    Body image and sex

So this may be tmi but my doctor pointed something out to me the other day and I wondered if anyone else had this issue. Even though I'm not anywhere close to goal I have a bunch of hanging skin since I've lost 200 lbs. I just turned 30 and just started dating again. I don't feel comfortable being naked with someone because I feel disgusting. My doctor pointed out I was fine and didn't care about how my body looked when I was much heavier. It really made me stop and think. I don't know why I was more okay being naked when I was heavier than I do now. The only thing I can think of is that I didn't care at all what I looked like before and now I do. I wear make up and I dress nice now. I don't know how to become comfortable enough with my new body and hanging skin to be intimate with someone. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I Wish Someone Had Told Me....

We are all different, but I had very little pain after my surgery. About three hours after I got to my room I woke up in pain... it was an overall ache type pain. My nurse said it was probably from the gas, so I got up and as soon as the gas shifted a bit I felt much better. The day after surgery I walked a mile so it couldn't have been that bad. By about day 7 I really felt some pain in my left side from the liver retraction, but it was more annoying than anything because it was the only thing still bothering. THEN, disaster struck, apparently when they intubated me, anesthesia cracked one of teeth. It got infected and festered for a week before hitting the nerve in my jaw. THAT pain was horrible! It was WAY worse than the surgery and I really broke into those pain meds! I waited four days for a root canal and they were the worst four days of my life.... luckily I was stoned out of my mind on percoset and don't really remember them Now I'm 17 days out and I still have some pain in my left side when I do silly things like bend over repeatedly to throw a ball for my dog, but now the worst part is the scabs from my incisions getting caught on my clothing (sorry if thats TMI), but those little suckers hurt when they get caught. But, seriously, if thats my biggest complaint... I'll take it!

:omg: hi all, i just got to my room a little over an hour or so ago. :omg: I AM NOW OFFICIALLY BANDED! i spent 4.5 hours in the OR, with some issues, but i'm okay! I love this hospital, lol. I get a flatscreen tv on a swing pole type of thing on the screen there are so many options. internet, tv, music,movies...and so on lol. i'm typing this laying flat down LoL so now about the surgery, lol. i feel sore mostly on the right side. i even did peepee pretty much right away, i know this might be TMI BUT I WANTED TO SHARE< LOL> l've had urine retention issues in th past, so we all were worried, for no reason lol. l've spent too much time thinking about it. okay, so i've been pretty much nausiated all of day. l've had several issues with bradycardia all moning and evening. I am very tired. i've snoozed several times already. the aid gave me broth and Jello. l tried both, it's ok. and the aide, well, she forgot to give me the sf jello! so it was nasty. l know these will all pass by ,lol, along with the gas that i may recieve by the morning. shortly you all take care, l've been giving a second shot at life, like most of you all have. so i hope to go above and beyond. also, i did my final pre surgery weighin i was at 223, with no pre op diet? i'll be more alert later, it took mealmost 2 hrs to write lol thanks for your well wishes
  4. Thanks Dave. I had looked it up online and found out about costco. I had been planning to go there to get my dogs eye meds anyways so I went today. I probably will try one tonight because I am very low on calories today. The thing about the carbs is like 29g of them comes from my fiber one bar that I have daily. (TMI warning) I have had constipation issues for many years and I've found they help a little, so I don't want to give that up, but I will cut out the other things. We'll see how this test goes. I may drink half the shake before my workout and 1/2 after.

I am home from the hospital and doing well! I had a bit of difficulty with the pain meds. I don't do well on narcotics so I stopped taking them that night! I am only on liquid tylenol.. there is a really good one that is rapid release and it tastes like cherry.. not bad at all. Right now I feel like I have a really bad pulled muscle in my tummy. I am mobile.. able to shower, etc. I just made some jello *grin*.. One thing I have alot of is gas! Boy am I glad I live alone. Sorry if TMI.. lol How are the other banders from July 5th? Hugz, DonnaMarie

There there Paulax.. I feel your pain.. lol No personal trainer here..(good for you!) there is the hug and holding.. I was supposed to go to the gym today but for some reason, could not get up! I was so tired this morning.. UGH.. but DEFINATELY tomorrow morning before work. I will post on here to prove it. LOL (Heck you might think I am lying.. but I hope not!) I am still very restricted and having a hard time getting protein down. I think I have to work on my chewing.. I had some lowfat turkey chili w/red beans for dinner and BAM came right back up.. sorry if TMI.. Hope everyone is doing well! Regards, ~Donnamarie~
  7. Ok, I really hate to go here, so read no further if you didn't have to go here the night before your surgery. My dr. requires you to have a "fleet enema" the night before surgery. I've had 5 or 6 surgeries under general anesthesia before and this has never been required. I think it is a personal preference of my doctor?? Anyway, I'm reading the box and it looks like this is a two person event, LOL?! It has you "assuming position" before using it and the box speaks in context pointing out what the person receiving treatment should be doing, as if you'll need assistance when you're in this position? Anyone, did you do this yourself? Did it work the first time (God forbid it takes twice)? Was it really horrible? This will be the worst part of the 24 hours leading up to and after... Thanks!

I'm so glad you updated, Claire! You too, Zom. I can never remember exactly what your user name is so I'm calling you Zom. I'm glad everyone is doing so well. I'm relieved. I was more worried for you all than I realized. I am doing really well. I'm only consuming around 200-300 calories a day. I sip fluids continuously. I've struggled with not being able to eat dinner with my family. Not because I felt hungry but because I wanted the food. I have lost 8 pounds as of today. I feel like it could be more but I'm a little constipated. TMI but the truth.
  9. Hi to you all, Hope jeni and Ken that your surgeries go as well as mine has so far. I am glad Jen that Pam has her date now too, as you say she will be a professional by then via you. Zom , Sally and Nikki i am glad that you are doing well too.i am sure that we will have difficult days in the coming weeks months and years but i have to say that my surgery has been so much better than expected. I had no staples, catherter or drain and i was glad to get rid of my appendages. Drip down last night so free at last, just mild discmfort around the holes but i even managed to sleep a little on my side on night 2 which i was not expecting. I had a quite acute lower abdominal spasm earlier in the night which felt like i needed to have diarrhoea, but nothing happened but am parping which a good sign. Dull abdo ache so i think i am starting to feel constipated. TMI i know but we need to share these things. When i get home later today i will start to take Benefiber which was advised by my variatric nurse. You just add it to any Fluid and it is colourless and apparently tasteless and it keeps you regular and sorts out constipation. I got it on Amazon before i came in, something you might want to consider. Erin i can see what you mean about new job and new start. They are only expecting you to eat what you do now, not what you did before. It sounds like you are really enjoying it too which is great. At the time it felt so brave to go back to work so soon but it clearly worked for you. I am sure that you ate missing eating with your family but hopefully the variety you can eat will increase soon and you will feel more able to. Kim you sound like you ate doing great too. Nnegrete, i do hope you feel more positive soon, strange about the avocado fetish, i suppose we will all have them. I think that is why i was struggling before the op, it felt like a permanent bereavement of things i couldn't do again. I was so sad when we were in Key West for a few days at the beginning of the year because every day felt like that. I am hoping that was my way of preparing myself and that those feelings will not be as strong afterwards. Stay strong, you HAVE made the right decision and things will feel better, in time you might even manage those avocados, and you are losing weight! We are all there with you, just hang on in there. Take care and be careful out there, we are flooding big time over here, worst floods for decades and you are in the middle of terrible snow storms. Claire
  10. I think I dumped! I ate a protein bar that had sugar alcohol in it. I've had other things with a little sugar alcohol before and it makes me nauseous. And I've had this particular protein bar before, but today it took me over the edge. As soon as I ate it, I felt so sick (nauseous) and then I started to just feel icky. I had to put my head down on my desk at work a few times. After about an hour, I decided to go home early and boy am I glad I did. As soon as I started to get up and get ready to leave, I realized I was going to have a bad potty experience. Mad it home thankfully, and ran to the bathroom for an explosion! Sorry TMI. I feel fine now, but wow, that was crazy! So was that truly dumping? I think it was, but not having it happen before, I don't truly know!
  11. I drink the Atkins protein shakes in the morning. It's just such an easy breakfast before school and work. But recently, after I drink one, I have diarrhea. I mean like cold sweats and everything. I didn't drink one for about 3 days. I tried again this morning. Same thing. What in the world could be causing this?

    OCTOBER 2014

Question. Yesterday I was constipated TMI, that's fixed but today I have been having the worst pain in my pouch feels like someone is trying to turn it inside out or something. Tried to eat one thing today and was ok but also nauseous and burping a lot. What's the deal? Tomorrow is my first day back at work and it's a 12hr shift and I'm the only pharmacist there. This is the worst I've felt since surgery...any thoughts??? Help?

    Week 1 Help!

Ist week, some pain, some gas in shoulders, any liquid or non solid. Mostly Protein shakes and Crystal lite for me. I also drank some clear broths and after the first week just blended up chicken noodle soups. Focus on protein. My doc has me drink 2 oz of protein at the top of every hour and other sugar free liquids the rest of the hour. That kept me full. Try to drink something at least every 15 minutes. Walk, walk, walk and if you have back or shoulder pain try windmilling your arms as you walk. Walk somewhere every hour even if it is only to refill your liquids. May be TMI but don't expect a lot of BMs. My doc would not even consider a laxative until after 5 days. Follow the advice given by your doc and try to relax. Nervous makes you hungrier! Good luck and keep us posted on your journey!
  18. Sorry Lap, but I beat you! I gained 4.6lbs! I do not want to own it, I hate it, It sucks, I hate my scale, I'm going to the Goodwill and dropping it off this afternoon! okay, I am calm now. I have no idea how that happened! Could be water weight or the fact that I haven't been 'regular' in about a week. (TMI - I know!) (I'll be hiding behind this couch until next Saturday weigh in and I better lose the 4.6 plus another 4 lbs or I'll never make my goal!)

How Are You One Week Post-Opers

Tomorrow I will be a full week post-op. As a wound care nurse, I was overly pleased that my wounds are pretty much totally healed - yay! Still a little soreness at the lap keyhole where my penrose drain was, but nothing too bad. In many ways, my recovery has gone beautifully. I was able to lean over and pick things off the floor at 4 days post op, can walk pretty well (though I'm slow), drove home 5 hours on 3rd post-op day. On the other hand....my sleeve is a tempermental tyrant (we call him Cthulu Jr.). He won't tolerate plain Water in any form - tepid, warm, cold - I get terrible cramping and bubbles, often resulting in that gut-wrenching kind of gas. My sense of smell has become hypersensitive - on the drive home, my husband opened a bag of Doritos in the car and it felt like my stomach was going to come up through my nose. It's been the only time I had really terrible nausea. My doc has me on clears until 10 days post op, and I've yet to make my Fluid goal of 60 oz a day yet - I'm lucky to hit 30oz. Even watered down, anything with sugar gives me terrible cramping diarrhea - apple juice, white grape juice, clear VitaminWater. I have attempted liquid Protein twice (once with Isopuke, once with Nectar), both times with extreme discomfort. I had 3 sips over 30 minutes, and then it sat in my abdomen like a lead weight for nearly 2 hours. Chest felt tight and I generally felt unwell. WTF? This has been such a change for me. In the past, I was the master of my stomach....even if it said "I'm full!", I would just shove more food into it! Now, I am at the mercy of this tiny abdominal tyrant who gurgles and churns constantly. It's like when my daughter was an infant, before I figured out what her different cries meant and they all sounded the same....is it hungry? Is it full? is it angry?? I can't tell! The worst is those gurgles that I have learned to identify as "Oh my God, find a bathroom...high-speed liquids coming through!". Ugh! It starts bubbling at my low abdomen and progresses in one long, writhing motion up to my esophagus...and I've got about 90 seconds to find a toilet. Sorry, probably TMI. I thought I was prepared for post-op - heck, I've taught bariatric classes! But I feel like a n00b. ~Asche, The Crazy Cat Lady

    August Chat

I've been working like a dog in my DD's room this afternoon, and I'm on my "break" right now...we went to IKEA and got her a futon for her room! We're moving the twin bed that's in there now to my DH's room, and that bed is goin' OUT. (oh yeah, we have our own rooms for sleeping due to snoring...still lovebirds, though...sorry, TMI) SOOOOO, as you know, when you start one of those projects, it leads to others....and I've cleaned out her closet, her dresser, under her bed, and so on. It feels good to get it out of there! I lost 1 lb. last week, although two days ago it was 2 lbs, so WTF? It's mysterious, sometimes, huh? Yes, I did have some ice cream, and I agree with ya'll. When I try to deny myself a particular food, it makes me want it soooooo much! The Lent thing worked fine, but then I was doing it for a more spiritual reason, I guess. My personal goal, beginning 8/8/06: (don't laugh!) 15 minutes of physical activity that isn't regular stuff. On purpose exercise of some kind. Every day. Eileen, are you keeping a list? Are we just reporting in each day how we did? Darcy, I'm craving a peppermint mocha sooo bad. The nearest Starbucks is 15 miles away, so tough for me. Hope you enjoyed your sis. I'm gonna go read some posts, then go back into the DD's room and take advantage of her absence to straighten out her little world! LOL! Hugs, Cindy

    September 2009 Band Date

OK so at my post-op appt the doctor said I could move on to regular foods and I have been doing good, until tonight. I was eating some chicken that I had boiled so it was nice and tender, I also had bell pepper and onions in it. Well i guess I was not eating slow enough but I had a pepper and it got stuck and let me tell you that is the worst feeling. TMI but they are not lying about the foam that comes back up. It was nasty so after about 5-10 minutes it finally passed and I was able to finish my meal. Let's just say I really focused on chewing and eating more slowly. Moral of the story, we may not have restriction but things will still get stuck, so chew, chew, chew and eat slowly. Take care guys and remember me at your next meal so you will head my warning. Bye guys. Til tomorrow.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Im trying to watch my liquids and get enough. I read a post somewhere on here that a woman got dehydrated and had to go back in the hospital, I am trying to make sure I get at least 40oz of liquid in a day, water, protein shake whatever. As for the #2 question, yeah, I think we all suffer from that. Three days later I was able to, but then nothing since. I know that your organs sort of go to sleep after anethesia and the bowel is the last one to wake back up. Oh, TMI.....:faint:
  24. Hello everyone! Well...I'm officially banded. I had my surgery at 9 Friday morning and stayed in the hospital one night. I was not too excited about that, but now I'm really glad that I did. You know...you read everyone's stories and experiences and you feel somewhat prepared, but it's a whole different thing when it is happening to you. The worst part of everything has been the nausea. Saturday after I got home I felt pretty damn good. Even walked around the block in my neighborhood to help dissipate the CO2, etc. Yesterday (Sunday) was much, much rougher. First of all, I was glued to the toilet all day. People talk about constipation, but I had the complete opposite problem. It would not stop. Sorry for the TMI. As the day progressed, I kept feeling more and more nauseous. Around 8 last night I took another slow walk around the block. It didn't help. Around 9:15, I laid down in bed and immediately began feeling like I was about to throw up which terrified me. My husband helped me sit up very quickly, but by then it was too late. He handed me a cup and I began throwing up foamy Water. Less than a 1/3 of a cup total. Of course as soon as I could I contacted my doctor and my doctor's nurse. Both assured me that my band was still secure. That it is repetitive vomiting over time that is the enemy. I felt somewhat reassured, but still cannot shake the feeling that I've messed something up. What is strange though, is that after I vomited, I immediately felt better and haven't had any major nausea since. I was able to sleep through the night with no problems. I can even sleep on my side comfortably which I didn't expect to do this soon. While my doctor was talking to me, he asked me if I had been forcing fluids. He said to not be too worried if you cannot get in the 48 - 60 ounces that the literature recommends. I wish someone had told me this sooner. Yesterday I had 8 ounces of chicken broth, 8 ounces of diet cranberry juice, and probably 12 ounces of water. And getting all that in was a struggle. I didn't want any of it. He also told me not to be too concerned with dehydration because for every pound of fat the body breaks down, it produces a quart of water. Right now I'm using my urine color as a guide. It is still very, very light yellow although I am not going very often. I have to say...last night during all of this, I was experiencing a big "what the hell have I done to myself" moment. Is this normal? Did any of you feel this way at any point? Did any of you experience the nausea and retching that soon after surgery? Any advice is welcome. Thanks.
