First fill and feel guilty when eating
needtorecover replied to Glennda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Maybe I'm weird but I don't feel guilty when I eat! I feel happy because I eat *less* even if it's not down to a half cup of food per meal yet. Pre-band me would eat this in a day: yogurt and banana for Breakfast, cheeseburger, fries, Cookies, and a coke for lunch, potato chips and French onion dip as a snack, chicken nuggets with macaroni and cheese and green Beans for dinner, and then ice cream or cookies for dessert. Plus I'd drink coffee with cream, sodas, juice, and milk all day. Now I eat a yogurt and banana for breakfast, a sandwich with fruit for lunch, nuts and a slice of cheese for a snack, and dinner will be a salad plate with a Protein, veggie, and carb divided in three portions. Sometimes I'll have a small dessert like a couple pieces of chocolate or an ice cream sandwich, or I'll have a glass of wine. Unsweetened tea, coffee, and Water to drink all day. That's maybe a total of 1/3 to 1/2 the calories I used to eat. I feel good and I feel like I'm getting enough so I'm satisfied even if I'm not 100% green yet. My doctor said I should feel satisfied on a half cup to one cup of food per meal and not need Snacks. I'm definitely not there yet so I'll keep getting fills but for now I'm just happy I'm satisfied eating so much less food than I used to. My appetite was a roaring dragon before my lap band. Now it's a whining puppy I can push aside if necessary. Point is, try not to feel guilty because you still need food to survive! As long as you're losing, it's working -
Maybe more protein in the afternoon? Lots of water and tea and not looking at tv commercials helps me. I also keep one good yogurt or low cal single ice cream as a treat for the end of my day. Good luck and post how you are doing! We care! And yes. I still fight the demons at night. After 9 years. Sometimes I have to go to bed and give up on the day. Sometimes. Snacking wins. Just not as often!

Yes let me know what you think. I'm curious to know how it compares to Greek yogurt.

Never tried it. But there are a few light Greek yogurts out there found in any store (like Light & Fit) that have the same calories and grams of Protein.

Sorry this is long, but I'm concerned.I had my very first consult with surgeon 2 days ago. We are approximately 4 months from surgery. I have been placed on a 3 month pre surgery diet. Of course when we get down to the last 2 weeks I will go the liquid route. My concern today, is this: I am T2 diabetic. I am drinking a Protein shake for Breakfast and then following meal guidelines the rest of the day. I began my day with a fasting blood sugar of 250. Took my insulin and other meds as prescribed. Drank my shake. 2 hours later I checked bs, it was down to 230, no insulin taken at this time. At lunch, 1.5 hours later.....it was 187. Took my sliding scale with lunch. 2.5 hours later checked bs, it was 56!!! I ate some fruit and a yogurt. checked it 2 hours later it was 67. ate dinner. Went to bed 4 hours later. When I got up this morning 175. I drank my shake and took my morning meds, took bs 2 hours later, 285!!! WTH? I am all over the map!! Has anyone else experience this? Should I hang in there, call surgeons office or call my endo?

I had a full yesterday after 2 years of being on 4ml. I am now on 6ml. I got home and had a bit of yogurt and coffee. Took almost an hour. All was fine except for my noisy esophagus. This morning I was OK, had some coffee sipping very slowly. Ever since I had the worst chest pain ever. Even struggling to breathe. I was sliming like crazy. Couldn't take the pain so I went to my GP to take out a ml. GP couldn't help as he did not have a "huber needle". I eventually burped and all was well. I had a few sips of milk as I haven't eaten in 24 hours. Barely took 2 sips before the pain returned. It's the worst pain and I surely can't live with it. So is the tight band somehow trapping gas in my chest? Will it go away or do I have to get unfilled? I can only see doc on Friday and it's quite a drive there. Don't want to go unnecessarily. Thank you. Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

I'm looking for ideas too. I'm 5 wks post op and eggs and cheese don't sit well with me too soon for nuts I'm afraid, which leaves nut butters, lunch meat (don't care for the sodium content) and yogurt. Any thing I'm missing? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I was wondering how many grams of sugar should I have per day. The highest I've ever consumed in a day was 26g of sugar. I'm still at my stall and was wondering if that's contributing to it. Also how many grams of sugar should I take a day. I'm eating yogurt smoothie which has 12g, then tuna which has 6g, then greek yogurt at 10g, then my Protein which 4g. I'm sorry it's long I'm just freaking out about my stall which I'm at week four of not losing any. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

3 Days Post Op.....
Kate Erdosy replied to Deleted Profile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 days out. No nausea, not much pain, no BM yet, first visit today. 6 lbs in 1 week - a bit disappointing, but 12 if I count preop. I'm not feeling much restriction at all when I drink. I may get a tiny bit of pressure, but that's it. I'm starting to wonder if I still have my stomach in there. I am allowed greek yogurt this week and oatmeal, but only 2 ounces. No problems eating those. Am I crazy? Did anyone else have such a smooth road the first week and after eating the first small amounts? I'm not ungrateful at all, but just beginning to wonder. -
7 days Post-Op Important Question
Inner Surfer Girl replied to jam1595's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What is your Protein target? What do your post-op instructions say? Post-op I was on Clear liquids for seven days and then full liquids for seven days. The next week was soft foods. My clear liquids included: Syntrax nectar, Isopure clear, bone broth, ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates, Water, crystal light, sugar-free Popsicles, sugar-free Jello, etc. In addition to the clears my surgeon made an exception and also allowed Premier Protein, ProtiDiet creamy chicken and tomato basil Soups. When I was on full liquids I was able to add in other Protein shakes (like GNC Lean shake 25) and other opaque liquids like V8, creamy soups, etc. I was also able to count protein pudding and Greek yogurt as full liquid. My protein target is 100 grams a day and getting in all of my protein and at least 64 oz of water/liquid is and was my number one priority post-op. -
I am 15 months out. I have not lost anything significant since September. It's very frustrating because I want to lose another 20 pounds. The surgeon is happy with my results though. Breakfast is always a MaxPro vanilla Protein powder shake mixed with 1% milk, a small banana, and a tsp of cocoa powder. Delicious! I still look forward to that every day! Around 10am I have a string cheese stick. For lunch I have either: 5 oz baked chicken and 1/2 c. cottage cheese or 2 oz hard salami with 2 oz of smoked gouda and some fruit, or a packet of tuna with a little mayo and a fruit cup. For afternoon, I will have a G2 and if I have some fruit, I will bring some to work for snack. For dinner I might have poached eggs, yogurt parfait, I like to cut up a couple chicken tenders and sauté with a Mexican flavored Mrs. Dash and have chicken tacos with a little cheese and sour cream. Last night I had leftover ham from Easter and some cottage cheese. I am single, so my menus are pretty simple!

Just in the beginning stages for getting a sleeve.
Inner Surfer Girl replied to redgoddess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome! I haven't really run into an issue eating out. I am single and actually cook more and eat more at home now than I did pre-op, but I still eat out on occasion. You probably won't want to when you are still on liquids, but it is doable if you plan ahead and make good choices. My number one priorities are Protein and Water. When you are on liquids you can usually find a clear Soup at a decent restaurant. Once you are on soft foods it gets easier. Choose a good protein: cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, soft fish, refried Beans, etc. You can also eat soft cooked veggies, but eat your protein first. When you are cleared for denser Proteins then turkey and chicken are great. I even get shrimps, scallops, pork tenderloin, etc. Tougher meats like steak are doable further out. Just choose a good protein and a non-starchy vegetable and you will be fine. I usually have lots to take home unless I order an appetizer portion. Unless it is fried fast food place, there is usually one or two things on the menu that are decent choices. Best of luck with your surgery and your recovery. Keep us posted on how you are doing. -
Hi all, I had a fill today. First in 2 years. Apparently I have a 10ml ring and I'm at 6ml today. Came home, had some drinking yogurt. Took me about 30 mins to drink 150ml, tried coffee a while later, not much luck. My esophagus has a bubbly sensation and is making funny noises. Will this go away? Will die of embarrassment in public. Dreading solids if this is how I react to liquids. Doc is so far. Only three in the country Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

Liver shrink... Am I eating to many carbs?
Renkoss replied to rmarylee09's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I'm on Day 2 of my 2 week liquid pre-op diet and all of you are very lucky! I'm only allowed liquids; as in broth, decaf coffee (no cream), decaf tea, SF Jello, SF popsicles, and I added a Light and Fit Yogurt in the mix since I am having difficulty getting in 800 calories. Yesterday I only managed 590 calories total. I had a headache all day too. I of course can use Protein shakes, but can only have a total of 60-80 grams of protein daily. With a Premier Protein shake, they are 30grams of protein for one, so if I do 2 a day, I only have 20 more grams of protein for the day. It's a bit tough, but doing okay so far. I am drinking chicken broth for lunch (2 cups equal 20 calories and less than 2 grams carb with 2 grams Protein. So it is my go-to to fill my stomach up when I get hunger pains. Hanging in there. Again, you are all lucky your surgeon is allowing so much actual "food" in your pre-op. Good Luck to you all. -
Liquid Phase Food Options?
KarenRene replied to fat2fitDE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 7 and made a beautiful stew yesterday and was so disappointed that I couldn't eat it. So I talked to my nutritionist and she said if I puréed it then I could eat it. Nothing tasted so delicious (even though it looked like disgusting baby food). I hate Protein shakes..I also don't care for yogurt, Beans, cottage cheese...so I was starting to go a little crazy on Jello and Water. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I agree with Sleevywonder - it depends on WHAT the smoothie/shake has for ingredients. I use the plain, NF greek yogurt as a base and water/ice or unsweetened almond/cashew milk and then add from there. In general my smoothies/shakes always have powdered flavored Protein (30grams of protein). I add to an unflavored powdered protein (26 grams of protein) a small amount of fruit 1/4C, or a small cup of fruit flavored NF greek yogurt. Then I only add water/ice/almond/cashew milk.

Smoothies - off limits?
Clementine Sky replied to swinglifeaway's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I never order smoothies when I'm out and about like I used to because they're often low in Protein and high in sugar, but I have them at home all the time. Trader Joe's Greek yogurt and Fage have around 22 grams of protein per cup and make a good base for a smoothie. Siggi's is also low in carbs and high in protein. I add a cup of frozen berries or nectarines that have 20 carbs or less, fresh berries, or something like Del Monte's natural peach cups (sugar free is 12 carbs). I top it with a couple of tablespoons of Trader Joe's chia seeds for protein and fiber, and then some ice. I also enjoy smoothies I make using Fair Life milk and Trader Joe's frozen sweet potatoes (which are relatively low in carbs) with a little sugar free Torani pumpkin pie syrup or pumpkin pie spice. I'll sometimes make smoothies using protein powder, milk, Pic's Peanut Butter (delicious and 1 gram of carb) or PB2. -

jstachic replied to Juhygtfrdsd's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I haven't been that tired, take chewable vitamins , I took my pain meds as needed, my sipping has slowed down bad on my part, I have not ran into any problems with yogurt or cottage cheese, the only 2 things I have tried so far I'm going to try egg tomorrow puréed with tiny bit of mayo , -
I just had a visit with my Nut. last Thurs.. She actually recommended that I ADD a greek yogurt/frozen fruit (no added sugar)/no sugar almond mild smoothie every day. She thinks my daily menu is lacking carbs. Time will tell, but it sure does add a well appreciated flavor bomb to my taste buds. Right now I'm taking a smoothie to bed with me instead of a Protein shake. I sip on it during night.

3 days post op......
krissy34 replied to Deleted Profile's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had mine done on the 24th as well - no pain medicine for the last 2 days and overall feeling good! Already tired of this liquid diet and craving yogurt and applesauce. I had a yogurt smoothie today and did pretty well with it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I have never been big on cooking but am trying to do more now. Does she like tuna? Stock up on tuna packets. Does she like cottage cheese? I eat cottage cheese all the time. Usually plain but I also dress it up sometimes. (Fresh tomato, tzatziki sauce, piacante sauce are some good and easy add ins.) Does she like Greek yogurt? I keep a bunch of Danon Light & Fit Greek as well as a big tub of plain or vanilla Greek yogurt. Both are great with fresh fruit or even some sugar-free jam or preserves.

Theme Park strategies
CarlaJeanne replied to Ronjohn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 3 weeks post surgery. I have a trip planned to WDW in a few weeks time. So I've already been giving this question some thought. We are annual pass holders and go to WDW regularly throughout the year. My food habits will be similar to what they were before WLS because I've never been in love with eating the park food. The Disney parks allow you to bring your own food. I pack our meals in a cooler-purse. You can bring your own zip-locks for ice. Then you can get free ice Water or, in this case, a cup of ice at all the walk-up counters in the Disney parks, no purchase necessary. Just ask for a cup of ice and transfer to your ziplock for your cooler bag. I bring picnic style food: deli meat, cheese cubes, cut up fruit, yogurt tubes, hummus and veggies, etc. Then I add crackers and/or Cookies for my non-diet guys, or they get a frozen treat after lunch. We drink the free ice water from the parks and skip carrying drinks. We eat our picnics on Tom Sawyer's Island in Magic Kingdom. At the other parks, we look for a shady, quiet bench. (I can get more specific, if you are interested). I find sitting outside eating our meal together more relaxing then fighting the crowds at the dining venues. I usually need a break from all the people as much as a meal. My son needs a chance to relax and I need a chance to loosen my grip. So for us the outdoor picnic suits our needs best. As an alternative to bringing your own, there is a Starbucks in each of the Disney parks. If you already like one of their healthy Snacks or have a drink you like, you can get the same thing at the park Starbucks. I eat the Protein snack: a hard boiled egg, Peanut Butter (sweetened w/honey FYI), cheese, fruit and a little muesli biscuit. Currently, Epcot has the garden festival going on. This year they have added food kiosks similar to those at the food and wine festival. These food kiosks serve small portions for a relatively small price. (Last year at the wine festival from the Scotland kiosk I ate a seared scallop on top of few bites of sautéed spinach. The Austrailia kiosk had a delicious little shrimp kebab.) I don't know what they're having this year. But there is always a kiosk or two devoted heathy fresh food. You can look up all the menus for every dining option Disney has online or with their app, in advance. So you can know what your choices are. I plan to look up all the Epcot garden show food kiosks before we go and decide what we want ahead of time. I have a five year old boy and like to plan ahead to minimize waiting around time. Finally, if you get something to eat at the WDW parks that you don't like, for any reason, return it for something else. No questions asked. They will be so nice and quick about it. I hope this helps. And I hope you enjoy your vacation. Happy trails. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
