  1. For me, I just didn't want it. I had no desire to drink in the hospital. I had to as part of my discharge requirements. Now, if I drink too much at a time, I feel a lot if pressure that is uncomfortable. 64oz is a lot of fluid to take in when you're stomach is so small and still swollen. Some people say the fuild goes right through their stomach. It doesn't for me. I can comfortably do 1.5 oz of fluid every 10-15 minutes. I am literally drinking my entire waking hours.
  2. My hand is up. I’m 5’3” & weighed 200lbs when I started. I lost to my goal by 6 months (132lbs - so loss of 68lbs). I kept losing very slowly for another 10 or so months until I reached 108lbs - a total loss of 94lbs. I’ve been pretty much stable since then aside from little fluctuations & I’ll be 4 years out on the weekend. There is no right or wrong rate of your weight loss. There are averages but like all averages (statistics) some will lose more than the average others less. And some will lose at a faster rate & others will lose at a slower rate. Averages only give you an idea of what might happen not what will happen. And all of this is okay. Remember it’s not a race. There are some things you can pretty much rely on. If you weigh more at the beginning you tend to lose larger amounts at first (like you see on My 600lb Life). Your weight loss is always more in the beginning. Everyone’s rate of loss slows. If you follow your plan, you will lose at the rate that is right & best for you. Nothing wrong with 21lbs in 6 weeks. (I’d lost about 22lbs at 6 weeks.) That’s about 3lbs a week. Can’t complain about that. The only time you should be concerned is if your surgeon or team is. Celebrate every pound you lose.

Just checking in a week post-op VSG. I’m doing really well, meeting protein and water goals. I can take about 3 swallows of water at a time, which works out to about 3 oz. Then I gotta allow 10 min or so before I put anything else down the chute. At first I couldn’t even get 3 oz of my protein shakes down at a time, but now I’m getting half shakes down 4 times a day. I also had some Greek yogurt tonight. I absolutely hated Greek yogurt before surgery, but was so good and felt good in my stomach too. I also now like unsweetened tea and I used to be 100% sweet tea girl. It’s absolutely crazy how your body changes. Good luck to everyone with surgeries coming up this week. Thoughts and prayers are with you all. The pain doesn’t last forever, and things will get better quickly. Soon, we’ll all be looking back and celebrating our success and seeing these moments of struggle as just stumbling blocks on our journey! Oh, and 22 pounds down from start of pre-op as of this morning!! 🎉🎉 Much love to all! 💕
  4. I started at 198 and am 5’3. Lost 10 lbs pre surgery and am at 169 now. Surgery was March 20th

    March 23 buddies yet?

I got my sleeve done exactly two months ago, with a two week pre-op diet. I've lost 40 pounds, but it feels like it should be more. The last few weeks I've been fighting a stall where I'm not seeing much of a change on the scale. My energy is high, I tolerate almost all foods, and I get 8-10 cups of water a day. Lately I've been going over my protein goals, so I'm trying to get more fruits and veggies in to keep my calories lower. I walk 5 days a week for 30 minutes, resistance train 2 days a week, and I've been trying to get extra exercise through stretching or swimming on the weekend. I'm concerned I'm not strength training well enough because I'm never really sore. 😔 But I keep telling myself any movement that gets my heart rate up is good movement. I'm trying not to obsess over the scale (I weigh once a week). I've been getting a lot of positive comments from people I know that they can see a difference. I just can't see it myself. 💔

    11 days from gastric bypass

Yeah, the staging guidelines are essentially arbitrary. My "patient's bible" says 10 days of full liquids, but the physician's assistant told me to advance to purees after my one-week appointment.

    11 days from gastric bypass

As far as your protein, try adding unflavored protein to broth, water, and other drinks. I have protein in everything I consume right now (surgery May 1). It doesn't have to be a whole scoop, maybe a half. It definitely helps getting your requirements in. As for the other question, I'm not sure, and hopefully, someone else has the answer. For me, I sip about an oz every 10 minutes. I have noticed that if I drink too much, too fast, my left side hurts.
  11. I had surgery April 27th (9 days ago) I am drinking 64 ozs of fluids a day and now up to 1 cup of broth once a day. I am struggling to reach my protein intake though. My question is should I be feeling full or anything when I drink water or the broth? I don't have any feelings of being full at all almost like my stomach is the same. I can drink a 10 Oz bottle of water in 20 mins and take normal drinks not sips. I am still in excruciating pain on my left side when I move sit up or walk. It feels like I'm being stabbed and someone is ripping through my stomach on that side is that normal?

  14. I don't have a monumental update, but any progress is good progress in our world. 😉 I'm going on 6 weeks out from bypass & hernia repair. Ecstatic I can finally sleep on my side again! Lol. I'm down 19 lbs from day of surgery and 29 altogether from first consultation in January. I'm happy with the progress so far. I still want to lose 45 lbs, so we will see how the journey goes. I'm so anxious to get to regular foods stage, but I also understand the soft stage is one of the easiest food stages regarding choices. Just getting a little bored with it, but old favorites like blue cheese and feta cheese are rocking my world right now. 🤣 Kudos to all of you on here getting the job done and then some!

    Stall

I had gastric bypass 4/19 and hit my first stall. I know this happens and was prepared by my medical team to expect it but I’m still worried. My personal experience has been SO easy, I’m almost worried this is the other shoe to drop, so to speak, and 20lbs is all I’ll lose after surgery. Thoughts?

Hair Loss (Tips & Advice please)

Hi there, hair loss can be really scary, especially when you’re already in a fragile state after surgery. Before surgery, I talked to my hairstylist and doctor to understand what was coming and how to deal with it. Here are some of the tips they gave me: 1. Get all of your protein 2. Take your multivitamins religiously 3. Keep your scalp clean and healthy 4. Don’t use harsh shampoos. Use fragrance free, low lather, low chemical shampoos 5. Wear your hair loose. Avoid tight pony tails or braids etc 6. Keep your hair out of the sun to avoid UV damage 7. Use a wide tooth comb to brush your hair, and be gentle. Use natural bristles if using a brush 8. Reduce your overall stress (meditation, relaxation techniques, etc can help). Stress itself is one of the biggest contributors 9. if your hair seems brittle, try coconut oil or olive oil. Just be careful not to over wash afterward (oily hair can perturb some) 10. accelerate new growth with vitamins, biotin, etc. they won’t prevent loss but they can help regrowth I hope some of this was helpful. Good luck to you and remember it’s only temporary! 🍀☺️
  19. The first week is tough. I was able to get up and walk to the restroom and around the house a little before sitting back down again. By week 2, I could be up and walking for 10-15. Give yourself the downtime you need right now and don’t stress too much. You’ll be up again in no time so long as you don’t go beyond the limits your body is telling you to stay at good luck!
  20. I had my sleeve surgery done late Wednesday and still feeling a lot of pain despite being on opioids. When can I expect the pain to go away? I gained about 5lbs of water weight since surgery. Hoping the swelling will go down. At what day could you comfortable do a 10-15 walk? Walking still seems really painful now

    August surgery buddies!

Just checking in … so far I’m a total of 122 lbs down - 65 of that was after surgery. I was hoping to be further along by now but I’m happy that I seem to still be loosing. I’m not overly strict with my eating but I am still only able to eat limited amounts at one time. My hope is that I will loose 100 pounds post surgery by my anniversary - but I’m not going to stress about it. I’ll just keep working in that direction. I broke my overall final “goal” out in to 10 steps - and I’m almost at 49.55% of my goal. It’s nice to see that progress.
