick. Fast forward to now & I'm back up to 250, I'm having more chronic pain that I had been having, and I'm extremely depressed. Trust me, I'm not going to do anything dangerous to myself or others. We also have been having money problems, though as of today things will get a little better since my husband will be back to working 6 days a week, not sure how long that will last, but we will take advantage of all the hours that he's getting. Plus he's working for cash filling sand bags for a pipeline. I NEED to get back on track. I can't keep doing this. We just got back on our medicaid insurance, and now that I've been approved for social security disability I'm just waiting to get on medicare. I want to find a counselor to talk to, but it's almost impossible to find someone that is taking new patients, or that will take medicaid. I just don't know what to do or how to do it. I sleep a good portion of my day, plus I'm drinking cappuccino for Keurig, way too much of it. It's 70 calories per 8oz cup, and I'm drinking 6 or more per day because I'm sitting home constantly. My car is in the shop & hubby is using the car for working. Monday I have to get up at 7 to make sure that I get him to work by 7:30a.m., and I have no clue when I'm going to get my car back from the shop. I'm beginning to feel like I'm a prisoner in my own home & am just really frustrated. We don't have public transportation. Needless to say, all in all, I just feel down, lonely, depressed, and frustrated with so much & I don't know which way to turn anymore. Maybe i f I can find a buddy that I can be accountable to that would help me to get back on track? And I can help them to stay on track as well. Thanks for hearing me out! Lauri

    Going thru the process

Relax, you'll be amazed how quickly that six months will go. You'll have all your pre-op appointments and you'll have time to read everything you can before you go into surgery. I was suppose to wait 6 months and somehow it got moved up to 4 months. I didn't ask questions! LOL In fact mine moved so fast I didn't have but one week for the pre-op liquid diet. POOR ME! Good luck and keep checking back here. This site has great info.

  8. Damn I'm scared , I love to eat But the one thing I keep thinking is by next year when I wear shorts or skirts my thighs wont rub together. and maybe a bikini ? who knows right ? But seriously when I went in for the first meeting we were given a printed copy of what to expect and seems like all were supposed to go on this two week liquid diet with one meal for lunch and no coffee???? I am up at 2 am Im not going without coffee , cut the cream yes cut the caffine no. But seriously a print out for all that doesn't seem correct . I see alot of the low carb people on here I think I will give my nutritionist a call I went for my pre op dr apt and he said I can feel your rib cage i can do your surgery? this is scary for me do they not understand ? or is this get as many patients in before medical insurances decide not to pay ?

What Are You Eating 21 Days Out!

I'm 27 days out and tomorrow I will switch from purees to soft solids... during the three weeks of purees I was eating greek yogurt, baked ricotta, soup, chili, sloppy joe, pureed meatballs with tomato sauce, scrambled eggs and turkey sausage, string cheese, a few slices of lunch meat, refried beans, SF popsicles, NSA ice cream, cream of wheat. It did get a little boring but, looking back, it wasn't too horrible.

    Ladies----->birth control question

I had to stop my estrogen pill 3 weeks before surgery and my surgeon told me not to take it for a month after surgery. Something to do with danger of blood clots.

Help me bama banders with preop diet

Don't worry, the 2 week diet will do wonders for your liver. It is not unusual to gain weight during the approval process (I gained 15lbs). Just do what your doctor says and keep coming back here for support, as well as, a good local support group. Congratulations! Looks like you will have the luck of the Irish on your side. =) Shawna
  13. Hi y'all.. .guess what??... I can log on here and finally post what I have been been reading from other for a year now..I HAVE A SURGERY DATE!!!!!! YEAH!!!!! March 17- St. Patrick's Day!!! I wish y'all could see the smile on my face as I am typing this- But, with that comes this great shadow of doom- the preop liver shrinking diet. I understand I need to drink liquids and eat one low fat meal a day such as grilled chicken and a salad. Will this work? I haven't been on the scales but I fear I've gained about 20 pounds over the last 9 months waiting to get my dr visits and preapproval done. Do you think I will be put on hold for the weight gain? And again, should I be able to do my liver anygood with a 2 week liquid diet? I feel like a fool.. help!

  15. I need a thigh lift. I am more terrified of this than the tummy tuck. Did you have an incision down the innner thigh? Did you also get lipo on the inner and outer thigh? What was your recovery time? I am thinking 2 weeks off of work, is that realistic? How much was the cost? I heard it was very painful so I'm pretty scared. How was your experience? How much did you lose, from what size, how much fat, etc. Sorry for all the questions!

    Food habits are weird....

It is not realistic or sustainable to hit a specific calorie goal every day of the world. And who would want to? Life is full of special moments and occasions and they often involve an increase in calories. You have to allow yourself those moments. It's part of life and more importantly, part of living and enjoying your life! And it's absolutely nothing to worry about if you manage your calories by "The Law of Averages". Let's play "what if" for a minute. What if you changed your weekday calorie goal to 1280 calories? About a 9% decrease. Five days a week. Now add 3400 calories for weekends. And you'll hit your average daily calorie goal of 1400, every single time. Will you hit that 1280 calories every single day? Almost certainly not. There will be days when you're over, and days when you're under. And when (not if) those days occur, you make minor adjustments to your goal, up or down, for a day or two and you're right back on track with your average. Realistic. Sustainable. You're in control. You're enjoying your life. Your confidence will soar. Life is meant to be good! Your post gives me the impression that you're maintaining a food log. If you are, good for you! If you aren't, starting one will change your life. My Fitness Pal is highly recommended. You can read some great comments from loggers in the thread "Food Logs Discussion". Commit to logging and you will be amazed!! You're gonna love the new you!!

WLS Part 2 - Electric Boogaloo

  19. Has anyone ever had Thyroid issues and ha the hardest time loosing weight, and then gets the Lapband....did you actually lose weight. Im getting Lapband next week and hope this will help me in loosing weight. I have had my Thyroid removed and cannot lose weight. It took the Dr. 2 yrs to regulate my levels. Before, it was removed I lost 70 lbs on my own.
  20. Drink more Water. Exercise more. Get rid of the "grazable" food. Force yourself to ONLY eat from a plate at the table - do not eat standing up, in front of the TV, away from the kitchen, or eat anything you can eat with your bare hands. Serve yourself a normal sized portion, then step away from the food. Plan your meals so you eat a few ounces of dense Protein every three to four hours - it will keep your appetite under control, and if you aren't hungry, you're less likely to binge or graze or overeat. Focus on how you feel before putting anything into your mouth - are you truly hungry, or are you eating out of habit or boredom? The thing about the band is that it won't stop you from overeating, or from making bad food choices. All it will do is dim your appetite, so you can use your common sense and willpower to control your eating, and promote your weight loss. If you take your focus off of food, and develop new habits, your weight loss will amaze you. If you allow yourself to repeat the bad habits that got you fat in the first place, you can guess what results you'll have. Your band gives you a great opportunity to change your life, but in order to do that, you need to actually change your behavior. Old habits die hard, and this is a prime example. Good luck! Dave

    Laughing at myself

HI, Totally understand. My surgery is next week and even though I have been through the band surgery I am scared to death. Sometimes I even think about canceling. After readying all the great posts I realize that I am even more chicken to cancel. So happy to be getting this band out and looking forward to the rest of my life with the sleeve. Flying from Florida on Monday and will be picked up and taken to Mexicali. There is someone who helped me a lot. Here screen name is WASA and even though I have rarely PM'd her, I would read all of her posts and answers. Just found this site and everyone seems so helpful. Good Luck on your decision. Karen
  22. What a way to Celebrate my 3 month anniversary of being banded! Tomorrow I go for outpatient surgery to get 2 large kidney stones blasted. Last week I doubled over in pain at work...I thought it had something to do with the lapband they called my husband and to the Emergency Room I went...past 3 hospitals on the way but I kept telling my husband to take me where I was banded...called my surgeon on the way and he said the ER....After the diagnosis of one BIG kidney stone stuck and 1 in the kidney, I had surgery to get the big one out...I woke up to find out they pushed it back into the kidney ...to big to get out. So tomorrow I get them blasted! Even though my lapband surgeon does not handle kidney stones he visited me in the hospital twice and sent his intern in twice just to see how I was doing. Has anyone had this done since banded...I'm nervous ....worried about it effecting my band. I have been so uncomfortable since leaving the hospital...pain pills, antibiotics, I feel like a walking pharmacy. Any encouraging words about the procedure? First day eating soft foods

I will be starting this next week. I have concerns about it as well. I have sample diet that was given to me. But am open to more suggestions. Thank you.

    First day eating soft foods

I'm 4 weeks out today and just started soft foods. I'm so happy to be eating real food! Tonight I got a burrito bowl (no rice) from Chipotle and it was amazing. Before anyone goes thinking I'm nutso for getting Chipotle, I'll get 4 meals out of it and each serving is 125 calories, 6g of fat, 6g of carbs, and 12g of Protein. I've been pinning recipes on Pinterest for months. I'm so excited to be eating meat again!
  25. I am 5 weeks out and feel like if I can eat anything. Of course I don't. I'm on soft foods but physically feel as if I can eat anything. Sometimes I feel like if I wasn't sleeved. Also sometimes I feel as if I ate too much in 1 sitting. Example Breakfast was 1 soft scrambled egg and 1 slice of deli turkey breast Lunch- green peas Soup about 4-5 ounces. Am I eating too much in 1 serving? Is my feeling of not being sleeved normal????????
