  1. I was originally leaning for rny but my doctor refused to perform it at my weight and gave me an option of mini bypass or sleeve (both under anesthesia for much less time) i choose the sleeve as there are more revision options if necessary Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk

    Revision help!

How are you doing with the sleeve. I have my revision to sleeve on 6/21 any suggestions or recommendations Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  3. I am getting mine done tomorrow morning. Had the band done in 07 and was very successful. I screwed up and got lazy and learned every eating trick to beat the band. I am getting the revision to sleeve in the morning. I am praying it's a 1 and done. I will let you know ! Sent from my SM-G925I using the BariatricPal App
  4. Sleeve is a great 1st procedure. You still have other secondary surgical options including doing a RNY after if you don't get the results you are going for. Bypass does not leave any other doors open. There is no revision or 2nd procedure options there. My sister did bypass 10 years ago and managed to stretch out her pouch (there is a ring or stoma that creates the pouch connection to the new intestine location.) Once you stretch the stoma ring...it won't unstretch. With sleeve, you have a pressurized staple line the length of your stomach. It won't stretch out. The fundus (stretchy part of your stomach) is all or mostly removed during your surgery, so your restriction with a sleeve is permanent. I went with sleeve because I didn't like the idea of rerouting my intestines and have seen that with deliberate bad eating, you can stretch the stoma with bypass. Just a couple more points to think about as you make your decision. Good luck!! Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  5. Hi I'm having the band revision surgery on June 22nd to sleeve. My Doctor had the Fluid removed immediately so that May stomach could start to heel before the surgery. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I have thyroid disease, I'm pre diabetes, my insulin levels are high, and have sleep apnea. I have no idea what was submitted to the insurance in the form of what they told them. I don't think I will have a problem with getting the lap band removed, but the revision is what I'm not sure about. My doctors office submitted my documents to bcbs last week on Wednesday the 13th, so I'm waiting to see if they will approve the band removal and sleeve revision. My surgeon wanted to do it in two procedures, but didn't want to chance the band being removed and then them not paying for the rest, so it was submitted all together in one procedure. I'm a surgical assistant and have assisted in many of these cases, so I know the ins and outs of the case. The only difference in one procedure and two is when you so both steps in one procedure your raising the risk of a leak, BUT the raised risk is still very low, so I'm not worried about that risk. When surgeons do it in one procedure, they just use a larger staple line, and reinforce it with suture. I don't want to go through two procedures, two recoveries, be put under anesthesia twice, have to take off work twice..Just waiting on insurance, its making me a nervous wreck Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

Are you waiting for your surgery approval? My husband and I have BCBS Fed and it was submitted to insurance on April 7 and we received the approval letter on April 13. We were surprised it came so fast. I have heard some BCBS patients hearing within 48 hours and others 3 weeks. We were super nervous too! Like you, I have a band and am going to my last NUT appt this Thursday. I hope I am approved as well for the sleeve. My husband and I were hoping to be going through this together. For 10 years we have been on different eating schedules due to my band and all the difficulties it presents. There is more to prove to the insurance for a revision. Did your surgeon tell you that the band and port would be removed in one surgery and then the sleeve would come later on? My surgeon told me this but when he saw how upset I became he said he would see how it looks when he goes in and if it looks safe to do the sleeve, he will. So I won't even know until I wake up if I am sleeved or not.

    Removed it!

I was due to remove my band and revise to sleeve. Last minute I was so afraid of the non reversible sleeve that I backed out. Today is my 4th day post op and I am feeling kind of guilty as if I should of done the sleeve. I need to lose 50lbs and I am not sure if I will be able to lose weight on my own. At the same time I had so many issues with the band that I was afraid to get into another WLS and create more. My doc said you will regret it later. Also I already had severe gerd with the band. One of the side effects of sleeve is gerd I didn't want to be at risk for esophagus cancer. Any suggestions would be appreciated? What does everyone think? Would I regret it later?
  11. Does anyone have bcbs and had to go through the approval process. I have a band and want to revise it to a sleeve. I've had nothing but problems with the band and can't get more then 3.5cc before I start vomiting. I am 185, with a BMI of 35. I have thyroid disease, borderline pre diabetes.. How long does it take for an answer, I hope they don't say no, I can't imagine why they would. Nervous! It's been a week since claims were submitted. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

    Looking for any April surgeries

I'm over in England so we definitely don't live near! In Britain our sign language is totally different to ASL although I am planning to do an ASL course soon. Definitely better to only tell people who really care x Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App I'm 2nd April x Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App Hi suepro. Whereabouts in England are you? I'm in Perth Australia...also a long way away but lived in the UK for many years as my father is English. I think the UK was right into the gastric band, and like Australia has recently moved more towards bypass due to the higher success of bypass and dismal failure of the band as a surgical method. I think the band was really a big expensive con! Are you having the RNY or the newer Omega loop/ mini bypass? Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App Hi there, I'm near London. Yes, bands are still fairly popular over here but the sleeve is gaining popularity as well. RNY is the surgery of choice for patients with higher BMI and for people like myself who are having revision from band. Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App
  13. Hi! I was wondering if Un-filling the band pre-surgery is necessary. I'm submitting all my papers to the insurance this week and I was wondering if I should request an unfill in order to prepare for the surgery. Right now my band has 5.5 cc of saline. How was your experience with your revision? Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. I love to hear that Hagengirl3!Im same age and having revision from band to bypass in 2 days time. I'm so scared that I'm making a mistake and that I'll regret it. Have you regretted your decision for bypass at all?? Can you tolerate alcohol at all? I just hope to have a glass of wine occasionally. Im mostly afraid of never being able to eat out with friends at restaurants again. Its a big part of socialising here in Australia. Have u found foods that you just cannot eat at all? Would you do it again if you could go back in time? Julie Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

    1 month post op

As of yesterday I am 1 month post op revision from the sleeve to the bypass...... I don't think my body is healing as well as it should be at this point due to me being type 2 diabetic..... I'm having a lot of abdominal pains I'm not sure what's the cause of it but I'm not able to keep food down and I'm pretty much stuck in stage 3 of my diet but for the most part I'm back in stage 1. I've vomited so much lately that I'm afraid to eat anything at first I thought I was eating to fast but that wasn't it, I simply can't eat any food and it's getting harder to get my fluids in now.... I'm really fatigued like all the time and I don't know what to do..... Help ???????????? Sent from my LG-D850 using the BariatricPal App

    Alcohol

So first let me say that I have no moral objections to a drink and have the occasional beer or wine myself. The point I'd like to make though is that there were numerous articles about 5-10 years ago touting the health benefits of moderate drinking, mostly around reduced cardiovascular risk. There have been more studies and more analysis of the data since then, and the revised guidance is that for optimal overall health anyway, alcohol shouldn't be part of your program. You might drink because you like the taste of course, but it doesn't make sense to drink with the goal of improving your health.

  18. These responses give me some hope too, lol. I have a friend in Texas whom I met in Mexico getting banded 10 years ago. She had the revision to sleeve and loves it. She says that bread is really hard for her to eat, which is just like a band. She says the bread swells up and it is too uncomfortable to eat. I have been really asking her a lot of questions since my husband is getting sleeved on May 2 and hopefully I will follow if I am approved. Initially she had lost a lot of weight post sleeve but regained 40 pounds because of the sweet tea she loves so much. She says she just can't give it up.

    Pre surgery weight gain

My husband is being sleeved May 2. I have had a band for 10 years and am going through the process as well hoping to get approval for a revision. My surgeon unfilled me 2 months ago and I've been eating anything and everything ever since. I haven't been able to eat without throwing up for all these years and some foods I just couldn't even attempt. So I am like a kid in a candy store. I know I am going to regret it. If I am denied, I guess I'll have to have the band refilled and start puking again.
  20. Hey everyone! I'm having a revision from a band to a bypass in either may or June. I have to finish up my sleep study and upper GI. Hopefully I come up negative on the sleep study or I will have to wear a cpap for 30 days Good luck to everyone on this journey Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Goodbye to beer and pizza?

My mom had a lap band and revised it to a sleeve, it's been three years now. She enjoys the occasional glass of wine of beer (really slowly though) or some pizza but hasn't gain a pound from what I can tell. I guess it's fine as long as you do it in a moderate manner. I don't think WLS means you have to stay away from everything... Be your own judge I guess.

    Afraid of not losing!

I had the sleeve done August, 2013, & stabilized at a loss of 85 pounds. I had a revision of the sleeve & conversion to a SA-DS on December 29, 2015. I'm currently down another 35 pounds. Most importantly, all of my co-morbidities have finally resolved. They hadn't resolved after the first sleeve even with the 85-pound loss so that was the main motivation for me to have the SA-DS.

    Anyone from NJ

Is this your first WLS or did you revise and if so to what? This site is great i have been on here since my lapband in 2006 and 10 years later im on again. Dr. Ewing is great Same Doctor since 2006.
  24. Mine was - 9 years ago when my dad died in 2007 of a massive heart attack at the age of 53 because he had diabetes/severly overweight (close to 400lbs) and he was a heavy smoker... I decided that I didn't want to die at 53 as I was already close to being the same weight as him and I was 23 years younger. I wanted to live to be able to play with my nephew and teach him everything my dad taught me and wouldn't be able to now... So, I decied on the lap band because the sleeve wasn't available to me back then. I had decent success, I lost weight - which was my goal - wasn't a complete success as I didn't lose 50% of my weight but I still lost some. Now, I want to do the revision to the sleeve and continue my weight loss and continue to become healthier, so that I can continue tplay with ALL my nieces and nephews now - three of which my dad never got the chance to meet and I don't want them to miss out on knowing him through me as my sisters had a different type of childhood with him then I did. I was the first and his subsititue boy - so I learned everything - they were the girls
  25. When I have the DS done in a month and a half, I am REALLY afraid of not losing because I had the sleeve prior to this surgery and I won't be getting a sleeve revision. Am I really going to lose weight? Is getting just the DS worth it? The doctors say I will, but I would like to hear it from some veterans of this 2 part procedure who actually had 2 different parts! Thanks in advance... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
