  1. I was required to have chewables at first (still on them). My regimen for now is: Prilosec on applesauce upon waking Chewable calcium at breakfast Chewable calcium at lunch, and a B12 melt every other day Two Flintstones Complete at dinner BP med at bedtime (and my calcium if I missed one during the day) I tried the Bariatric Advantage Calcium first and it *ahem* upset my stomach quite a bit. I was glad I had tried it before surgery ha. Although, to be fair, I was also taking major vitamin C in the run up to surgery so that combo might have created the tummy/bathroom issues. I'm now taking the Celebrate calcium and while it isn't fantastic tasting, I try to just tell myself it tastes like a smartie 😅 not too bad.
  2. Any bariatric vitamin will do. You need a minimum a Multivitamin and daily calcium to start and then your team will adjust from that based on your blood work. The "melts" and "chews" are unbearably disgusting to me, so I would advise you try to find a "sample" size and taste them before you invest lots of money. Some plans allow capsules and some don't, I was allowed and luckily have no problems with handling them. Maybe you could ask about capsules, unless of course you find you like the taste.
  3. I use the Bariatric Pal One Daily multivitamin with iron. I also supplement with calcium chews and a collagen/biotin gummy. So far, so good.

    Snacks

Hey had my surgery 2/14 and am trying to find good movie Snacks that are fine after bariatric. I am not trying to "regular " snack just for when I go to the movies to deter me from getting popcorn or soda. I have found a few recipes online but am wondering if anyone has insight. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

  6. I just take Centrum Senior (two a day), and add in a couple of supplements - D, B12, B-complex, iron. Cheaper that way, but then, bariatric-specific vitamins mean less pills to take. So ....convenience vs. cost - I could make a case for either.
  7. Good afternoon love! Just wanted to reply to your comment and share a bit of my journey with u. I had a revision in December from a VBG(first weight loss surgery approved) in 2004 to a gastric bypass do to esophogus issues, heartburn and major weight gain. I lost 46lbs after revision. The vitamins I see you posted are great but expensive. I have blood check up every 3 months have been amazing and i take a Bariatric vitamin from amazon. 16.77 month. My health is fabulous. Look into amzon for vitamins love. It will really save you money and they work just as well. Please take your daily calcuim after revision and you will be just fine. Good luck and God Bless you
  8. I'm looking at the vitamins online and I was wondering if those of you that either originally had the bypass, or those who revised to it, can tell me which of these looks better? I know vitamin needs for bypass are different than the sleeve. Thanks!! https://www.bariatricadvantage.com/item/ultra-multivitamin https://www.barilife.com/product/just-one-chewable-once-daily-bariatric-multivitamin-iron/ PS - I will be adding additional biotin to whatever vitamins I end up with. like I do now. Just throwing that out there because neither of these provide the amount my surgeon recommends.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

April 27th/23...Mexico Bariatric Center. Is anyone else using the same center for their surgery?

    Mulit-Vitamins throuh Amazon

That's what my surgeon recommended as well. I'm currently taking 2 every morning. I did buy Bariatric Fusion 1 a day Multivitamin to start at my 1 month mark too. I'll see how that goes and post a review.

    May 2023 surgeries

I believe my date is going to be May 8th. That's the date they submitted to my primary insurance (united healthcare). I don't have bariatric surgery coverage with my primary though so I'm waiting for them to submit to my secondary (Aetna). Fingers crossed that's the date I actually get!!
  12. I was a slow loser I had my surgery in March of 2020. I could eat what ever I wanted to right after surgery. Which confused me. Don't freak out. I thought right after surgery I would lose all this weight and My medical issues would just go away. I was wrong. My first year I only lost about 50 pounds. It wasn't until I got my mindset on point was when more weight would come off Trust me your stomach is about the size of your fist. Just try and get your protein in first. Don't obsess over everything. It will hurt you mentally. So water protein and veggies. And walking 🚶‍♂️ My doctor's off was no help for me actually i really never had any follow-up with them which bummed me out. But I just kept doing my thing. Don't be hard on yourself. Everyone is different. I would try not to do the snacks, even the sugar free ones. And watching the carbs, your body need the good carbs. It wasn't until I was way past the 6 month mark that more weight started to come off. I used to get upset when I saw/heard/read about people who lost 100 in 6 months. Crazy. I was too hard on myself and that was also part of my problem. I started at 250 and really it wasn't until I was well into a year when more weight would start to come ff But that was me. So. Protein water and movement. There is is book out there Bariatric Mindset. I know your not a few months in. Please do not start to get upset. You will be surprised how your bodies react to stuff. You have to have a better understanding/relationship with food. It took me a long time to finally get it. It took years to get where you started at it will take time to get to where your going. Yes you should be losing a bit more than what you said. Be honest with yourself and really be accountable for what you choose to eat. No you won't stretch you new stomach out. It's all about better choices now. Read read read and get your water protein in first. You can do this. We are so hard on ourselves. Please don't be. As long as you don't have any pain. Just keep moving along. It will happen. Be honest with yourself and maybe start logging your food. You would be surprised at what you see. Like I said I started at 250 pounds and 3 years later I sit between 130-140 We are all different. Much love to you on your journey you can do this.
  13. We just got back from Barranquilla and have only good things to say about Dr. Jimenez and his fellow docs and staff who helped our daughter, a 16 year old. The surgeon as over 15 years of experience as a bariatric specialist and is himself a gastric sleeve patient. His assistant surgeon has a daughter who had the surgery when she was a teenager. And he has handled many other teenagers from the US as well as Colombia. His other staff doctor has had the surgery as well and done very well (7 months out). She handles the protocol/nutrition and questions, along with standard follow ups, at least one week, one month and several months thereafter. These we do virtually, but we plan to fly down for a follow up visit in 3 months. Our local hospital in Raleigh has a weight loss clinic for teens and they signed us up for local post-surgical care as well. We are very lucky to have them and to have found this nice group of skilled physicians in Colombia. He has very reasonable charges and no hidden or additional fees, no "selling," just good medical care in a top flight, modern hospital setting.
  14. I Highly recommend Dr. John LoMonaco in Houston. An amazing Surgeon and even better human. He specializes in Bariatric patients. I had a body lift, arm lift and breast revision. Relatively little pain. He is meticulous about infection prevention and my scars are very thin & flat.

    Huge stall, binge eating

Agree with everyone else here: get help now. Especially a bariatric therapist. You don't want to let it go on for too long or the way back will feel overwhelming (this was always an issue of mine). I think it's safe to say all of us are forever standing on that cliff, and it doesn't take much to stumble off the ledge. Good luck OP, you can get back on track.
  16. A friend of mine had bariatric surgery a few years ago, lost weight and she did slowly gain some weight back. She has been doing these injections for the last few months. She does get sick on occasion, but she has lost another 17 pounds. She looks great! I hope you all do as well!

    Huge stall, binge eating

I hope you can find help OP. I think (know!) the surgical restriction helps a lot but we also need to address our underlying issues with food while we have that restriction in order to keep our weight off in the longer term. If you can connect with a bariatric therapist asap to check what you're doing that you shouldn't be that might be a good first step. I wish you ALL the luck xxx We're here to help if we can.
  18. I wouldn’t recommend going to work 2 Days later. Have you spoken to your Bariatric Doctor to find out what the recommended time period off should be? I also had a Hiatal Hernia and on a strict liquid diet. Till Day 7 then I go into phase 2. I am very sore and swollen and taking one thing at a time.
  19. I had my 2 week post op appointments yesterday with my Nutritionist and the Dr. in charge of the Nutrition Clinic, the pharmacist and my surgeon. The Nutrition Doc put me on the bariatric scale and my body fat % is the same, so I'm losing as much muscle as fat. During the full liquid phase I was consuming an average of 534 calories a day, 66oz of water/shakes and 72.4g protein. I didn't just drink shakes, I ate yogurt 2x a day and pudding/protein too. I walked around my house quite a bit, but I only got about 2 hours of "exercise" because THAT incision was so painful the first week, and the second week somehow I triggered my back pain (the surgeon said that since it started hurting when I tried to increase my walking time, that the surgery could have triggered it). OK, that's the background. My Nutrition Doctor was disapproving of my calorie intake and told me I should have been getting at least 800 calories a day (she never told me that, my goals were 48-64oz of fluid and 60-80g protein). She said if I needed to, to sip on protein shakes during the day to bring my calorie and protein up. My surgeon said that getting less than 600 calories a day isn't unusual and not to worry about it, don't make myself eat. That I should take it easy until the episode with my back ends and then try to start walking and use some light weights to start building muscle. So, it wouldn't be a problem if I could do both, but now I'm on pureed/soft foods and as much as I was looking forward to it, I just don't want to eat. I didn't feel hungry during the last phase either, but I ate and drank as scheduled. It wasn't a problem, but it did take ALL day. Now, I get a few bites down and I don't feel full, nauseous or in pain, I just REALLY don't want it. It's confusing because I don't know how to read the signals anymore. Since the surgery, my stomach will growl and my mind says "I must be hungry" and at the same time "I don't feel hungry". So now, am I full or am I just repulsed because my tastes have changed? I used to drink plain water all the time, now it tastes bad. Do I go back to full liquids and add more shakes so I can get the 800 calories or do I press on with Phase 3 and try to find soft foods that I can make a whole meal out of and not worry about the calories? I don't feel like I can do both because while I had no problem with Phase 2, I don't think I can get the extra calories/protein while trying different foods that I may not want to eat after a few bites. I'm supposed to get at least 32oz of fluid from water, not shakes.
  20. Alrighty! I jumped all the pre-surgery hoops, from psych profile and initial meeting with dietitian (who was great- went way beyond "food" to discussing behavior), got the cardio sign off after a chemical stress test and even though my primary was ambivalent, he talked directly to the bariatric surgeon- they know each other. It is a small medical community. Everything got submitted to Medicare for approval of insurance coverage. I use nicotine replacement therapy-- nasal spray- it helped me get off the ciggies 13 years ago and that apparently isn't a problem either. So I'm now waiting for the green light from Medicare. (I have a good supplemental program to back it up). I've got fingers crossed that it gets approved- I find my mobility worse than ever, breathing difficult given mild COPD and carrying this weight isn't just a cosmetic/ego thing- it is dragging me down. I have a hard time getting around, climbing stairs, walking any distance. Wish me luck. I'll let you know assuming I go in and get it done- I have Barrett's, GERD and atrial fib (which I attribute in part to the weight gain). I know I have work to do- this is not magic bullet, but I'm psyched! I've been on a modified FODMAP diet for a while. I'm getting close to 70 years old and want to have another ten or more years to travel and do things. I thank all of you for your support. I'm sure I'll have questions as this process continues. But, my continued thanks for this forum and its participants as a resource. regards to all, D6

    Hair Shedding & Hair Loss

The hair loss was scary. I can now see 3 inches of new hair growth. My surgery was in 11/2021. My hair was everywhere. I was afraid it wasn’t going to grow back. I took plenty of vitamins. I don’t think you can do anything to stop it, so save your money and take your regular Bariatric vitamins.
  22. I'm not a huge coffee drinker and they told me I can drink coffee and tea. I asked at my dietician appointment today. I know im not supposed to have sugary drinks and what not. That's why I'm asking what everyone's go to bariatric friendly Starbucks drinks are 🤣 to give me ideas if I want to get a Starbucks drink. I see a lot of people getting a shot of expresso. 2 packets of zero calorie sweetener, in a large cup and they fill the rest with their protein shakes. But due to the fact I can't stomach protein shakes, I wanted something that I don't have to add it in. I saw another Starbucks recipe for bariatric patients for the pink drink.

    Hair Shedding & Hair Loss

I had Roux-en-Y surgery Nov 2, 2022 and about a month ago I started losing LOTS of hair but that is about on course for me. It happens about 4 months after ever surgery or if I run a fever of 104. I’’be added a Bariatric Fusion vitamin (purchased on Amazon) specifically made for hair, nails and the like. You can also add biotin to your diet. And what they say is true - my hair has always come back after a few months. Im just so glad au have very thick hair. (at least I did pre-surgery)
  24. First, you should ask your surgeon about his/her guidance on caffeine after surgery. Most surgeons don't want you to consume caffeine for a certain period. (Mine recommended a year after gastric bypass, which is when I resumed drinking coffee.) I think the only acceptable option would be black coffee, with skim milk and artificial sweetener if you like. (That's my go-to drink every morning, made at home.). You really shouldn't do anything with sugar or fat after surgery, including whole milk, syrups, whipped cream, processed sugar, etc. Any of those would be empty calories when you should be prioritizing protein. When your surgeon says you can have caffeine, you could do an iced coffee with skim milk, but I'm not sure there is any way to make a Frappucino bariatric-friendly.
