    Dreaded Stall, 3 wks out...

I just got over the 3 week stall. Mine lasted about a week. Doctors and everyone here assured me it would correct itself, so I didn't change my eating habits any.

    Weight loss

Your doing fine. You're on the right track. I started out the same way, then hit the 3 week stall and was stuck until week 4. Don't focus too much on numbers because it will drive you crazy. You are also losing inches too. Keep up the good work.
  3. I said the same thing this morning. I'm 11 days P-O. Returned to the gym for the first time last night since surgery and again this morning. I lost 10lbs last week and thought...hmm must have hit the 3 week stall early!!! Man. The calories I burned last night were more than I consumed. So I basically did not eat yesterday. I've always wondered about starvation after the surgery. How is that supposed to help aid is in weightless. Keep up the good work!!! I never thought I could survive this long on liquids and almost caved (a few times). I'm chugging along and determined to get to a size I've never seen!!!
  4. You're doing fine. You likely hit your 3 week stall a little early. I did too and it lasted about 2.5 weeks. Focus on getting in more Protein every day and increasing your Water. It is frustrating and if you did a poll on this site I am willing to bet 97% of everyone hit the same stall and felt exactly the same way. You are normal, just keep following your plan and the scale will move again.
  5. Yes.. I was sleeved 4/6/15 and after a couple of weeks post op I was at a stand still for a about 2-3 wks. I stopped weighing my self to avoid disappointment and when I hopped back on the scale i found I lost 6 lbs. There's a post on the boards here about the "dreaded 3 week stall". There is a complex physiological reason behind it having to do with glycogen and water retention. I'm on my iPhone app right now so if someone would be kind enough to post a link (if you can) to the article it would be much appreciated! Good luck and keep following your plan. You'll get past this stall.

    Less activity

I'm 62 and just 3 weeks post op. I started my pre op diet at 502#s and Im aleady down to 432# - 70#s in just 5 weeks. I'm worried about the dreaded 3 week stall but excited to see what its like by 6 months. No real pain or discomfort ever. Came home the day after surgery but really felt like I could have come home the same day. Never used pain meds. Planned it around a holiday and went back to work (desk job) on day 4. Off insulin and blood pressure meds since the surgery. Good luck everybody!

    Stuck!

Stalls happen! Just stay on point it is just your body adjusting. You are in the "3 week stall"
  8. I had surgery on March 8, and at about 3 weeks I stopped losing and actually "gained" 5 pounds! I read a lot of information about the 3-week stall, which appears to be pretty common, and I just kept doing what I was doing-60 grams or Protein daily with a combination of drinks and food (a LOT of tuna salad and cottage cheese) and the stall lasted about 10 horrible days. I have finally dropped that weight plus another 2 pounds. I felt the same way; like that was all the weight I was ever going to lose! This forum is awesome for encouragement. I am so glad I came here to get great advice and to find out that all of this is perfctly normal. Keep eating and drinking protein, limit carbs (I try to stay under 25 grams but occasionally end up at around 40-50 for the day) and get plenty of Water. The extra weight (for me I think I might have gotten a little dehydrated when I was at my lowest weight) and the stall WILL end.
  9. Welcome, Dianne and Dan! It's been a while since I last posted -- we moved to Durham about 3 weeks ago and we are STILL knee deep in unpacked boxes. Most of the hard work is done, but there is still a lot left to do. I'm hoping to get on to "real life" mode in another 2 weeks at the most. I am 10 days shy of being 3 months out from my surgery. I had a totally uneventful surgical and post surgical experience and continue to do well physically. Getting enough Protein and fluids in has never been a problem. I did really well with weight loss the first month, hit a 3 week stall, and have done reasonably well in the last month. I guess all of the stair climbing and constant walking around involved in packing and unpacking helped! I have noticed that since I have been on "real" food, I have had a tendency to revert back to some of my prior bad behaviors. Being in a state of household upheaval has not helped the process! Now that things are beginning to get back to normal, I am going to redouble my efforts to get back on track and to start exercising on a regular basis. I hope everyone is doing well and that we can make this string a more lively place and support each other in our journey! -- Carol
  10. I am so frustrated! I'm four & half weeks out and have felt pretty miserable for as many weeks. I developed reflux and had to tame that. I am still pretty nauseous all the time. I have had bronchitis since having the surgery. Coughing is the most miserable thing right after surgery—and I've been doing it for 4 weeks! I finally saw my PCP and got a round of antibiotics (liquid-yuck!) but not sure they actually worked as the cough and yuckiness that comes up with it are still there. The liquid and puréed phases were truly difficult especially since the smell of whey protein powders made me sick. Nevertheless, I've still been able to get in most of my proteins on most days. Now, I've started some soft solids, but I think I really miss just normal food. And coffee. Oh, how I miss coffee! My frustration is compounded by the fact that I haven't lost any weight in two weeks. I am aware of the dreaded "3 week stall," but part of me feels like I have stopped losing weight and feeling like this whole thing was a big mistake. Sorry this was such a negative rant, but I'm just feeling a little blue about it all (and honestly, that's not like me at all). I guess I just need a little encouragement from folks who've been there and gone on to brighter days.

    Stopped losing

Do a search here for 3 week stall - you'll find a ton of posts. It's perfectly normal. Here's my suggestion - STOP WEIGHING. The scale is bad for your soul. It's evil. Let's look at the facts - you are still recovering from major surgery, your body is still recovering. Your body is also trying to figure out what you just did to it - you just removed 75% of a major organ! You've also limited your caloric intake to virtually nothing and you've probably increased your physical activity. Your body is in "WTF?????" mode. You didn't gain your weight overnight - let's not put the added stress on the situation by expecting your body to lose it overnight. Take a deep breath - you're going to be fine. I went thru the same thing - to save my sanity, here's what I did. My husband hid the scale from me and brought it out once per week. I took my measurements 1-2 times per month - I could actually see myself losing inches, even tho the scale wasn't moving I took a picture of myself once per week - I was literally melting away even tho the evil scale fairy was telling me I wasn't losing pounds. I love looking back at my journey thru pictures - you can actually see my attitude change as the weight comes off. It's amazing - I have more life in my eyes as the time goes by. I had to learn to not give the scale power over my thoughts - it's just a number on a piece of electronic equipments, why do we allow it the power over us? it can ruin our mood, our day, our confidence. Please do not give it that much power. I'm 18 months out and I weigh a couple of times a month now - it's just not that important to me any more. What's important to me is how I reel - emotionally and physically. The scale cannot tell me that.

    Discouraged, not losing!

7lbs in three weeks seems pretty darn good to me! As others have said, the 3 week mark often brings a slow down (search 3 week stall) and that will end. BUT it's also unrealistic to expect to continue to lose at the rate you did your first two weeks--10lbs a week is not sustainable--10lbs a month is more common. You often lose the most weight the first two weeks of any diet.

    Discouraged, not losing!

Sounds like the dreaded 3-week stall which you can find on the boards with a search. Sounds like you're doing great. Just stick to your plan & the weight will come off.

    March Sleevers

Sounds like the 3 week stall! I just came out of mine 2 weeks ago.. It will start moving again.. and 51 pounds is amazing!! Just keep going. I got frustrated and started thinking that I was failing.. but then once I increased my calories, per my NUT, it totally started going again. I hope you do too.. I'm just about 7 weeks out and I feel amazing.
  15. Hi all. I was sleeved on 4/8. I've always been a drinker getting at least 90 ounces of fluids a day, primarily Water. Fortunately I was able to drink just as much after surgery. I am still getting about 90 ounces a day of water and crystal light. Again, 80% is water. However I am not peeing as much. Probably only 4 times a day as opposed to pre-surgery peeing of 10-12 times a day. I've asked my NUT and she said it's fine as long as my urine is clear and my mouth isn't dry. Why does this happen? Where does all the Fluid go? That brings me to my next question. I'm not losing weight and I wonder if I'm retaining all this fluid somewhere? I'm not swollen in my hands or feet. I lost 22 pounds since surgery but nothing in almost 2 weeks. It's really discouraging since I'm following the diet and also walking about 5 miles per day. I don't understand it. I have a fear that this is it. I've lost 20 pounds and I'm not going to lose any more. I've read posts that there is a "3 week stall" but I've passed that point. I see the doc on Tuesday for my one month post op and will talk to him as well but I wanted some opinions from people who have gone through it.
  16. Aubrey there is such a thing as the "dreaded 3 week stall" where you stoop losing weight for a bit. Supposedly it's completely normal. You just have to wait it out a couple of weeks and if you stick to the plan the pounds will begin dropping off again. I'm at a stall too.. For the past 3 weeks my scale read exactly the same. Glad to know this is a normal process
  17. I had the "dreaded 3 week stall" at 2 1/2 weeks out and it last 3 weeks! You're lucky! I was going crazy! Actually, the carbs you ate probably gave you a jump start! Keep up the good work!!!

    Stalls - no complaints

I had a 3 week stall a while back. I decided to go back to basics. I started eating just protein again and it seemed to work. Good luck to you!!!
  19. I'm day 25 post op and have had a stall for the last week and a half. No matter what I did the scale was stuck! Well, I went out for Mexican food with my family last night for a celebration for my daughter's softball teams big win. I just let myself relax and enjoy some " real food" and had just a few chips and 3/4 of a small cheese enchilada made with a soft corn tortilla. I was full as this was the most food I have eaten since surgery. Well just for fun I got up and weighed today and the scale finally moved! I'm down 1.5 pounds from yesterday!! So happy it's finally going the right direction
  20. Hi Alexis! I won't be 4 weeks postop until next Wednesday but, like Fuzzy, I am at the 3-week stall. This site is awesome for support and I am finding lots of us who had surgery right around the same time. Welcome aboard!

    Help. I gained a pound

Thanks for all the support you've given me. I realize this is just part of my 3 week stall. It helps me psychologically to realize this is normal and accept it. No matter what, life is still better than pre surgery.

    Newbie only 4 weeks post-op

Hi, I'm Fuzzy and also 4 weeks out. Down 31 and at the 3 week stall. I don't know if there is a private chat but would like to. I'm in Florida. You? I feel well; the only time I'm in pain is when I play bridge; that's due to the awful chairs. There is good news. I saw my regular doc and he cut my diabetic med down from 500mg 2x p/day to 250 once a day. I still have to push myself to get out and walk. I still haven't tried going back to the gym or yoga. How are you doing? If you reply I will see it show up in my email. Fuzzy
  23. So I'm 2 months out as of today, 3 weeks after surgery I have not lost pounds or inches. I've been working out everyday since 3 weeks after surgery and I'm just not understanding why I'm not losing anything. I've read about the 3 week stall, but this is ridiculous. I'm doing everything to lose but it's just not going anywhere and it's really starting to get to me. I'm thinking about doing Clear liquids for a week to try to jump start it back up (hopefully).

    Help. I gained a pound

I gained, too, these past couple of days. I am meeting Protein and Water requirements, but I am also battling constipation. I actually "gained" 4 pounds since 2 days ago, and that is after a week-long plateau just 2 weeks postop. My surgery was on April 8, and I am also right around 30 pounds total. It's very frustrating, but I keep hearing that I am doing everything right and eventually my body will catch up to my miniature meals, lol. I have been reading about the "3-week stall," which, apparently, is an actual thing! I am sorry you are stuck in the same place I am, but it does help me to see that this is very normal. I wish you the best! @@fuzzyfeline
  25. That was a great article! I did have the 3 week stall and I feel like I am in another stall right now too 6 1/2 out. That news keeps me motivated! Thanks!
