Eating too fast done this to me. I was sleeved 1/30.

Sleeve completed 7/6 & they are ready to send me back to work 7/18
Redo2017 replied to lilbigprsn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have the time, take it. Life is too short to work all the time! You never know how fast you will recover, however! I was sleeved 7/10 and went for a 3 mile hike today. Returning to work on Monday. I never expected to be feeling well so quickly. -
Hugs Donna! I hope that walk was a good one. Great job at taking your negative desires and turning them into positive action!! (I hope you didn't walk to the nearest fast food joint! I know how hard it is...) Do you feel a sense of accomplishment from exercise? I hope so. You can do this. You really can. Hugs!!

Thanks gang! My husband - who also had a vsg two weeks before I did is a great motivator in the working out department (lets not talk about the healthy snack department lol.) This week is rough with my work load - multiple lectures to prep and it wont let up until next weekend. I think working out might make fast days easier for me. Friday might work better as well for fasting this week because of my running around schedule - it is easy to drink on the run and I tend to not think much about food - much less so when I am poking around the house.

Welcome! I find fast days to be very difficult lately. I went off the plan for 2 weeks while my brother was visting from chicago, and it's been much more difficult for me to do the fast days since I got out of the habit for 2 weeks. I do love the window and the fact that I look at the clock now and realize it's too late to have a snack or I would not be able to eat tomorrow til really late. So it's cured me of my grazing at night. I hope you'll be posting regularly and letting us know how it's going for you!

What did you eat? I have learned what gas feels like for me because I recognize it from when I was a huge diet coke drinker, lol. It happened after I drank something carbonated, so now I know what it is. Whan I get something stuck it just feels like a lump in my throat, but that goes away fast. I haven't really gotten any stomach pains besides gas so I'm not too much help. I hope you find the answer though!

8 Weeks Yeaterday And Period Started 7 Days Early?
twoboysandagirl replied to jenn298's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep...it is all related to the fat you are burning. When you burn stored fat you release estrogen into your body...loads of it. The fast you burn that fat the more estrogen you have in your body...that cause havic with your cycle...it will even out eventually. Joys of womenhood -
I think I'm eating too fast. Is 2 bites per minute too fast?
-
I was banded on Oct 29th. My surgeon was Dr. Marsden. He is wonderful along with all his staff. God's hand has been with me. I have had no major problems not even with gas. I love the decision I made to have the lap band. I am ready to start my journey. My first fill is Dec 1st and it can't get here fast enough.

I too have really struggled with eating too fast. My "technique" (yes, I have a technique) is to make sure that I am only concentrating on eating. I'm not trying to do something else like working on the computer, watching tv. This helps me be conscious of what I am actually putting in my mouth. Then I take one bite, put the fork/spoon down and chew chew chew, really think about turning the food into mushie and then swallow. Repeat.

Meds To Prevent Gallstones
sunshyneqtie replied to sunshyneqtie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just talked to my GI doc today and he wants me to take it starting 1 week prior to surgery. He says the pills can be crushed and mixed as a slurry or added to whatever I am drinking. I know stones can form pretty fast. I looked at my gallbladder after 36 days on the HCG diet and it was bright white with sludge. I decided to stop there instead of going to 40 days. Ate steak and contracted it pretty good, but took one more fatty meal to return it to normal. I don't think my GB will make it too long without help. I really want to keep it. Hope this medicine works. -
4 weeks out ~ starting to get an appetite.
carolann0117 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 weeks out from my surgery (Dec. 27th). I noticed this weekend that I'm really starting to get an appetite. I was at a conference this weekend and wasn't allowed to bring in food. soooo looking for the most "mushie" food I could find, I found myself eating 3/4 of a tuna sandwich. I guess from reading everyone's posts here, I was surprised that I was able to eat the bread. I have lost only a few ounces this week . I was very spoiled by losing so much so fast.. now I seem to be slowing down. I also started doing some serious walking this last week. I don't know if I'm gaining muscle and it's out-weighing the fat loss, (or what)... ?? Does this mean I'm soon ready for a fill soon? I'm getting nervous that I'll hit a plateau. Other than my worrying about feeling hungry and not losing .... I'm feeling GREAT!!! How are you all doing/did at 4 weeks out??? -
YaY! 10 days will go by fast.

Vomiting is never good with the band, bile or not. It can lead to slips so should be avoided at all costs- and definitely never self induced. As far as being too tight, if you're eating on the run, that could be a big part of your problem. When you eat, you need to actually sit down, take your time, and really be aware of what you're doing. If you're just mindlessly eating on the go, chances are good you're eating too fast and too big of a bite. Slowing down and concentrating on small, slow bites might help you considerably. Best wishes.

9 months and still vomiting daily
MSan914 replied to juliefe@aol.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like it is being caused because you might not be chewing your food well enough -- and eating too fast! SLOW DOWN -- chew your food alot. The long term effects is BULIMIA.....not a good thing. My doctor has told me that she had a patient that was continually throwing up (regurgitating...) her food. And eventually it ruined her esophagus they had to take out the band - and part of her esophagus..........so not a happy ending. Try and get it under control with your eating habits - and still I would mention/talk to your doctor about it. hope this helps. -
Well, I wish I had magic words of wisdom for you. But honestly it sounds like you have pinpointed your own demons. Now it's time to start chipping away at them. Look, I know that feeling of "there is nothing I can do" and that is a slippery slope. Because once you start with the negative talk, along comes the negative self-image, and we start that awful cycle all over again. Start with one thing at a time. CUT out the extra calories. IF you want a treat, give yourself a 48 hour "chill out" time. Face the fact that you want a treat, but give yourself a time out. If you want a cake or brownie on Mon....make yourself wait until Wed. and make sure that the "treat" is absolutely worth it. Don't go for a treat that isn't out of this world amazing because it just isn't worth the extra calories. Once you have started to detox from the little extra treats here and there, then start working on the fitness part. I personally think you NEED BOTH. The weights AND the cardio. If you are lacking in one area, then try pumping that area up a little. If you are only doing weights, then pick a day to skip weights and hit the treadmill. I was lacking a bit on the cardio side so 2 months ago I started to run on my treadmill (whereas before I was just fast walking) and while I do NOT enjoy running, I do enjoy the way I feel after running. So that has been my motivation because I like that exercise "high" that I get. The whole maintenance thing is always the big mystery. Because we have all lost weight and gained it right back. But keep trying to figure out what works for you and most importantly DO NOT GIVE UP. Just take that off the table. Giving up is not an option. Hang in there!

A Lil Confused..Calling All Experienced Sleevers!
lilbearzmom replied to biggie_smalls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 months out and getting to the point where I know how much I can hold. I do measure out pretty much everything, too, and still don't finish most of the time. I usually push it away before I get too full (the food before me loses its appeal) My sign for eating one bite too many is a "stuck" feeling in my throat. This also happens when I eat too fast. Unfortunately everyone is different and there is no hard and fast textbook full feeling. -Kendra -
Complete Unfill--Struggling
RestlessMonkey replied to teachermommy832's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok first the caveats: I am not a pro, just a person! Not a surgeon. I AM a newly graduated nurse BUT I'm not posting this because I am a medical expert, ok? Just a fellow bander who's going to share what I know from reading, google, my surgeon, and my experience. None of this replaces what your doc tells you. Firstly; are you getting AT LEAST 64 ounces of Water each day? I don't mean tea or coffee (even decaf) or crystal light but water? Are you on any medications that would require you to have more water (like allopurinol for high uric acid, for example) One thing I have learned is this: if you aren't overfilled, a tight band happens in a dry person. Dehydrated=tight. This ties in with your problems starting in the AM. Most people aren't well hydrated and if you wake up, drink a little coffee and then try to eat, BAM! too tight. IF you aren't drinking 64 ounces of water each day, DO IT. I drink 4 16oz bottles spaced several hours apart. Some sip all day long. Do 8 oz an hour, whatever works for you, but get it in. Secondly: how large is your band? 3ccs in a 10cc band is pretty aggressive for a first fill and aggressive fills have been linked to esophageal spasms. (I'm not dissing your surgeon; again I'm not a pro. Many people get fills that much, or more, and are happy as clams because they lose and don't have your issues. I'm just saying that it could be what caused them). Once unfilled, as you are, can you eat ok? Thirdly: PB'ing often causes swelling. If you eat/PB and then eat again without giving your stomach and esophagus time to settle down, then the next time you try you'll be even tighter. You might have exacerbated your problem unintentionally by trying to eat again too soon. IF I were you, I'd start over. I'd review the "rules" of small bites, well chewed, eat slowly, over 30 minutes (that last one is my doc's rule...he says no eating beyond 30 or you're grazing). DO THIS NOW even if you can wolf down a cheeseburger. PRACTICE!!! THEN once you feel like you are following the rules, getting the water in, and your doc agrees, get a fill, but a SMALLER one. Get 1.5 ccs. See how you do. Give it 3 weeks or more (because some people need 2 weeks for a fill to even be perceived, odd but true). If that works, get another cc. CREEP UP ON IT! Always practice the small bites, well chewed, eat slow, no drinking during or after meals (per your docs order) and see if you can ease back into it. I have found that if I PB then I am tense and tense=tight, so mastering the eating habits while still open will give you a weapon to fight that. You'll know, once you start getting filled, that you CAN do it; you know how to eat properly, etc. It does become 2nd nature but not as fast as you'd think. I can get distracted by conversation or an interruption (and God forbid I let myself get too hungry before eating!) and then can get into "trouble" but if I chew well (I counted once; it's 40 times for me. way more than I thought it would take! of course it depends on what I'm eating but 40 is a good number for beef and poultry) and watch my bite size (for me it's about 1/2 to 2/3 of my old norm. cut stuff up, then cut it AGAIN. Do it before you sit down to eat so you won't have to think about it) then I can eat anything. I hope some of this helps. Hydrate, follow the rules, ease back into fills, and I hope you'll be on the road again! -
Post-op 1 week today! Questions....
Bob2013 replied to brookiebaby81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Brooke, I am 9 days out from surgery, and I too have questions. I haven't lost but 2 lbs since my surgery. Total weight loss of 17.5 lbs. total in 3 weeks (2 weeks pre-op). Kinda concerned that the weight doesn't seem to be coming off as fast as I thought it would. My BMI was at 30 when I had the surgery and my weight was 177. I am walking everyday. I am hoping when I get back to work next week that the weight will begin to fall off. I am only having very liquid foods and protein drinks until next week. Then on to soft puréed foods. No complications as far as drinking anything either. But I am careful about how much over what time period. I too am afraid to not follow the drs. orders. I guess I am just looking for support and would appreciate all offered. Christina With a BMI of 30 your loss is going to be slow. Generally the bigger you are the faster the initial weight loss. -

Abry replied to brookiebaby81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way I lost a lot the first two weeks and yes I was able to drink freely and without any pain or to much restriction! I also thought that maybe my sleeve might be to big! but NO I feel the restiction now on soft foods after a couple of bites and yes my wieght stalled for a week and now it is coming off fast again I love the way I feel I have been so luck to not have complications!! I also felt the need for solids when on liquids but now I have to stop and make my self eat. My energy level is great and I have droped almost 3 pant sizes!! Keep up the good work!!!! -
One More Time... (believe me, you know the drill)

relax. If hard and fast diets worked in the first place you wouldn't need a band. Why stress your body before surgery - not to mention your mind and spirit? -

Contemplating, Yes, I ran and finished a 10k - I ran 11 minute miles. I'll share a few things. I was a runner pre children, and although a heavy runner ( not heavy like after children, but heavy) I was very strong and consistent and ran and finished 6 NYC Marathons 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 - yup, each one- 26.2 miles. Finished each between 4 hrs 30 minutes and 4 hrs 50 minutes. Fast forward to this weekend... Hadn't run a 10k in 8 years. Only started running again in March. Had surgery early Jan and started at the gym 6 weeks later, using the eliptical and the bicycle for most of the time, then got the guts to get on the tread mill and started. I basically ( as I did in the past) run for a set amount of time, not for a set amount of miles. I cover the display board, as it makes me crazy. I ran a 5k about a month ago, and realized, heck, I need to get off the treadmill and on the streets! Such a different work out between running outside and running on a tread mill. Both good, but oh so different. As for where I am in my weight loss - well, I am about 1/2 way there. I know the running is helping me reach my goal, and I feel great. I do feel shy sometimes, but, you know, I do figure that I am at least trying to do something about my weight, and if someone wants to make fun of me while running, then it is clear who has a problem! Start slow, buy good running shoes and make sure not to run every day at first. Good luck and feel free to write anytime. I am so pumped up that I have signed up for a September 1/2 marathon! I can do this! -

The only thing that doesnt cause PB is chocolate and crisp so...
Paulax replied to angiepUK's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, it sounds too tight. Can't be helpful to you in how much to have removed. I tend to like a tight band, as long as I can stick to healthful foods, like really well chewed moist chicken or fish, or any Protein and really soft and well chewed broccoli or some sort of veggie. If I am tight, and I eat well, the weight drops off. But from one chocolate and crisp lover to another, get them out of your house. I just can not have them near me or I will imbibe. I DO however have Slim Fast meal bars in the house, so when I get a craving, at least it has nutrients in it. And for some reason it doesn't go down as quickly as a real chocolate bar. Good luck and continued success.
