    more meal prep ideas

I make meats each week. Usually 2 or 3 different ones to use as bases. That way if I have grilled chicken, I can just pull off 1 1/2 or 2oz and mix it up any way I want. Same with fish/salmon/shrimp. Same with lean pork--I'm doing as well with it as with the chicken. I'm weird, I like chicken breasts rather than thighs. Meh?... I will spice the meats differently. Some weeks it is basic s/p/gran garl. Other weeks it may be Greek or Italian or Asian. I also freeze in 4oz cooked portions so it's easy to split. I also am now digging adding salads back using very simple ingredients. So far only baby spinach, red onion, low fat feta and WF zero cal Italian. But it's so nice to have part of an egg and some turkey on it. Or toss with white beans or garbanzos. Etc. I have a ton of different meat lube that spices the meats up and changes them: sf bbq sauce, Classico Asiago Romano Alfredo, Central Market Taste of Italy Marinara, Brown Chicken Gravy, Brown Beef Gravy. I also keep baby spinach and baby super greens, broccoli crowns, zucchini, yellow squash, and mushrooms as well as tomatoes/gr toms and avocados, onions on hand. I have frozen veg like green beans, greens of all kinds. And have canned beans of different types. I also keep different cheeses, frozen blueberries, cottage cheese, Grk yogurt, sf applesauce on hand. I can literally never eat the same thing twice this way with minimal weekly prep and keep variety alive!

    Need friend in Kansas City

I know some that did eat baby foods but personally YUCK! and a lot of my band friends threw stuff in the blender like roasts and said they tasted great again I just couldn't get past it. Once I switched over to the creamy/mushy phase at the 14th day I was all over the various cheese Soups if they had veggies in them I either gummed them to oblivion or fished them out. I couldn't be bothered to do the whole blender thing like I should have. I also made a variety of Protein puddings by mixing whey protein powders with instant sugar free puddings. (Chocolate, Cheesecake, Lemon or Lime, etc..) Later I discovered an even healthier option where I would blend Cottage Cheese until smooth and replace most of the milk called for in the pudding recipe with that instead. It had a much higher protein to carb ratio and tasted great. Most people think it sounds disgusting but really it tastes very creamy like you made it with whole milk (no hint of salty at all) Oh and if you freeze the puddings for a while before you eat them and stir them up they taste like eating soft serve ice cream. Yummy. Right now one of my favorite protein rich foods is Cottage Cheese with some Yogurt and a Cherry or Rasberry Crystal Light bottle Water packet stirred in. I've just been feeling too lazy to take the time to blend up the puddings and mess up the kitchen. But I'm not sure if cottage cheese would be considered "soft" enough for the 14 day mark. This stage was SO HARD for me but I just kept repeating to myself I can put up with anything for just a couple weeks and being self pay I couldn't risk the possibility of having to pay for any complications much less the loss of money with more time off work without pay. Speaking of work, one of these days I may need to talk to you about the whole teeth whitening thing. I'd love to do it but always assumed too expensive. Tried one of those home kits once and was VERY sore and dissapointed though I managed to get my money back. I personally think I would need veneers to do any good on my teeth. (though I'm not nor ever was a smoker)

Calories at 8 weeks post op

What Protein shakes have you tried? In those first few weeks I hated Protein Shakes, I could not find any that I liked. I ended up not getting enough protein in and in the long term that is a huge problem. You should get a minimum of 1 gram of protein for every inch you are tall as a minimum. I ended up trying Premier Protein ready made shakes. The chocolate flavor is the best. There are 30 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar and 160 calories. It is an excellent choice for a supplement. You can buy at Sam's or costco. Recently I had surgery on my neck where they went through my throat. It has caused me real issues and basically put me back on soft foods. From what my doctor said, this could go on for months. I went to my Bariatric team for help. They gave me a whole bag of Protein shake samples to try. Syntax nectar - fuzzy naval is excellent, I also loved the Caribbean cooler and vanilla bean torte. They don't have that horrid protein taste. I use Water for the fuzzy navel and milk for the other two. I ended up order a box of each of these flavors in the grab and go packets I purchased these on line via Amazon.. I have been eating a lot of cottage cheese which has great protein, pudding - I eat the real thing not sf, yogurt, cream of wheat, homemade Soups, cooked vegetables cooked very soft, I am struggling with most meats because of the swallow issue right now but most fish will work. I am surprised your doctor has you focus on calories vs. protein. I am able to get between 900 and 1100 calories a day and easily hitting my protein goals. If you cannot get your protein through food, which I still cannot you have to supplement or you will get sick. I wish you the best of luck!

    Can't stop binge-ing

Aww.. you already did hit yourself, with 2500 calories that made you feel horrible. I know when Im around that time of the month I get ravenous. Try taking emergency food to work with you. Things you can snack on to your hearts content without guilt. Low fat microwave popcorn, carrots, yogurt, a low carb bar that tastes like chocolate and Peanut Butter. Things like that. We were just discussing binges on another thread and all agreed that when this happens with the band, a binge is a few of this and a bit of that. Not 2500 calories at a time. The band will help, and you'll be fine. Also, try eating some brown rice. It's great for you and the carbs are like a fine sedative without side affects - unless you eat too many. hehe Hang in there, you'll make it thru this. *hugs*

    Post Op Portion Control?

How slowly are you eating? I chewed 30 times, and waited one minute between each very small bite. I think that gave my tummy time to send the signal, but I still had issues at first. I didn't try Rtiz crackers. I could eat one or two saltines and about an ounce of soft meat at one sitting. So a typical day at three weeks was: 6 a.m. 1 cup Water 8 a.m. 1 cup decaf 9 a.m. 1/2 cup greek yogurt with splenda 11:00 a.m. Protein drink noon: 1 cup water 1:45 p.m. 2 oz. turkey meatloaf 2:45 I cup crystal light lemonaide 4:30 p.m. Light cheese stick 5:30 p.m. 1 cup water 6:30 p.m. 2 oz. turkey meatloaf 7:30 p.m. 2 oz turkey meatloaf 10 p.m. 1 cup water Lynda Lynda
  6. My doctor discouraged me from pureeing anything meat, said it can lead to food aversion later in the solid stage. I have to say I haven't been able to handle tuna salad since my surgery, and it was one of the things I pureed first. Honestly, I stuck to liquid protein my first month - shakes or soups. I just started adding "soft" foods like cooked asparagus and mushrooms to my soups. TOFU! I did a lot of soft tofu, lightly pan seared with seasonings. It was delicious! Greek yogurt, cottage cheese+applesauce, and avocado as well.

    Hello Newbe here

This morning for breakfast I actually took EAS carb control protein shake (strawberry cream), 4 strawberries 1/2 banana, 1 cup strawberry Greek yogurt and 4 ice cubes and blended it, I must say it was rather delicious!

    sweet tooth

Well think of it this way... if you have been a good girl and you've stuck to the plan, you can reward yourself. If not, you can also say screw it and still eat that cookie, or you could have extreme will power and reject it altogether. Personally I usually try to eat some greek yogurt or drink a Protein shake. I still sneak in some chocolate everyday. One week I ate frozen custard every night and lost 9 lbs. I don't encourage anyone to try this, it is so tempting to forget the new healthy eating habits.

    15 Day Pre-Op Starts Tomorrow

So my pre-op starts tomorrow. Not sure how much it differs from US type pre-ops. This is my schedule Breakfast 1 glucerna coffee/tea no sugar or milk\ 1 natural fruit juice no sugar Snack Diet Yogurt or Kumis or Diet Ice Cream Aromatica (mint leaves and fruit in hot water) Diet Soda lunch liquid Soup with veggies & beef, chicken, or seafood sugar free Jello dinner Repeat of lunch The one difference I do see is that my diet soda intake is not limited and I can have as much tea or aromatica as necessary. I have to drink at least 7 glasses of Water per day. I am not a big soda drinker, so I can not see over indulging in that. But I see many aromaticas on my 15 day journey. What does your pre-op consist of?
  10. I was sleeved the 11the also! Ya in going to see if I can get my primary doc to rx some liquid Omeprazole. I've been using the Insides of the capsules but it's so gross I can't tolerate well. If was also in the hospital for two days from vomiting. I can't believe I've read that people are tempted to eat this early. I don't even want go drink! I am trying to make sure I get the liquids and I think your right on the yogurt. I'm gonna just stop that since it seems to be making it worse. Thanks for the advice!

New Guy Otb 3 Days Po

My dr had me add powdered milk to everything when I got to the full liquid stage to bump up the protein. 1 scoop in yogurt, pudding, soup, shakes too! As for water try room temp. But if your having discomfort it might be gas… so try walking more (down the hall 2-3x) before and after sipping. I didn't get all 64oz in for a couple of weeks. Way to go, your doing great!
  12. I eat mostly Protein, and I still drink Protein shakes. I like chicken (lots of chicken), cheese, Greek yogurt, Jerky and venison. I also eat the Protein Bars. I don't eat a lot of veggies or fruit because I don't usually have room for them. I'm a year out though, so I can eat pretty much anything. I don't though. I am still avoiding breads and most carbs.

    Am I eating too much?????

OMG! I have been freaking out about this. I'm glad you asked this question. I had surgery September 23rd and am able to eat 5-6 oz at a time. I can eat an entire pudding cup, 5.3 oz of yogurt and can drink about 8 oz of cream of chicken lipton cup of soup. Is that too much? I don't want to screw up already!

2-3 weeks out, beginning soft solids

I was sleeved on the 14th of July. I've been able to eat like cooked salmon, scrambled eggs, boiled chicken, refried beans, string cheese, greek yogurt, meatballs and really soft stuff. I have noticed that my stomach can't tolerate sharp cheddar cheese because anytime I have put that on beans or eggs to melt...i get a pain in my stomach...Also, I need to remember to slow down and take smaller bites because when I don't, I get these painful cramping things in my stomach...its like a few stabbing pains like my stomach letting me know it didnt like it and then it goes away a minute or two after. I am not drinking nearly enough liquids as I should and not getting enough protein in. I've been at a stall for a week and ahalf. I need to be better about my liquids and protein and walk more.

I am 5 months out, and my FAVORITE food is "boiled eggs", chicken... cheese and yogurt... soft foods, because other foods still bother me.. I tried to eat grapes the other day and OH my... nope after one I could tell that was not going to work... take it slow.... drink your Protein... and try to eat what you can. Best of luck to you ♥

    Meals

I think it depends on what stage of food you are on. In the beginning, jello and yogurt would constitute a meal for me. Now, jello is more like a snack for me. Same goes for popsicles. I can still have a yogurt as a meal for breakfast but I prefer something like cereal or scrambled egg whites.
  19. You might be just a bit too tight, so you're compensating by eating easy to eat foods during the day, which leave you famished by dinner and snaking in between meals. Just a slight unfill of .2cc might make the difference, but then you're also going to have to work on eating more solid foods and fighting the urge to snack that you've re-established. If feel like you have the right level of fill, and the tight daytime restriction is normal for you, it's going to be important for you to find foods that stick with you during the day, but aren't hard on the band. One soft food that works for me is Greek yogurt with all bran Cereal mixed into it. Adding the cereal makes a world of difference on the level of satiety I get from that simple snack/meal. (I found myself overdoing the Snacks..I mostly ate healthy snacks, but the calories were adding up..when I wasn't quite at the right fill level. I had to make a point of turning off my head hunger and let the band do it's "magic". Once I was eating properly and at the right level of restriction, it wasn't hard to get back into the groove of three 1/2 cup meals/day + one healthy snack.) Also, if you have several hours between lunch and dinner, a healthy Protein heavy snack might be in order at that time, only if a snack is included in your plan, since some doctors recommend larger meals and no snacks.
  20. So I'm on day 3 post op. I was starving the first day of surgery (but they would only give me sugar free pudding that was yuck). The day after surgery I got them to give me carnation instant breakfast, some yogurt, crystal light, and pudding which was much better, but I was very weak -- they didn't give me any protein supplements. I left the hospital at 4 PM the day after and went home and had some protein. I haven't been hungry since. It takes forever for me to finish eating anything. I'm guessing that is normal?

    Chia seeds

I put a teaspoon in my Greek yogurt for texture. Let it sit a few minutes and they swell there. I know some mix them in smoothies and shakes as well. I just use a small amount though.

    Grocery Stores

I avoid added sugars, not all sugars. I just try to keep the sugar content low. I especially avoid high fructose corn syrup. For instance, when looking at a Greek yogurt I aim for a Protein content greater than 10 grams and sugar content of less than 10 grams.

    Muscle Milk And Nausea

It is funny that you mention banana as making you sick. I was given strawberry banana jello in the hospital as well as strawberry banana yogurt. All i could taste was a sickening sweet banana taste. Disgusting... I have heard taste can change dramatically
  24. It's weird because of can eat non fat yogurt but can't drink any kind of milk at all.
  25. Duodenal Switch, 3 Months Post Op. Never hungry. Need to get in 90 grams of protein. Can't seem to do it. After a few bits, feel nauseous and don't want to eat anymore. Tried different protein shakes, also hard to get down. My best friends are the so called "slippery" foods, yogurt, yogurt, yogurt and cottage cheese. Help! How can I get solid protein down?
