I start to feel that feeling too, a little below my chest. I have learned to stop eating when that happens, bc I don't feel "full" yet, but I know from experience now that if I keep eating, I will be miserably full for the next 30-60 minutes (I haven't thrown up since my surgery, but I've had extreme discomfort from eating too much, and I think I've learned from that.) I think you're right though, feeling 'full' now is not going to feel the same as it did before the surgery. Sent from my LM-V405 using BariatricPal mobile app

Oh and I forgot to add... pretty sure this is why I’m struggling so hard to meet protein goals. Most days it’s a success if I hit 40gm protein bc I don’t have the “patience” to take what seems like forever to eat

DO NOT DO IT
ShantelleElaine replied to ShantelleElaine's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Had lap band surgery, 3 days later ended up with blood clots in my legs and both lungs which normally kills you... well I lived... after 4 months finally got the clots to dissolve after multi med changes blood thinners etc... lost 130 pounds with no fills was loving it.. til December 2014 couldn't swallow food water nothing, for 29 days total couldn't swallow anything severe dehydration malnutrition had to be fed by tubes and IVs.. multiple swallowing tests later found out the band caused esophageal dysmotility which is a common complication. Which is basically where the band won't allow any food of fluid to go down your esophagus. Had to have the band removed. Blood thinners for life for the blood clot risk. Still can't swallow like a normal person. Never be the same. Brain damage and nerve damage from lack of fluid, Lots of other crap. Just a nightmare. -

Hi Juba! I didn't even THINK about the tax receipts!!!! Great ! Where in Canada? I'm in BC do you mind me asking which surgeon you used? Thanks so much Deanna -
I was banded the week before you... August 22. I have also had three fills and will be going back on Monday, 1/13. I'm not even sure as to my weight loss bc I only weigh at the doctor's office (So I guess I'll know on Monday). It's great that you're exercising on a regular basis, and it's great that you already lost 30 pounds (that's between 1 1/2 and 2 pounds a week). Personally, I think you're making great progress. I'm happy with my progress in how I feel and in how I look. This is a lifestyle and a marathon.... Not a gimmick and a sprint..... I'm so glad to finally post with someone who was banded around the same time as me!

Is anyone getting surgery without having insurance?
cinchgirl50 replied to cuchas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a self pay in Texas because my insurance does not cover any WLS. My surgeon is Dr. John Mason in Bryan, Texas. Even with selfpay there were tests that I had to clear in order for Dr. Mason to agree to my surgery. They were EKG, chest xray, blood work and psych evaluation. Dr. Mason works out of St. Joseph's Hospital and they do offer a "selfpay" discount. When all said and done with tests, surgery and hospital costs I will be out of pocket approximately $12,000.00. I started this journey back in January and will be having surgery on May 22, which is my choice. Surgery could have been a lot sooner if it would have been more convenient for me to done so. If anyone in this area is looking for a great surgeon, I highly reccomend Dr. Mason. On me personally he has performed 2 breast biopsies, Double mastectomy (I am a 4 year BC survivor, woohoo!) and gallbladder removal. All of which were without incident and I breezed through with flying colors and believe that it was because of his excellent surgical skills and passion for his patients. -
I was banded Feb 16 and didn't even weigh myself unless I had a doctor's appointment. My first follow up was in late March. I had only lost 15 lbs at that point and knew it bc I couldn't eat as much as I did pre-band but could eat whatever I wanted and more than anyone that would/should be dieting. I wanted to let the band do the work. I don't eat much junk food anyway but I really wanted to let the band do it. It wasn't until the first of May that I got an aggressive fill and it started to work where I could feel restriction. I lost another 10 lbs in less than two weeks and since then it's been a battle and struggle but definitley coming off better. I am at about 50 lbs lost now and trust me I wish it was more. I am a slow loser compared to others. My weight also can fluctuate 5 lbs up and down depending upon the time of day that I weigh myself. The morning it's 216 and in the evening with work clothes and shoes it can be 220. Crazy I know but my clothes are finally getting too big. I am so freaking fat and need to lose at least 100 lbs total that people can hardly notice hopefully that means they haven't noticed how much I had gained. NOT! Also getting to this point has not been easy...fills...unfills...even the dreaded ER visit bc I was throwing up hourly but it was all saliva. Awful. It has been a battle and it's a tool. I used to think about doing this as the easy way out. It is so not the easy way out. Try to stick to healthy food choices and relax. It'll kick in and then you will have to work with it. I kept searching this site for clues, answers and support. I am addicted to it and appreciate all I have read about. I don't have a support group - this is it. I hope this helps you too.

:confused:Hi Everyone- I went to a seminar with Dr. Schmitt in January and I was so motivated and ready to go I would have had the surgery that night if they would have let me. I don't know what has happened to me now... I read about problems on this website and all I do now is think about everything that could go wrong. I cancelled my appointment with Dr. Schmitt and I haven't rescheduled; I also quit going to my montly GP monitoring visits (I'm BC/BS). I know I have to have help or I am going to die from my fat. Did any of you have a time like this and then get yourself back on track? I'm scared to death I'm going to die on the operating table or have breathing trouble from being knocked out or have band slippage and have to go back to surgery. Also, did I understand correctly that BC/BS will not pay for any corrective surgeries associated with banding after the first placement one? Congrats to all of you that are doing so well; I'm so happy for you! Keep the good info coming.. some of us need really need to hear about your positive experiences!

How soon before you went back to work after surgery?
TulipStar replied to crazy4jags's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different and I had heard stories about people going back in to work the next day, well let me tell you, that was not the case with me! I am only 29, and I have a generally high tolerance to pain (I have had surgery before and refused morphine & the pain killers and only took tylenol). So I was quite surprised when this surgery had me down for so long. (in my mind, I thought I would be back to yoga, running and step classes on day 3, but was surprised when I still couldn't get out of bed by myself by day 4). I think that by day 6 I felt that I would be able to go back to work. I went back to work on day 7, but it was still hard for me, so I worked from home most of that first week back. The most pain I had was around the port area bc they stitch it to the muscle, so I had to be really careful about getting up from sitting and sitting. I couldn't sleep in my own bed until about day 6 (slept in a recliner). Good luck!! -
Is anyone else having blood sugar issues since your sleeve?
gomekast replied to kitch101's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a meter and i regularly run in the 60's..despite having the carbs like moon says to do. Mine just doesnt stay up much higher over any given period of time. But, i was also diagnosed with the hypoglycemia a good 15-20 years ago. I try to up my sodium as much as i can..and i always carry Snacks on me. I idealy need to eat every 2 hours to feel my best. One of the nuts on my grouo doesnt like this but too bad. Ive lost 89 pounds in 5 months so i would say im doing good. Nearly all of my snacks between the larger meals are light string cheese and some nuts. That picks me up fast and levels me off so my bs levels arent going below 60. If im traveling and cant have cheese i will toss in a couple Quest Protein bars. They have fat, fiber and lots of protein..those 3 are exactly what i need to stay up on my feet all day. Also, another thing i was told by a different nut was that with the hypoglycemia, sugars will dip the most mid morning and mid afternoon. So pay attention to eating and the times. If i dont eat every 2 hours i feel all around lousy. By 10am and 3pm i feel like i could eat the couch, even tho i may have just had something 1.5 hours ago. Its all about figuring out what your body needs and at exactly what times. I can test my bsl and the most common number i get is always 62. Mine just likes to hover there most of the time. -
How are you feeling as date approaches?
candy8360 replied to Jonesy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I started out drinking slimfast. The first night I dreamed about ham, steak and fried chicken. The next day I could swear I smelled meat cooking as I walked across the parking lot. Then I went home and had a can of cream of potato Soup. After all the cold liquids, something hot was very tasty. Just choose things you like, I made homemade oyster stew one night and fed the oysters to my dog. It was very good to me. I had to do liquids two weeks before surgery, and then they postponed me a week so I've had another week now. It's not as bad as you think. just think of the goal ahead, and it will be worth it. I know I'm SO ready for tomorrow! -

Help deciding btw LB and gastric sleeve
SusanSM posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello! I had LB and was very successful with it for years. Although, I had to get it opened in the spring and fall for a couple months each due to allergies/serious post nasal drip causing issues. I was very sick last year (unrelated) and ended up with a hernia etc. Long story short, LB was removed (not sure it should have been). Due to all my issues, I am not sure I want the LB again bc I am frankly sick of being used and a pin cushion (again was not related to LB but was bad 8 months) and just hyper sensitive. Thus, I looked into as cleared to have GS. I am so confused and frustrated. One side says LB is better bc can always be adjusted and that GS will lead to reflux and a whole slew of issues. Also argues that GS use in US has not been that long and it shows a high percentage that pouch will be stretched and then not effective. The other side says LB not as effective and shows high percentage of eventual slippage/failure (plus constant fills/reduction issues as noted above). Further says that reflux can be addressed, likely not long term and not lead to other issues (Barrett's disease). I do not know what to do. Any thoughts? Anyone out there who went from LB to LB or LB to GS? Thanks. Any feedback greatly appreciated. -
Had final nutrition appt yesterday & met with doctor. Submitting to insurance; anyone know approx time length for BCBS Fed to approve? Doc says I should be able to have surgery in July!!🤗

@ShawnGS check this thread out for your BCBS Fed questions. -
I've heard of this too. My surgeon just required me to follow a low fat diet the week before surgery to shrink the liver in order to get better access to the stomach. To be perfectly honest I didn't follow the low fat diet as I went into 'Last Supper' mode the week before my surgery and ate everything I knew I was going to miss. I am on liquids for 4 weeks after surgery though, which is tough, fed up of Slim Fast and Soup already. Can't wait til the mushy stage in 3 weeks time when I can have shepherd's pie. mmmmmmmmmmmm:p

Not losing like we should

I have the Aria scale, yes. Love it! Honestly I'd be so damn out of my mind this BS gain/lose rollercoaster if I wasn't continually seeing that body fat number drop. -
I scheduled a gyn. Appointment shortly after my surgery for this reason. But I do not want an IUD. I don’t like the idea of having that in my uterus and I have heard too many horror stories from friends/families. I hope to continue with the good ole pill form of bc.

Well- definitely NOT covered
Djmohr replied to LisaMergs's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
@@LisaMergs I am right there with you and let me tell you, when that weight comes off and you realize that all that loose skin is pulling on your body, plastics is a must. At least for me it is. I started with a 5950.00 Brachioplasty and I just took a 19 week project to cover the cost of my Abdominalplasty and breast lift with augmentation. That surgery is going to cost around 18K total..... I started my new project yesterday and I swear as every hour goes by I have a secret smile on my face knowing that I just paid for part of my surgery. I think it stinks that insurance does not cover any of it. For Peres sake, obesity is a metabolic disease. And guess what, it is a disease that can and will end your life early. Why then is reconstruction not covered? I just simply don't agree with that. As I sit here all trussed up in my spanx that hold my tummy in....... It is BS and it needs to change. Just my two cents...... -

Final Answer On Water?
SoonToBeThinKAT replied to earth2terra's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my NUT that it can push the food you have eaten down so it allows you to eat more bc you don't feel the fullness like you would just by eating. But I have heard a few different reasons. -
Hello everyone, My name is Heather Conrad and I live in Nashville TN. I am 43 years old and have battled weight for most of my life. However, since my back went bad, my weight has completely gone out of control. I am only 5'1 and currently weigh 213ish. I know that number does not seem super big but, on a tiny frame such as mine, it feels terrible. I have tried every diet known to man and I only end up yo yoing. I had back surgery one year ago and since packed it on. I used to be really active and led such a healthy lifestyle and I feel this surgery is my chance to have that back again. I am currently on many pain medications, and hypertension medication. My goal is to lose this weight and get off all meds. I just wanted to share a little about myself and I would appreciate any support I can get. Oh yeah, my first appt., is this Th. I am going through Vanderbilt. Does anyone have experience there. I have federal BC/BS, and they require a 3 month supervised weight loss which I think is ridiculous. I have my last two years of weight loss tries documented but, whatever it takes. At least it is not 6 mos. to a year like I have read on some other insurances. I am interested in the VSG. Any comments are welcome and appreciated. Thanks Heather
