    Weight loss is slow

10lbs in 2 weeks after IV Fluid that probably pumped you with another 5lbs is pretty good. I had surgery may 10th. On may 20th I had a 10lb weight loss. Except my weight was 389lbs. So at your weight you shod be extremely happy. Dont forget the 3 week stall you are going to or are experiencing. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App

    Last advice

Immediately after surgery (well, the next day ) : Walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip. Someone said those words to me, and it was my mantra for days! Walking really does make you feel better! Do it as soon and as often as you can! And sip all day long to stay hydrated! Weeks after surgery: Head hunger sucks. I hope you don't get it, but some do. Work through it by staying hydrated and finding the liquid Protein you enjoy the most. When you get cravings, read, walk, knit, do WHATEVER you can to divert your attention to how bad you want a cheeseburger! Realize that this liquid phase doesn't last forever (well, it did for me, but that's another story), and as soon as you start more solid food, the head hunger subsides. Also remember that you really won't feel the restriction from surgery on the liquid stage, so don't worry You will feel it once you start more solid foods. The dreaded 3 week stall will happen. Maybe not right at 3 weeks, but a stall will happen. Don't panic. It's normal. Follow the plan and it will end. Like Lipstick said, take pics to see your progress! You will see although you may not lose on the scale for a couple weeks, you will see the difference in the photos! Good Luck, good healing and congrats on your new life!!
  3. I did that too in preparation for my surgery. Reading people's questions and experiences will not only give you an idea of what to expect -- like the dreaded 3 week stall -- but it will also inspire and encourage you! I love reading people's weight loss bucket lists and non scale victories.
  4. You're hitting the classic 3 week stall. Don't sweat it, just keep working your plan and the weight loss will start up again. This is a good time to take your measurements and compare them to your measurements from pre-op, or for comparison down the road. My pattern seems to be that I lose for awhile, then I stall and lose inches during the stall. I walked out of my first pair of pants during a stall.
  5. Had a 3 week stall myself now it's coming back off I would avoid fruit progress starts in the mind
  6. We have almost the sames stats!! I was sleeved on 3/28 weighed in on pre-op diet at 248# and had a 3-week stall as we all do.... Mine lasted a week and a half. You HAVE to get your Protein up to 70 - 80 grams minimum, drink the fluids, and my nutritionist had me increase my calories to break mine. So....2 shakes a day, and 3-4 "meals" that usually consist of cottage cheese, greek yogurt, string cheese, refried Beans, corned-beef hash with or without an egg, an omelet.....you get the idea. And take your chewable vitamin! I was only getting between 400 and 600 calories a day, increased it to 600-800, that seemed to help a lot. And when I get on full regular food next week she tells me 1000 calories a day. I don't do fat-free anything really, except the greek yogurt.....eat waaaayyyyy too much cheese (I poop like a rabbit), and am slowly trying to get to real food. Let us know, and I hope it helps.

    The dreaded 3 week stall

I'm four weeks out also and hit the 3 week stall last week. I have read enough info on this forum to know that stalls are temporary. AND IRRITATING! You are doing everything right - hang in there.... I didn't change anything at all and the scale finally started moving down again. I think our body needs to play catch up sometimes. Have faith and keep going forward - this a journey not a race (that's what someone told me!)

    Slow Weight Loss

All the best. You are doing really great. At week 3 I had a 3 week stall and felt sooooo discouraged. Your weight loss is terrific and while you may not be experiencing a stall I can tell you that this is definately the BEST thing that I have done for myself. I'm 6 months out now and have had a couple of stalls BUT the weight is coming off. I have nearly lost 100 lbs!! I feel terrific. You've made a decision that is life changing... hang in there - it is totally worth it!!

    Losing hope

Look up the '3 week stall.' It's so common it has a name. And stay off the scale for a few weeks. When's the last time you lost 21 pounds in less than 3 weeks? I'm guessing the answer is 'never.' You're truly doing great and the scale will start moving again. Realistic expectations are important during your weight loss phase. Due to your starting weight, you most likely aren't going to be one of those people who loses 30+ pounds monthly. The sooner you face this reality, the merrier. I lost at an average rate of about 6 pounds monthly. Yes, I was a horribly slow loser and it took me 17 months to lose 100 pounds. You lost 21 pounds in your first couple of weeks, yet I never had a single month where I lost that much. What matters is that I eventually reached my goal weight and have managed to maintain my losses. Good luck to you.
  10. I had the 3 week stall. And it was exactly 3 weeks lol. I’ve tried to edit my profile to allow my surgery stats but it won’t let me. My highest weight was 270. Surgery weight was 259. Current weight is 209. Im 5’9 and 39 years old. Surgery was 2/28/2018
  11. I was in a 3 week stall at 3 weeks post op and water did the trick for me was water, water, water and water make sure your getting plenty of it and your protein:)Good luck

    one month post op

The first month has the infamous 3 week stall averaged in....and it can ruin your average. Next month will be better. Don't panic. Stick to your program.

    Weight staul

I want to weigh in here. Pun intended. I am new to the bypass but had a sleeve done in 2013 so I know a lot more than a typical newbie. There is a thing I lovingly refer to as “the dreaded 3 week stall”. It happens to almost everyone. It starts at 3 weeks and can last one or a few weeks. It might feel like a big deal but it just happens. It’s because of the shock to your system, eating so few calories, starvation mode, blah blah blah. I’m sure you have all heard that stuff before. IT WILL PASS! Just keep doing what you’re doing and one day you will wake up and like 6lbs will be gone. No worries. It’s all good. Keep up the good work!!

12 Day Post Op Weight Loss

Don't get discouraged. I only lost 5 after surgery and went on a 3 week stall. But I kept walkiing and eating right and now I"m at 20lbs at 5 weeks post op and the loss is going fairly quickly. I lost 10 lbs before surgery, so 30lbs total and I'm thrilled because now I am losing 3-5 a week. Hang in there. I actually quit weighing for a while and just went by my clothes getting baggier and feeling thinner. The scale can mess with your head during a stall.

    my "DIET"

Thanks for the comments guys. It really helps. I also had the surgery so that I could be free from the obsessive dieting that was ruling my life. I like the Protein first philosophy. I guess I was worried because I'm in the midst of the dreaded 3 week stall. I know it will pass... I was just starting to slip into my old thinking patterns re: I have to go on a diet. Thanks Guys Stacey

    Lower Abdominal Pain

Thanks for the feedback! You're gonna laugh, but I took some Mylanta Gas after supper and have felt TONS better!!! And I've read about the dreaded 3 week stall, so I feel much better about the situation. I'm still going to try to get into my doc this week rather than next. Also, the location of the pain wold be around my ovaries, but the pain is not cramp-like. Doesn't feel like a woman issue. And I'm on YAZ so I rarely have periods. I have three more pink pills before I start my white pills this month. So we will see if I'm better tomorrow! Louisville, KY ~ RNY June 24, 2013 ~ Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk

    Grazing

This topic is so relevant to my situation right now. I mentioned previously that I stalled for 3 weeks 5, 6, 7 and broke it by adding in calories and Protein through scheduled Snacks because I wasn't meeting the 600 cals and 60 protein gms minimum. Followed advice of more experienced folks on forum and I dropped 15.5 pounds in about 1-1/2 weeks. Then had post op meeting with PA and she said dont' snack. Only 3 meals a day. Well, tried that. Finally figured out how to meet protein minimum with 3 meals and still went into another almost 3 week stall, then just lost 9 pounds in 10 days when I went against orders and added in protein snack or two if necessary. Another postop yesterday. Talked to PA about my worry about not getting enough nutrition with 450-550 cals a day. I'm eating mostly lean protein to get those 60 grams of protein in through 3 meals and no snacks. So she got back to me today with doctor's message: no protein snacking, 3 meals a day, get in Proteins, don't go over carb limit (60 carbs -- I rarely get to 30) or fat limit (30- stay under that too). Dr. said don't worry about calories; just get in protein and Water (only water counts as liquid, btw; Protein shakes, tea, etc. don't count). I think he must be more conservative than many of the doctors you all see, but he's very experienced and successful. I'm going to follow his instructions and not add a protein snack or two to get 600 calories. We'll see where it gets me this month. Won't worry about calories. If I stall, I'll see if it will break following his instructions. It's been a bit frustrating not losing more month 3 considering my high weight at the outset, but maybe this is just going to be my way of losing, i.e., lose, stall, lose, stall. I seem to remember Oregon Daisy saying something about her weight loss being full of stalls.
  18. I am glad you came to talk about your feelings. I hope you stay around! All bodies are different. For example I lost a lot of weight right after surgery and now I am going on a 3 week stall. I was crying last night over it. Even my husband was like you will start to lose weight again, how can you not? You eat 4 oz of food! I promise hon it is going to happen. Your body has been through so much. Have faith and love yourself.

Stalling at 3 weeks Am i alone?

@@nikireed4_22 You just has major surgery. I remember it took me a good 5 weeks to start feeling like myself. This will all be a distant memory soon. As far as the stall, it's the classic 3 week stall 99% of people go through. There are many, many threads on this forum about it if you want to read up why it happens. @@Katie K Kitt It is frustrating isn't it?? But it won't last. You will lose weight, I promise. Just keep in mind that those of you who don't have a ton of weight to lose will find that the weight loss will be slower. Just the way it is. Work on meeting your fluid and protein goals these first several weeks. Staying hydrated and getting enough protien for healing is what's most important right now, not the number on the scale.
  21. Look up the the "3 week stall". Many stall out for up to 4 weeks early on. I did. Then things get better. Who knows why.... the body does what it wants. unflavored protein powders are not unflavored. That being said, you can add them to other things that you like, pea soup? crystal light? refried beans? cottage cheese? This will help you get by until you can eat more regular foods. Good luck and you are doing great!

    what are you eating?

You are likely in the dreaded 3 week stall. Very common. Don't panic. Just keep sticking to the program and the pounds will add up eventually.
  23. I am 5.5 weeks out and have lost 16 lbs since surgery. I too started at a low BMI. But I also lost 10 lbs the two weeks prior on the low carb diet. Of course I would love to be lower but I am over half way to my goal and I know it's going to be slower the closer I get. I am doing cardio and yoga 6 days a week as the doctor hasn't cleared me for weights yet. If you ever want to email or chat since we're so close on dates let me know. I also know that around 3 weeks I only lost 1 lbs that week so I was pretty bummed but I came on here and read about the 3 week stall and it made me feel sooooo much better. Happy Holiday you got this!! LA
