The need to eat until stuffed
ShelterDog64 replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's almost ALL about self-control at where you and I are post-operatively! You're not meeting your protein goals, which is devastating to weight loss and feeling satiated by your food. I've not done the best job during the holidays, and I'm in a 3 week long stall right now. I know it's because I'm not keeping my carbs down and my protein up, and I'm not tracking every bite I put into my mouth. You should be losing more/more consistently than you are, maybe a re-start with Protein shakes and then advancing yourself through the different stages to reset your diet would be helpful. And you don't mention using any Protein powder...I still have to use it to get my protein grams high enough. On a normal day, I use GENEPRO unflavored in my morning coffee, so I start off with 20-30 grams of protein in a 12 ounce mug of coffee, with monkfruit sweetener and cream. Some days I have a container of plain yogurt with a little low-carb granola mid-morning, or cottage cheese with a tablespoon of pureed fruit stirred in. Lunch, I eat a cheese stick and a couple of slices of deli turkey. I have a handful of almonds or half an apple with Peanut Butter for an afternoon snack, then 3-4 ounces of my family's dinner protein and around 1/4 cup of vegetables. And I almost always have a sugar-free popsicle before dinner. That typical day gets me about 850 cals, 95 grams protein and 50 grams of carbs, with only 21 of them being sugars. I lose when I'm eating like that...80 lbs since the end of June. You've got the tool in place, you just need to commit to using it correctly, find ways to distract yourself when you're hungry (exercise, clean house, work, garden...whatever works) and get back on track. There's literally no reason for you to NOT be successful! Go get it, you CAN do this!! -
I'm right there with you. Protein water and really, shakes, make me gag right now for some reason. My saving grace has been adding Genepro to soups and sugar-free hot chocolate. I also couldn't stomach the traditional protein shakes for some reason, so I switched to one cup of skim milk with Carnation Instant Breakfast Light Start (no added sugar), with a scoop of Genepro. That packs a protein punch of over 35 grams. You can add it to anything. I haven't tried adding it to regular water, though. I personally have a Moroccan Mint green tea bag in my water bottle and I sip that all day without a problem. I think the mint calms my stomach.

Do you mix the Genepro with water first to dissolve it ? Or just put it in the liquid egg? Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -

This is one egg , 1/2 Genepro protein powder, a handful of baby spinach, and a tbsp mozzarella cheese. The protein powder really fluffs up the egg. 148 calories and 25 g of protein. I ate it all except for a few bites. -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
GettingThereOneDay replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! Little late to the group but better late than never I had my surgery June 23rd. I've lost 33 lbs total so far but 15 lbs of that was on my pre op diet. I'm still on liquids till Thursday then I go to puréed foods & I can't wait!! I've had several dreams of real food! I couldn't stomach the premier Protein shakes after surgery they just felt heavy in my stomach so GENEPRO and fair life chocolate milk has been my savior. I'm over the sweet though! And have to admit I may have licked a potato chip just for some salty goodness! I know it's horrible but I didn't eat it! Glad to join the group and loved reading all your posts! Your closet looked like mine and I hope you use everything because I certainly did not. I bought so many different Proteins, $$$$$$$$$ and other products recommended that I just didn't use, grrrrr. I only use premiere Protein and GENEPRO powder that I did stick up on. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -

Hi MoreThanWords, I am still a few of weeks out, but I also was worried about what to eat, so I wanted to be prepared and get some the clear liquid & full liquid staples before I start my pre op diet. I have tried some protein shakes from Unjury & Premier Protein. They were ok. Not a fan of vanilla now, but that may change after surgery or if I get tired of chocolate. I like adding them to coffee (Unjury had a cappuccino flavor, I want to try it with caramel flavored Premier Protein), and will probably do that once it is allowed. From Walmart, I purchased some sugar-free drink mixes, chicken broth, veggie broth, beef broth, sugar free jello, & sugar free ice pops. Some items were name brand and others were Walmart brands. Trying to save $ where I can as supplements, vitamins etc. all add up. I bought a tub of chocolate Premier Protein from Walgreens. Yesterday, I placed my first order on BariatricPal and ordered Aunt Millie's broths (pho & Thai), BP Protein soups, BP protein fruit drinks, & Genepro Unflavored protein mix. Last week I ordered some cups for shakes, water, & broth. I got one cup with a strainer for traveling (in case I need to order soup & strain it). I still need to get vitamins, hibiclens, and prilosec before the surgery. Before the puree & soft stages I want to purchase a mini portable chopper/processor & food scale. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I see us probably having a lot of broth and soups in those first few weeks. Jenfs5, thanks for recommending Fairlife, I want to try that brand now, too. Also worried about those clear liquid days (after surgery probably won't be bad as it isn't long and based on others experiences-you aren't that hungry at first). Hopefully, the excitement of being so close to our surgery will make it a little easier. I read other people say that the broth helped fill them up and jello helped give the chewing feeling. (Not a big fan of jello, but when you are only allowed a few things it may be nice to have) Best of luck everyone! -

Congratulations on losing 20 pounds. 16 to go is so close! From what I read and what my doctor's office said, the first 6 months of weight loss is the biggest & then it starts slowing down, especially as you get closer to goal/healthier weight. People can lose beyond that first year, but it seems to be harder. I'm sure gaining it back is easy to do if old habits return. I have been adding genepro (unflavored protein powder) to my yogurt or to iced coffee to help reach my daily protein goals. I understand it can be hard to get it all in. I think your idea of adding it to your soup & yogurt is a great way to get protein in if you are having difficulty. Maybe start with 1/2 serving added to a beverage or liquid/mushy food (soup & yogurt, as you said)? (I mix it with a little room temp water before adding it to hot or cold beverages & then slowly incorporate it) The hairloss gets better. Mine is coming back in, so I have all these shorter hairs mixed in with my long ones. Wishing you luck in losing the 16 pounds & maintaining your loss. -
I'm getting violent without caffeine
ShelterDog64 replied to mollydeez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have to give up coffee pre-op, and my lovely PCA pump with morphine took care of any withdrawal headache I might have had post-op. I gave it up for about a month afterward, to give my stomach some healing time. Now, I drink 1-2 cups in the morning, with a GENEPRO, Fairlife milk and half and half concoction and some monkfruit sweetener. -
Is this correct? Standards for carbs and proteins as per dietitian....
Katcloudshepherd replied to natalie_christin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't count calories or worry about fat. I concentrate on getting that 64 ounces of Water first, then getting my Protein in. I get a MINIMUM of 60 grams. I keep my carbs as low as possible--although I don't count them so to speak. I just make sure whatever I eat is extremely low in carbs. I find I do much better if I get MORE than 60 grams of protein a day. I live on GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder and Quest bars. I work full time, commute a total of 1.5 hours a day to work/home and my husband is 100% disabled. I just don't have the time to cook. The least expensive source of protein would probably be eggs. I think as far as meats, chicken and turkey are less expensive than beef. Fish, depending on what type, would probably be as expensive, or more so than beef. I haven't been able to exercise this week, I've been sick with an upper respiratory infection. I hope to get back in the pool next week. I haven't lost weight in some time. I think I've hit a plateau. If I don't loose any more--it's fine with me since I'm down to a good size. I'm not worried about a number on a scale, or a clothes size--as long as I feel good and can move well that is my primary concern. -
Thanks. I've been using GENEPRO since the day I got home but I can taste the whey Protein and really don't like it even though it blends well (after mixing and letting it sit for 5 min). I have yet to try the Isopure. The Atkins Lift drinks gross me out so I have been apprehensive about Isopure. Also just so I don't confuse anyone, I changed my profile name from HalleJillyah to Jill_me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How can I take 70g of protein a Day HELP!
amandastearns replied to leonelbreton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could t get with the isopure personally but it's worth a try! Also, I have genepro protein it's tasteless and flavorless so you can add it to just about anything for the extra protein. It comes in handy! -
And completely excited! Surgery is Jan 17! I start my pre op diet Saturday which consists of 4 Protein shakes and for dinner chicken breast and veggies. I feel completely prepared. I have every kind of protein I need. Premier shakes in 4 flavors, GENEPRO powder, unjury chicken flavored powder, 3 flavors of Quest powder, the sample packets of nectar and a tub of unflavored Nectar. I have the things I will need on a bookcase so i don't have to bend or reach. Got my freezer full of stuff my son can have for dinners plus tons of Snacks for him. I have a woman from a local organization who will come check on me for the first couple days. Filled all my prescriptions and picked up a months supply of Vitamins and that antibacterial stuff you have to wash with. All that's left is wash the sheets and blankets and scrub the bathrooms! I'm ready to go!!! Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
Jai D replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I found that pudding went down the easiest and was the most filling post op. Pudding also counts toward your fluid intake as it’s a full liquid. Not sure if you are past the clear phase but I would suggest you try sugar free pudding and maybe some Genepro to add to your liquids. Soup also helped me get my fluids in. Drink a little .. take a break.. drink more.. repeat.. best of luck! -
Unflavored protein powder
triciakae replied to glitterpockets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 months out and I tried unflavored unjury. Ewwww I gagged on it. I heard about GENEPRO and ordered some. It was a life saver for me during pureed phase. To me it was tasteless and I couldn't smell it either. A little bit goes a long way. My nutritionist approved it also. She also said that Premier Protein shakes are the wrong type of protein and our bodies only absorb about half the protein you drink. I didn't know that at first and I was drinking them and felt completely exhausted all day. The Syntrax flavored Proteins are pretty good. They are pretty sweet thought but for unflavored I would suggest Genepro. -
Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
Jai D replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The biggest misunderstanding is you don’t need 64oz of “water”, you need 64oz of fluid. Fluid includes full liquids too like jello, broth, sugar free pudding, water, protein shakes, drinkable yogurt (yogurt with milk added), etc. As for the protein if you add two scoops of Genepro to a 16.9 oz water bottle that’s 60 grams in itself. Sip that bottle throughout the day and you’ll get 60 grams from that & then get your extra 20+ protein from foods like eggs, beans, ricotta, yogurt, meats, etc. Hope this helps! -
Day 4 post op

Does your Dr say not to use Protein drinks now? I still use protein every day. I add GENEPRO to my coffee. MJy dr doesn't have a problem with using protein to help get all of your protein in. -

Candigal replied to ayanna_vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are you struggling with? I'm 9 days post op and I will tell you the first four were hell for me. I was depressed, regretful, and just miserable. I couldn't get the protein down because no it made me gag, I just wanted a cheeseburger and to cry! I started using Genepro and by day 6 I felt human again. At one week I got on the scale and had lost 20 lbs! It does get better, let me know if you need someone to talk to. 😊 -
Hi Lisa, I used unflavored Genepro.

Syntrax Nectar taste - Clear liquid help
CanyonBaby replied to jas84047's topic in Food and Nutrition
@@jas84047 I use TG's and GENEPRO. Genepro has 30g per scoop, which is half the amount of most unflavored powders, but there have been questions about whether or not it can truly offer such Protein value per 15g serving. So I alternate it with TG's, which has a hefty scoop, and not as high protein value (I believe it is 25g per scoop). Yes, there is a taste to unflavored protein, I liken it to coffee creamer flavor, but not as sweet. With the Water Enhancer drops, you hardly notice the protein flavor. Remember, unflavored does NOT mean there is no flavor, it is just that they don't ADD flavor. You can also add the powder to just about anything wet: Soups, V8, other juices (watch the carbs!), scrambled eggs, coffee/tea (try iced - I like chai-spice iced tea!!!) chili, stews..... You may have to mix it with a little cool water before adding it to hot foods (or it might clump). Be creative and when you find new ways to use it, please SHARE!!!!! I meant to say TWICE the protein of most powders, for GenePro. Not half. SORRY! It is half the scoop size. -
Clear Protein shakes: Isopure NoCarb, whey juice, Cytosport. Traditional protein shakes are powder or RTD look for brands such as Isopure, Premiere Protein, Syntrax nectar, Orgain Organics, etc... they are either premixed or powder form that can be mixed with milk of choice or Water. If you are looking for clear savory beverage. Unflavored Protein Powder can be mixed with clear broths or Soups. Isopure, GENEPRO, unjury and Syntrax make an unflavored version. Your local GNC or Vitamin shop may also have a variety of unflavored whey isolate powders.

@@jas84047, I'm a big fan of the lemon tea, and using a shaker bottle fixed my foam and clump problems completely. Avoid GENEPRO - it's impossible to have 30 g of Protein in 15 g of powder, their labelling is misleading and no studies to date have shown their 15 g of protein to be better absorbed, etc, than other protein isolates. Another, savory option, is pho broth. It's rich, salty, savory, and packed with protein. Check out the recipe here if you like - this stuff kept me going post-op and had enough calories (more than Syntrax per volume) to give my body what it needed to heal quickly despite the minimal volumes I was able to consume. I also have a protein-packed jello-like recipe if you like here. Congrats, by the way, on your surgery choice - I'm so excited for you - this side of things is beautiful!

2/9 Surgery Date Team
It's Time replied to Positive44's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
JennsJourney I am now averaging between 90 and 100 grams of Protein per day - I have some form of protein shake/ mix for Breakfast everyday....with premier I make a cold caramel coffee drink tastes like a cold caramel macchiato from Starbucks: I take a cup of decaf coffee and about 2-3 tablespoons of sugar free caramel and mix it into a large cup of ice with vanilla or chocolate premier. If I don't have time to make coffee at home I stop at Starbucks and get a grande iced Americano with 2 pumps of SF caramel in a trenta cup and dump the shake in it.....my other go to is a latte: I make a cup of coffee and I will froth 1 cup of skim fair life milk (which has like 13 grams of protein) add a teaspoon of GENEPRO Protein powder (30 grams per tablespoon) and a few tablespoons of some SF syrup yummmmm I swear by both drinks My weight loss is so fickle but I weigh myself everyday, which helps hold me accountable and know what my body didn't appreciate the day before - I find that with the increased protein, and exercise the scale will move, so I average a few pounds a week but I do have my no loss weeks and have considered myself a slower loser .... The weight will continue to come off, just continue your path I also have thin hair and I have some hair loss but I take 10,000mg of Biotin everyday which I think has helped with some loss Overall I am doing well, I wish the weight would just be gone in the morning when I wake but we know that won't happen Hope this helps, let me know if you need me to clarify anything or if you have any other questions -
Any ideas? Getting sick!
mipookiebear replied to genn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like flavorless GENEPRO Protein powder added to SF hot coco, herbal tea or broth. It is 30 grams of protein. -
Had my surgery 3/29 as well. My surgeon has me on clear liquids for 10 days, full liquids would start tomorrow [Fri 7th] but I started today. I had to have something else. I woke up this morning and was just dragging my feet, like it actually took effort for me to pick my feet up as I walked instead of shuffle around. Full liquids is 10 days, soft/blended is minimum of 10 days and once I tolerate everything well in that phase then I can move on to the next. I haven't had any problems getting liquids down. Even managed about 100 oz on two separate days [no joke]. I tried an Atkin's shake today w/ 1/2 tablespoon Genepro added to up the protein from 15g to 30g and it went down smooth... and stayed there. I will say I can only have 2 oz of the protein shake before I'm done, I may even decrease it to one ounce because I get full. So I've definitely had a harder time getting my water in with the protein shake today. I plan on putting myself on a schedule to help. I'll see how it goes.
