  1. Can you stall on a pre-op diet? I’ve been on it for 2 weeks and have another 2 weeks to go.

    Insurance Mandatory Pre-Op Diet

I did the kaiser mandatory 3 month pre-op diet. From my first class on Jun 16 to my surgery date of Oct 7, I lost from 225 to 196. No liquid diet. Just walking 30 minutes 5 days a week and eating 1200-1400 calories a day.

    Where is my port?

Mine is directly above my largest incision. To the left, about 4 fingers width below my ribs. So basically the left middle of my abdomen. I can feel mine if I push on the area slightly. I'm thinking the nice thing about this site is that it won't interfere with clothing and it won't been seen or felt. I'll know more as I lose weight. Too early to tell at this point, I'm barely 2 weeks out!
  4. Hi all I am currently into my first week on puree. My meal sizes are around or just under the 100g mark and they take a good 30 min to eat. But there is a minor problem..... Does anyone else suffer from a build up of excess mucus? I'm not drinking prior to or during lunch and I know I'm not overeating. It's not a very nice feeling half way through a meal and it's a good job I live on my own as it can happen 3 or 4 times in a meal... lol Any thoughts or advice welcome. Many thanks.

    Two Months Post-Op Tomorrow

I can't believe I haven't updated my journal since one week post-op. I enjoy reading all the other journals, but have been lax in updating mine. Went back and got my list of things I wanted to do, so am updating it here: I hope to be able to do all these things when I lose some weight: 1) Ride my horse without worrying that I am breaking his back!! Too hot, haven't even tried. He's having fun in the pasture. 2) Have the energy to clean my house and shovel out all the stuff I gathered thru the years. I have more energy, and have started cleaning out some (namely clothes that are getting too big) but sad to say not real enthused about this yet!! 3) Stick my arm in that blood pressure thing at Walmart and not have it get stuck there!! And use a normal blood pressure cuff! Haven't tried it yet! 4) Walk somewhere without huffing and puffing and stopping to rest 20 times. Can walk 45 minutes on the treadmill and am finding daily walking a lot easier! 5) Get off all these pills I am taking - or at least most of them!! My blood pressure is pretty much normal now (with the pills), but it will probably be a while longer before I decrease them. My blood sugar has decreased but still a ways to go. Went off Metformin when I got the surgery. Going to the doctor tomorrow and will get blood tests for sugar, cholesterol, etc. 6) Quit getting my butt stuck in chairs/theatre seats, etc with arms. This has decreased dramatically, with just a 24 lb weight loss. 7) Have enough energy to play with grandkids, do some gardening, ride my bike. Stayed off the bike for the 6 weeks after surgery, still not gotten back on it yet. Maybe today if it's cool enough! 8) Not be the biggest person in the room. (Already accomplished this when I went to the bariatric clinic-how sad. Finally sat in a chair too big for me!! But I don't consider this a NSV) What a sick mentality I have that I rejoice that someone in the room is bigger than me - this isn't usually the case tho. 9) Do something besides read, crochet and watch soaps on tv all day long because I don't feel like doing much else. Still need to work on this. 10) I'm sure there are many more but I have gone brain-dead for now.

    A New way of Life...

Hooray! I'm so glad you've reached your sweet spot. I have my second fill on Wednesday, and my third on 3/26. I hope to be in your ranks around then! For now, I'm practicing and pretending I already have restriction--tiny bites, chewing to oblivion, and tiny portions. The "no hunger" part of your post made me smile. For you--and also with hope for myself.

    First fill tomorrow

Back from my fill appointment. Took about 5 minutes because the Dr had a hard time finding my port. No pain involved though. I was asked if I wanted a topical anesthesia, but I declined. I'm not sure why it would be needed. Dr Bunch was pushing on my stomach and had me change positions, but no discomfort or pain. He told me I probably wouldn't feel any restriction yet because it is only 2cc. I go back in 2 weeks for another 2cc.
  8. Six weeks post surgery I am scheduled for my first fill tomorrow. I'm excited, but not sure what to expect after. I have no fill at this time and can eat anything I have tried. Including a Soft Pita, haven't tried bread because I haven't wanted it. I have been losing slowly, about 16 lbs since surgery April 5. It is tough trying to get in enough Protein eating what I am eating now. I know that I will get 2cc and go back every 2 weeks until I am in the green zone. What I don't know is what to expect. As far as I know I have no restriction right now but I know I am not as hungry as I used to be, that could just be the Water. How did you feel after your first fill?
  9. I am a food addict. Or should I say I have an addictive personality. If I enjoy something I have an intense drive to over do it. I don't know why this is, but I am working really hard to fix it. I. AM. NOT. PERFECT. But, I will admit I have problems in my head and I need to fix them. I am posting the 12 Steps of Addiction Recovery. Know them, learn them, live them. The 12 Steps Step 1 - We admitted we were powerless over our addiction - that our lives had become unmanageable Step 2 - Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity Step 3 - Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood God Step 4 - Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves Step 5 - Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs Step 6 - Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character Step 7 - Humbly asked God to remove our shortcomings Step 8 - Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all Step 9 - Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others Step 10 - Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it Step 11 - Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge of God's will for us and the power to carry that out Step 12 - Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs Where I found this information: http://www.12step.org/

    PROGRESS PIC

Congratulations, you look great! I am getting sleeved on May 30th! I'm super excited, but also very nervous. What was your pre-op diet like? I was having difficulty staying on track at first, now that it's 3 weeks away, I am trying to be more disciplined.
  11. after a fill you are what my dr calls "tight" this tightness usually loosens up within a week to a week 1/2. At first you do feel good restriction and you think Oh wow, this is it. Unfortunately if it's your first fill then you probably are just tight and not quite at your sweet spot, but it's not to say that you aren't. Rice is one of those foods that can't be chewed really well and goes down much like you see it on your plate, whole. I use my band as a funnel and imagine rice for a second trying to go down a funnel....not really gonna go too well. The texture allows it to "compact" as I call it. It doesn't flex like a piece of chewed up chicken will. Feeling restricted to me feels like alot of pressure in the lower part of my chest and oddly, I get this itchy feeling in my nose.....sounds strange I know, but that's how I know. At the time of my surgery I was at 2cc's and first fill took me to 4cc's, I now am at 5cc's as of May 5th. I have a large band, one that can go up to 14cc's, so 5 is really nothing, but I do notice a change in the amount of food I can consume depending on the texture of course. I'm still able to tolerate most breads and alot of other foods people claim to be a problem, so I don't think I'm at my sweet spot either. I'd try measuring 4oz of any given thing you like and use a trial and error method, learn to listen to your band and you'll just know with instinct as time goes on. good luck with everything, I wish you the best.
  12. I had my first fill last week. I had 3 ccs during surgery and she added 2 more ccs in an 11 cc band. Before my fill I could eat anything and I was hungry after a couple of hours. I did experience getting stuck with rice and some dry meat before. Since Thursday I have lost 4 lbs in 4 days. Today I could eat normal foods but all I had was protein shakes a small salad at lunch and I am not hungry. It could be that I have sinus problems and I don't feel that great. I never thought I would get restriction after my first fill. I always heard it takes 3-4 fills to get to your sweet spot. I ate a little bit of rice and chicken and I felt like I was about to get stuck. So I'm not sure if I have restriction or was is just the rice that I couldn't tolerate.

    Alcohol

I was cleared after 3 months. I had a couple of drinks around 4 months and felt very sick. Didn't drink again until about 7+ months. Now I can have a glass or two of wine without a problem. Although I generally only do that once every week or two. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. My surgery was 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I did great and recovered nicely. This morning I could hardly move. My shoulders and upper back ache and it hurts when I breath in deeply. I do not have a cough and other than that I feel fine, able to eat, etc. I wonder if it could be from the gas everyone is always speaking of here, I really never experienced any of those pains after surgery and wonder if I am having them now? I do have a Dr appointment in the morning (not lapband dr., regular primary care Dr.), I see the lapband Dr on Tuesday.
  15. @@brookriver2014 I was taking capsules on my last day in the hospital, however, they were painkillers. Supplement wise, been taking vit B12 spray, and BN Multi Chewable soon after coming home from the Sleeve op. I started my vit D3 small capsules in week 3, larger Calcium/Magnesium at the same time. I can obviously only speak for myself. I haven't had any issues. Also, I was advised re Omega 3s, Krill oil, vit E, and anything that thins out the blood, to hold off until after 30 days. I was however on nightly self injections of an anti-coagulant ..... for at least 5-7 days post op .... I would ask my Surgeon, Dietician, and also test it slowly what agrees/doesn't agree with me. I also have to take my Thyroid med, it is a tablet, but it is very small. I am on so many supplements for my thyroid disease, as well as the Sleeve supplements. Good luck with your recovery

    when can I drive again

Ok cherrybell...I replied to this post already but thought you should know this. I am now 18 days post-op and had to do quite a bit of driving around town then 3 hrs to Georgetown and 3 hrs back. I probably spent a total of 8 hrs in the car today and I have to tell you I am quite a bit sore. Again, I am 18 days post-op. Granted I forgot my binder at home, but I thought about you when we got home 30 mins ago (at 3am) and I just wanted to let you know so it could give you a better idea of what it could be like for you...without pain meds...and 6 days post-op. I would not do it!!! Sorry...hope you can make some other kind of arrangements.

    when can I drive again

I agree with the others. I'm one week out today, off narcotic pain meds as of two days ago and JUST drove my kids to school this morning. I'm doing ok right now, but the idea of a 6 hour drive this soon out gives me the shivers. I strongly suggest looking at your other options. ~~Dee

    when can I drive again

It all about the pain meds and food. I had an epidural that was taken out the day I left the hospital (day 3) and I could not have driven any distance like that for at least 2 weeks after. Partially because of the medication, partially because I couldn't eat much of anything and I was exhausted all the time. Good luck, Lara
  20. Oh Ok...it's so good to know someone else has experienced it...if it continues to happen I will definitely give my doctor a call..you best believe I won't be reaching up anymore this week..except to put on or take off my shirt!!! Lol...thank you for your response!!!!
  21. Have my first appointment with the surgeon next week and am wondering what questions I need to be asking. I've read a ton of stuff and am generally informed, but what do I need to know about/from my specific surgeon? I know his bio (years in the biz, # of surgeries per year, board certs, etc.). What did you ask that was really useful or what do you wish you had asked? (New here and am so thankful I found this community!) Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App
  22. I am on the last day of my pre-op diet. Surgery is tomorrow, whoo hoo. Problem is my stomach is so sore, raw feeling. I am drinking Chike shakes from the dr., & broth. I can hardly stomach them and only get 2-3 out of the 4 I am allowed per day. Although I dont feel hungry (stomach growling) do you think it is what it is? The only thing that has helped is when I had a little baked chicken. I dont like to do that though because it isn't on my list and surgery is tomorrow. It hurts constant. Has anyone else has this or know why?

    9 day shake diet

I am on day 3, my program supplies New Direction meal replacement which I found very good, I mix with h2o, they have Choco straw vanilla pudding and soups, I haven't felt hungry at all! My suggestion is keep drinking thru the day in between! I haven't had any stomach rumbling, I realize how much head hunger used to have ! I too have 3wks!

    Stalls Suck

Ah the dreaded 3 week stall. Dont worry - almost everyone here has gone through this. Keep doing everything you are supposed to. The stall will break pretty soon and your scale will move

    Waking up and pain

One week post op I still had pain. I slept in my recliner, it helped a bunch! I also used heating pads for my back to help move the left over gas that was trapped from surgery. My pain isolated itself in my back and left shoulder. Walking and heating pads were the only things that really helped. I do want to mention that the left shoulder discomfort from the left over gas lasted several weeks. After the month mark I could still feel it when I walked briskly or trotted. It did FINALLY go away after 6-8 weeks. But try the heating pads!
